this summer I moved to brooklyn heights and was so excited to have the blue pig with delicious and unique homemade ice cream right around the corner. After almost daily yummy ice cream cones this summer (i admit i was obsessed) you can imagine the horror on my face when I went in there tonight and saw Dryers and Haagen Dazs in the Blue Pig freezer. The blue pig is still out front but this is definitely no longer the blue pig -it's now a big sell out. Not only was the ice cream sub par but the cones sucked. Also, since it's merged with the Busy Chef next door it's lost the charming ambience it once had now that it spills into cheap generic cafeteria chairs and bad prepared food. Why can't the Heights get it right?

UPDATE - the blue pig quickly responded to my posting and said the imposter icecream was just a temporary measure b/c they ran out. I am hopeful that is in fact the case and will gladly update this review once the good stuff returns!

Pros: nice staff

Cons: why bother? ice cream is now the same commercial pints sold at Gristedes

The Blue Pig has great ice cream, I've been to the this one in Brooklyn and the one in the City. The cool thing is that the Brooklyn location recently merged with it's next door neighbor, the Busy Chef (which I also go to for lunch and dinner). This makes things really easy and was a smart move, now you can get your meal and dessert in the same spot, it's truly the best of both worlds.

Pros: Busy Chef addition, ice cream

From the Blue Pig outside to the wide selection of dipped cones covered in everything from sprinkles to gummy bears this place is definitely geared for the tiniest members of the neghbourhood. They even present each cone in a plastic holder with a spill tray to catch the drips, a definite advantage in July for kids.

Flover selection is small but includes an assortment of sherberts, ice cream, and frozen yougurt from the machines, each flovor has a crazy name that will appeal to the kid in us all. Ice Cream quality is good. May seem expensive to out-of-towners but prices are comparable to our local Haagen Daz and Ben & Jerrys. Best part is the promendade is only 3 blocks away and provides a place to work off the sugar rush.
