I have gone to Recreate for a little over a year. In that time, I have seen great results. I am stronger and faster than I ever thought that I could be. I have gone down 3 clothing sizes, and I don't dread the gym anymore.
The instructors are great. They are so knowledgeable and able to train any ability level. They help you push yourself in the workouts and keep you motivated.
Before coming here, I used to spend countless hours on elliptical machines and cardio classes. I spent twice as much time and only got a small fraction of the results that I have seen at Recreate.
I love this gym, I can't recommend it highly enough.

I love this gym...from the people that workout here, to the different workouts every day, to my new found strength, and the owners that make sure each and every client is happy, safe and having fun...this place is amazing. I joined Recreate 2 1/2 years ago and haven't looked back since. I have tried everything and every type of workout out there and eventually moved on to something new due to boredom or no results. At Recreate this is not the case at all. I am never bored and the workouts are fun and challenging every day. The group classes and sense of community at Recreate Fitness cannot be matched in Portland. Period!

I do not like to exercise. I spent several years with a "gym membership" and hardly ever went. It just wasn't motivating for me to work out with strangers, run on the treadmill and then pretend like I knew how to work the weight machines. Sure the "trainers" were there to show you, but did they really show you? Or show you on your first "courtesy" session and then you'd have to pay them thereafter...anyway, that was me for most of my adult life.

But then I discovered Recreate. I thought I'd give them a shot. Wow! I am so happy I did. I am stronger and fitter than I have ever been my whole life and I'm almost 40! The work-outs are amazing. Challenging and very hard at times, but I love it! The trainers are truly what makes this place. They are the heart and soul and keep me going. They give amazing advice and are very knowledgeable. I have been a member for about two and half years and I am still inspired each class. Sure it's more expensive than the "other" gyms, but I go! And I see the results! And I have made so many friends!

My advice, if you like the treadmill and working out with strangers and paying for a membership you hardly use...this place isn't for you.

BUT, if you want to get into the best shape of your life and enjoy the process and people around you as you do it...then what are you waiting for?!?!?

I spent years trying to get truly healthy and ended up feeling frustrated, discouraged, and ultimately completely defeated.

I couldn't do it on my own at a gym and I couldn't afford enough sessions with a trainer each week to make any real progress. Plus, most of the trainers I worked with were unqualified and lacking in either knowledge or teaching ability or both.

Recreate teachers/classes are better than the most amazing personal trainer and I pay less for a month of unlimited classes than what two sessions with a chain gym personal trainer would cost.

I was skeptical at first because of the group structure - but I quickly learned that there is a team of teachers at every class and they know each of us individually and know how to push me to my limits but not be ridiculous or overboard either.

I'm so grateful to Recreate for making me feel strong and healthy and actually knowing how to get results while also making it possible for me financially on my more limited budget.

I can't recommend them enough.

you're whole body will scream in pain....and then thank you with it's exceptional hotness after a month at this gym. The expert trainer guided workouts are fun and motivating, and can be scaled to all fitness levels.

You'll do things you haven't done since you were 8, and realize you should have been throwing balls and swinging kettlebells all these years instead of wasting your life away on a stair machine, being leered at by creepy creeperson over there on the treadmill.

You can't beat the big hearts and hilarious anitcs that run rampant at recreate. You will be made to feel welcomed and encouraged every day.

If you want to lose weight, build muscle, increase endurance and actually look forward to working out, this is absolutely the gym for you.

i have been a member of recreate fitness for a little over a year and a half and i can honestly say i will never try another gym.

up until i found recreate i was a love them and leave them type of gym member. i would go hard for a few months, then quietly bow out. i have tried everything, every type of gym and nothing seemed to stick.

then i went to recreate. i knew deep down that i would probably give it a go and then call it quits after a couple of months. this was not the case. for the first time in all my gym experiences i started to care. i began to care about my performance, care about the work outs and care about the other folks along for the ride.

the work outs are always challenging, but definitely focus on the individual. nathan and tina make a point to make sure that each person is getting the most out of the work out, pushing each of us to succeed but in a realistic way. i have found that i receive more attention and training at this facility than i ever did at other gyms even with personal trainers.

it may seem abit pricier for some, but i consider it a bargain because i take full advantage of my membership. rather than signing a ridiculous contract for a gym i dread going to.

i can honestly say i will never try another.

I've wasted many dollars and even more precious time at traditional gyms, where I always ended up getting bored and losing motivation. Turns out that the secret sauce is *community*!

Recreate Fitness is a community of friendly folks who are getting fit in order to have fun. No mirrors to check yourself (or other) out. No steroided-out meatheads and elliptical bimbos. Hardly a machine in sight, in fact, save for the rowing machines that substitute for running on rainy winter days.

Everyone at Recreate is out to get stronger, faster, and better so that they can get more out of life, whether it be to hit the slopes harder, catch the surf for longer, finish the race faster, or -as in my case- just to keep up with my little kids and to play with them until they, not I, are worn out!

Nathan and Tina have fostered a family environment that encourages friendship, which translates into more reasons to attend more regularly, jump higher, run faster, and lift heavier. I think it is the PERFECT gym for me...and maybe for you, too!

I have been attending this gym for two months now and I am so grateful to myself for finding the courage to check it out. When visiting PDX I found an info card about the gym and thought it was a great idea, then I watched their video on the web site and was even more inspired...but scared that I wouldn't be fit enough to join in. It took me 3 months once I moved to Portland, to check it out.

In early November, right before my birthday, I met with the owner Tina (she and her husband own the gym) to talk about doing a couple private sessions before taking the classes - I was unable to make the Foundations Class which I hear is a great way to start. I did a total of 4 privates with Tina who was totally not trying to sell me more private sessions, or get me to purchase a pack of classes. In fact, each time we met I had to remind her that I needed to pay her. I got the sense that she was doing this because she loved it and that the business was doing well - she didnt need to beg for my business (although she was quite friendly and happy to work with me). Tina assessed my physical abilities in a supportive manner and then when I joined the classes she was always there to offer support, modifications, tips of form/technique, and suggestions on weights to lift.

The other great thing about the set up of this gym is that they have multiple trainers at every class (usually the two owners are the main trainers), they get to know your abilities and challenge you while being encouraging. My first few weeks of taking classes I was taken aside with any other newer people and given extra support for some of the moves I had not let learned. I never felt like the loser who had to have a special workout because new people - no matter how fit - have a learning curve. Everyone in the gym is pleasant and supportive.

This workout IS intense and you will work hard for an hour...the time goes by soooooo quickly because each class is divided into three parts - a warmup, a skill development, and the workout portion...some days are more strength oriented and others more cardio but regardless of the day you get enough of both!

I have seen my strength improve a lot, I have lost some weight and have more power in my legs. It is the most wonderful thing to watch yourself change - to see that you can do something you couldnt do a couple of weeks ago. Also, I am an avid yoga practitioner and always found the strength postures a challenge, this workout has a number of exercises that have helped me in my yoga practice.

If you are nervous or shy - give it a try, you might love it - i bet you will!!

I started at Recreate six months ago to change my boring gym routine from a standard weight gym, you know, the ones where people stand around trying to look pretty, staring at themselves in the mirror. After one workout, I was in, and still think the increased value you get is so much more than any increase in price.

Come in and the workout is already prepared for you, and there is no way you will quit half way through in the supportive environment. You will see great functional strength gains within days and within weeks you will most certainly have begun to recreate... your body.

it's not often that you come across a service that you can honestly and enthusiastically say is worth every single penny you spend on it...but Recreate is.
every time i go in i know my physical limits are going to be tested by ever-changing workouts and every time i leave, i feel great (albeit exhausted).

go once and you'll have a great workout. go twice and you'll be hooked.

Recreate Fitness is fantastic. The owners are ultra friendly and are amazing at catering to every individual in class. The classes are very, very challenging, but they are also addicting - you put your body through so much, but you keep coming back. The results are also addicting - if you stick with it, your body will change shape right before your eyes.
The atmosphere is very accepting of first-timers, so if that is holding you back, then it's time to get up off your rear and head to Recreate Fitness.
Worth every single penny!

I've been active and athletic for most of my life. Before going to to recreate fitness I cycled or ran almost every day, but lacked all around fitness. This is the reason that I sought out a personal trainer and was not let down by the staff at Recreate Fitness. After going to the gym for four months I'm in as good or better shape than after finishing a triathlon two years ago. The workouts are always different and, surprisingly, I pretty much always look forward to them.
I just cancelled my membership to 24Hour fitness and hope I never have to go back. The group workouts are are great and a really good value. I couldn't speak more highly of this gym.

After seeing their sandwich board at NW 19th & Overton, I decided to try a small gym vs. my usual procrastination of going to 24 Hr Fitness. I made an appointment to try one private session. After the friendly, personable attention to me and my fitness goals, I knew I had to stick with it. It takes time to get past the initial soreness, but your body will thank you. It has been five months, and I go four days a week: 2 private half-hour sessions & 2 group classes. The shape of my body has changed and my confidence in setting goals has surprised me. I am not a competitive person, and Recreate is a team environment. Everyone wants to see each other succeed. This is far better than a giant gym or home gym because you have the best fitness professionals teaching and encouraging you every minute. They know your body's limits better than you and will mix up the routine every visit. You will never get tired or bored on an exercise machine because Recreate brings back the things we all did as kids with extras like bands, jump ropes and kettlebells.

I"m a regular at the 24 hours fitness in the Pearl. I lift weights, eat right and run sprints and thought I was in great shape. Everyday Athlete gave me a chance to really improve my fitness level in a fun and challenging way. After working out there a short time I have a bigger chest and shoulders and am much leaner.

This is a gym for all fitness levels and the folks that work there are pleasant , open and friendly. Every one from the very fit to newbies can benefit from the crossfit style of working out.

The gym is small and has simple equipment, but it will get you in the shape you want to be fast.

When I started private training sessions at Everyday Athlete I did it because I knew that I needed to work out for my health and to lose weight. I am not a person that enjoys exercise but I really look forward to my workouts now and am so pleased with my progress. I have lost 12 pounds and am so much stronger than when I started. The workouts are fun, challenging and unique. The Crossfit style workouts are great because I'm done with my workout in 45 minutes and I've gotten my cardio and strength training done all at once. In the past I always thought that I had to spend an hour on the treadmill and then still have to lift weights as well. Everyday Athlete workouts are fun fast and intense!
