An incredible selection of plants--especially indoor plants at this location. I have been shopping at Portland Nursery for 15 years and I always leave happy.

They have every little thing. We go for soil amendments, seed potatoes, and we always check out the deep discounts-way in the back.

If you want a good selection of any plant this is your place. Not only do they have a good variety they have it in many size and colors. I had a budget when I went there and I came out way under.

My wife and I have been shopping at Portland Nursery for several years and they usually have an amazing, if somewhat overwhelming, selection of plants and trees, many of which I've never even heard of before seeing it there. But the people who work there are very helpful in providing information about to grow them. The information desk has also answered questions for me over the phone.
They have been helpful to us when we don't know what plant to stick in a particular section of our yard. After describing the conditions, we are usually walked around the nursery and shown a bunch of different options. This is very helpful because it's a pretty big place.
I also like that I can usually find smaller sized versions of bigger plants to save money.
I recommend it. We enjoy going there even if all we do is look around.

I love how informed the people who work at the Portland Nursery are, they are so helpful and able to quell my ever growing amount of questions and make me feel confident to grow my garden even if I am a first timer. Good selection of course as well, I wish I had room to put everything there in my own backyard.

The Portland Nursery has the largest variety of annuals, trees, scrubs in the area. The friendly staff can answer any plant related question. I will visit and purchase more in the future.

Always a great selection. The selection of plants tends to be weighted on just the side of standard varieties. You can still find good oddities and rare finds. The prices are sometimes totally out of whack. Mundane plants that I could buy in front of Fred Meyers can be over priced here, but then some are surprisingly cheap. I honestly don't know how it works. Customer service is pretty standard for a nursery. It isn't Macy's so i understand that the customer does need to at least make an effort to find an employee in such a large space. But once you do they are very helpful and readily walkie-talkie other employees if needed.

Pros: Large volume of plants

Cons: Parking is *always* sucky once the weather warms up.

if you're like most people, you like male gardeners plastered with tattoos. this is the place to look at them. sort of like a zoo, but instead tattoos on cute guys. extra points for crazy teeth! it can really take the edge off the sneering, sullen, know it all conduct. soon i lose all contact with whatever they're sniveling on about and focus in on their tattoos or teeth and it almost seems like i'm talking to a person with the disposition of a soft puppy. i try to keep my questions as obvious and stupid as possible asked in the most clumsy way i can manage...the near eye rolling is priceless....

This is a second Portland nursery that I know of but is closer to the 205 off ramp than the Stark Street one. They have just as many flowers, shrubs, trees and the help is great. Any one of the employees can offer great advice and point you to what you need.

Has Portland Nursery always been this bad? I was told that Portland Nursery had one of the best selection of plants in town, which it appears that they do, however the customer service was so bad that I couldn't stay long. I also don't plan to go back. I asked someone at the counter if anyone was able to help me with indoor plants. I felt as though I was irritating this person simply asking for help. He pointed and said, all of the indoor plants are here. Bottom line - the staff seems annoyed if you don't know everything under the sun about plants and doesn't appear to want to help customers at all.

Pros: Plants seem good

Cons: Terrible customer service

While Portland Nursery has a nice selection of plants, their customer service was bad enough that I will not visit again. A plant novice, I asked a few simple questions and received very curt answers that were condescending in tone.

Probably the best selection of plants on the whole in the city - however they carry plants which are considered invasive to native habitat, like the butterfly_bush. They also get low marks for carrying very few native plants, the lack of which is damaging native habitat.

But I'd have to give them lower marks on customer service, especially on Stark Street. On more than one occasion I have experienced the bitingly rude remark when I've asked them a question they think has an obvious answer. More often than not they will simply point across the vastness of their non-native plants when responding to questions about where something can be located - rather than lead you to the item. You're left to zero in on it yourself - if you can even find it.

Today I went in looking for a simple solution to my fuschia which never seems to get enough water. I wanted a connector to a recyclable water bottle that you slip into the soil after you fill the bottle - keeping the plant well fed on vacations. I was first told that if I valued my plants, I would install a drip irrigation system. Pretty rude, huh? But she wasn't done with me yet.

Leading me over to where such a thing might be located (she thought she had seen them before in their store) she sniffed - 'yeah, that's the kind of thing you can probably buy at Wal-mart.'

Point taken.

The Portland Nursery never fails to drain my wallet! Seriously, you won't be able to walk into this nursery without finding a whole wagon full of amazing plants. They have a huge space, with all the various species divided into type. They have a really astounding selection of perennials and groundcovers. They have a covered area with rhodies and roses, as well as a beautifully serene area with hot houseplants. They have seeds and gardening accesssories inside and even a kid's section for child size watering cans and gloves. I find their prices to be very reasonable. The staff is exceptionally helpful!!!

Why yes! Portland Nursery has an abundant selection of shrubberies and pretty much any other type of plant you might be looking for. It usually takes me entirely too long to find what I'm looking for at this particular Nursery, as it is massive. I usually end up with ten different plants I hadn't planned on buying and forget what I came for. For people who are less easily confused, I would highly reccomend Portland Nursery for all your horticultural needs.

I kill plants. It is a special talent. A friend from work recommended I try going to the Portland Nursery and talking with the people who work there. The staff was very friendly and took the time to talk with me about my needs, helped me pick out some appropriate plants and gave me detailed instruction on how to care for them. They were great. I have had very good experiences in returning to them whenever new questions or prolems arise. They have taken me from a serial killer to an occassional accidental death.
They can be a bit more expensive than some of the larger chains, but the level of consideration and knowledge far offsets any cost.

PROS: heplful and knowledgeable
CONS: limited parking

I really think this nursery is one of the best in the Portland area, offering an impressive selection of quality plants, trees, etc. at quite reasonable prices. We spent hours and hours here when we were first setting up our yard and were almost always able to find what we were looking for.

We've been very pleased with the quality of the plants we purchased here and the staff is very helpful and patient in answering questions (and we had a lot!).

Beacuse it is popular, it can get quite crowded on weekends and parking can be in short supply, but we were always able to find a spot without too much difficulty.

I love the Portland Nursery. It is the place I go for all the seeds I need. They have a tremendous selection. Looking for that unique tree or shrub you can find it here and if they dont carry it they can find it for you and have it shipped in. They also have a wonderful selection of quality plants, flowers and herbs. The staff is very friendly, and very informative always willing to answer questions. Go early on the weekends can get very crowded.

This is a great nursery with helpful staff and so many plants/garden accessories to choose from. If you are looking for something specific, you'll find it here and if you're not looking for something specific, you'll find something just your style. They carry all different ages of plants too, so you don't have to buy a huge plant if you'd rather grow a start yourself.

This nursery tops my list for its plant selection and quality. I've always been pleased with my purchases here and the staff is enormously friendly, always willing to answer questions from a beginner. A great place to get your soil or compost tested. Some cute gardening-type gifts here, as well. It can get enormously crowded on warm weekends and parking can be a struggle, though. Service is still efficient, even when it's busy

The Portland Nursery can be a bit intimidating for the first time gardner. I went in looking to start my first garden and was so pleased with my experience. The staff really took the time to help me figure out what would be the best plants given my situation. They recommended all the tools I would need without being pushy or condescending. Although the items are a bit higher in price that what I saw, I felt the service I received was worth the higher price.

PROS: Great selection of plants, tools, etc.
CONS: The price
