The state government ordered me removed from my home because I told a mouthy social worker my mom might throw a book at her. Their move was grave imprudence. A few weeks later I jogged to school because I wanted exercise and the principal put me in a mental hospital, where I was admitted by a Muslim doctor who didn't understand my standard Christian beliefs about the Trinity. I was overly-medicated so the system could steal from my poor, defenseless family. The state took custody from my parents and a week later put me in CHD. CHD Warren campus is a 3rd world joke. The staff wasn't properly trained (2003) and physically restrains (beats) kids frequently without any sort of sufficient justification. I was mocked by staff for my Christianity, for my intelligence, for my heterosexuality, everything. My first month I was isolated from everyone around the clock for insufficient reason. I was twice tackled and beaten up, thrown against walls and floors multiple times, for speaking out against the staff's incessant mockery of all of us. I was forced to watch R-rated movies against my religion and punished, so as to crush my spirit, excessively for not keeping the millions of rules they create for that purpose. I was there 4 months while they extracted outrageous fees from my parents.

I didn't say anything threatening or ambiguous at school. I made clear I wanted a jog. The principal at Richmond High School mismanaged the situation, as did the whole system there in Macomb County. I was an A/B student who went to a gifted school (MA^2S) that the principal didn't like. I was poor and had spoken out against a rich bully (Z.M.).

Don't send anyone to this 1800s sanitarium for masochistic, under-paid staff, this hell. Get this place demolished and bring its criminals to justice. Don't hire people who work here.

I'm more scarred for life from this than the things my crazy mom used to yell at me, way more. I think about this nightmare almost weekly, sometimes daily. This was anti-Christian socialist/atheist persecution.

I escaped to an independent living program through Spectrum Human Services. These people are extremely liberal and am-moral, but the staff didn't imprison and beat me.

Speaking as a once client of Children's Home of Detroit, I can tell you that while some of the things were good about the institution. The major flaws with the program, were the staffing too many hours the people had to work and the too often willingness of them to remote to physically restraining a child and then the unprofessionalism of the place, too many kids and not enough willing people who wanted to actually help the children with their problems, and the changing rules every five minutes to suite the needs of the staff. I understand that sometimes in situations where the child may be a danger to themself or others that it may require action of the physical nature however to sit and laugh about having to do so or talking derogatory to a child is not the way to help a child. The program, honestly reminds of me a locked down funhouse that at times turns into a house of horrors it should be shut down if they cannot up their game to suite the needs of the youth.

Children??s Home of Detroit ?? Warren Campus is by far the worst psychiatrict program I have ever encountered. As a foster care / adoptive parent for severely emotionally disturbed children I have worked with numerous mental health professionals in out patient, in home, inpatient and residential treatment plans including Hawthorn, Harbor Oaks, Havenwyke, etc.
CHD ?? Warren Campus's program is not individualized to meet the child's needs, rather they expect the client to fit their program. I have experienced first hand that true ??Person Center Planning? is not part of this organization's mission. Religious and moral beliefs of the client and families are disregarded instead of respected. Against parental objections the child in treatment is being allowed to see movies and play video games that carry warnings of violence, sexual content, and objectionable language. This child??s major issues are violence, inappropriate sexual behavior, reactive attachment disorder. Also noteworthy is the fact that staff also provided documentation to and encouraged the child to seek ??Independent Living? as an option upon discharge instead of returning home as the treatment plan stated.
Please note that at the beginning of placement at CHD ?? Warren there was a very a capable and dedicated therapist, who has worked as a therapist for 23 years, who was progressively working with this child and family, but was fired by CHD - Warren because the therapist was writing person centered treatment plans that did not fit the cookie cutter treatment program CHD ?? Warren had in place. The treatment program that was in place was immediately abandoned as soon as the therapist was fired. What a travesty! Plans should always be individualized and never should be the same for everyone!
Please contact Association for Children??s Mental Health AND the Recipient??s Rights Office if you are experiencing problems getting appropriate services. If we do not speak out against violations ?? corrections will never be made.
