I'm from New Orleans so I'm probably overly critical of this place but I'd say the food wasn't great. However I loved the decor and i felt like I was at home in Louisiana. Someone who has had a lot of experience with Southern Cajun and creole food probably won't be impressed with this place but I'd recommend it to those from Berkeley. The food is unique for this region.

Dinner at Angeline's is a real treat. You feel as though you are visiting New Orleans. All of the dishes are good, but my favorites are those with crayfish. Once, on their one year anniversary, the entire menu was a variety of crayfish dishes. Don't miss the wonderful benets for desert.

They really should invent a cream for that....

Anyway, like I said, I recently returned from backpacking the East Coast, where my final stop was New Orleans. The trip itself was particularly meaningful, as it involved much character-building and quitting my job.

That said, I must confess that Angeline's in Berkeley serves food as good or better than much of what I had (in the same price range) in the French Quarter. We are blessed with fortune, as Angeline's also conveniently lies a few blocks from the Downtown Berkeley BART Station.

I spent quite a bit of money on food during my first visit: Jambalaya, Gumbo, Boudin and the Banana Fosters Bread Pudding. All of it was spectacular. I cannot wait to go back.
