This is my favorite place to watch a band in the Old Sunset Strip style. One of the few clubs that has launched everyone's career.

I was appaulled by how rude the staff was my girlfriend went outside for a smoke and they would not let her back in. The door woman said she was too drunk. I myself was sober and can tell if she is drunk or not,and trust me she wasnt. I just felt it was wrong to leave her on the street and not contact me or any of her other friends upstairs after paying an entry fee. Neither me or any of my friends will return to this venue no matter who is playing. Bad business.

This club is ok but not my type. They have some very interesting concerts here and there, but it is always supercrowded and dark and supernoisy. So if at 25 do not mind a bunch of people smooshed into you, when you get a bit older you probably will, so I recommended for the young at heart.

The Roxy is a very happenin joint in town. All of the upcoming bands play here. The tickets are not expensive at all. If you are lucky you will see a band you may even know. Its a cute little hole in the wall place right off the strip.

I liked it as a change. The place was crowded but the music was good and the beer was cold. Saw a few people I knew there checking out the place. Check it out.

Went here for a friend's birthday on a Saturday night. Had really good fun. I was afraid I was going to have fun because I am not that into hard rock. But the good drinks started flowing and my friends and I all started using those poles they have.

Seems like lately the Roxy is coming back up. I like that they are booking a good range of talent, from up and comers to successful bands. It's a good place to see music. I like that there are seating options, and the On the Rox bar above it is cool too. This is one of the best venues for live music on the Strip. I've heard they have a drink minimum, but I've never actually seen that enforced.

Cons: all ages, plastic cup drinks, parking on the strip

Being from LA a lot of people will tell you that the strip is meant for 1980's hair band throw backs and masters of the transient brigade. But tucked in between an unmitigated s**t sandwich of leathered-out ratty haired places you can find that diamond in the rough... that truffle buried deep in the soil... The Roxy Theatre stands strong and proud. Dark in the day - illuminated by neon in the night. You can never guess what crowd will be there because they don't stick to booking the same genre every - single - night. The sound, the stage, the crowd and the drinks fit for THE BEST PLACE to see a live band perform. The diamond shape staged envelopes you (the audience) and includes you as part of the show and the energy permeates your skin and goes straight for your soul. As you can tell I am a huge fan of The Roxy... but you really can't beat a place without a bad siteline in the room and drinks that are cheaper than most clubs or bars in Hollywood that are definitely not watered down... Don't wait to check out a show here because it is the absolute in LA!

the sound system at this classic LA venue is hands down best around. i saw INVITRO last night at the roxy and the band was a little heavier than i would normally listen to but i could here every note, every instrument. the bass was super rocking. i don't know who does the lights but i was floored by the light show. there were gigantic balloons, and strobes and confetti. it was like an out of body experience. INVITRO at the roxy, 2 thumbs up!

Pros: sound, lights and bands. oh yeah and the cocktail servers are hot!

Cons: parking, but it seems to be getting better. you can park across the street for $5-$7

when it's the right band, the roxy has the best sound system around. not a bad seat in the house. staff seemed cool. drinks were cold. the rainbow is a fun place to go before or after.

In the past year The Roxy has done a complete turn around in their booking. I don't know who is in charge there now, but things have greatly improved. The sound is still amazing as ever, the staff is friendly and courteous and the bands/artists that are showing up on the calendar are AWESOME! I go to the Roxy at least once a month now. And their website is one of the coolest sites I've ever seen for a venue. Although the calendar could be more user friendly. Great job Roxy, glad to see you are coming back to the top!

The Roxy, once known for its grandeur on the Strip, has seen what I like to call, "better booking days." They could easily turn themselves back into a destination venue, if they looked a little closer at the bands they allow to grace their stage. A wonderful stage - where sound is mixed very well, 85% of the time (more than other Strip venues can boast these days) - and a great atmosphere to see your favorite band.... now let's bring more of our favorite bands in, and forget the "I just recorded this in my bedroom," high-school and college bands that would better be heard at frat-parties and in neighbors' garages.

Cheers,
Hopeful Roxy Listener

PS - Don't get me started on their, shall we say, "not-so-user-friendly," and cluttered website. I'm just saying that this year might not be the year to call them "best of city-search."

This is one of the best places to see a show. It's intimate, sound is great. And when it's crowded the energy is electric.

This is a wonderful, intimate nightclub in the heart of the Sunset Strip. One of the nicest places to see a club show. Unfortunately, the Roxy rarely books acts really worth seeing. But if they do, don't hesitate to see a show here.

I've seen a few gigs here over the last year or so and I didn't notice a lot of people getting high or being high but I also didn't notice a lot of people getting drunk either and that's because more than half the house was packed with minors. Little girls running around in short skirts and Uggs, lots of braces. They seem to book a lot of young bands which attracts a younger crowd. I'm still in my early thirties and feel pretty old everytime I'm there. Still, it's not a bad venue with more space than someplace like the Whiskey and fewer bouncers telling you you're on the wrong side of some line painted on the floor.

PROS: fairly large and open, big stage
CONS: too many minors

"People don't go for the music they go to get they drug network on. Good girls like me need not apply"

I think I remember making out with Klialauren B. back in 95 while waiting in line for some metal show. This place rocks if you are in the mood fora good rock band and some vibes of old sleazy sunset strip. (Hell, go to the Rainbow next door!) The place actually just got remodeled and they are trying to make it a more appealling place to book bands. So it may be on the upswing. Was $50 too much topay for a d-bag?

Most everyone standing in line is high. The cop patrolling the middle of Sunset to nab cruisers is high. And of course, the final scene for Cheech and Chong's 'Up In Smoke' was filmed there. I still remember the first time I went there. I closed my eyes and saw a vision of Stacey Keach in a sarong shoving fistfulls of hot pizza in his mouth proclaiming 'I am stoned, damnit, I am stoned!' Now, I am not condoning the use of any illegal drug, but I have to say my first show at the Roxy was Cypress Hill (aka La Familia). The chronic was in use so unabashedly that the DJ had to remind everyone that unless they had a doctor's note, marijuana was still technically illegal in California.
Anyhoo, I like the idea that you can get 20oz plastic MGDs there, and it is a great intimate venue with perfect acoustics. If you only have one night in LA -and the band is good- do yourself a favor and check out the Roxy. I'm not sure if they've fixed the rocking neon R yet, though...

They never have any good music. The service is nearly non-existent, especially considering how few people they have to wait on. In fact, if it weren't for the bartender and the waiters, there would be less than 5 people there to see the acts. If any place could use a revival, it's this one. I heard it used to be cool.

Pros: Good Size, Big Stage, Places to Sit

Cons: Empty, No Talent, Sad

Great place to see a show as the size is small enough that you can see the band from anywhere. Last time I was at the Roxy the place was packed and the only downside I ran across is the ventilation was lacking.

i saw the stone temple pilots at the roxy in july of 2001, and damn, that is the place to see a band. as soon as you walk in the stage is RIGHT THERE!!
the staff was nice, bathrooms where small, but thats seems to be the norm of clubs on the sunset strip.

Everything about the Roxy is great. The sound is amazing, the people are cool and the stage is pretty big too! But just when you thought it was safe to sit down. Boom, here come the 2 drink minimum police. You either buy some really expensive drink or stand. I guess if you're there to drink it's cool.

Editorial from

In Short
The club itself has the potential to be intimate, but the acts that play this legendary spot in Hollywood are far too wild to keep things quiet--especially not with one of the best sound systems on the Sunset Strip.…
