I am a frequent client and one time my massage therapist didn't shop up because of a car problem. I had to wait half an hour before somebody told me that she's not going to show up and that there's somebody else who can take care of me but I have to wait another 30 minutes. I know that they were trying their best but I couldn't wait. They gave me a $40 gift certificate before I left. The receptionist apoligized profusely but I was disappointed because I am a patron. After an hour, the owner called me, apologized and offered me a complementary aromatherpay massage. And as an icing to the cake, she gave me this Wantsmores - homemade chocolate covered graham crackers with toffee and nuts that tastes really good. Never had it before. So in short, they may screw up here and there but they take care of their customers. I commend their customer service.

SSF seems to be expanding their horizons and Luminous Day Spa is a welcomed addition. Easy metered parking where you can still get about 20 minutes for your quarter-no cost on Sundays. The spa is a welcoming site with it's warm color scheme and slightly scented candles. Water and tea is available for the asking if they don't ask you first. Great, friendly staff and the owner is usually at the reception desk which is a really nice touch. My only objection is because the rooms are not 'capped' off with ceilings (all pipes are exposed) you can hear the noise coming from the hallway when others are arriving for their treatments. It is kept to a minimum but it's something you'll need to think about before booking. I've had a facial, manicure and pedicure and have been happy with the treatments. They closed the deal when they said that the manicures and pedicures were done in a private room and the pedicure was done while you're lying on a massage table. LOVE having a room to my own. Hate the noise from what I call the 'cattle' call salons. The one reason I've gone to Nordstrom to have my pedicures was that they also put you in a private room but their cost is much, much higher. If you don't think you'll mind the noise from the open ceilings, which is not that distracting, then I would highly recommend this spa for your next treatment. They will also close the spa if you plan a 'girls day out'. I believe you'll need 4-6 girlfriends. Good Luck and enjoy - Angie

Luminous Day Spa is soooo what south san francisco needed. I saw the "coming soon" sign for Luminous Day Spa one day when I was getting my Peets coffee. I have been waiting for it to open ever since. As soon as I saw they were open I scheduled for a facial and a massage. The parking lot directly next to the spa is for FIVE HOURS!!! And, it's only a quarter for 20 minutes. When you enter, you think it's this cute little day spa, the retail area is very warm and smells soooo good. I was greeted with a smile and was asked if I would like any tea or infused water while I filled out my form. Again....I was very excited, I chatted with the receptionist for a while...which never happens in the city. I love the customer service already. Patricia called me in for my facial and here's the surprising part, just past the huge door in the waiting area was this HUGE HALLWAY that lead back to a party area. Patricia told me they do spa parties all the time. I was like"I am so happy I was the first out of my friends to discover this place." I couldn't wait to tell them about it. To add to my excitement, the facial was incredible! But, I was not done. I was given a spa robe and escorted over to my massage room where the bed was lit from beneath and candles everywhere. Just next to my massage room was a gigantic shower, i said to myself "HOLY CRAP" I can't wait to shower in that bad boy. My massage was great, Veronica was very interested in my needs and checked up with me during my massage. I think I fell asleep for a little bit. I booked for an hour but I should have booked for 90 minutes because it felt like it went quick. She turned on the shower for me, and again...to my amazement the shower had like FIVE SHOWER HEAD JET THINGY'S. It steamed up the whole room and I was sooo relaxed.
I wanted to hi-five everyone when I left. My next appointment is a pedicure....which they do while you lie down! i can't wait!

Walking into to this spa was pretty impressive especially going beyond the reception door. You almost feel as if you are somewhere in Napa, minus the showers, jacuzzi and surrounding vineyards. I booked for a 1 hour massage which was $15 more than what my regular masseuse charges (she is always booked and usually cannot book same day) I specifically asked for a deep tissue massage which is what I am accustomed to, which I did not receive. As explained to me by my masseuse " I like to get to know what's going on with you before going into a deep massage" I even explained that on a monthly basis I alternate between deep tissue and shiatsu (pure acupressure) Yes, I definitely have muscle tightness issues. I don't know about the average person but usually I expect not only what I pay for but more of what I ask for. It was better than nothing I thought until I started to hear every noise from shutting of doors to high heels on concrete floor to garbages being dumped. Well what I didn't realize when I first walked past the reception door, is that the rooms provided for massages do not, I repeat, do not have a ceiling. The rooms are completely open due to "a SSF building code" . Unfortunately, I would not reccomed this spa to people for a massage. They do provide many other services. (facials, waxing etc)
