We have had an on going problem with our refrigerator for months. We also have had several other companies give us estimates on the job. No one had compared in price or professionalism like General Appliance Repair. The repairman was punctual unlike most. He came in, checked out the problem thoroughly and gave us a very reasonable and fair estimate. We agreed and the job was done very shortly there after. If you don't want to waste your time and money, give these guys a call.

I was impressed that General's technician was professional and very knowledgeably regarding the repair of my high end appliance! I have full Viking appliances; and am lucky to have David at General to not only repair my oven, but to show me features I was unaware of after owning the oven for over 2 yrs. The service and expertise I received from General Appliance was affordable and complete.I recommend them to anyone who wants good honest service.

I just got through reading reviews before I wrote mine and I was perplexed by the variance of service reviews. The only conclusion I could come up with is that there are people who are wound to tight and then their are people who are gracious and understand that they are not the only people on the planet. With that being said, I had the best experience with these people and always get good service from them.
The whole repair time was maybe 1 hour!! Kindness and understanding goes a really long way that's why I will always call on General Appliance.
Five Star ***** in my contacts.

General Appliance Repair Inc. has done terrible work for me. I have been charged for a new SUB ZERO ice machine maker that never worked. They came out a second time and replaced the filter for the charge of 50 dollars in which a check was written to the repairman personally. The third time they came out they attempted to charge me an additional 285.06 for the same filter change and a water valve replacement. The forth visit I was charged 83.90 for another filter change and valve replacement. The repair that was done on the forth visit for 83.90 was 201.16 LESS then what they tried to charge me on the third visit for the same repair. On the fifth visit they looked over all of the work they had preformed previously and told me that it was a bad compressor in my refrigerator and that they would be able to replace it for an addition 630 dollars and that if I didn't want to do that they would charge 150 dollars for freeon. BOTH of which I had absolutely no need for considering my refrigerator still blew cold air and my freezer was working properly. On the 6th visit AGAIN they looked over there work and told me that I had bad plumbing. So instead of going through the proper steps in refrigeration repair and testing all options before replacing the machine they did all this work that wasn't needed and charged me a total of 592.88, 50 dollars of which was written to the one repairman personally.

1. DO NOT USE! These guys are as crooked as they come

2. Check their BBB rating if you don't believe all of the negative reviews. They got an F.

3. If you do call them, pay by credit card and not by check so you can at least dispute the charge once you realize you've been ripped off

My wife and I called from the phone book for the $35 ad and 30% off labor.

The guy walked in the door 2 hours late, walked to the fridge, stuck his finger in the back of the icebox and said $450. $275 if you want just the door.

I said $450! Wow, what's the labor charge. "We don't do that"

The repair for the door requires taking off the door (5 min) putting in something liek a washer, and putting the door back on. Total labor: 15min tops for a professional.

I called the general number from the phone book - same deal "We dont' charge by the hour - only by the job". No wonder - hourly costs run 400-600/hr.

Only reason I'm not cancelling the check is because it costs me another $15 and a headache to talk to Boris (The Owner) on why I think his company is an invoice revenue scam.

DONT CALL - SCAM IMO.

(I had to put one star...no stars is not an option.)

the repairman actually did a good job on repair my A/C unit. After all, it was not a hard thing to replace a capacitor, which you can usually get the part for under 50. they charged me 225 for the part. the guy only spend 10 min get the job done and asked 200 for the work. I regret letting him start doing the job, because I realized the part is a lot cheap elsewhere. The service guy is just rude. DON'T use them!!!

This is a horrible company. I would have given them no stars, but you need to put one down. The service guy on the phone called me a liar and began screaming from the top of his lungs at me on the phone for no reason at all. I was calm during the conversation (was at work and was not allowed to scream back). Customers are last in their eyes. Money hungry crooks is what they are. Extremely horrible service. Will never use again. Rather buy a new refri. then have them work on it.

By far the best repair service that I have every used. Everyone from the technicians to the customer service representives were very informative, polite, and professional. I've used them for all of my kitchen and laundry appliances and not once have I been disappointed. Even this one time when something when wrong with the repair, I called them and the technician came back right away and corrected the problem. I've referred them to all of my friends and family members and they're all satisfied customers as well. They've got themselves a lifetime customer here.

My dishwasher wasn't working properly so I called my Home Warranty company to send someone out to fix it. They told me General appliance repair would call me in a day. I didn't hear from them for about 2 weeks. They left a message on my voice mail so I called them back and left a message and still haven't' heard back from them and it's been months.

This company and the technicians are very unprofessional. They will just give you a quote off the top of their head. I also found out that the 30% discount to new customers is just a tactic to attract new customers. When the guy was here, he wasn't even able to tell me how much the labor was going to be. He told me that he had already included the 30% discount in his quote. What I learned after using this company is "penny wise, pound foolish." I called them because they had a low estimate fee of $35 dollars. However, they ended up charging me outrageosly. I regret allowing the technician work on my fridge. Remember: DO NOT USE THEM!

This was my first time looking for a repair service. I looked on the internet trying to find a reputable repair service. I went with these guys because of the $35 estimate fee, and what looked like good reviews. That was a HUGE mistake. First, a repair guy came out and looked very unprofessional. He had me empty my freezer, he did absolutely nothing, and said that it would be $250 to fix. After a lot of back and forth trying to get him to tell me what was wrong, he said that it was an electrical issue and that he would have to come out the next day with a computer to fix it. We finall agreed on a price for $200.
The next day, he didn?t show. Instead a new guy came. He thought he was the first one diagnosing it. His conclusion was that I was out of FREON. I asked to make sure, and he confirmed it was the very expensive, no longer used FREON gas. This is a 1 year old fridge. At this point, I knew he was a fraud. He wanted $275 to fill it up with "Freon". When I declined that, he said that my estimate fee would be $55 and not $35 because he had to put a valve onto my refrigerant line to test the level. If I declined to pay, he was going to take it off and leave a hole in my line.
In the end, I only paid the $35, and I wouldn?t allow him to touch the fridge to take the valve off. I told him that he could call the cops if he had a problem with that. As a diagnosis, he was almost correct. After some checking, I found that the fridge uses r134. So, it took $15 for r134 to fix the problem, not $275 of "Freon".
In short, these people are frauds. DO NOT USE THEM.

My fridge broke and I googled to find a reputable and trustworthy company to fix my fridge. GAR's website came up and when you visit their website, it looks very professional. However, it was not in reality. First of all, they say the technician would come between 3-5pm. He didn't show up until 4:50 pm. Turned out they had gotten the wrong number (duh!). Then the tecnician who showed up didn't look professional at all. He came in, asked what was wrong, while I was explaining, he ordered me to take eveyrthing out of the freezer and stopped listening to me. Then he looked at it for like 30 seconds, and gave me a quote - $225! I wasn't happy at that point, and mentioned that there was the 30% discount on labor advertised on their website. He then says the quote he gave me already included the 30% discount. (Yeah, right!). When I demanded a breakdown on how he came up with the $225 and which part is labor and which part covers the parts to be replaced, he started giving me random numbers, basically trying to substract from the full 225 he quote me on. When I tried to argue with him, he even tried to lecture me how most customers just accept the quote without asking him to break it down. (What a lie!)

I ended up allowing him to do the job ONLY BECAUSE I didn't want to go through the hassle of getting a second opinion. I knew it wasn't anything major and that he would be able to do the job fine. They do charge $35 for estimates. However, I would NOT use them again and would NOT recommend them to others. It always costs an arm and leg to have things repaired, and I'm fine with that. But along with what I pay, I also expect professionalism knowing that they are taking things seriously, and not having an attitude like "here's the quote, take it or leave it." I have used other companies' technicians and were very happy with the way they conducted business. It just was not the case with GAR because they make you feel like you've been taken advantage of.

These guys are great! Aside from a momentary lapse of communication, they arrived basically on time (I may have misunderstood the time frame) and took care of my GE fridge problem immediately. In fact, the service guy was great about telling me how to maintain my fridge to keep it working properly. No extra charges, no trying to upsell me on parts or additional services, just good friendly service. I would not hesitate to call them again for appliance service.

I called GA really late Saturday night after I discovered my subzero refrigerator was not cooling. They came out first thing Sunday morning and had the whole thing up and running by 10AM! Their prices were about the same as my usual guy but he would have charged me extra for Sunday where GA did not. I was also happy to see that they carried all the parts needed in their truck and were able to fix it on the first trip.

They replaced my broken garbage disposal within about two hours of my initial call. I will say that their prices were a bit above what others had quoted me over the phone, however, they were the only ones who could come out and get the job done right away. The 30% off labor coupon did eventually bring their price below most others. They also gave me a fairly lengthy warranty at no additional charge.

Don't believe that "unfounded slander" business... that is EXACTLY what happened to me last week. I actually looked to Citysearch to find a reliable appliance repair company, and besides the one, they have a great record, so I went with them. I needed my stove fixed and The Gas Company had come that day and told me exactly what needed to be repaired. He described it as an easy fix and told me exactly what I needed performed. When G.A.R. arrived, he opened up my stove, and told me that it WASN'T what the trusty Gas Company said it was. It needed two parts, he said, and and then told me that he needed to order those parts, and find out if they were even available anymore, as I have an antique stove. It was just as I'd feared...I felt already like I'd been duped by a corrupt auto mechanic! He assured me (twice) that he'd call me the next day to tell me the status of the parts to be ordered and I paid him his $50(!) for the service call.

Next day.... no call... so at 5 p.m. I called to inquire about the parts. They told me they would contact my repairman and call me right back. Surprise.... no call again.

I waited one, two, three days, and on the fourth (mind you, I have no way to cook this whole time), I called and told them I wanted my money back because they had not fulfilled their part of the deal which was, at least, informing me if they could get these "parts" or not! They told me that they'd make a formal complaint to the owner. The only person who called me was the actual repairman, yelling at me for complaining. I called every day for the next couple of days... and finally asked "Should I plan on NEVER getting a call back from a supervisor?" to which they said "yes". During this call, they also told me they would never refund my service call fee. Their customer service is HORRIFYING! They also have an F rating on a certain bureau's website.

Meanwhile, Antique Stove Heaven fixed my stove, and it was done in 15 mins., no parts needed ordering.

I have used General Appliance Repair repeatedly over the years and have never had a problem. They always give a fair estimate and have even told me when an appliance was not worth repairing. After 5 or 6 trips out to my house and about as many referrals to friends and family, I still have no complaints.

After 5 or 6 trips out to my house and about as many referrals to friends and family, I still have no complaints.

Pros: estimate up front, good suggestions, reliable

Cons: none come to mind

.

1. Called for an estimate, they wouldn't give me any instructions over the phone, said they can't say anything until a technician comes in. Technician arrived, said he can't diagnose anything because the fridge was unplugged. I said, "how come I wasn't told on the phone to keep it plugged in". Technician basically said "tough luck", charged me $45 and said they will come again any day within 3 hours of my call.

2. I call again after I plug the fridge in, call them again. Now they told me they are booked indefinitely, and can't even give me a time when they are available. I then asked for a refund of the original charge, they were very rude saying something like "You are not going to see your money again" (literally).

3. Long story short, I call the credit card company, dispute the charge, and will never call General Appliance Repair service again.

Pros: not sure, as they didn't perform any work

Cons: dishonest, trying to rip customers off

A live person answered the phone late at night to make an appointment for the next morning. They came out on time, fixed my refrigerator in one trip, and the prices seemed pretty reasonable. I'd suggest mentioning the coupon to save some money.

When I called to have my refrigerator serviced, the service was promt and very professional. Furthermore, the serviceman came at the exact time as promised. I was given a reasonable quote and the repair was done promptly. There was no waiting for parts. All work was done on the same day.
I would call upon this same company to have my other appliances fixed. Overall, I am very satisfied with the repair.

Randomly picked them out of the phone book and it worked out very well. I ended up using them twice in a two week period (for different appliances) and I will use them again in the future.

I had an estimate from another company that I wasn?t very happy with. I called General Appliance and they beat the estimate by about 25% and gave me a better warranty on the parts.

The refrigerator in my garage stopped cooling. I called General Appliance Repair and their helpful staff sent a technician out right away. He came out and gave me an estimate to do the repair but recommended against it as the refrigerator was pretty old and not worth putting that much money into. I paid their service charge and sent the technician on his way.
I called around to compare the price they gave me and it was in line with or lower than what other companies quoted me over the phone, however, I ended up taking the technician's advice and putting the money towards a new refrigerator. I can't comment on their repairs as I didn't have anything done but I would definitely recommend them if you are looking for an honest diagnosis and a competitive estimate.

My refrigerator broke down a little after 10:00pm and after calling about 7 other companies and getting answering machines I called these guys and got a live person. They offered to come out right away but I decided to make an appointment for the next morning. They were on time, well mannered, reasonably priced, and my refrigerator works great. Thanks Tom! I'll be sure to call them in the future and I recommend you do as well.

Tom was very friendly and professional over the phone, and helped me schedule an appointment during off hours because I work during the day. (I called several other companies and no one could come out during the time I needed). My dryer was fixed quickly, and the charge was reasonable. No complaints.

I came home from work around 5:30 PM to find my freezer completely defrosted and the food in my refrigerator going bad. I went to the phonebook and found a card for General Appliance right on top. I called and spoke with Tom and there was a technician at my home before 7. They did the necessary repairs and my fridge was cold before I went to bed. I see there is a 25% off labor coupon here but when I mentioned the ad from the phonebook they honored that higher discount of 30% off labor. I've used other appliance companies before and I have never felt as comfortable with one as I felt with General. I'll be sure to call them again in the future.

I called at 8 in the morning and Greg was at my house by 10 o'clock to fix my washing machine. He was very professional and gave me a price that was significantly lower than two other estimates I was given by other companies. Quick, easy procedure and the washing machine works great -- no problems at all.
