I visited Byu-Ti once and will not be back. The owner was rude, condescending and unprofessional.

I love going to Byu-ti because it is more than just a hair cut, it's an experience. There is never a long wait, and their stylists are very good at looking at your face and hair type and knowing what style will work for you. Both my sister and I go here and love it. Give it a try. Stacey is the best!

I love the atmosphere at Byu-ti, it's clean and refreshing! The staff is friendly yet professional; you get some uptown pampering without the snobby "pretty woman"-type customer service.

I can always get an appt on short notice if I have a hair emergency, and I always get an appt reminder call and email, which is perfect because I am very forgetful.

Byu-ti always has a good promotion going on to help you save some cash, and they have tons of products available in-store, but aren't pushy if you don't care to purchase their supplies.

5 Stars for BYU-TI!

** This salon PAYS customers to write good reviews ($25 off next service) so basically, all the 5 stars on here mean NOTHING. **

I have easy to cut hair, and have never once been upset about a hair cut. I went to Byu-ti to see Angela, and received what is by far the absolute worst hair cut of my life. Even my husband asked what on earth had happened. When I went in, Angela and I talked about my hair, and I explained that I did not want any layering in the back, and wanted light layering in the front. I'm not sure if she just wasn't listening, or perhaps didn't care, but she proceeded to butcher my hair. I considered posting a picture so you can see that this is not a case of a dramatic response to a fine hair cut. The right side is significantly different from the left. And instead of cutting the inch one inch I asked for, she cut about three and a half. On the right side, there is a chunk of hair that starts in the front and goes back behind my ear that's all one length. It looks like Angela thought about cutting it one length, and then changed her mind and made the rest of the hair a completely different length.

However, while the bad hair cut is upsetting enough, the owner's behavior really sealed the deal. The salon scheduled me for a re-do with Stacey. Stacey was nice, and agreed that it was a very bad hair cut. She said that Angela had clearly "fu**ed up." She explained that it can't be fixed without cutting the entire back of the hair to meet the front chunk, but she could at least soften it. I appreciated her input, but decided that I would have it cut at a better salon. Stacey was understanding and said she'd be happy to help me fix it if I changed my mind.

Then the owner, Natasha, comes out. Before I had gone back this morning, I read through the Yelp reviews. And a previous review had said that "Natasha was very unapologetic and told me my straight hair was very difficult to cut for a number of reasons." And indeed, this is exactly what happened. Natasha gives me the most condescending look, and explains that it's actually a good hair cut and the problem is my hair, which she says is so very thick. It absolutely is not. She then proceeds to explain that the chunk is only because my hair problematically falls to one place. As she's talking, she keeps repeating that what she's saying is probably way over my head and I can't really understand. Um, thanks.

I was so shocked that she's saying exactly what the previous Yelp review complained about. And I asked her--wait, so you're saying this is a good hair cut, even though Stacey just told me it's a bad hair cut and Angela had clearly "fu**ed up." She didn't like that and snapped at me that we weren't getting anywhere and I should just take my money and leave.

Which is exactly what I did.

Byu-Ti is a wonderful salon located close to Third Street Promenade and the ocean in Santa Monica. When you enter, you will see a modern, white decor that is Asian inspired. The staff consists of very friendly professional hairdressers who know exactly what they do! They listen to how I would like to have my hair cut and colored and I have never left the place disappointed. On top of the great service, the place is also reasonably priced.

I have seen 3 stylists and each one took the time to really talk to me and get a good understanding of what I am hoping to get out of my hair cut as well as my hair color. I have been very happy with every cut/color I have had there. I will be a loyal customer for years to come. Dani is who I have been seeing the last several appointments and she is really great.

Rea cut my hair and she was great. I told her I didn't know how to curl my hair so she said next time, she will teach me! I was in and out within an hour which is how I prefer it.

Byu-ti offers great deals to their customers. I highly suggest signing up for their email newsletters. They are obnoxiously sent out every week. Just every once and awhile to alert you of the great deals in the salon!

If you need a cut, this is the place to go!

Byu-ti is a warm and welcoming place. I have been a client there for approximately a year now and I look forward to getting my hair done. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Slyvia is my stylist and she is wonderful. She never makes you feel like she is rushing you out to get to her next appointment. She will take care of you and takes her time getting your hair the way you want it. I would recommend Byu-ti to anyone.

Byu-ti is also a great place because they are always offering specials for referrals, return visits, etc. Plus it's close to 3rd Street in Santa Monica, shopping after a haircut is highly recommended too!

I found Byu-ti online and am so glad I did! I make the trek from Hollywood to Santa Monica on a regular basis because this salon is the best. Reasonable prices, caring and knowledgable stylists, and beautiful atmosphere are just a few of the reasons I love this place. AND they give you coupons and incentives to save money! I have seen Laura and Whitney and both of them have been perfectly attentive to my needs, while advising me what would be the best for my (previously) badly damaged hair. Also, the front desk customer service has always been outstanding. I won't go anywhere else now- I'm hooked on Byu-ti!

I am so happy I found this place. Everyone that works there is so nice, there are fun discounts and deals if you refer friends which i did and they followed through on them. Also, I got a free manicure during my highlights! I had Andi fix my hair after highlights from someone else that did not turn out right and she took me in last min and stayed late and even sent me home with deep conditioner samples to treat my hair - and they called to see how i liked it after - great customer service.... I am going back to Andi and Byuti again!

I had an apt with Sylvia for haircut and partial highlights, and I have to say that this was hands down the best experience I have had in a hair salon. I was really impressed how thorough she was in discussing all of my hair needs/problems and how she made sure to follow all of my requests. The color turned out fantastic and exactly how she explained it would, and the haircut made such a difference for my styling routine! Overall, the salon had a great relaxing atmosphere and the staff was extremely attentive and friendly.

I couldn't be more happy that I found this place and would recommend it in a heartbeat!

I got my hair pretty much chopped off like 6-7 inches. What's so great here is that they had an option for me to donate my hair! That was great. I am going back in next week for my butter treatment. I cannot wait! :)

A friend asked if I wanted to try her salon (BYU-TI) for an eyebrow wax since they were offering half-off the price for you and a friend. I went and I'm so happy I did! My eyebrow stylist took the time to ask me how I felt about the shape of my eyebrows and recommended a small change in the shape. I am so glad I did because the small change actually made a big difference! She was also careful to ask if I was on Retin-A which I really appreciated since one time before, when a waxer failed to ask me that question, he tore off my skin. Luckily, I am not currently on it so she was able to do a fabulous job.

The receptionist at the counter was very friendly and told me about a few discounts they were offering including 20% off any products. I was able to buy my expensive shampoo, conditioner, and conditioning treatment for way less than I pay at the beauty supply store I usually go to. I also booked a hair appointment with my friend's stylist and will get $25 off and a free eyebrow wax when I get my haircut! Altogether, I think I'm saving around $60 on 2 eyebrow waxes. products, and a haircut! The products and eyebrow wax was excellent -I will write more after I get my haircut.

Sura was my hairdresser, and she was great. Sura spent time discussing the haircut I wanted--we flipped through many booklets to find something similar to what I was looking for. The haircut turned out great, she gave great tips and although she asked if I wanted to purchase any products, she didn't pressure me into buying anything.

Byu-ti has a number of promotions going on for first-time guests. I booked my next appointment in 6 wks, so if all continues to goes well, I will bump the rating to 5 stars.

I have been going to a high end Beverly Hills salon for the past ten years. I never thought I would let anyone but my stylist/colorist touch my hair ever again, I was wrong. After one of my girlfriends came to dinner with the cutest cut and color ever, I just had to know where she got it done. She told me about Byu-ti and Whitney (her stylist) and I decided that I needed to go in for a consultation. I went in thinking I would just get a condition done, but ended up getting a treatment, cut and color! I was thrilled with everything. Whitney was amazing and she did an unbelievable job with my hair. I will never go anywhere else. Overall, I would say that my experience was excellent, the girl at the front desk was nice and welcoming, they gave me a cute robe to wear around while I got my hair done, and my hair looked better than ever. The best part was that I paid half of what I normally paid in Beverly Hills. I highly recommend this salon to anyone who is looking for high end quality AND reasonable prices.

Awful hair cut. My first appointment was with Luciana. I requested an angled cut ? long in front, short in back ? what?s referred to as an A-Line cut. There was a client in another chair getting almost that exact cut and I pointed to that client while I was getting my hair washed. After two hours in the chair, I walked away with the left side about half an inch longer than the right ? and the back was choppy and uneven. I emailed Natasha and she offered to fix my hair. When I went in to see Natasha, despite seeing the unevenness, she was very unapologetic and told me my straight hair was very difficult to cut for a number of reasons. She straightened the cut and now it?s a decent haircut ? but it?s not what I had asked for and now it?s too short to go someplace. I guess I should just be glad it?s no longer uneven. Natasha is a good stylist ? if you?re willing to be happy with the cut she gives you instead of getting the cut you want. DO NOT GO TO BYU-TI!!! And if you do ? do NOT GO TO LUCIANA!!!

Pros: $25 coupon to attract first timers

Cons: Bad hair cut, doesn't listen to client

I wanted to lighten my hair and had a pretty specific idea about what I wanted . The stylist listened carefully and then gave me exactly the color I wanted. Great! It's not cheap but I got the color I wanted and left happy.

Love this salon. I've been looking for a new hair "gal" and I found her. Natasha cut my hair and I love it. Pefect flips to my curly hair. Usually it has to "grow out" for me to like it... yet I walked out feeling great about my new cut. I got a treatment of olive oil and some other butters on my hair and it's hasn't felt this good in years. I'm totally thrilled with this salon. I'll be back!

I absolutely love Silvia at Byu-ti Salon. She is a master at coloring, cutting and styling my hair and being consistently wonderful at making me look beautiful. I will never go to another stylist again. Byu-ti is a very nice salon, clean lines, minimalist and relaxing. I have found my salon home.

The staff here is either aloof/rude/self-absorbed, or over-the-top fake nice. You know it's fake because one time someone gives you a huge, familiar smile and hello, but the next time she walks by you blankly, as if she's never seen you before. One time the shampoo is a relaxing, spa-like experience and the next time it's rushed and uncomfortable. I get the feeling they think hairdressers are interchangeable. No, if I ask for a certain person I don't want her old assistant just because she trained her. Also the prices are different every time which is anoying.

I work in HR and have never seen staff turnover like at this place. This video is like, 6 months old? I don't know but I remember the push for clients to write reviews after they put it up. At the time I thought it was clever but if you look on here it totally obvious now. Anyways half those people in their video don't even work there anymore. So I'm guessing they dont treat their employees nicely.

Most of these reviews are like, love it or hate it. I don't do either, but I am disappointed and will not be back. I need a higher rate of success. I have fired people for failing on 30% of their projects, and I am firing Byuti from doing my hair.

Byu-ti has wonderful service. The employees are really helpful and warm. I planned my wedding hair and make-up there for my entire bridal party and they were all extremely accommodating to my vision. Not to mention that I loved the haircut I received by Andi. She spent a lot of time discussing what I wanted and the end product was great!

I had a great experience at byu-ti salon. I am always skeptical to try a new salon, but I couldn't pass up the $25 off for your 1st visit coupon I saw on their website. The salon is so beautiful and everyone is so nice. The stylist gave me exactly the hair cut that I asked for -even better than I thought it would turn out-since I have really thick hair - plus she took her time to style it just right. I will definately go back and have recommended it to my friends too.

Byu-ti Salon is a relaxing experience with top of the line hairstylists that know the latest, the greatest and classic favorites (like a good blowdry). They use yummy smelling product and I always leave feeling a million bucks even if I paid a reasonable price for the moviestar hair. Zen out and get beautiful at Byu-ti. Andi is my girl (online at getadamnhaircut) and she is the best in L.A.

I feel really lucky I found this place, and would highly recommend it you anyone - and infact several of my friends have started going there after asking me " Your hair looks great where do you get it done?" Andi is my girl but I think everyone there has the skills to make you look great and hair healthy hair. Along side with their excellent treatments they are very aware of the importance of great customer service and do an excellent job at it - rewarding their clients with perks here and there and working. I've been particularly impressed with there understanding of my hair budget and working within that to get the results I want.
Andi is really good with color and has taken the time to get to know me and make suggestions about what she thinks would be good for my hair and style - and she's right on. Since going there I've gotten many compliments on my color (even when it's 4 monthes grown out), it's shine and overall health , as well as it's cut. Just go there, try it and you'll see and fell why I'm raving about it.

I am also surprised by the negative reviews, so I feel compelled to tell of my great experience there for over 6 months.......i go to see Sylvia, who has been more than accommodating and understanding of what I have in mind. I like a change every-so often and she has always given me great advice and known how to really work with my style. She is very professional and passionate and knows color in and out. My red hair was stunningly rich and vibrant, and when I went back to brunette it was the loveliest shade of chili-chocolate!
The rest of the staff there are also extremely friendly and professional, have always called back and reminded me of my appointments in a timely fashion. They also serve a yummy tea! And they have great incentives for their clients, including free conditioning treatments on certain days and discounts for recommendations to friends.
(And no, this is not a member of the staff there........I mean, seriously :-/, these people at byu-ti have more integrity than that!).
I highly recommend this salon, especially the lovely Mexicana: Sylvia!

I found this salon a few months ago after moving to Santa Monica. I was really nervous and in desperate need for some hair attention. I have been going to Dawn and she is fabulous! First I just went in for a cut, even though my color was due for an update and she was so positive and no pressure to fix my color. So of course I went back and she did a beautiful job on my color too! I never have to wait, she is always on time and she is an absolute doll. She takes her time and you do not leave her chair until your hair is up to her prefectionist standard. I would reccomend her to anyone!

I have never written a review, but my experience here was honestly so bad that I feel compelled to. I came to have my hair highlighted and cut at this salon after reading positive reviews here on citysearch. I have never had such a horrible experience. My sole request was that I wanted the highlights to be blonde with no warm tones or hints of red as I had experienced in the past. The woman (whose name I don't remember or I would say - she had red curly hair) said she knew exactly what I had in mind and could really understand the aura of my hair. She was crazy. After two hours (skipping a free moisturizing treatment that she claimed she was going to give me for free), the highlights were finished. She asked me not to look in the mirror until she was completely done. She literally wouldn't let me look in the mirror until she was blowdrying at which point I realized that my hair was completely orange. The cut was awful. She didn't cut off the split ends but cut some really short pieces throughout. As she was blowdrying my hair straight (which I paid for), she said "you don't like it to be perfect, do you?" well, yes, when I'm paying to get my hair blown out straight, I do like it to be perfect. In the end, I had a frizzy mop of orange hair on my head, which cost well over $300. I couldn't help but cry when I left the salon. Her coworkers asked me if I was okay with my hair because even they noticed how atrocious it was, but still noone offered a discount or any sort of apology. I would recommend that everyone steer clear of this horrible salon.

"Does anyone else find it odd that ALL of the rave reviews are from reviewers who haven't reviewed any other businesses? Does anyone also find it odd that all these rave reviews generally come in large # and succession after a not-so-hot review? I find this very curious." This is a quote from a previous review, and I couldn't agree with it more. It is vividly clear that this business writes its own rave reviews on this site, especially since everyone I know who has ever gone there will not be returning. We're not idiots and these types of business practices should not be allowed on this site! Anyways, I went to this salon recently with a friend of mine (before learning about its reputation through other friends), and I really could not have been more dissatisfied. I showed my stylist a picture of exactly how I wanted my hair cut, and she appeared to understand and agreed that it would be a great cut for me. However, when my cut began to reveal itself through the styling process, it became clear that she had taken too much length off the bottom and gave me uneven layers. I expressed my dissatisfaction, but she tried to reassure me that my cut was just like the picture and I just needed to practice styling it correctly. I left very disappointed after a cut that cost me over a $100. I actually went home and cried. The very next day I went to a different salon that only charges $60 for a cut and had them fix the mess I was left with. Please heed the real reviews on this site and avoid this place. Yes, the decor is cute and it's right next to Vanilla, but your self-esteem and wallet will suffer.

I have to say I'm surprised at reviews below. I truly had the best experience at Byu-ti that I've ever had at a salon. They were warm and welcoming from the start. I was greeted like never before with a whole package. My stylist was attentive and listened and gave me exactly what i wanted. And my shampoo at the sinks was delightful. I felt transported to another place (and I needed it after a long stressful week). I left Byu-ti feeling and looking better than I have in quite some time. They were professional and gracious. Job well done!

I too, was at the salon and didn't have a good experience.. First off, yes the girl below I saw her at the salon and I felt bad for her. The stylist really did not know what the heck she was doing. I had the same stylist. Luciana. She was nice, however I got the impression she didnt understand either. I told them right when I got there that I had to leave by 5:30 (I got there at 2:30 and literally it shouldnt take over 4 hours to highlight hair) and it took much longer then 4 hours and I missed my concert. Luciana had to correct her mistakes so she handed me to another lady who started doing my hair...and in the middle of doing my hair, she had another client in so she handed me to her assistant who finished the work..So, I had three stylist working on my hair...same thing as girl below, i got "$25.00" off my hair...which still was quite expensive...especially for the way it looked. Looked like a fantastic sams job to me...then I had them give me stickers so I wouldnt have to pay for parking, and the lady did not give me enough stickers and acted hesitant each time I asked her. So, I ended up paying $5.00 for parking. (due to their mistake in the first place)...I DONT recommend this salon. They all seem so amateur. The five stars listed below sounds so fake. I wonder if the employees did that!

My first visit to Byu-ti salon was yesterday, 3/29. Starting with the greeting from the sweet receptionist, she was very informative and offered me a delicious hot cup of tea. My hair color was done by Christina R. and it turned out beautiful. Christina has amazing hands. In addition to coloring, she gives an awesome head massage during the shampoo. I got my hair cut from Andi S. Andi asked me a bunch a questions about the type of cut I'm looking for, my daily hair regime and helped me decide on the perfect low maintenance cut for me. All said and done. Andi gave me a fantastic cut and I'll definitely return to this salon to see both Andi & Christina again.

It's a nice looking place and the people are very nice and respectful of your time, but I had a horribly
upsetting & disappointing color experience. The colorist did what she wanted, not what I wanted, no matter how many times I reiterated my desires to her and she assured me "she got it" . Apparently not. There were also 2 clients back for re-do's the day I was in, but frankly I don't have the confidence in this salon to ever let them color my hair again. They also give you $25 off your next service if you write them a good review on Citysearch, which makes it feel like they're paying for their good reviews, so to speak.

I walked into Byu-ti randomly over a year ago and have never looked back. The entire staff is so wonderful, always welcoming and warm. Tea is always offered, very polite staff. They email and call you in advance to confirm appointments. I have very long, fine hair that takes a minimum of 3 hours to cut and highlight, yet they have never had me wait while my stylist works on someone else ( I can't even tell you how many salons do that- how irritating!). Anyway, Dawn is my girl, she rocks, she'll change your life! I do both color and cut with her and she is AMAZING! She can glam you up like no one else! Just be sure you have something special to do when you leave, because you will look THAT good!

One day I checked my mail and I saw that I received a $25 coupon to try this salon as a first time customer. Just having moved to Santa Monica and in desperate need of a hair cut, I decided to go for it. Now I am not much of a "salon" girl myself. I had not cut my hair in almost a year! Shame on me, I know. So for me to actually love a salon experience and want to go back, well that's pretty huge. The staff there are all so incredibly nice and helpful. Upon arriving, I was greeted so nicely and given a nice welcome letter with more coupon discounts! I really liked that. The atmosphere is pretty hip and the robes are very nice too. Dawn was my stylist and she was fabulous. Energetic and fun with a touch of class. During our consultation, I felt confident that she knew exactly what I wanted and was not going to go over board in making my style too outrageous. I liked that she was so excited about her field of stylist and colorist. In my experience, if someone loves what they do for a living, they usually shine and she sure did. I also received a conditioning treatment that was fabulous. The products they use are really good as well. I left the salon feeling great. I definitely recommend this place!

LOVE! Love! Love! Thank God the westside is getting cool. It's taken some patience but it's finally happening. Byu-ti salon is perfect example (well, Vanilla Bake Shop is right next door too!). These guys are not JUST cool but very sweet and good to their customers. I'm a totally addicted. I've been in about four times in the past three weeks. Blowdry and micromist for me. They do these awesome treatments. I'm telling you, my hair has seriously NEVER been better. You know how it goes? Blonde. Blonde. Blonde. And then... damage. Damage. My hair was mess and these girls are getting me back on track. I think I saw it shine the other day. Haven't seen that in a while. Anyway, so happy! I have my first cut with Andi tomorrow and I'm so excited. Who's excited to get their haircut?? Not me usually. But now I am because I know I'll leave happy. Everybody listens here!
