I can't tell you how satisfied I am with this company. My initial web guy abandoned the project without completing the most important part that would enable me to accept payments. Joe came in and devoted himself to adding the payment module to my website at no additional charge. He responded promptly to all my email questions and got me up and running. I would recommend to anyone!

honest, transparent, willing to help, great for small merchants! I read a couple of negative reviews that referenced 1st National instead of Thompson Merchant, which I called Thompson to clarify. Joe informed me that Thompson Merchant Services started out as an agent for several other companies but as of a few years ago has been their own processor. I felt comfortable enough to give it a try, signed up for them and have been very happy with their willingness to alter pricing or change plans with no fuss in order to keep me happy. I'm very satisfied and happy with the company and am happy that I did the extra research!

Hello, it is unfortunate that this person wrote such a bad review but the fact is that Thompson Merchant Services hasn't represented First National since at least 2008. Thompson Merchant Services began offering our own processing services since then so any issues with 1st National are with them and we are NOT the same company. So as of 2008, when you sign up with Thompson Merchant Services - you're actually with us... If we cannot board a merchant due to issues like credit we will let them know ahead of time that we're passing them on to a high risk provider. But 1st National's billing practices has NEVER been the same as Thompson Merchant Services.

Note that Thompson Merchant Services is not actually a merchant services provider; they represent 1st National Processing of California. After they processed my application, Thompson didn't handle my account at all. When I chose a merchant service provider, I did do some research into the companies I was considering. I found no negative reviews of TouchPay or Thompson, but of course I realize now that that is not what I should have been searching for. If I never see a penny of my money, perhaps I can at least save someone else's.

I opened my account in March 2006, and the first few years that I used Touch-Pay I was very satisfied and eagerly recommended it to colleagues. Unfortunately, after a few years, my monthly fee more than doubled without warning. When I called customer service, I was told I was being charged a monthly fee and a statement fee. As I am a seasonal user, I asked to discontinue the statements, but was not told that this would mean I would receive NO information at all - no announcements, no information about changes to the contract or PCI compliance. Changes to fees or to the terms of a contract should be expressed, in writing, to customers, regardless of whether they are willing to pay you for the information!

Last year, I discovered my fee had increased dramatically, totaling almost $440 for 8 months, a $300 overage. I was told these were PCI compliance fees I was being charged because my account was not compliant and that no refund would be possible. I am not unfamiliar with PCI compliance. In fact, at a previous job, I was responsible for meeting PCI requirements. (It's just a questionnaire; if you already practice good security, it's not hard.) However, it is not possible to meet standards you are not informed about! I believe this is intentional. Each time I have spoken to a representative, they have been unhelpful, stonewalling and reading from a script, which leads me to believe they'd heard the same complaint many times over.

I was later told by customer service that if I wish to cancel my merchant account I must inform them in writing, and was given an address, so I drafted and mailed a letter. This was misinformation; there is a specific form they require to be faxed, to a specific number.

Finally I was able to close the account, my last fee of $21.99 withdrawn May 3 (this is $5 higher than normal, for some reason.) However, my bank statement shows a $129 PCI compliance fee withdrawn on June 28! I was essentially told they bill retroactively for the entire previous year (what??) and that no supervisor was available to speak with me but that she could request a supervisor call me back. I asked what time their office closes, and returned the call myself this evening as I did not expect to hear from them. I spoke to a supervisor, who flatly refused to consider a refund.

1st National Processing is also sometimes known as 1st National Merchant Services. My records show an address in Calabasas, but it seems they've relocated to 6399 Wilshire Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90048. If you are planning to open a merchant account, ask who will REALLY be processing your transactions, and research that.
