Same bad experience here

by Aditya K.

They came in and counted the number of ducts and switched on the furnace. Same comment of whether I can smell the dirty dust coming out. Said air flow is low and will check the furnace, meanwhile I noticed that the other guy put the negative pressure machine on one of the vents and with a brush cleaning the top of other vents. Before I confirmed the order, I asked the office if every vent will be opened and cleaned through, he said yes. Obviously I did not expect them to just open the went and brush the edge of the vent. When I called the office and asked them how this is agitating every vent and cleaning the duct coming to the vents, he said if we agitate then it might spoil the ducts. He asked me to give the phone to the guys working and I gave it to him, and he talked for a minute and cut down the phone. After this they just packed up and left without speaking a word, I had to assume that they decided to leave. I wish I did a google search before I called these guys.

More of the same...

by diane m.

Got a coupon to get my ducts cleaned for $75, like the other reviews the high pressure salesman (Stephen) NEVER let up!! He said we needed the furnace replaced ($3000-$5000), we said "no" then it went to getting the furnace cleaned. It was indeed dirty and we went from $500 to $300 and paid too much. They opened the furnace and cleaned it with a shop vac. I should have done more research as well. The Hispanic gentlemen doing the work was very nice and a hard worker. The negative pressure machine was hooked up to one vent, other vents were opened and they used a shop vac to get some dust out. Here's the worse part, when it was all said and done, without telling or asking us, they sprayed some kind of "sanitizer" through all the vents...oh my god..the smell is like a very cheap car freshener, I had an allergic reaction to it and still can't the smell out of my house. When I called them to complain about this they said "sorry open your windows." They also said this was part of the service, however my neighbors had the EXACT same service from them and did not get the stinky smelling sanitizer....or whatever it is, just smells toxic to me.Pass on this company and really so your research.

Not good at all

by A. R.

I should have done more research before hiring them. If I had, I would have passed. My experience was the same as some of the others. The lead gentleman was very nice, but kept me occupied with trying to upgrade just the cleaning of the ducts I wanted. One man with a shop vac was making his way through my house opening vents and supposedly cleaning them. When he came downstairs I went up and found that they had missed half of the ducts as the were still covered by furniture that could only be moved by two people. They told me they cleaned my dryer vent, but when my husband got home and pulled the vent tube off, there was still tons of lint and debris sitting right on the surface. I called them back and they will be coming out to redo my dryer vent only.

I also had the same rhetoric about needing my whole unit cleaned and it started off around $650 and as I kept declining the price kept dropping till just before they left, the gentleman told me they would do it for $295 if I said yes now. If not, then the price would go back up to $650. Very unprofessional.

I would not recommend them. Find a more reputable company and do not be fooled by coupons or low prices. I should have done research and also stuck to the adage... you get what you pay for!

Thank you letter for American Fresh Ducts

by Linda E.

Dear AFD,

I am very pleased with a job perfectly done. the house smells fresh, the amounts of dust used to accumulate on my furniture disappeared as if they where never there, and as you promised me, I do feel that the allergies I used to suffer of has almost completely vanished and for that I thank you the most!

Thank you for the professional service and the attention you pay to every little detail, I will recommend you wherever I go.

Best regards
Linda E

Negative star rating, if that was an option

by Anonymous

I wish I found this site before the duct commandos came to our home I felt ambushed, ripped off, lied to and have NEVER experienced such pressure and manipulation. There was no estimate, the price kept changing, the ducts were NOT cleaned, just shop vac'd at the opening by the guys scurrying around my house while the salesman kept interrupting my attempts to do a web search on duct cleaning. The $525 "cleaning" of my heating unit was worth $79 according to my heating contractor, if it was even done right. At the end of the hour, I just wanted them gone. Isn't there a law against this kind of bait and switch advertising? Read the EPA report available on line before you use any duct service. Get an estimate in writing before any work is done.

PROS: The owner of the company has bent over backwards to rectify the damage done and has graciously returned our check, told to "pay what it was worth" and suspended the offending employee. His company's reputation being worth more than the
money.

CONS: It was an exhausting experience overall. Clean your ducts if you like, but be vigilant!

Frightening and I didn't get what I paid for!

by tiki_t

The moment that I opened the door, the foreman pushed his way in with a high pressure sales pitch while his workers scurried past me and around my house. From a home security standpoint this is frightening to have three strangers with full access to your house and not be able to supervise them because someone is distracting you with a high pressure sales pitch! I offered to show them where the vents were but they wouldn't let me. I figured out why.

The negative pressure unit was only used on one vent (not even an intake) and a shop vacuum on the rest of the vents in the house.

In retrospect, I shouldn't have paid them because they didn't do what they claimed but at the time, the foreman was so high pressure that I just wanted them out of my house.

They gave me an outrageous quote to clean my furnace and kept changing the price the more I said no. They also would not put their quote in writing and they told me when they walked out the door, their quote rate would go up. I told them to leave.

The next day I had an independent heating and cooling company come out to take a look at my furnace after all the claims that this company made. The looked at my duct work and vents and told me that they were still filthy and that I got ripped off.

Pros: None! Do not hire these people!

Cons: Did not do what they claim to do, high pressure sales
