Message from La Boulange de Hayes

In the heart of Hayes Valley, hang out in the sun-filled cafe while sipping an organic coffee and handmade chocolate croissant. Grab lunch on the go or sit down and enjoy brunch all day, as well as hearty soups, salads and open face sandwiches. Run in for an organic baguette on your way home!

A hand-written chalkboard near the entryway marks the daily specials: something like French onion soup and homemade granola with yogurt. Inside, among rustic wooden tables, diners can choose from open-faced sandwiches made to order, brunch items or baked goods like chocolate croissants, vegetable quiches and fruit tarts from a large glass display case. In addition to edibles, the very traditional French boulangerie serves up coffee and espresso drinks as well.

Key Points

  • French Pastries & Desserts
  • Organic coffee & espresso
  • Brunch, sandwiches & salads

The Inside Scoop

  1. Know Before You Go - Take a little extra time on a sleepy Sunday morning and order your latte "for here"--it'll arrive in an adorable French gingham-printed bowl.
  2. The Extras - The free condiment bar here goes way beyond cream, sugar and the occasional salt packet: look for jars brimming with jam, butter, Nutella, pickles, olives and more.

Nice Little Neighborhood bakery

by Danielle S. | top100 Top100 | Rank: 10

The La Boulange is a wonderful little slice of haven. The location is easy to get to and very charming and inviting. You will want to stay and sip coffee while eating a chocolate dipped croissant.

Cute Cafe in trendy Hayes Valley

by Brandon K. | insider_guru Insider Guru | Rank: 1,195

This place has a prime corner location in Hayes Valley. It really adds to the neighborhood to have a cool Parisian style cafe.

I really like their open-faced sandwiches, especially with greens - it's a pretty close experience to actually getting say a Croque Madame in Paris.

It always seems to be pretty busy but never too much so.
