I recently traveled to South Carolina to visit a very dear friend of mine. When I arrived she told me we were going to do some volunteer work at an animal shelter. The first thought I had was fun, not. I'm the kind of person who will not go into pet stores just because it breaks my heart to see animals in cages and I don't care for the smell. As we arrived at the shelter my friend told me to look out for the goats, apparently they love to climb on your car if you park in the wrong place. As I climbed out of the car I was greeted with a headbutt to the shin by Cairo and Morocco. The wonderful car climbing goats. My first instinct was to get back in the car and go to the beach instead, but my dear friend ushered me into the bird house and all my feelings changed because of a fat little prairie dog named Bambi. She was sooo cute and cuddly I wanted to bring her home with me. What is being done at SC C.A.R.E.S. is something just short of a miracle. By the time that I left that night I was tired. I do not know if I have ever worked a day like this in my life (and I work 2 jobs). Also the whole place has a healing feel to it. Maybe its because some of the animals are recovering from injury or maybe its just because a couple of people just wanted to make a difference. I recommend this place to everybody who wants to make a difference. I doesn't matter how you do it. You can make a variety of donations. I can be your time or your money because both are precious to those that live on site to make sure that all the animals have the best possible care. Now you should go out there if only to find your own favorite creature like I did.

I highly recommend a visit to SC-CARES! The sanctuary is now home to 100+ animals including a Llama, two horses, a tortoise, and many other exotic animals. No visit to the Grand Stand is complete without a visit to the sanctuary!

SC CARES is totally awesome. There are over 70 wildlife and exotic animals that were abused or unwanted. They are now rehabilitated and cared for by Cindy Hendrick & Skip Yaeger. There compassion for animals is unbelievable. All finances are taken care of totally by donations. I highly recommend a visit to SC CARES.
