Cute French bistro in the heart of Campbell. I work around the corner from here so love to stop by for lunch or pick up some dinner to-go. I'm a big fan of the hangar steak! Reservations accepted.

French-born Executive Chef Dominique and his American wife have created a gem in Downtown Campbell. Dishes that you will find in a Paris bistro (escargot anyone?) are served up by a professional and friendly staff in a warm and inviting space that is intimate enough for romance but also open and casual for friends and family.

The complimentary taste from the kitchen of a light opener with julienned carrots and a mustard vinaigrette dressing immediately alerts you that this is more than a casual neighborhood hangout.

The hanger steak and fries are the closest I've had to steak frites in Paris (and I've had the best at the original L'Entrecote). The steak is tender and perfectly seasoned with just the right amount of seared goodness. The thin-cut fries are light, salted just right, and well-balanced between a crispy exterior and soft interior with satifying potato flavor.

The classic French onion soup is another stand-out here. The seasoning is adjusted just right, steering clear of the "too salty" crime that too many restaurants commit. The cheese top has great flavor, is melted just enough, The broth delivers with depth and plenty of onion. The bread slice has good texture. Overall, Twist's version will have you re-discovering the allure of this ubiquitous starter.

For the more adventurous palate, definitely give the escargot a shot. Chef Dominique also serves up 2-3 "comfort food" dishes each month reminiscent of the French countryside. Sweetbreads and other tasty morsels not often found in American French restaurants have been known to grace the menu as specials.

For dessert, look no further than the chocolate mousse. Dark, rich, smooth, creamy, full of cocoa flavor. Simply close your eyes and slowly savor...

For lunch during the week and brunch on the weekends, don't forget the adjacent Twist Cafe, with its assortment of sandwiches (the Parisien on baguette is a good first-time choice), salads, soups, and the same chocolate mousse.

The best part of this authentic Parisien experience? Entrees priced at less than $20 so you can have a wonderful meal, pretend the Eiffel Tower is but around the corner, and not break the bank doing it.
