The Bayou in Norman, Oklahoma creates a fun and comfortable environment where listening to music and eating delicious food is a charming combination. The two-story alcove located across the street from the University of Oklahoma invites a jazz band to play each Thursday night, giving the restaurant a sophisticated but casual atmosphere. I especially appreciate their support of talented local bands, and the music is never overbearing or impeding to the eating experience.

The surroundings at The Bayou immediately stole my attention upon walking in the cozy front entrance. The lighting is dim, but resplendent enough to illuminate the interesting artwork and lively colors invading the high walls. The aesthetic quality of the bar and grill is accompanies by practical qualities a loyal sports fan would understand, as a balcony wraps around a foyer with flat-screen televisions broadcasting various ball games. There is something at The Bayou for anyone from a loner enjoying a peaceful jazz-filled evening, to a sports fan sharing beers with fellow Sooner football devotees. Falling somewhere in the middle, I appreciated the opportunity The Bayou offers to be in an aesthetically pleasing environment with tasty and fairly priced food.

Although The Bayou offers a formidably fetching environment, the food at the small, local restaurant is its most commendable attribute. The various pastas, sandwiches, and other delectable entrees have something for everyone because there is a wide selection making it possible for every diet to be met. I thoroughly enjoyed the spinach dip that came alongside crackers with my pasta because the taste was surprisingly compatible and added zest to the meal.

If there was one aspect of The Bayou I would alter, it would be expanding the alcoholic beverage choices. A friend asked for three or four wines on the menu only to be told they were not in stock indefinitely. The choices on the thin menu were originally meager, but the fact that many of the choices were not available hindered my experience there. However, the service was attentive and efficient, and the options remaining, such as their beer, were satisfying.

I would recommend The Bayou to anyone. Families might be hesitant to visit The Bayou because it has a bar, but the counter that serves drinks is only on the second story. The downstairs area offers a perfect, wholesome environment in which families can catch up on each others?? business in a peaceful, yet entertaining atmosphere.
