If you are considering seeing Dr. Marina Richards, do it! I could not be happier with her. I have lived in NYC for 10 years and have seen numerous doctors - Dr. Richards is the best by far. In September 2012, I had some medical issues that left me with extreme fatigue. My previous doctor found no cause for my symptoms, and told me to "deal with it." I tried, but my symptoms persisted, to the point I could not even get out of bed.

Thank goodness I found Dr. Richards. During my first visit, she took the time to get to know me and my medical history. She diagnosed my problem right away, and after following her suggested course of action, I feel better than I have in years. It gives me great comfort to know I have a doctor who is so capable.

Her staff is also a pleasure to interact with. Dr. Richards runs on time and is patient, kind, and personable. I could not recommend her more highly. I have yet to take advantage of her acupuncture services, but I like knowing I can see her for that should I ever need it. She has also referred me to some outstanding specialists. I feel very well cared for by Dr. Richards.

Dr. Richards is absolutely amazing -the best combination of eastern and western medicine. I went to her initially for vertigo and learned that she could help me with everything. She has helped me through incredibly stressful times through accupuncture, herbs and general advice. She is also not afraid to offer up a real prescription for meds from the pharmacy as well - if needed. But she attempts to resolve things holistically first. She is everything you would want in a doctor: compassionate, knowledgeable, up to date and current with research and kind and caring. I cannot say enough about how helpful and effective she is. You would be surprised by the things she offers up regarding weight loss, sleeplessness and stress. She has suggestions for any ailment and has helped me though incredibly stressful times through the accupuncture and more. Anyone would be lucky to have her as their doctor.

I am very lucky to have Dr. Richards as my primary care doctor. Last December Dr. Richards diagnosed me with a heart condition that was life threatening. It would require open heart surgery, and time was of the essence. She referred me to her colleagues at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital. Dr. Yoshifumi Naka, a heart surgeon who ranks as one of the best in the country, performed the operation. I am alive and well and just celebrated my 68th birthday.

I am getting holistic treatments from Dr. Richards too. Her herbal supplements, acupuncture and advice on diet and exercise have been an enormous help with my particular problems of staying young. Dr Richards knowledge of holistic medicine adds to my confidence in her prognoses and treatments, because she understands the world of therapies and remedies in its entirety. It is reassuring for me to know that my medical doctor, so knowledgeable in holistic medicine, can do a lot more for me than just "pushing a pill."
Dr. Richards sees my mind and body as one, because her vision extends far beyond that of traditional medicine.

In the three years that I have been seeing Dr RIchards regularly, my health has visibly improved. Initially, I saw her for acupuncture to treat depression and anxiety; through her counsel, I was able to find better mental health treatment, as well as more appropriate (and lowered) dosages of medication. My symptoms have been non-existent for the past two years thanks to Dr Richards' plan of care and insight; her treatments have balanced my system, so that both depression and anxiety are under control, my sleep is regulated, and my energy is stable.

When my partner and I decided to start a family, Dr Richards' acupuncture treatments, as well as her nutritional and lifestyle suggestions, made it easy for me to get pregnant. Thanks to her, at 42, I did not need to go the IVF route, which was a great relief to me. She did refer me to a great obstetrician at Columbia. And thanks to her treatments, this has been a calm and healthy pregnancy.

In the course of treatment, I also decided to have Dr RIchards become my primary care physician. She is compassionate, efficient, and smart in all of her diagnoses. When I ask her questions, or ask her about non-conventional treatments (meditation, yoga, etc) she is always accepting, and researches her answers with great care. I have referred three friends to her over the years, all of whom have been deeply satisfied with her work.

I feel extremely lucky to have such a wise, intelligent caregiver who understands my body and mind so well, and who helps me to maintain my health. It has made a huge difference in my quality of life to have a doctor who actually knows and cares about me. I even decided stayed on my current insurance plan so that I can see Dr Richards with ease. This is not a doctor you want to lose hold of! Thank you, Dr R.

I was lucky to find Dr. Richards while looking for a doctor practicing acupuncture and that accepted my health insurance plan. While I initially came to her for acupuncture treatment to regulate my period and to boost fertility, I was so pleased with Dr. Richards caring and knowledgeable manner that both I and my husband started seeing her as a primary physician.

Dr. Richards takes time to listen and respond to her patients?? concerns, and never rushes you?? a pleasant change from many of the nyc doctors that I had seen in the past. She has treated me to regulate my period and to boost fertility, and I had a son this May without any trouble to conceive. She has also treated me with success for seasonal allergies, and knee pain. She treated my husband for foot spurs with great success ?? he can walk without pain again, and for hay fever. It is worth to mention that he had seen several doctors on and off for years and was rather frustrated with both of these conditions before coming to Dr. Richards.

We are both happy and grateful to have found her and to have her as our primary physician. I recommend her highly.

Dr. Richards is absolutely terrific. I've been seeing her for acupuncture on a semi-regular basis for a couple years now. I started seeing her because I had shin splints from running and nothing was helping. After just a month or two of weekly acupuncture visits, my leg was so much better and I was able to run again--and complete my first marathon. I'd also like to mention that I never have to wait long in the waiting room--a rare occurrence in New York City. She's also a terrific physician, and I see her for physicals.

My wife and I first went to doctor Richards for accupuncture as my shoulders had been knotted for almost 2 years and nothing had worked to relieve the pain including physical therapy and massage therapy. After several sessions my shoulders were completed healed and I've been pain free for over a year now.

My wife went to doctor Richards several months ago for a regular yearly accupuncture session. Even though my wife didn't complain of any symptoms or problems doctor Richards noticed that her physical appearance had changed(her face had gotten rounder) so she started asking questions and as the result of her proactive caring approach my wife was shortly thereafter diagnosed with a rare disease called Cushing's which is life threatening if not discovered/treated. After surgery my wife is now on the road to a full recovery and without the skillful diagnosis from doctor Richards she would likely still be undiagnosed to this day.

When I first went to Dr. Richards, I could walk only a few blocks due to my fibromyalgia pain. With her help through acupuncture, I can now walk miles completely pain free. She is such a kind, patient doctor that I made her my internist as well. In addition to being a great doctor, she is VERY accessible (even responding to an e-mail request on Christmas Day). She's simply the best and I happily recommend her to all of my friends.

I found Dr. Richards in the fall of '07 on my health insurance company's website, desperate for a good doctor. My allergies, anxiety, and pain from fibromyalgia were acute. I really lucked out! Dr. Richards has been my primary care physician and has treated me for PTSD, allergies, digestive issues, fatigue and insomnia related to fibromyalgia, and my latest issue, plantar fasciitis. She has referred me to her excellent colleagues at Columbia-Presbyterian: a rheumatologist, a gynecologist, optometrist, psychiatrist, and podiatrist--all people, like Dr. Richards, who had TIME-- time to listen to me and assess my symptoms with patience, kindness and skillfulness. (Except the podiatrist, but apparently I went to the wrong one in the office she sent me to!) This is very rare these days amongst medical professionals. She, like all humans, is imperfect, and can seem a tad abrasive in her insistence that we take better care of ourselves (we had a little battle over my resistance to take meds for PTSD) but it is because she cares deeply about the health of her patients. I believe that Dr. Richards respects my body's wisdom, my perceptions of my symptoms, and she takes them into account when she applies her vast knowledge of Western medicine with her valuable understanding of Chinese medicine and acupuncture. So, while I would love to be completely cured of my fibromyalgia, allergies, and PTSD, it's not possible today. Luckily, I'm in great hands for the treatment of my symptoms which have decreased significantly. (Incidentally, I did take paxil for about 10 months for PTSD and then stabilized. I've been off it for a while now, doing great!)

She allows patients to contact her via email, and she always responds within 24 hours. She even emailed me to remind me to schedule a meeting with her. Finding a doctor like Dr. Richards is rare. We hope she will be our doctor for the long haul. And in response to the patient that didn't want to be vaccinated. I don't exactly understand why you are blaming your fear of vaccination on Dr. Richards. She did the right thing by advising you that it is in your best interest to get vaccinated.

Pros: Great location.

.

Upon the discovery that I had not been vaccinated for Hepatitus A or B, Dr. Richards suggested that I receive said vaccines as soon as possible. I informed her that I had no interest in receiving any vaccinations beyond what had been necessary to attend college. She said that it was simply a matter of hygiene but if I preferred to be "unhygienic" that was entirely up to me. She then went on to call me prejudiced, distrustful and said that she could understand how any "uneducated person who knew absolutely nothing about anything" would come to the conclusion that vaccines were dangerous.

Btw, her reasoning for the necessity of these vaccines? Something about the possibility of eating bad sushi and getting sick. Apparently avoidable if vaccinated. I went on to ask what the probability of something like that occuring would be and she said, "Well, at your age, probably very small, but at 60 years old you'll definitely have a chance of this happening." I am 25 years old folks. I understand that she is very well-qualified, which was why I wanted to meet with her, but I really just walked out of there feeling not only extremely insulted but also extremely disappointed. I am currently looking for another doctor. Worst experience I have ever had, and I grew up in the Bronx, NY so that says a lot.

She is a great doctor, very knowledgeable and personable. Her acupuncture sessions helped me with IBS and regulated my periods. It also helped me to get pregnant! In addition to that, I felt so relaxed after each acupuncture session, as if I went to a spa:) But her help goes beyond the acupuncture. She gave me lots of good tips on how to improve my digestion, release stress and muscle tension, and improve my general health and well being. I would recommend her to all my friends.

I went to Dr. Richards with a herniated disc, sciatica and arthritis in my neck. I wanted to try everything before I looked into surgery and I'm glad I did. Within 8 visits, my neck pain/swelling had stopped and has not really come back . My back is much better as well. I have so much confidence in her ability. She is straightforward with you from the very beginning on what the process is of acupuncture, as well as what to expect. She will also give you an approximate timeline of when you should start to see/notice results. If by that time you do not notice positive results, she will most likely recommend another form of treatment, which may not be acupuncture. She also helped me with my diet, as I have battled acid reflux in the past. By changing my diet, I have noticed a huge improvement in my reflux. I still get it occasionally and have to use medication, but overall it is so much better. I would not hesitate to recommend Dr. Richards to my family, friends or co-workers. Besides being fabulous at her craft, she has a wonderful demeanor and is relaxing to be around.

I drive nearly 2 hrours total to see Dr Richards and pay $25 in parking - but it is really worth it - in 2 sessions my lower back pain is gone and now she is working on whole body changes like Yoga, diet, etc.
