Trattoria Toscana is the latest evolution of Franco Fazzuoli, the nationally recognized chef who previously founded Il Ponte Vecchio, Zinno in Greenwich Village, and Cent'Anni for which he and his partner Raimondo Abreu received national acclaim. Most recently Franco was preparing great dishes at Franco's Italian Trattoria in Scottsdale which he operated for the last fourteen years. Franco and Raimondo have returned to New York and brought their amazing cuisine with them, using only the freshest and most authentic ingredients to create outstanding menu items at a terrific value. The spacious dining room provides a casually elegant atmosphere perfect for a lunch meeting, or a relaxing dining experience. The restaurant delivers a casual, comfortable and festive environment to be enjoyed by friends and families alike.

Perfect Meal

by ValerieandPaul

I was introduced to Trattoria Toscana by a dear friend when a long-time favorite restaurant had closed. Oh my goodness, we have to find a new one . . . well, this became the one! What delicious food for everyone and portions that are just right Depending on where you sit, the atmosphere is intimate to also being appropriate for groups and in the warm weather, sitting next to the large open windows and looking out is perfect. There is also a solo guitarist who plays on a weekly basis during the summer just outside of the restaurant so it creates a nice background, yet is unobtrusive. The staff is very warm and witty, never sacrificing professionalism. It is difficult to recommend a particular dish because they are each so specific and tasty but I am definitely looking forward to our next meal there. Close to various subway lines is also key. It's like coming home!

Pros: Food, Service, Atmosphere, Location

Cons: None so far

Greenwhich Village's Finest!

by agooodguy

I have lived in Greenwich Village most of my life. And Trattoria Toscana has fast become the neighborhood's culinary crown jewel! The dishes are authentically Italian and uniquely prepared. The ingredients are always fresh. The service is personable and friendly. You never feel rushed. The wine list is superb. And both the everyday menu and daily specials are varied enough to accommodate most any budget. If you had to dine at only one restaurant in downtown Manhattan, this would be the one to choose.

Pros: Authentic Italian cuisine, great service and wine list

Cons: None

Wonderful way to spend an evening!

by ac2006

We were there last night (April 16 '09), a party of 12. I had made a reservation beforehand and they had everything ready. We were promptly seated and offered drinks, antipasti.

The waiting staff were courteous and very helpful.

The best part was that despite being a huge group, we were able to talk all through the evening and didn't feel rushed at any point.

They even allowed us to bring a cake from outside to celebrate our friend's birthday and brought it out with a candle and everyone in the restaurant wished our friend!

I loved everything about this quaint place, it was charming, romantic and a fun place to go for dinner- I am definitely going back!

Pros: Beautiful ambience, great food and nice selection of wine

Cons: None!

Best old world atmosphere and food!!!

by wanbleekola

When I go in an Italian restaurant I expect, beside a hearty meal, to feel like home.
And when the host, by the name of Franco, came toward me and almost hugged me like I was a long lost friend, honestly, he made my day.
The setting of this little trattoria resemble those restaurant of the old Europe that are always not easy to find but worthed the trip.
And Frnco did not let me down on the food: a luscios antipasto freddo came to share, with fresh burrata, prosciutto, roasted peppers and seafood salad. Ask for fried zuccchini too and tried them the way Franco suggest: with a touch of real balsamic: to die for!!
For main course we had a Arista, a thick as a brick cut of pork loin on the bone, so tender and juicy, and a florentine steak good to feed a family of four. I had steaks in steakhouses but you have to try theirs!
We pared the meal with a fantastic Chianti riserva villa Parri.
The experience was unbelivable and I vowed to go back as soon as possible.
Grazie Franco!!

amazing italian food for a great price!!!!

by alexander2278

A friend of mine recommended me this restaurant and the only thing I can say is that he knew what he was talking about!!. I had an event to share with some relatives and all were impressed with the service, fantastic food and especially the price!!. From the Antipastos, the variety of pastas an the plenty selection of entries they offer, we left very satisfied. It's good to know that there are still places like this in New York where you can enjoy authentic italian food without breaking our budget. Tratoria Toscana made us feel like part of Franco's family, its owner, that's why certainly will repeat this lovely and authentic italian experience...
Congratulations Franco, and all the best for you, your staff and you cozy restaurant!!!!

Pros: Service, price, ambience, great food

delicious reasonably-priced food, family atmosphere.

by bertp713

The second that I walked in to Trattoria Toscana I was greeted by the owner, Franco Fazzuoli, and his staff. Not only is the Tuscan food first class, but the customer service is amazing! From the appetizers to the desserts, my taste buds were in heaven! The antipasto with 5 different tastings from fresh seafood salad to the burrata cheese was excellent. The pastas, all homemade, were fresh, light, and very flavorful (my favorite is strozzapretti). The entrees including the arista di maile(roast loin of pork) left me cleaning the plate with the delicious bread. The desserts were homemade from Franco's mother's recipe.

This friendly and reasonably priced Village restaurant is DEFINITELY worth a trip. The atmosphere always makes you feel like you are one of the family and the service is SUPERB!!!!!

Exquisite, refined Italian cuisine

by jthfromaz

What a beautiful dinner! I used to go to the Franco's restaurants when he was in Scottsdale AZ and I was so disappointed when he moved back to New York. The service was very attentive, the food unparalleled. Whenever I travel to the east coast I will always make Trattoria Toscana a destination to stop by and have a truly world class Italian meal.

Pros: Highest quality food prepared by the best chef

Unparalleled service and cuisine.

by mariajh40

Personal hospitality was superior, as the owner himself delivered dinner items to our table.
They held our table far past closing time and stayed until we completed dining. We had appetizer and dinner items which we had not ever tasted previously. All were fabulous. The location with the fold-out window to Carmine Street completed the culinary experience.

LIVED UP TO THE REVIEWS

by martingiles

My wife and I tried Trattoria Toscana Friday night based on the reviews in Citysearch, and we were not disappointed. From the moment we arrived we were treated like old friends, and the experience just got better throughtout the meal. The service was attentive and friendly, while the food was excellent. We started with the a warm antipasto that was just right and then had different pasta dishes for our entree: homemade pasta with proscuitto, herbs and cream for her, and pappardelle with chicken, mushrooms and cream for me. Both dishes were well prepared and very tasty. We had the ice cream cake for dessert which was alittle different than expected but just great. Franco, the owner and original chef can be very proud of this restaurant and his staff. They deserve the praise they get in all the reviews and my wife and I agreed that we will be coming back here more than once to try several of the other choices on the menu!

Pros: EVERYTHING

Cons: NOTHING

Great Old School Joint

by JerseyTomatoe

What a great place. The food is simple and fresh, and lovely to taste. If you are looking for authenticity, the food is almost as welcoming as the service. What wonderful people. The wait staff shares the pride of the owner of the restaurant, making the dining experience there something akin to visiting an Italian relative's home. They truly measure their success on the enjoyment of their customers. I went first as a couple and then again with a large group, and both times were a joyful experience. They make dishes that carry on a tradition of regional Italian cuisine - not just the typical Italian fare. When I can't make it home to my Grandma's house, this is the next best thing.

Pros: Try the desserts...all of them

Cons: hmmmm...none I can think of

Can't wait to go back

by paris78

On a trip to New York we had a mouth watering dinner here. In fact it was by far the best meal we had this trip. Everything that Steve the chef prepared for us was delicious, but the tripes are out of this world ! I've been craving them ever since we were there and can't wait to go back, by the way I don't normally eat tripes. Any chef that can do what he can do with tripes derserves 5 Stars!

The Return of a genius

by bstar88

Franco Fazzuoli is now back in the city after all these years. He had three very succesful toscan italian restaurants in the 70's and 80's named Zeno's, Chiantani, and Ponte Veccio. Now he had trattoria toscana on Carmine street, and it is so wonderful to be able to eat his wonderful cusine again. There is not one bad thing on the menu, the pastas, the entree's, the appetizers, everything is so fresh and seasoned to perfection. The service is great and Franco is a true italian delight himself. I highly recommend this restaurant for any occasion or any night of the week.

Excellent Meal like a 5 star restaurant, great wine selection

by Maureenct

Had a reservation before the theatre and was promptly seated. Would highly recommend reservations before theatre, the restaurant was full. Our waiter MJ was wonderful, great suggestions for wine and specials. Had veal martini, out of this world and a seafood special with homemade basil pasta. Presentation was like a 5 star restaurant. The food was excellent and the price was extremely reasonable. The dessert tray looked great but we were to full to have dessert. Ended our meal with cappuccino.I highly recommend this restaurant for your next dinner. Cannot wait to go back.

Pros: Excellent food and presentation and wine selection, great service (MJ), make resvervations

Cons: a bit nosiy but did not detract from meal in any way

Great Food in the Village

by sully45

I went there for late dinner around 10 pm Sat Night before meeting friends for drinks in the village and was thrilled with the food and the price (considering i was preparing to drop some money on a night out after that). The food was great and the owner was walking around talking with the tables. The place is a nice break for the insanity of Bleecker Street, especially if you plan on being part of it after you eat.

Pros: Food, Price, Location, Service

Cons: none

Best "wine & dine" without braking your pockets.

by anny

This resturant is perfect for people who are in need of the "wine and dine" with great service catering your food craving without braking your pockets. Dim lights, romantic traditional Italian bistro environment that creates sophistication and warmth, makes me believe no wonder why I proposed to my girl friend.

heaven in the village

by elcapitan777

This is the best restaurant , I have been to in awhile. The food is outstanding, the service extraordinary and the prices easy to swallow and worth every penny. If you are looking for a romantic place to take that special someone then this is the place.

I recommend starting with the anti pasta, ceaser salad with\amazingly fresh anchovies. Then try the calami and shrimp appertizer. Its not on the menu but they will make it up for you. After you second glass of wine, its time for the main course... I went for the veal...omg...This place is a piece of heaven in the village.

I highly recommend it.

Pros: Great food , service and ambiance.

Fresh & Precise Italian

by goldpalate

OK-It's rustic but new/old with the return of Chef and partner Fazzuoli along with Chef Abreu -These supremly gifted Chefs prepare modern/classic Italian dishes that shine with fresh produce, veal and fresher fish-We loved the Pistaccioso Salmon and the Velvet Lemon Sole-Service!!-I counted five in the kitchen along with two waiters and a bar keep-All for 10 tables!! This means that this Trattoria begs you to order off-the menue and you will have your dish prepared and presented properly. We called with a party of ten-that grew to fifteen-After five courses, some with multiple items-like the Three Pastas-We all sang Italian street songs and finally paid $45/person! One must linger here! Great food-Caring Italian family service and Fresh-Fresh-Fresh!! This is Italiano Dinning at it.s most comforting!

Pros: Fresh and Precise -Truly Italiano!

Cons: None

Wow - A Tuscan Gem!

by katherinela

If you want authentic, mouth-watering cuisine, affordable prices, and a host and chefs that will truly take care of you, then I highly recommend Trattoria Toscana (formerly Oreste). My friends and I visited the restaurant after hearing Franco Fazzuoli (formerly of NYC's C'entanni, Zinno's, and Franco's Italian Caffe in AZ) had returned to NY. We loved the space on Carmine Street which allows for pre-dinner drinks at the bar or drinks and appetizers at outside tables for people watching. The ambiance inside is like being in Tuscany as one friend put it. A few of our favorites were the special appetizer plate which includes burrata, prosciutto with figs, filet mignon with a type of green sauce, sliced tomato with marinated white anchioves, and seafood salad and the incredible Porterhouse steak which two people shared because of the portion size. Another friend loved the Alaskan King Salmon toppped with pistachio nuts. I had the traditional chicken and sausage with peppers and mushrooms in a balsamic sauce -- to die for! The wine list includes some beautiful Italian and California wines. I think what my friends and I enjoyed most about this restaurant was that the owners/chefs are there to nurture and feed the patrons not to feed their egos which we've experienced so much in NYC and LA. Trattoria Toscana is the real deal.

Pros: Authentic cuisine, Great Host and Chefs, Bar area, outside seating

Cons: Need a Trattoria Toscana in LA!

Great Food, Great Host and Great Time!

by fausto_enrique

Great Food, Great Service, Nice location, and beautiful restaurant!! Go to Oreste Trattoria, recently renamed Trattoria Toscana by the new owners: Franco and Ramon, and have a wonderful dining experience! The Tuscan atmosphere and Venetian pictures give the restaurant a welcoming and cozy feeling. Small, cozy place, but very romantic if you need it to be, and great for groups. The wait staff are very friendly, and the food is out of this world. Definitely a must go! The long bar is also very nice and drinks are very good. Won't leave a hole in your pocket.

See the reviews for Oreste Trattoria. This new restaurant named Trattoria Toscana, formerly known as Oreste Trattoria, is a beautiful restaurant with outdoor seating and great & delicious food.

The host makes you feel at home, and the chefs serve exquisite dishes to make your dining experience at 64 Carmine Street a fabulous & enjoyable event.

Pros: Delicious Food, Great Host, Great Chef, Friendly Staff, Reasonable prices, Nice Looking Place, Good Wine list and outdoor seating
