We decided to splurge and spend a romantic weekend at the Inn in the Roosevelt Suite. It was anything but. We could hear every single word the people in the next room were saying ?? there was a good 2? gap at the bottom of the door that connected between the two rooms. It was impossible to regulate the heating system between frigid and sweltering. To top it off, each window had a sign on it saying it shouldn??t be opened, lest the windows fall out! I know it??s a historic building, but c??mon! Sunday morning the housekeeper opened up our room and started cleaning before we checked out. We were sitting downstairs having our breakfast while people were touring the inn ?? and presumably our room with all our belongings lying around. After we had paid our bill we saw the owner and decided to tell him about the issues we had. He was very gracious and offered to comp the bill. They claimed at the time that they couldn??t run the credit through that morning and would do so after we left. Unfortunately, they never credited our account, even after repeated attempts to contact the Inn (they never returned our calls). I can see why they ask for donations on their website ?? why would anyone stay there twice?

After attending a family wedding at the View Point Inn, I can see why others have been so upset with their experiences at this venue.

Positives:
The location is gorgeous - wonerful view and beautiful grounds. The Inn is being restored and the interior is fantastic. Brunch looks good (did not enjoy) and entrees at the wedding were delicious. The wedding coordinator and staff are all excellent (despite the constant griping and complaining of the owner, which was heard by guests).

Negatives:
The owner of the View Point Inn does not have good people skills. He was rude on several occasions, and seemed unaplogetic. He yelled and snapped at his clients (the people PAYING thousands of dollars to have their party at his venue), as well as wedding guests, vendors, and even his own staff. This unprofessional behavior is unacceptable; customers should NEVER be treated in such an arrogant manner.

During these difficult financial times, business owners can be under a lot of stress. This is NO EXCUSE for this man's lack of tact when handling the stress of running his business.

This venue is located in a residental area. We were berated for "making too much noise" at 10 PM. We were applauding the bride & groom, giving a traditional send off. Perhaps the owner should consider sticking to daytime weddings OR strictly brunch and dinner at this location. Because of this 'curfew', the party ended at 10. Dinner took so long to be served (over two hours), so we felt like our party was cut short & our guests were booted out the front door.

Although this is a beautiful venue, I will not return for brunch or dinner. Neither will many of our guests and vendors. The owner's attitude and lack of business ethics overshadow the delicious food and beautiful view.

Several weeks ago I booked my wedding night at the View Point Inn through their website's online reservations system. I checked the availability for the night and found that the rooms where available. I booked their best room for our wedding night.

I received an email from their system that confirmed our reservation. The subject line was "Reservation Request Dated XX/XX/200X". The email listed my name, the room requested, number of guests, the dates we where to be staying. Looks like a confirmation if I have ever seen one. Great, I now have a room for our wedding night. Nothing to worry about. Plans all in place.

Well, not exactly. Luckily , a few weeks later, my fiancee called the Inn to arrange for a bottle of wine to be in our room for our arrival. She was told that the Inn was now booked for a wedding that weekend and there was no availability. We were a more than a bit confused since several weeks earlier, we had booked the room and received a confirmation. The Inn keeper was very unapologetic and very uncaring toward my fiancee over the incident. The Inn keep quickly hung up on her.

Had my fiancee not called we would have showed up at the Inn on our wedding night expecting a room to only be turned away.

This appears to me that the inn received a request for a more lucrative wedding and booked out the entire inn regardless of prior reservations. So be aware that a reservation may not be honored by the inn.

I did notice their website has this statement on it:

"Saving the View Point Inn
We need your help preserving this Historic Building
Keeping our Doors open to the Public
Keeping the Dream Alive
Please donate as much as you can
Please help"

This might explain why our experience was what it was. My advice is to avoid this establishment.

I have never before experienced such a complete weekend full of romance and relaxation. The food in the restaurant is exquisite, most highly regarded restaurants in Portland do not compare! It is inventive, yet simple; flavorful, but not overwhelming. The wine list had something for every pallet and price range (but make no mistake this is a special occasion place). The service and charm are what you would expect to pay twice as much for at larger, less intimate resorts in the area. Besides the food, the view is worth the twenty mile drive from Portland (see the picture). There is a small bar on the property where the bartenders can make you a pre or post dinner cocktail, or even one for the Sunday brunch which is done with the same expertise and attention to detail as the lunch and dinner. The hotel has only four rooms, which makes this a very exclusive and intimate place to get away for a romantic weekend. We stayed in the Roosevelt Suite, which has a private bathroom and sitting/dinning area (which you can have a private dinner in if you wish) with an equally stunning view of the gorge and a wood burning fireplace. The other rooms are also beautifully done in period style with modern luxury, but lack a private bathroom (there is one shared with a very large and well kept shower and changing area, you can fully lock the door for privacy). I would be happy to stay in any of the rooms as they are spotless and are each unique in their own beautiful way. All in all, one of the best places we have found on the west coast and definitely Oregon and Southern Washington. We will go back as soon as we can. Two nights this time!
