Very cute!!! But cupcakes are not good.

by Jennifer H.

This is probably the cutest cupcake place on the planet. However, they are expensive and the cupcakes do not taste fresh. Being an avid baker, I can tell you that these cupcakes are fresh from the refrigerator, not the oven. Being right next to the place my children get their haircuts, I often get a coffee here and the staff is less than friendly. Also, their Obama cupcakes were $50 for a dozen. Wow! If you want creative and cute, this is the place. If you want taste and an upbeat staff, this is not the place.

Great Cupcakes

by Crystal M. | insider Insider | Rank: 14,390

Finally some cupcakes that live up to the hype! Not dry and flavorless like other Seattle cupcake stores, Trophy cupcakes are delicious. They're a little pricey so I wouldn't buy them often, but that's probably better for my health anyway! You can tell they use the best ingredients and don't skimp on the butter/sugar/etc...

Cute cupcakes!

by Tessa L. | insider Insider | Rank: 27,327

If you are looking for the one of the best cupcakes in town this is your place. You can customize your cupcakes for whatever special occasion you want. Their cupcakes were moist and cuter than Cupcake Royales. You can pick out different toppings and they have some unusually tasty cake mixes. It is a funky place in the Wallingford area but is definitely worth a try. Its the perfect treat for a rainy afternoon or a birthday party.

good/not good

by tracyanna

i used to take my son to trophy for our weekly mom/son outing. we loved the cupcakes. we loved them so much that i decided to order them for a friend's baby shower, and i hauled the $100 order to portland. i was shocked that some of the order was burnt, some of the order had very dry cakes. i wrote to the contact email on the trophy website. i was contacted by the owner and offered a refund and a coupon for a dozen cakes. i was impressed by this, but felt only the coupon was needed- my group did enjoy some of the cakes i bought! however, i was really dissapointed that the owner told me how many cakes were sold that day and how i was the only one to complain. which felt not so nice! and the worst part was that there was no follow through...i never received the coupon as promised (and this, after i graciously declined the refund!). i just can't give my money to a business after that.

Pros: good cupcakes

Cons: condescending

not as good as CRUMBS, but close enough

by west2east

Coming from the home of CRUMBS, I was surprised to find something close to the delicious cupcakes in NY. Then came Trophy. Trophy has great frosting and the cake is too dry. I think if it were to be more moist, itd be perfect! It's a great place to just purchase for friends bday, small parties, etc.

Pros: the frosting

Cons: the cake

rude service, fantastic cupcakes

by bronschar8

I called to place my order for $165 worth of cupcakes. I found the person who took my order to be rude and condescending. When I asked to have the cupcakes ready earlier than they could accommodate, Trophy Cupcakes said..."why don't you just have one of your friends come and pick them up if you can't make it." I'm sorry, but all of my friends are executives and professionals and don't have the time or flexibility to leave work at 9am, the start of the workday. Cupcake Royale is extremely courteous and accommodating, unfortunately, their cupcakes aren't as good as Trophy. Neither me nor my friends will return to Trophy.

Pros: delicious cupcakes

Cons: extremely rude service

Amazing amazing amazing!

by DrakeVeronica

I have dreams about these cupcakes. When they first opened I went up to Jennifer Shea and rambled like a nutcase on how insanely good everything was. It's just my favorite. I'd pay $10 for these cupcakes. The service people are all bitches but I don't care at all because they hand over cupcakes.

Pros: Their flavors

Cons: Unfriendly service, but I don't mind

Amazingly moist!

by cj78

I work at a place where we do a lot of parties and have sampled many of them. They are always moist and the frosting is not to sweet. It's a perfect balance. They also have a good selection. Thank you Trophy for making an excellent cupcakes and for not settling for way less like the other cupcake place.

I'm hooked!

by weaversc

Although I live in Portland, after seeing the owner make their chocolate graham cracker cupcake with toasted marshmallow frosting on on Martha Stewart during "Cupcake Week" last Spring, I made it a point to check out Trophy Cupcakes. Now I'm "hooked"! I've made at least 3 more visits to Trophy Cupcake, and I pick up cupcakes for myself, as well as treats for several friends and neighbors each time I go. My favorites are the "Vanilla Vanilla", "Snowball", "Snickerdoodle", and "Lemon Coconut". Not all flavors are available every day; if you want a particular flavor, be sure to check availability on their website before you go.

Pros: Vanilla Vanilla, Snowball, Snickerdoodle, and Lemon Coconut Cupcakes.

Cons: The shop itself is cute, but "eating in" feels like eating in the lobby of a small mall.

Divine!!

by crazyboutmycats

One of the vendors that works for me, brought us 2 dozen cupcakes from Trophy back in November. By far, they were the best cupcakes I have ever had in my life!!! I had the Triple Coconut and Chocolate with white buttercream. So yummy.....
I'm headed to a birthday party on Saturday, and I've already called in an order for pick up to hand carry down to Tacoma. I can hardly wait to sink my teeth into another coconut cupcake!!!!!

Pros: Excellent variety

Cons: They dont' sell the same flavors everyday, so check the web or call to make sure your favorite is available.

Cupcakes that are worth the drive from anywhere

by moliveros

Thanks to Seattle magazine, which had Trophy Cupcakes on the cover of its November issue, I have been craving these Cupcakes for about a week. I live on the Eastside and rarely go into downtown but those yummy s'mores cupcakes were taunting me. I've had them before so I knew how satisfying they'd were. Needless to say, I drove over and ordered SIX cupcakes... four for me and two for my husband. I. LOVE. THESE. CUPCAKES! They are so flavorful. The icings are exceptionally light and does not taste like heavy whipping cream at all. The s'mores are worth a taste. Just the icing alone (marshmallows) are a sweet treat!

The problem? They're gone before you know it.

Pros: Variety of flavors; free parking in Wallingford

Cons: Not all flavors are served daily so be sure to check for your favorites before heading out

Hummingbird Cupcakes are Pure Heaven!

by LadySusan

I've never actually been to the store -- I've only recently tried the cupcakes when a friend of mine bought a variety of them to go. All the ones I tried were yummy, but the hummingbird was in a class by itself. I would go to great lengths to get my hands on another one of these cupcakes. In fact, maybe I'll go take a little drive right now...

Kick A$$ Cupcakes, and Great Coffee

by Boddhissatva

Allow me to be brutally honest...I don't really like desserts...and I was never really crazy about sweets. But there is something about this place and its products that has me returning here over and over again like a Junkie looking desperately for his next fix. And each time I'm surprised, impressed or discover a new "favorite." If it's not the Vanilla Chocolate, its the Red Velvet, if its not the Triple Chocolate, its the Triple Coconut...and then there is the Green tea, and my new Favorite, the Chocolate Chip Mint. And if I'm not in the mood for their kick a$$ cupcakes, its the Coffee or espresso I look forward too. Yep living in Seattle for 11 years has regretfully morphed me into a coffee snob...and this place gets it right...my double Short Americano is the best here...The service is great. I have yet to have one bad experience here with the Staff (knock on wood)...and most importantly (from a heterosexual man's perspective) the cupcake girls are hot!

Gotta catch them on a good day, like Mondays!

by maddysmama

So the first time I went to trophy, I wasn't totally impressed. $3 a cupcake and I drove a good distance, thinking these were going to be exceptional. Customer service was really snotty. I mean wow, I thought I just walked into the upper Eastside snotty! I bought a dozen of cupcakes and between 5 different tastebuds nobody was really feeling it. So what brought me back you ask? I saw the recipe online for the Graham Cracker marshmallow and thought that was interesting. So back to Trophys I went and wow it was totally worth it. I even had the summer special and that was amazing! The hummingbird was okay. I can't complain moist cake and the frosting wasn't bad. Service was excellent this day. But I went back the next day, I know 2 days in a row, I'm bound to get fat some day! Service 2 ladies in the evening, not so friendly. If everyone was like the two in the morning yesterday trophy would be a lot better off. I bought cupcakes for my sisters birthday and what a waste of money. I bought the cafe au lait. Soooo dry, the frosting could not save it, red velvet: the bottom half was okay, but the top half was stiff :( and the chocolate w/ vanilla frosting was really good. So my conclusion is this, if you go for chocolate you can't go wrong. Everything else not worth $3 a pop.

Pros: Can't go wrong with chcolate cupcakes

Cons: Service is inconsistent

Follow Up to

by eleanore007

I would like to follow up to my earlier review posted August 30, 2008 (titled, No help with Birthday Parties). After I had posted that review, the owner posted an encouraging response, so I contacted her to give it another try (and I'll add that the cupcakes we had tried in the meantime at Cupcake Royale had been disappointing (very dry and not particularly interesting/flavorful)). Jennifer Shea handled my order personally, while she was perhaps a million months pregnant and ready to pop. She was quite the professional, a pleasure to work with, she really paid attention, and had great ideas. After we settled on the general parameters of the order, she delegated one of her assistants, Cara, who picked up the workload without any change in step. I think the owner has got something really great here (Trophy Cupcakes), and probably would do well to have a team on board whose consistency and quality of customer service is on par with these delectable cupcakes. The cupcakes prepared for my son's birthday party were as delicious to eat as they were a delight to look at, including an adorable presentation (they do great work with ribbon!), and were definitely the h i t of the party. Our guests enjoyed them, and we were so pleased. Thank you, Trophy, for coming through for us, thank you Cara for your excellent work, and thank you, Jennifer, for going the extra distance.

Poor customer service!

by 1view

My friend and I recently visited this place on a recommendation of someone else and we left there wondering what was so special. We unsure of where to order as we wanted coffee and cupcakes to go and the young gals behind the counter were so unfriendly they just made things worse. We wanted our cupcakes to go and asked them to put them in a box or whatever was easier and one clerk replied with sarcasm saying "a napkin would be easier". The only thing that would save this review was the cupcake itself. I'm sorry, but I don't see what all the excitement is about. The cupcake was dry and the frosting was so rich I scraped it off and down the disposal it went. The only positve thing was our iced coffees were great. I was not surprised to read all the other reviews about the poor customer service. I'll bake my own cupcakes next time.

Simply Fantastic

by soundeziner

I must admit to some hesitancy after reading a few of the negative reviews before me, but I ventured forth anyway as my fiance and I are looking for a good cupcake-ery or our wedding. What I found was marvelous.
The service was terrific. I have a fairly precocious 8 year old daughter who insisted on knowing what was in every cupcake before making her decision. She felt the need to ask about every possible topping available and took her time in making her final decision, changing her mind several times (chocolate or banana? no... what about mint? what's red velvet?...). The staff behind the counter took it in stride, holding a dual conversation with both my daughter and myself while still getting the job done.
The young woman who helped us knew the varieties well and answered every question without hesitation. The only question that tricked her was, "How do I contact your wedding coordinator?" Apparently the coordinator has a new phone number and not everyone at the counter knew. Fortunately, another young woman behind her was also paying attention and promptly helped her out and answered questions about tasting, etc.
If any of the above is "rude" or "bad" service, then all of the negative reviewers below must have been expecting to have their cupcakes personally delivered under glass on silver platters. It's all I can think of...

The cupcakes... moist, flavorful and worthy of the praise. They moist enough that not a crumb was shed when my daughter pulled the muffin top off, and yet the wrappers yielded without sticking. A miracle combination I've never managed at home . The mint flavoring in the mint frosting was not candy mint nor mediciney mint but genuine, I-used-to-chew- mint-leaves-in-my-mom's- garden-as-a-kid mint.

To sum up: GO.

Pros: Excellent cupcakes!

Cons: It's more than a 5 minute walk from my front door.

horrible service, not so great taste either

by alicema

I tried to order cupcakes for my wedding as recommended by some friends. I had a tasting, and was impressed with two of the 4 flavors. However it took over a month to finally get a quote, and when I had further questions about delivery etc. I never heard back. I called and emailed several times the wedding director, and she never got back to me. maybe my order was to small to bother but over 200 dollars worth of cupcakes was a lot to me. I will never go there again nor suggest it to anyone else.

No Safeway Cupcake

by gwendolynj

These are no Safeway cupcakes. These are worth a trip to Wallingford for. These are worth a trip to Wallingford every day of the week for, since every day of the week has a different set of flavors to choose from! I would recommend going online and going on the day that has the flavors that tempts you most. Out of the six flavors I have had, Hummingbird and Red Velvet and Triple Chocolate and Coconut are AMAZING! I could not have been more surprised to find rich, dense, mouth-watering cake below the beautiful and wonderfully rich frosting on top. Nobody wants crumbly cake but so often it is! Not here, it's worth a trip. Not to mention a lovely cafe au lait and a selection of birthday themed gifts/supplies in a darling setting right in the Wallingord center.

Pros: Instant cheer from the sight and taste, easy parking

Cons: Seating is limited

Bad customer service - Yummy cupcakes

by jdlack

I went to Trophy Cupcakes to get a pull apart cupcake cake for my daughter's 4th b-day party. It is advertised everywhere you see Trophy cupcake ads. I was greeted with a "do you need something", I was then told they do not make those anymore. So I wanted to order regular cupcakes for the party 1 week away. The girl asked what I wanted. I asked what do you suggest. She suggested I go home and look at their website and then call or come back when I know what I want. I was shocked!!!!! I told her I work full time and this was my day off and I needed to take care of it today. So we went thru the painful process of trying to order plain chocolate and vanilla cupcakes. I was then told, in a very snotty way, that there would be a 2 dozen min. order. When I asked what my total would be - I was told it would be "like 50 bucks or so".
I have emailed the company 3 times but have not heard back. I have relayed my experience to everybody I know. I feel bad because, as I have been bad mouthing this place, I have heard the owner is a wonderful person. Trophy needs to hire people that represent you and your product in a MUCH BETTER MANNER. I never write reviews but I was so disappointed in the way we were treated.

Pros: easy parking and tasty treats

Cons: VERY RUDE CUSTOMER SERVICE

Give it a chance - the cupcakes are worth the wait

by KC68

I somewhat agree with the poster below me - I went to Trophy the day after they appeared on Martha, and they were definitely overwhelmed. If I didn't know the reason why the lines were so long, the trays weren't full and the staff was harassed, I might have felt the same way. But keeping all that in mind, I don't rate them down on customer service. They could have done better - pre-made the boxes for example, but with that many people there, I totally understood.
That said, the whole reason for the visit (the cupcakes) didn't disappoint. I've had Cupcake Royale and they don't impress me at all. Same with Hello Cupcake in Tacoma. I don't understand how professionals can't make moist cupcakes! Well, Trophy did and I LOVE them. My main criteria anymore is how moist the cake is and they definitely succeeded. I had a Snowball - chocolate cake with vanilla icing and pink coconut (just like it's namesake) and it was delicious. The PB&J was delicious too with this peanut butter and strawberry icing, moist cake and a smidge of jelly inside. I think the plain vanilla frosting could use a smidge more sugar. Overall, well worth the trip (and I live in Tacoma). I'm not sure when I'll get back there but if it will be a stop when we are in Seattle.

Pros: MOIST cake, flavorful frosting

Cons: Too far away from me

Skip it - Cupcake Royal has better customer service!

by stephen133

Talk about a bunch of unhappy NASTY people! After all the press over Trophy cupcakes I had to try them. Although the cupcakes were good the hoops you have to jumb through to get them weren't worth it. Even after speaking with the owner I was totally put off by the snobby attitude and less then steller customer service. Trust me if I've taken the time to write a review it was AWFUL! After relaying the experience to family, friends, co-workers I was amazed to hear the number of people who had similar experiences. Personally I could careless about ever having one of their cupcakes again!

Pros: Good cupcakes - imaginative flavors.

Cons: NO customer service, not very clean.

Not good for weddings

Cons: Not helpful service

Pretty to look at, but not that tasty. Limited seating

by daintydiva

The atmosphere is really cute and the cupcakes are decorated beautifully. However, there is very limited seating. The cupcake itself was the most dissapointing. I had the lemon which is a basic flavor and hard to mess up. It was a little stale and the cake was very bland and even a little bitter tasting. The frosting was okay, but lacked a real lemon flavor. I love cupcakes and could do a much better job at home. At $3 a cupcake, I won't be returning.

by foooooddddyyy

Wow! First heard about in "Seattle's Best" Magazine last year. Went with my mom who was visiting. We each got one and then turned around an bought 4 more for breakfast and lunch! My favs include Triple chocolate, triple cocunut, and green tea. Also, the tops always are crispy under the frosting...how the heck do they do that! Whoops, I forgot mint chocolate! I am sad because we are military so we are moving in June...what will I do??? Oh yeah, I drive 1 hr from Puyallup for this place.

Pros: seriously good

Heavenly cupcakes in a pretty setting

by seattlefoodlva

I finally tried trophy cupcakes today for the first time. People usually tells me to go to Cupcake Royale to get a cupcake fix. But let me tell you: they are so wrong. Trophy cupcake is so much better. I got the snickerdoodle, lemon, green tea, and hummingbird. My favorite so far is the snickerdoodle; it's a pretty, sophisticated comfort food, with a distinct cinnamon flavor. The frosting is fluffy, not crusty like Royale's, and the cake is moist. The green tea cupcake is very unique, and you'll love it of you like green tea. I also like the hummingbird, though it's not my favorite. I think the cream cheese topping is too thick. The cake is not sweet at all, which complements the sweetness of the frosting very well. The frosting is not cloyingly sweet, and doesn't have the "packaging" taste that I can taste with Royale's cupcakes.

Pros: heavenly cupcakes, friendly service, many cupcake varieties, parking lot available

Cons: it's not a cafe: no seating, close pretty early.

I hate writing about this, as I don't want more people snatching up the most delicious cupcakes in the nation (Thats right better than NY's famous Magnolia Cupcake), but they really are amazing. Light, moist, tasty and big they are undeniably a most have for those that love cupcakes. The peanut butter chocolate are a must try..

Pros: Everythin

Cons: None

Best cupcakes ever!

by cmg2002

This place is soooo fabulous! The cupcakes here are, hands down, my favorite sweet the City of Seattle has to offer. They have lots of yummy flavors. (Snowball is my favorite.) As a devoted home baker, I can tell they use only the finest ingredients for these little bites of heaven. The cake is always fresh and moist and the icing is sooo delicious and smooth. Way better than the nasty dried-out and overly sugary offerings at Cupcake Royale. Plus the presentation, from the adorable vintage vibe of the shop, to the fancy sprinkles on the cakes, is gorgeous. You can tell the owner pays close attention to detail. Oh, and they serve delicious coffee and espresso. The staff is sometimes a little flaky and slow but that is the only flaw in an otherwise absolutely delightful place. Everyone I have ever brought here has loved it. I went waaayyyyy too often last year when I was pregnant, and now that I'm trying to lose the baby weight, I sometimes wish I could forget how delicious their treats are!

Pros: Scrumptious cupcakes and coffee

Cons: None

Trophy Cupcakes shine in the Emerald City

by semiller23

I've never been a huge cake/cupcake/sugar fan...until about two weeks ago when I took my first few steps into Trophy Cupcakes and Party inside the Wallingford Center-The epicenter of Seattles cupcake universe. From their vanilla vanilla's to their chocolate peanut butters, I am finding myself wandering their way on a daily basis. The asthetics of the store is just an added bonus. With its vintage appeal and complimentary color scheme, my heart as well as my taste buds belong to this new, extraordinary addition to the Emerald City.

Pros: Friendly staff, amazing special order options, great coffee

Cons: You won't be able to stay away!

Best Cupcake in Seattle

by redhots

So I must say I have had cupcakes at Cupcake Royale and Trophy cupcakes. Trophy is so moist and delicious. The snickerdoodle is the best thing since sliced bread. The case is amazing. When I walk into Trophy it looks like what a cupcake shop should look like........BEAUTIFUL! I love the amazing hot chocolate that taste so creamy and silky and carmal. I just need to go there more often. I even live closer to cupcake Royale and will continue to drive by. I will drive across town for a Trophy cupcake. I have a friend that works at Barney's who was telling me that they had ordered cupcakes for there opening at Trophy Cupcake. It was so beautiful. The way they decorate their cupcakes is just so pretty. I feel like a princess when I go there. I am totally recommending them for every event I can think of at work. Good Job Trophy Cupcake!

Pros: I would pay more for this cupcake. Moist, creamy frosting, beautiful

Cons: They are always packed when I go there on Saturdays

Cupcake Royale Rules. ... and Trophy Cupcake just proved it.

by ellefatale

I am a die hard cupcake fan and Cupcake Royale just slays me everytime. I was skeptical when a coworker mentioned Trophy Cupcakes and how amazingly better they were than Cupcake Royale. Rightfully so. I visited Trophy today and was really bummed. The display case was full of boring looking cupcakes! There something about pink frosting on a cupcake that just makes it look that much more delicious. There were no colors other than white, offwhite and chocolate. I chose the Snickerdoodle because I love cinnamon. My fellow cupcake (Royale) lover friend got the Peanut Butter and Jelly. We both chowed down and realized, WHOA this is WAY too sugary. too much frosting. the cake was too moist and tasted eggy! Seriously! How could a cupcake be THIS wrong?! Before anyone judges my love of sugar, question no further. I would rather sacrifice the cake and eat frosting for the rest of my life. For Real. But this was just too much. Granted, the frosting was unbeatably creamy which was nice. but just not nice enough. The PB&J was okay but nothing that I would get again (or convince a friend she should get). I think Trophy Cupcake has sacrificed tasty for creative. They are also significantly more expensive than Royale. Why would I pay that much more for subpar cupcakes? I will probably never go back, and I am not trying to be hateful. But I would travel far and wide for Cupcake Royale and their crispy "muffin top" deliciousness.

Pros: creamy frosting. gift shop feel to it

Cons: expensive for a cupcake. too much frosting. the cupcake in general.

As a fan of another cupcake place in seattle, I was told about this place and had to try it. I am SOLD! This place is amazing. The cupcakes, moist, delicious, and wonderful flavors. My nephew and I LOVED the Hi-Hats..... The combination of quality and taste are very apparent.
This is what Seattle needed. I have told all my friends about this place. It is kid friendly, with great lil tables.
Thank you TROPHY!

Pros: Flavor, quality, choices, friendly staff

Cons: the only drawback is sometimes sold out! (but only since soo good)

We're big cupcake fans and regular patrons of Cupcake Royale, so were excited when a new cupcake place opened in our neighborhood. It is better than we could hope for, with great cakes and interesting flavors. The red velvet and hummingbird (banana, pineapple, not sure what else) are already family flavor favorites. Coffee is decent too, but you go here for the cakes and the European drinking chocolate.

Pros: Cup cakes and drinking chocolate

Cons: Little bit expensive
