I say...find another bar.

by jamiesaidgogators

Spacious. However, Happy Hour is INTENSE and super crowded. I went there after Happy Hour, to visit a friend bartending. Total B&T crowd, and my friend's Louis got stolen FROM THE BAR COUNTERTOP after she paid for a drink .Sketch, sketch, sketch.

Total sausage fest, but unless you're into the whole B&T thing, don't go. And no offense if you are...that's just what it is.

They do carry Basil Hayden's and Van Gogh Espresso Vodka...two plusses.

DO NOT PLAN A PARTY HERE

by fmm4v

The staff, from party planner to bouncers, were extremely rude and nasty. They were unaccomodating and condescending. I reserved a table for my friends and I, except they refused to let in most of my party. I explained I had friends from out of town visiting, but they had zero consideration and still turned them away. Once everyone got fed up and left, the party planner THEN offered to let in my friends- TOO LITTLE, TOO LATE. The staff was beyond unhelpful and obnoxious. I would highly recommend never going to this bar. The line was out of control even though there was plenty of room inside for more occupants.

Cons: Poor service, rude/nasty staff

BEST MIDTOWN HAPPY HOUR

by RLJ74

Stopped in for a few drinks after work before hoping on the train back to westchester; place was packed. As long as you get a spot at the bar your set, bartends were quick to refill my drink and crowd was fun. Didnt get a chance to try the food but I'm looking to get back there soon to give it a try.

Umm...HORRIBLE

by megawega14

I had a horrible experience last week with my coworkers. I had heard this place gets busy during Happy Hour, and it was -- But, it was FRATASTIC. So many yuppy frat boys thinking that redbull vodkas were "cool" and the service was slow. The food was awful. We even tried to talk to the manager, but he seemed distant and uninterested. I was offered sweet potato fries and said yes, but wasn't told I would be charged 3 dollars for them. And, there aren't even any Happy Hour Deals!?!?! Why do people go here? AWFUL. Poorly run and slow staff -- do not recommend.

Cheerful, mentally challenged staff

by drink_club1

I applaud efforts to employ the mentally challenged. But sometimes, especially when serving the public, this can go too far.
Drink Club went to THE PUBLIC HOUSE during the vice-presidential debates. The large sports-oriented wall-mounted TVs
all showed the event. BUT, the sound was off, and a DJ was blasting 80s music. Well, you could just read the captions, right?
Nope. They didn't have the captions on. When one of our group went to the bar to suggest they turn them on, the bar-tender
told her "Our tech crew is working on it." They never figured out how to do it.
Our cheerful waitress came to take our order for food and drink. Half of it came. We ordered again/more. Half of that came.
During our first order, the waitress told us that "the kitchen closes at 11 o'clock."
"Could you let us know beforehand?" I asked. "So we can have a last-call before closing?"
"Sure," said the waitress.
Yeah right.
We tried ordering at 10:59, were told that "it's too late. The kitchen's closed."
When we reminded the waitress about our "last call" request, she said she wasn't able to comply because "I don't have a watch."
The food was okay, but we left hungry. After 9:30 the tables empty and the jockish crowd stands around the bar and yells at
each other. It is not a thrill! --Drink Club NYC is a roving group of NYC drinkers

Pros: cheerful, convenient location, lots of space

Cons: service, volume level

Try the blue cheese stuffed olives martini..amazing! I would definitely come back for happy hour and lunch! Try the chipolte wings or spinach dip! Steaks are great too!

Great service, nice crowd!

by kayreezy

My friend and I took a lot of time planning my 30th birthday party at a place called Bogart's. Unfortunately, my experience with them was horrible, leaving me with 30 guests and no place to go. We looked like a freak show parade walking down Park ave with all of our costumes on!

Luckily my friend found Public House who already had a halloween party in place. I loved it! The guys at the door were great, opening the doors for us, making sure no one tripped and fell on the ramp (since everyone had skimpy costumes..) Drinks were a little pricey- the norm for midtown, but well worth the great crowd there, great space and overall, great attitude accomodating us all!

I've never been there for lunch or dinner, but I'll definitely return and check it out again!

Pros: Good amount of space and great service

Cons: I didn't get to try food, it was a halloween party...

what??

by salty123

I cant believe what I'm reading about my favorite bar. I work around the corner and love it there. I go after work alot and have been there once or twice late night...definitely a different crowd but fun to see familiar bartenders' faces there. I happen to love them...they're hilarious and always remember my drink.
Havent had a bad experience yet!

Pros: big space

Cons: still gets crowded

rude staff

by nycbusinesschick

This place is not worth the trip. I went for lunch with a couple of coworkers things were going well. I informed the server that I had a dairy allergy and she snickered. I don't thing a dairy allergy is a funny thing. If that is how Public House represents it self with rude staff I am never going back.

Pros: Nothing

Cons: Staff

Burger?

by MrGrayGoose

Went here for lunch and it was bad. Had the chicken fingers which were burnt and asked for blue cheese dressing and received something that resembled blue cheese dressing but tasted like chemicals. Had the burger and it was so dry on a burnt bun with a tomato that still had the core. Even a fast food chain doesn't serve the core in their tomato slices. Read the other reviews and wonder who wrote them because I did not receive that type of experience.

Pros: My meal made me not want to come back

Cons: The food.

Worst Lunch

by freddyfingers212

Went to Public House based on the others reviews. Wish I hadn't listened. I ordered the artichoke dip and it was so dry you could spackle the holes in the walls. Then ordered the hamburger and it was so dry and over done that the Bruins could have used it as a hockey puck. Learned my lesson I will never go back.

Pros: None

Cons: Everything else

Hopeless Hour

by FDNYChick718

Went here for Happy Hour and it was all suits still thinking that they are at their frat house doing shots of Jaegar bombs. I tried to order a drink and the brunette bartender was doing shots of tequila with the customers. I waited forever to get a drink. It was the worst experience I have ever had at a happy hour. Public House should rename their Happy Hour HOPELESS HOUR.

Pros: If you like waiting still the staff is done drinking to get your drink

Cons: Frat House atmosphere

Best Lunch Special

by 72pencils

I wandered into Public House last Friday and ended up having a 3 hour lunch at the bar. My girlfriends and I got this awesome lunch special which included a huge cheeseburger (that was to die for!) and a pint of beer for $10! The bartender was really sweet and made us feel like we were at our neighborhood bar, although there were classy business lunches going on right behind us. We ended up sticking around and until happy hour & had a blast. I highly recommend this spot if you?re in midtown or just feel like having a drink.

Best Midtown bar scene for happy hour or after hours

by Tdonoh

The service is prompt and the specialty drinks were great. Filet Mignon sliders were unbelievable, if the hot bartenders don't keep me coming back, the menu will.

Great atmosphere, great food, great service

by deac00

I picked this place to host an informal birthday party of sorts during NCAA weekend. Originially, the party was supposed to be for 20 people, which Public House easily accomodated my reserving the 2 tables in the middle section for us. However, the group became a bit larger (think we had 30 at one point). Most places would have been annoyed but not our server/hostess. They simply got us more chairs and additional tables to add on as needed. Both the hostess and server were extremely polite and accomodating throughout the evening and I would having an absolutely fantastic birthday. This is a really great place and it's so large that you can always find a spot that isn't too crowded and they have a great upstairs area. They have great food and a variety of beers on tap as well.

Pros: service, atmosphere, food/drinks

Cons: Gets crowded after 10/11 on weekends with college type crowd

Pros: great food with great service

Cons: may be alittle loud, so i wouldnt go if you want something too intimate

Great afterwork and late night bar scene

by Mark1957

I first went to Public House a week ago Monday. It had a great bar scene. We decided to stay for dinner and it was well worth it. The pricing was very good and the food was just as good. My wife had the Chicken Tucson salad and loved it. I went basic with the burger and was pleased. I went back again today and sat at the bar to have lunch. The bartender was terrific and once again so was my meal. I will be back.

Pros: service and bar scene

Cons: no problems

BEWARE!!!

by zghaly

Good bar & great drinks...BUT, make sure you keep your receipt and monitor your credit card bill - I was overcharged!! I clearly left a 20% tip (not a penny less), but the waitstaff felt they deserved more and at my expense!!!

Pros: crowd

Cons: ethics

Great Bar/Restaurant

by mjm222

Public House is a phenominal place. From the decor, to the beautiful 100+ foot bar, to the 'upscale' bar food, it's a favorite NYC spot. Whether it be for a happy hour, a business lunch, a dinner date, or meeting up with friends on the weekend to enjoy their vast drink menu, Public House will not disappoint.

Pros: Great food, employees could not be any nicer, great drink menu, decor is awesome

Cons: Have not experienced any
