Paid a lot less than what I spent the first time I got great lengths. Shandra was faster and the cut was better. She is funny and the conversations in the salon make time fly.

The price is very good, a little cheaper than what I expected. The place is clean and Chandra works fast. Had a consultation in the brooklyn spot, bought my hair there and got my hair done in manhattan. She's good and I really like the new extensions.

Got the i'link micrbead extensions. Happy with the service got my hair extensions in manhattan by her. Her phone rang the whole time she did my hair which was distracting but she doesnt talk and talk while she's doing your hair like other stylists. Called for a tightening appointment and she said she is now in Brooklyn which is a bit far for me. She does hair well so I will take the trip.

it was a hard time finding her again after she did my hair in 2009. She closed down her salon in queens and I was searching and found a place in astoria that was not to far from where she used to be. I spent almost 2,000 dollars and it came out sorta okay but not the way Shanda does hair. After searching I found her but Shanda is now in brooklyn. I was happy to hear she was just on maternity leave and that she didn't stop doing hair thank god. Got my hair done and it was great as usual and almost

1500 dollars cheaper than the other place and she paid for my lunch! FYI: Some of her clients can be quite annoying diva types. I wear my hair in a realistic looking layered shoulder length style but some of these girls really think they are Beyonce. Its brooklyn so walk in customers are rude sometimes. Parking is better at this place than her old queens place. Caribbean food is sold in a nice place at the corner, which I love.

I got a long straight Remy weave done by Shanda. I've gotten so many compliments. At first I was gonna get a lace front weave but we both agreed with brutal honesty that I looked like Neanderthal woman because I have a low hairline. She suggested the weave which fit my face and made me look super. This took hours out of her day - to take out the neanderthal thing, wait for me to get new hair, etc. She did not complain or charge extra. She's great. I paid $200, which I consider a steal considering that she's a professional and other places charge like $120 for 5 bumpy rows and plop some gel in front and call it a day. Plus, she's not a mute. She'll talk and make the time enjoyable.

I have had my share of weaves and the best stylist Ive been to lives in Atlanta, other than Shanda. I don't like my hair braided tight, and most people say they can close a full head weave but she knows how to do it right. She is very quick and professional. I found her on craigslist, and she was a great experience unlike others on cl. Also her price was higher than other stylers on there. I paid 200.00 and I will go back to her.

Cons: none!

Let me say I have had extension done by many people, and she is one of the most interesting stylists I have ever met! I went to her salon in Long Island city in 2005 for a consultation. I thought she was way too expensive so I went somewhere else to get my extensions done. I also didn't like the fact that she kept disagreeing with me about the type of extensions that were best for my hair. I wanted the glue type keratin and she suggested microlinking. Eventually she told me to find someone else to do my hair. (I got kind of heated lol) I found this person on craigslist for half the price and needless to say the job was done horribly. Her price was 300.00 included the hair which was not enough to make it as full as I like. So I went to Shanda to fix it, to add some hair to make i t fuller. That was a waste because the original hair they gave me didn't match mine at all, so I had to pay her to remove the old hair, buy new hair and start from scratch. WHATEVER GLUE ADHESIVE ( I STILL DONT KNOW TILL THIS DAY) that chick on craigslist put in my hair destroyed it. When Shanda took out what she put in WITH MICROLINKING my hair was fine. My hair from the glue fusion looked like someone chewed it up. She said the glue was just too harsh for my hair, and I should have listened. So she redid my hair, I payed 550 w/ the hair included. That was 4 years ago. She has grew my hair back, way past where it was in 2005, I had to cut it a few times to catch up to the damaged the CL girl caused but now I only add microlinks for highlights now. I will never let anyone else do my hair because the damage they cause is way more "COSTLY" than having the right person do it the right way the first time.

Let me just tell you about Shanda before you go to her. LISTEN TO HER.. she knows what she is talking about. Everything is not for everyones hair. You need to let her see your hair first. The lady on Craigslist gave me a price without seeing my hair. How the hell does she even know how much hair I need and what texture i know that NOW I should have realized that, it would have saved me some $$ AND SAVED MY HAIR. I went by her price and my hair came out jacked up.

She will also do you hair at anytime, I had to fly out to LA on a 8am flight, she did my hair at 2am the day before. She also has different prices on different days.

She will aslo travel to you. I flew her out to my work site in Atlanta once, and she travels to me in Connecticut sometimes, going to her is cheaper though.

She is not the NICEST person on the planet. It took me a minute to get used to her attitude, i HAVE TO BE HONEST. If you are late, she will let you know she is not happy about it. Then again she does so many people a day, I understand why an extra hour is a big deal to her. I came to my first appointment with all this stuff I printed out from the internet telling her what "I KNEW", and she kind of laughed me off. I though that was rude, but she was right. What I knew is how I decided the glue type of extensions where best for me and my hair got all ripped up. She is also not the meanest. She kind of has a straight forward tll it like it is personality, which can turn some people off I know it turned me off at first.

Oh yeah, I didn't realize until I had my hair done 3 times by her, if you pay cash she will give you discounts. Also i you cancel appointments she will double book your appointment next time. I was so ANGRY about this but I am not mad at her. She does her thing, when it comes down to it time is money and I respect her. I really admire when I see a young woman of color doing her thing. She is professional, fun and a PERFECTIONIST which is important to me, whoever does my hair should be a perfectionist.

I went today and got my sew-in weave taken out, and had fusion extensions put in. I brought my own hair that I bought myself.

The atmosphere in the shop was pretty pleasant, small and intimate. Felt kind of like just hanging around with people, without them asking personal questions of you--at all--which I like.

The only drawback is the location and building, but it didn't really bother me, and you get to pay a lower price than what you'd pay in Manhattan. The price of putting in the extensions was $460, not including what I spent on the actual hair itself.

I was a little miffed to leave the salon with my hair not styled the way I like it, but that's always the case for me. When I got home and did it myself: wow! What in insane improvement over my weave. I feel happy with what I see in the mirror again. I can tell the extensions are very securely in place, and very neatly done.

Cons: a little out of the way

shanda does an excellent job. i didn't buy my hair from her, but she put it in and it came out beautifully. i've been to a LOT of places throughout the years and she is the best. i'm glad i listened to these citysearch reviews. the place is annoying to get to, in my opinion, and it's not a glamorous shop, but it's clean and sanitary. don't judge a book by it's cover! the price is reasonable for the quality. she is fast once you get in the chair, but the first few times i had to wait a really long time, even with an appointment. she is very busy all the time, but she worked with me to fit me in for an important occasion. she's really professional and was nothing but nice to me. i've already recommended her to a few people. she knows what she's doing and the results are great.

Pros: undetectable extensions/weave, owner worked with my schedule, reasonable price

Cons: place it not easy to get to, very busy schedule - but that just means she's in demand for a reason!

I live in Virginia Beach, and Shandra came to me in VA and LA. I travel a lot for work and she travels to me (I reimburse her travel and lodging of course) It is very hard to find someone who knows what they are doing with strand to strand extensions. I have visited the salon in New York only one time. She gets very busy on the weekends which was a negative for me, I like my 1on 1 attention, so I will continue to have her travel to me. For what she offers she is affordable, Ive had the same technique done for cheaper but ended up with a mess on my hands because it was not done properly and started to come out within a few weeks. Her extensions are the same size, and stay in for about 5 months.

Shanda is very professional. YOU MUST GO TO HER, don't let anyone else do your hair there. Been going here for over 2 years now, and very happy with my hair, its growing very nicely after I had micros done on 125th street that ripped out my edges. Over the last two years there have been ALOT of staff changes, which is one bad thing I noticed here but I always go to the owner. My hair is in great shape which is important to me, some people want to wear weaves for ever, I need my hair to still be healthy when I take the weave out. DO NOT GO TO ANYONE OTHER THAN THE OWNER is my suggestion the other people that work there aren't half as good as her, she just knows hair, knows weave and the proper placement to make it look like its yours.PERIOD.

I must admit, I am a hair salon hopper. If someone does my hair badly i will not got back. I was confused about the pricing at first but it was explained to me, the smaller you wanted your hair done, the less detectable it would be, the longer it would take and more it would cost. Went in for the consultation, the stylists was very educated in the different extension types. She found a texture that matched my hair which I liked. There was a young lady there trying to argue with the stylist that she wanted to put in silky hair, and the girls hair looked like a brillo pad. I appreciate a person who will be honest about what looks natural and what does not. Anyway, the girl insisted that silky hair be put into her no where near shiny/silky coarse hair. the stylist warned her this would not look natural. I found this to be very odd because A natural look is very important to me and that is what I got. It is very sad when black people want to believe their hair texture is anything other than what it is. I am glad she picked the hair that looked natural on me, I got the fusion type at 500.00 and that included my hair. Unlike other extension places I've been to she actually knew how to cut and style hair as well. I will be going back to her again.

Pros: knows alot about hair weaves and extensions, I get alot of compliments

Cons: can get lost easily in the area, parking is difficult

.

Terrible experience overall:
Location: Inconvenient to get to if you do not have a car. They are often late and if they are not there, you must wait outside of a warehouse in a remote location. Personnel: More lies: these "stylists" are untrained in hair and customer service. I paid $700 to have large obvious extensions installed by a novice. When I tried to have the problem fixed, my calls were ignored. I had to go to work for a couple of weeks with sloppy hair until I could find someone else to remove the extensions! NO sense of customer service at all.
Professionalism: extremely unprofessional. They try to pass off fake YAK hair as human hair and charge you for it. Do not trust them. PLEASE buy and bring your own hair!

Overall: AVOID this sham of a salon for your professional, mental and financial health

LEAVE A DEPOSIT. Otherwise you go on a list. I was very pleased with the service I received there. The two stylists who worked on me were very friendly and worked very quickly. Only one stylist cuts and styles everyone but she is very good. I got a great leangths weave for 500.00 with the hair. My cousin came with me and got a full head with tracks for about 200 I think. I dont like tracks but I was surprised how flat and good the top looked, and it wasn't fake looking. I went on a saturday but the owner gives discounts for weekdays. If I knew this I would have took off from work.

This place is amazing. My hair looked so amazing and continues to look amazing 3 weeks later...yay! I was afraid of getting a weave, but they tell you exactly how to maintain it and it looks stunning! Friends and family are still commenting on it and it feels so natural. I got the micro rings. All in all good service, good price, great results...I found my new hair salon!

This place is a little tricky to find, parking is pretty bad in the area so be prepared, I know for next time to take the train. The place is small and the phone rings constantly. She is constantly on the phone. I was about 20 minutes late for my appointment, but she still took me. I had to wait at the end of my hair (which took 6 hours) for my boyfriend to pick me up and the person after me was over an hour late. They got sent home and they did not go quietly. My hair is honey blond and wavy and only straight dark hair is included in the price so my hair ended up being 500 instead of 375. I tried to get a saturday appointment, there was a month wait, so I had to take off work but it was worth it.

Like another reviewer said, the website appears to be a lie. They have at least two sites and there are different things on each site. For example, on one of the sites, it says that hair is included in the extension price. This isn't true.

I'm not sure if Storm aka Shanda (the only person in the "shop" ) had a problem with me on site but her people skills were poor. She is intelligent and knows a lot about the craft, but not very personable. I scheduled a consultation (which I assumed would be private). It was however, done in front of everyone in the "shop." The shop is a ROOM in a large factory building. It is not a close to the train and the "shop" looks more like a large storage closet than a salon.

I have been to salons that didn't look that great on the outside, but this, along with her strange attitude, the fact that she us located in the middle of nowhere (unless you drive or live in Queens) just really turned me off.

I'm glad I drove because it is in a deserted area and the building is so large, you can get lost in it. I kid you not! FYI, the "shop" has no ventilation and is very warm. Overall, it was not a place I wanted to spend $500+ and be for 4 hrs plus.

After you trek up the stairs (3rd floor of large industrial building lol) you would at least hope to be greeted with a friendly, comfortable atmosphere. Instead I was stared at and told to fill out a QUESTIONNAIRE.

After all, she has quite a few RULES (i.e. don't bring anyone with you, penalization if you're more than 15 mins late), and I was late b/c I got lost. So maybe that was what caused her unfriendly attitude. :shrugs: At least now I now where NOT to go.

It was however, done in front of everyone in the "shop." Pros: She seems to know about various techniques

Cons: That should be a given. That is the only positive thing I can say about this place.

First of all..... MAKE AN APPOINTMENT. They require you leave a deposit. I was leary of this and decided to be a walk in. Bad move, I ended up coming in waiting an hour with 3 other peopleand they sucking it up and leaving a DEPOSIT. I dont like to wait. I just made an appointment for a consultation and then had it done the next day. The deposit was 100.00. The girl knows how to do a fusion very well. I have had it done before and they were very big and hers were small and compact. My full head was 500.00. Ive paid less before but the extensions were big and didnt move well. She cuts with a razor... i was relieved. I have found my new hair weave home.

Pros: does more than one method, and is fast

Cons: she will tell you the truth about your hair good bad and ugly

Being a transgendered BLACK male, I needed to find a place that wasn't full of catty people who are judgemental. I am used to SALONS WHERE WHEN YOU WALK THROUGHT THE DOOR eyes are burning a hole into you. This place is nothing like that. I liked the fact that this was one on one, and not people all in my head when I was getting my hair done. I purchased a lace front wig, after the one I bought at invisawig turned out HORRIBLY. Waited a week and had it put on. I love my wig, and am very satisfied with the work. I like the factthat they don't only offer one type of weave and have a very diverse clientel. I will be going back again and again.

I have been getting extensions for quite some time, and was tired of tracks. I tried a brazilian knot extensions somewhere else, but my hair did not agree with this type of extensions. It broke off really bad. Also the person who did the extensions, didn't know where to put them so they fall naturally. It was important to me to find someone who knows how to put them in, cut style them and take care of my own natural hair.

So I tried these micro clamp extensions, I did not want anything that involved glue because I knew it was not good for how I style my hair. It worked out well. It last me about 5months, and I will redoit again. I am very pleased. I would recommend this place.

Please ladies if you love having hair on your head then do not let Shanda Smith touch your hair. She has a great sales pitch and appears to be a professional but in the end it is all smoke and mirrors. I went to Fusion Extensions for length. I had nice hair shoulder length hair but after their horrible service my hair is broken off and very damaged. They use pliers and acetone to take out the extensions. (They do not tell you what the removal actually is but if you have ever been in a nail shop, your nose knows the truth). It was like a nightmare and now I have to deal with broken hair and for what...The extensions look great but when you take them out the hair that you came in with is gone!!!!

Pros: Price

Cons: You end up bald!!

.

100% satisfied. But I must admit when I came across the price at first, I was like no way. Now, I am a two time fusion valued customer and I am ready to go back to update my style for a third time. The amount of money you spend here is reasonable for the quality of hair style you get. If you go somewhere else, they are most likely to charge you a high price simply because Beyonce' or Jessica Simpson are known for a wanted style although, their hair skills do not add up to the money they want you to spend. If you're going to spend any money to get your hair done, spend where it iwell ( I am spending mine at 'Hair Extensions New York')!

Pros: Listen to their advise; they are very experienced and know what's best.

Cons: Only in New York and South VA . I wish one was closer to me :(

It seemed more like a sleepover than a hair appointment! I am on bedrest and only 5 months pregnant, so traveling to a salon was not really an option. As miserable as I am, I couldnt see myself going to my usual stylist, sitting around all day just to get my hair done. I also live in Jersey and most salons out here do regular weaves and not very good. I was looking for a new type of weave. The stylist was dominican just like me, she came out my house for the first meeting to choose my hair. She then came back 2 days later to do the hair which she order for me. The brazilian is what I got and I am very pleased. I enjoyed her company very much and getting my hair done really lifted my spirits. I will recommend this place to others.

Pros: The stylist came to my home, spoke spanish and knew aot about different types of weaves

Cons: None! It was a great time. The 6 hours went by quickly.

Pros: 500 dollars cheap. more expensive in Europe but they not know how to do good

Cons: None.

This place is pretty cool. I got a sewn in weave for 200.00. If wasn't bumpy and it was cut very well. I was a little nervous when it wasn't cut with a scissor, but with a razor. The style came out really natural looking and flowing. I was presently suprised, since I have never had a weave cut with a razor. I will never let anyone cut my weave with a scissor again. My head wasn't throbbing at the end, and it lasted. I will go back to this place. Parking is pretty bad, it took me a half an hour to find a parking spot. Otherwise it was a good time.

Cons: Parking was difficult

Its maybe 10 minutes from my office in midtown. For me that means alot. I go after work, and I even can go early mornings. My hair cost me 500.00, hair was included. They work very fast. Had my hair done by two people. My hair has been in for 3 months. The girl who does my hair isn't the most sociable person but she knows what she is doing. They have a dominican girl there who roller sets and will blowdry you out, or if you are in a rush you can have it flat ironed. They are always busy, I walked in ithout an appointment and had to walk righ back out, there was a LONG wait.

this is the most un professional place i have every been to in my life. they dont care about your hair just your money and full of untrained stylists. (the website is a complete lie.)
i got a relaxer done there by a questionable woman who did not know what she was doing and then asked me how to do it after she had burned the back of my hair off!!! then proceded to dry my hair with paper towels!!?
i left but i still needed my hair done because i had made a deposit. i was lied to about the fusion method being performed on my hair. (the cheap hair may i add, which seems to be worth $1000)
a week after going there half the extensions was gone. a month after the extensions and my real hair was gone. i am left with exactly half of what i started with.
do not go here. you will regret it for monthes to come.

I Have been to many other places, mhn, to name one which were very expensive and a waste of time. They wanted 1000.00 to glue a wig to my head that would probably only take 5 minutes. They also had these people that seem like telemarkers or car salesman trying to get you to do it. I went to this place because they do so many types of weaves, at mhn, they had 3 options and i didnt like any of them, plus their hair was really silky and mine is not(I am black). This place did a great job on my hair, and they didnt try to force me into anything like mhn. They really listened to what i wanted, and the girl was not afraid to tell me what wouldn't work for my hair. She was a little blunt but i am glad she was because looking back that hair would not have worked with my hair AT ALL! It took 2 full days.. 7 hours on wednesday and 8 hours on thursday. My hair was done a few strands at a time. The stylist barely took any breaks, and my hair looks flawess. I traveled all the way from philly, I was reluctant at first but they have NO OPTIONS out here for weaves. They just braid your hair straight back and sew on the track with double tracks and it is always lumpy. I paid 900.00 but for 2 days of work i think that's not bad at all. My initial appointment was 20 minutes just to pick out the hair and decide what i wanted to do I came back the next day and got it done. I liked the fact that it is a private place, not like salons back home where people are watching you through the window while you get your hair done. It was well worth the drive.

I really like my hair.... my hair is thin and it is really hard to cover tracks. These girls did a great job. This place is not an african hair braiding salon and not the ritz carlton. It cost me 600.00 where I have been quoted over a thousand for the quality of hair I wanted. I am very happy with what I got done, I was late and they still took me. Another lady was an hour late and she was rescheduled.. Praise god i got my hair done well!!!! i have been in New York for 2 years and have been hard pressed to find someone who can make my hair look real. For those of us with thin hair you know how hard that is.

THE WEBSITE IS VERY IMPRESSIVE WHICH MAKES YOU BELIEVE THAT THIS IS A VERY EXCLUSIVE AND NICE PLACE. WHEN I GOT THERE I WAS QUITE SURPRISE TO NOTICE THAT THE PLACE LOOKED LIKE A DUMP. NOT ONLY THAT I PAID 850 TO GET MY HAIR DONE USING THE FUSION METHOD. TRUST ME I WISH I HAD PAID ATTENTION TO THE FIRST REVIEW CAUSE SHE IS RIGHT THE HAIR LOOKS VERY FAKE WHICH I MAY ADD I PAID TWO HUNDRED AND CHANGE FOR. MY HAIR LOOKS POORLY DONE I WILL NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE TO ANYONE. THEIR WEBSITE IS A HUGE LIE AND MY HAIR LOOKS NOTHING LIKE THE GIRLS ON IT. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME

So the website looks a little cheesy, what with the misspellings andd disorganization, so I should have been warned before I even went.

After making my required deposit online (it's a SCAM!) and showing up for my appointment, I had to wait in the cold outside of the locked building for over an hour. Why, you ask? My stylist couldn't make it. Upon finally entering the building, a very unfriendly stylist who looked like her hair had been attached to her head with Elmer's Glue proceeded to "help", also known as showing me the gross, cheap hair they have available for weaving and totaling my cost--over 1000 dollars (ridiculous for the quality of what they offer) and the process would take over 8 hours.

I gladly left. Yeah, they kept my deposit (they don't refund them under ANY circumstances) but I left knowing not to go back and am passing the news along to you. DON'T DO IT! Complete and total ripoff.
