DON'T EVER GO WITH THIS COMPANY, AND AVOID THEM THROUGH UNITED MOVING! I'm still waiting for my stuff to be delivered to DC from Oakland. And I was just told because I wasn't able to receive it (because I'm out of town for work), that I'd have to wait 16 more days to get it and pay more than $ 1000 more in charges for it to be stored and redelivered!!!!!!!!!! UNBELIEVABLE!

I never received an email, although I was told that it was sent by Cheryl there, that stated my stuff would be there sometime between the 12-15th. When I spoke with her, I was told that contractually I was expected to be ready to receive my delivery any day between 7 and 20 days, and all they had to do was give 24 hour notice of when they would deliver (oh well gee thanks, I forgot there was thing called a J-O-B! that many folks have and would have to make arrangements to get out of for a delivery!). I was even told, "Well you even got 48 hours notice!"

DISGUSTINGLY HORRIBLE customer service that leaves customers with no options and paying more. You suck Chipman!

I decided to go with this company because they were so friendly on the phone. So I was confident that they would do a good job in helping me move. I though it would be easy for them since I'm moving within the same apartment complex, a couple buildings down. Three movers came and they were friendly but liked to talk amongst each other. I was scheduled for 4 hours and they went a half an hour over. Every time I went to check on how things were going they were either standing around talking to each other or talking on the phone. They could tell I was getting frustrated so they said that since I contractually agreed to only 4 hours that's all I was obligated to pay. Then right before leaving, one mover asked to use the spare restroom, I walked in there later after they had left and there was pee everywhere on the toilet and all over the floor!! It's gross. I would NOT call this company for any future moves.

We relocated from Novato, California to Melbourne, Australia March 2007. CHIPMAN RELOCATIONS came and did a survey of our goods to be shipped. At this point I was unsure as to take a very large mirror. The CHIPMAN rep told me not to worry that it would be crated up and would ship just fine. Not the case. The mirror was wrapped in only paper and corrugated cardboard. Of course the mirror was smashed. They broke the arms off end dining chairs, smashed bedside table, feet missing (never to be found) off another chair, broke the claw foot off kitchen table. As well as many other breakages. These were not the result of accidental breakages but of poor packing by CHIPMAN RELOCATIONS. The packers also packed small boxes inside larger ones so when we tried to do an inventory at the destination, it was impossible to know what was there and what wasn't. Even though we did not take with us a lot of the things that were included in the original survey, they still way underestimated and sent the wrong size shipping container, not enough boxes or wardrobe boxes. My house is VERY neat and the survey was easy to do! When I tried to claim on insurance I was told by Ms TRUJILLO of CHIPMAN that the insurance covered was not by the item but by the weight and they estimate that the mirror weighed a particular amount and the chairs etc. They offered me a settlement of $150.00!!! Needless to say I will not be accepting this and will be pursuing the matter as it was solely through CHIPMAN'S negligence.

This was my 5th local move and it went beautifully. Chipman fullfilled each aspect of the move that they had sold and the crew was amazing. They arrived on time in uniform were polite, carefull, can knowledgable. I have never had such an easy move. The Sales rep Kristin also helped in advising us what we needed to do to prepare for the move. Her presenation was great she was understanding of the stress that moving presented and helped us work through it.

DO NOT CALL CHIPMAN or UNITED VAN LINES!!! I recently hired them to move my family in Berkeley. It all started out ok. A sales consultant named Norm came by the house 2 weeks before to inspect our old house to estimate the size of truck needed and number of movers needed. The last thing Norm said to us as he left was "Don't worry. We'll take care of everything." Famous last words...

On the day of the move, which was scheduled for 9am, we got an 8:30am call from an admin assistant with no authority to make any decisions. She called to inform us that "we were not in the system" and that a truck was not going to be available to move us today! This was 30 minutes before they were supposed to arrive! All she did was apologize and offer to move us the next day or if we're "lucky," a crew may finish early and come by later. That's it?!?!?

No offer of another moving company that could jump in?!? I thought United Van Lines was a huge operation!?! No offer of any financial compensation for the inconvenience!?! Not even the decency to put us in contact with a Manager? We had to insist that a manager call us back since Norm (our sales guy) wasn't reachable either! It took over 6 hours for a manager to call us back. Even then, all we got was an apology and that they'd move us tomorrow.

They made it sound like it was just a small mishap. But you'd expect movers to realize how big of an emotional and physical ordeal for people to move is. We are a family of 4 (with 2 little boys). Everything was packed, beds disassembled, food and other supplies were packed! It's not like I was a college kid with no furniture and was fine sleeping in a sleeping bag for one more night!

So, if you like the idea of moving on the ACTUAL DAY AND TIME you plan to move, do NOT call CHIPMAN!!!
