Legends sucks Its time to hang up the cleats Gene

by J H.

IF I can stop one person from wasting their hard earned money at this dump, this review has done it job. The service is beyond terrible wait a long time 15 min to get drinks and waitress is not friendly, guess it because the owner is an idiot. Manager is an immature girl whos last job was probably scooping ice cream. Bouncer was a 19 year old punk who actually kicked me out for asking him to change the channel back to the ncaa tourney game i was watching, with 6 min to go changed to world baseball. It just was like something out of twillight zone what ever happend to smiles on waitresses, managers, and nice bouncers this is not downtown long beack this is belmont shore, the talk around town is so bad about this place I dont feel a bit sorry for the owner he is very rude and it seems his time is up in the restaurant business. There are only so many Willie Mcguinest who can invest in a dump like this. Wish John Morris was back to owner of this place, he supports the city and his staff likes him and it definately shows. Never heard of anyone at Smooth getting kicked out for asking to watch to last 6 min of game that was on the same TV for most of the game.

one of the best places to watch a game

by Gavin M. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 9,773

great place to watch a game, good atmosphere, a lot more open and clean since they reopened after the fire. food is ok for a sports bar, the main reason to come here is for the tv's, the multiple games and to be with plenty of fans who are into the game

Bar and restaurant

by Deborah r. | insider Insider | Rank: 28,799

Typical sports bar, glad to have it back in action after the fire. Great for watching the game, young crowd. Pub food is good, pretty big place and good people watching as it's right on 2nd street with big open doors and windows that open out onto 2nd.

Historic Sports Bar

by Mindy M. | insider_guru Insider Guru | Rank: 544

This is a great Sports Bar in a great location - the heart of Belmont Shore. It is large with multiple large screens to watch any event. The food is outstanding with a huge menu. From appetizers to a full meal - it is all great. One of my favorites, the San Diego Chicken Sandwich: chicken, cheddar, bacon, and avocado on sourdough - what's not to love!

Worst bar I have ever been to Disgrace to Long Beach

by johnnylb

The only decent reviews this dump gets is from its own employees and the owner. I had a terrible experince called the owner he hung up the phone on me and after reading reviews here and other sites such as yelp it was all confirmed. The very long wait for drinks 20 min long wait for food 45 min attitude service and on top of it all was watching ncaa tourney with 6 min to go they change channel and threaten to kick you out if you ask to change channel. The bouncer was a 19 year old punk and the manager was an immature girl with plenty of bad attitude. Guess if you work for a scumbag owner it shows. Spend your hard earned money somewhere else. I live in the shore and everyone I have talked to about this dump agrees, it is terrible looks like when they actually get people in for the game they are from the 909 area code. I recommend Rileys or Murphys

Pros: there are none

Cons: bad owner, manager, service, bouncer, bad food ripoff

Please Read This Before Going To Legends

by distrix

First off I'd like everyone to know I don't write reviews for nothing, but if this stops just one person from going or returning it will make me happy. This is my story of "Legends Sports Bar"

Me and two of my very good friends walk to legends on Jan 12, 2009. We go there to watch the Pit Steelers VS SD Chargers. We are all Pit fans so we wanted to be loud and have a good time. So you would think a "Sports Bar" would be the place to go right? Wrong! We walk in and ask for a table for 3. They have 5 booths open in plain sight and they said we only have standing room upstairs. I asked about a booth, and they said you need at least 4 people for a booth. I then told them that the three of us were ready to spend over 100.00 was there anything they could do? She said no. So we looked around and found two dirty tables and sat in them. she comes over and said we cant put two tables together because its two different waitresses tables. So we talked to both waitresses and they had no problems with it and let us do it. So we are there during the game and at legends they wont let you get up and high five, they wont let you wave a terrible towel, they wont let you jump for a great play. Actually they warned us if we did any of this again we would be removed from the establishment. So 10 minutes later a manager came to me with his waitress and said.. he is cut off. I had a total of 2 beers (bud light). Then someone throws ice at my buddy and they kick my friend out for it. My other two friends had a total of 5 rum and cokes and a shot each. We all went in on an appetizer. So how much was our bill? $195.00

Itemized
5 budlight
20 rum and cokes
2 shots
1 appetizer
tip included.

They double charged us for everything but shots and appetizer!

So we are looking for a new place that will take our money from now on because Legends is for people who are with kids, or who are 90 years old.. Not for sports fans.

Pros: good area

Cons: Food - Pricing - Staff -

Fun bar!

by JennerJ

This is my favorite bar in belmont shore. Fun for watching sports and their burgers are good too. I have only been a few times because I just moved to the area but this place and murphy's Pub are the best for watching NFL.

Pros: sports

Cons: over packed sometimes

Misstatement on Pouring Spouts

by Wingman5236

Not much of a Bartender if you can't tell the difference between a common pouring spout and one that monitors or controls pouring. We always appreciate input from patrons whether it is favorable or not, but would at least appreciate being accurate in your comments.

Pros: Great selection of food, friendly staff, best tv sports viewing around.

Cons: Service can be slower on big games

SWEET SUBS and TASTY GERMAN Beer to pour away the Laker Loss ;(

by laker247

I love this place. It was quite depressing to watch the Lakers get pounded on by the Celtics in Game 6, but the food and the beer helped the misery go away. I love this joint, great service, amazing selection of beers and awesome food.

Pros: Awesome BEER, Lots of High Quality TV's

Cons: Took along time to get seated because of the big Laker game

BIG BROTHER

by BARGOD

I went into Legends this past Sunday for the Laker game, and noticed something weird about the pour spouts on there bottles, I asked the bartender to see it, and he showed me what is a microchip pour spout to regulate there pours, I being a local bartender couldn't help but laugh. Big Brother can stay out of my bar. As a seasoned bartender I can assure you that occassionally topping off a drink for a good customer only maximizes profits. Patrons stay longer, spend more & come back. If a certain bartender is over pouring to attempt to maximize his or her tips, the other bartenders WILL report it because it puts them in the position of having to explain why they too have to ask the manager for another bottle of brand X booze even though they have only sold a minimal amount from the last bottle. Customers will quickly avoid bars that use this technology, bartenders will go elsewhere & naive owners who over invested in this mistrustful technology will go bankrupt trying to pay for it. Why would I want to work for someone who ? assumes ? I?m untrustworthy?

Go For the Games, Not the Food!

by chesbeau

The rebulit Legends may be refreshingly new, but their food offerings are old and uninspired. Unfortunately our outing on 2nd Street was spoiled by slow service, dreadful food and surprisingly flat beer.

My sandwich bread was stale; my cup of soup was floating with several pieces of boiled vegetables (left-overs that reminded me of hospital cafeteria food) in brown, salty broth. How wrong can one go with vegetable soup? Management replied that they use only "fresh bread and not left-overs." Lucilles is much more appealing.

Pros: People watching; abundent TV screens; Lucille's Barbeque is close by.

Cons: Dreadful food; unattentive if not poor wait staff

Electricity throughout...

by BelmontBandit

I want you to know that going to a busy bar can be a little trying. Yes it gets hot, yes it may take a little while to get a drink. I read all these reviews on here and it breaks my heart that people are so impatient. Legends has been a landmark in Los Angeles/Long Beach since 1979. When you go in there and are watching a game with almost three hundred other people, you can almost expect certain things. It isn't a fine dining restaurant here folks, it's a SPORTS BAR! A busy one at that. When I go to a sporting event, (Laker/Dodger/King game) I know there are going to be crowds and long lines... Par for the course. I just wish people would keep in mind that Legends has and always will be about atmosphere. Anyone who has ever been to a sporting event during the playoffs knows that electricity that flows through the place. That's why Legends is what it is. It's a place local southern Californians can congregate and feel a sense of camaraderie. The oohs and aahs are enough to keep me coming back again and again. If it doesn't work out for you the first time, try it again. I promise you'll change your mind. The place wouldn't have made since 1979 if it weren't doing something right. The unfortunate fact remains that people will always be quicker to gripe than they will be to compliment anything. That said, I'll see you all down at the GREATEST sports bar in Los Angeles!

Pros: The next best thing aside from actually being at the big game...

Cons: Gets a little cramped, but then again, so do the stadiums/arenas we all love so much!

Legends?.. More like Nightmares!

by ralleykat

I'm not one to write reviews but my experience at Legends was so nasty I want everyone to know. Rude service, even ruder bouncers and the rudest manager I have ever met in my entire life... and trust me, I've been to plenty of Hollywood bars. I have an idea... how about me and 20 friends give you our money so that you can tell us that you don't care! Hmm... whatever happened to Great service... hech, i'd even settle for GOOD service All in all, Legends should be renamed... Nightmares. Oh... lastly... i saw a nasty-ass cooca rocha in the kitchen on my way to the bathroom... ech!

Pros: Location

Cons: everything

Trash

by jglau78

I went to "Legends" this past weekend for the first time and was not happy. There's plenty of other bars in Long Beach that is way better then this.

Trashy women, trashy men and bad service. Thought the LBC was better then this. Enough said...

Pros: if you want trashy people and bad service then go to legends

Cons: everything

I thought you had to be 21 to get into a bar?

by katwomanne

One word: Gross.

This past weekend was one of the hottest on record. Why close the patio doors and lock all the heat in? The thing that mystifies me is I looked up at the ceiling and there are ceiling fans. How many were turned on? Zero. It was unbearably hot in there. And what happens when it's hot and people are drinking? It starts to smell. Badly.

I get it that Belmont Shores probably has a huge college popluation that floods 2nd street on a Saturday night. However, the bar was full of the skankiest girls that I have ever seen...the type that are obviously not over 21 and can barely fill out the little bandeau tops they are wearing. You know the ones that pretend to "like girls" so that the boys will look at them. Heavy black eyeliner a must.
If you are a guy, you must smoke, have tats and still be buying into the trucker hat phase.

When we walked out there was a line which I was not sure really why. You ever leave a bar and look at the people in line and think "maybe I shouldn't leave?" Yea, wasn't the case here. It was a sigh of relief.

There were no paper towels in the bathroom, we had two tables and there are no waitresses so you have to go to the bar to get drinks. There is also no one clearing the empty glasses so the table quickly fills with the empties are you churning out just to deal with the situation.

I still can't get over how gross the people were. Ladies, just because it was cheap at Forever 21 doesn't mean it looks good on you.

Pros: lots of tv's

Cons: gross people, really hot inside, no wait staff for bar tables

Horrible Guest Service / Poor Management

by bBitz

We had a large group of friends get together for someone's birthday this past Saturday night. About 25 of us were inside and at one point a few of us stepped outside to get fresh air (it gets really stuffy in there) and some to smoke. The bouncer gave us a nod as we stepped out - and he saw us do so.
When we went to go back in 10 minutes later, the bouncer stopped us and told us they weren't letting people in and that we had to wait in the long line that had now formed. We reminded him that we were part of the large birthday party and had already been inside for 2 hours. He said there was no way to prove that and refused to let us back in.
When our friend who was celebrating her birthday came over to the door to speak to the bouncer - he shrugged her off and refused to help. He then let a group of young girls parade in ahead of us. When we spoke to the manager/owner, he said "talk to the bouncer". When we replied "So you really don't care do you?" the manager laughed back "Nope! I really DON'T care!"
This might be service I'd expect at a pushy/crappy Hollywood bar - but not at a bar on 2nd street in Long Beach. It was sad how little the manager/owner cared.

Cons: BAD SERVICE

Disgusting

by samibeth

Hey! If you like rude bouncers/managers, 19 year olds, and the smells of a frat house, this bar is for you! We went with an open mind and left with a heavy heart. This place was one of the worst bars ever... oh, but at least it was really crowded and sweaty with no A/C! Thanks for making Long Beach a place I never want to come back to, Legends!!!!!

Pros: Um....

Cons: mean staff, gross patrons, smelly

Best Drinking Spot on Second Street

by touche386

I have to say that generally the second street scene is a little cramped and dirty.......but Legends was a great place to relax......watch the game.....drink (obviously)......and eat some good food. It s bar .......so dont expect too much out of the food......but the shrimp tacos were to DIE for......and the portions are huge. I will definitely be back.

Pros: tons of TV's, good shrimp tacos, room to move (VS. most other 2nd st. holes in the wall)

Cons: bar area is kind of small

fire

by longbeach90803

Unfortunately today Legends burned completely to the ground. The other reviewers had a some good points. The food wasn't the best but if you were a regular you're going to miss the place. The waitresses were great and always had time to sit and ask how your day was. You went for the atmosphere and some drinks not for the food. A true loss for Belmont Shore.

"Whatever happened to" Legends

by jrcaesar

Legends used to be a great place to go to grab a brew, a sandwich or burger, and watch some games. But it just hasn't been the same since the fire: Waitresses have more attitude, food's not quite as good. Maybe I'm just getting older ...

Pros: Many TV screens, Wings

Cons: Inconsistent service
