When Brio 89 first opened, some friends and I went in to check it out. We were promptly greeted and went to the bar. The first thing we noticed was how nice the staff was and how excited they all seemed to be. After looking at an extensive wine list, the bartender offered to pour us a few samples. We sat at a table soon after and had a great meal. We all ordered pasta dishes and they were really good. The desserts were also fantastic- I recommend their chocolate cake. If you are looking for a friendly, warm environment with great comfort food, I highly recommend this place!

What a wonderful place! The food is out of this world! I ordered the sirloin steak with the shoestring fries and it was delicious... perfect! My friend ordered the two side dishes which was the polenta (unbelievable!) and the sauteed mushrooms and zucchini! Of course we ended up sharing everything and left satisfied.
The list of wines is great too. Will be going back!

I had a fantastic special the other night. The dish was with grilled chicken, eggplant, cherry tomatoes and arugula and what a treat it was!! Cooked just right and what a mix of flavor for the taste buds!! Will go back to enjoy the food and see what other specials they will delight us with!

I am a very picky eater, so when I saw Gnocchi on the menu - I had to try it. What a wonderful surprise - it tasted like what my mother use to make... The Gnoochi just melted in your mouth!! The portion was just the right amount too and they didn't smother it in sauce like some other places. Very nice place too, not overly decorated.

The ambience is great and so is the food. The wine list is amazing. I went there the other day and saw that the food was beautifully served. The amount of garlic that is put in the food is just the right amount.

walking down 2nd avenue found this really nice place... it was a bit crowded but we were able to get two seats at the bar... the bartendar was very helpful... we ordered a lot of the appetizers - two of our favorites was the rosemary goat cheese and the cured prosciutto... there is so much wine to chose from we will have to go back again and again and again....

What a great winebar! So many wines to chose from and the menu has many delights to indulge your tastebuds - the veal meatballs are delicious and the gnocchi was so filling.

Exceptional place! Exactly what the UES needed. Food was great and came out fast! There is a large selection of wines to chose from too. Only problem is it gets crowded fast, but is worth the wait.

What a cool place - the decor is warm and inviting. The hostess was very nice and our waiter was very attentive. The food was good ~ and the pomegranate martini was to die for... very affordable too. Parking can be sticky but you'll find a spot...

I went there for dinner a coupple of weeks ago and decided to give it another try, since the first time I thought it was a joke that such a young, unexperienced guy would be in charge of the whole place... This time was even worse. I've worked in the wine industry for over 30 years and was very excited they opened a new wine bar in the upper east side.. the wine list was quite remarkable, but like the first time I was there, the manager came to our table suggesting some wine that had nothing to do with what we were eating and after I asked him a coupple of questions about the wines on the list, I realized that he had absolutely no idea! No knoweledge once so ever about it and kept trying to fool us making up riciculous stuff about wines! That really did it for me, never going back there!

I stopped in for a drink after work and was excited by the decor. I thought just what the UES needs. Loved the tasty fried squash they serve with your drink. But I was never asked if I would like another drink nor could I get the bartender to acknowledge us. The manager was running around talking to his staff about personal issues instead of paying attention to the clients. Finally after 20 minutes my boyfriend got the bartenders attention and we got the check.
I would have had another drink if I had been asked earlier.
Also the lighting was terrible. It was so brite and when they finally dimmed the lights they dropped that abruptly.

Dining room is simply chic and has an intimate feel. The music tends to be a bit loud though. The food was exceptional and the prices are reasonable. A lot of wine to choose from but they also make great mixed drinks - the apple martini is a good choice.

Just what the UES needed! This place is truly a nice change of pace. It is classy and chic and the selection of wine is superb. Went there with friends and we all shared something from the menu. We loved the crostino with goat cheese, the combination meat and cheese dish and the rice dish stuffed with cheese. Service was great and it's very reasonable on the wallet! Will definitely be going back.

Great place for a relaxing evening with friends. The atomosphere is calm and the place is very chic. You don't spend a fortune here like in some other places and the food is exceptional! I especially loved the calamari and zucchini dish and the sedona salad. Also, there is an array of wines for wine lovers!
Will always recommend this place!

Went there recently for a friend's 30th birthday. The service was good but the food was shite. The chicken and pork dishes were completely overcooked and dry. The linguini was terrible as well. None of us were satisfied with our meal. They also brought out a little chocolate soufle for my buddy's birthday, but then charged us for it...thought that was kinda cheap considering the bill was close to $500.

if it werent for the lovely cheeses offered here I would never return. the service (now 2 times) has been horrible. we sat down last night as one of two parties in the whole place and were not introduced to waiter until we sat 20 minutes. 3 of 4 wines we asked for were not available. finally, after a good meal, we sat for another 20 minutes for waiter to bring check. all in all 2 bad experiences with the service but again, great food. if you arent in a rush- perfect cheese and vino spot. nice decor, too- just too sloww for us. (totalling 2.5 hours)

Brio 89 is a jewel that cant be missed. Outstanding food, atmosphere and service as well as stellar design make Brio 89 my new favorite hangout. The long bar accomodates enough patrons to socialize and they have an excellent wine list so if you only want drinks or drinks with a few appetizers this is the place to go.

Good food however run very poorly. Young man in suit screaming at employees on the floor, understaffed and untrained staff, however friendly and competent bartender.

We decided to try this place out. The ambience is nice and it used to be a couple of other places so when it opened up and looked nice, my girlfriend and I thought it would be great to try it.
The waitress although very nice, was pretty un-informed about the menu.
I got a pasta dish with hazelnut sauce. NOt in my defense i thought it was rendered down hazelnuts in the sauce but when they brought it over it was basically 2 bags of hazelnuts drenche in butter over the pasta. I couldn't even finsih the food and my girlfriend got nauseous from one bite.
We went home ordered a pizza.

We had heard good things about this place from our friends and decided to check it out for ourselves. The food is delicious and the wine selection very impressive. We started with the meat and cheese plate, the traditional crostino and the veal meatballs, which were all superb. The owner/manager was very friendly and happy to recommend a bottle of wine. I had the rollatino di pollo, which was perfectly cooked and full of flavor. My friends enjoyed the risotto and the gnocchi. For dessert, we had the cheesecake and the tiramisu. The service was exceptional and the owner even sat down at our table to make sure we were enjoying our experience. Brio 89 has a modern, lounge-like atmosphere and it would also be a great place to go out for drinks. I plan to go back again real soon.

As young professional and former waitress at an exceptional small Italian family restaurant in downtown Boston, I was extremely impressed with Brio 89. Friendly coat check at the door, well-chosen and not too-loud music, clean dining room with modern decor and polite, helpful wait staff. There was an extensive, affordable wine list featuring Italian wines by region, many of which I have never seen in a restaurant before. The bottle my friends and I enjoyed, which was recommended by the welcoming manager and owner was wonderful - I am currently in search of it in retail stores! I enjoyed the tomato crostino as an appetizer and the gnocchi for dinner. The food was freshly made, delivered piping hot with delicious melt-in-your-mouth flavor. The Tiramisu was excellent for dessert! This is by far my favorite Italian restaurant in Manhattan and I am looking forward to my next visit already - less than a week later!

I've been going frequently to this place since it opened because the food is delicious, the service for the restaurant and for the bar is really good and the wine selection is excellent! The Pappardelle was by far the best I ever tasted! However, more than once I felt digusted at how harshly the young manager treated the employees in public... Other than that, great place to go!

I live in the neighborhood and for whatever reason every restaurant that has been in this spot fails. I was happy to see a wine bar, and surprised that they had a full menu that was extremely affordable. The space is nice and welcoming, and the wine selection top notch. I was especially impressed by the fresh mozzarella. But the entrees ... sigh. Myself and six friends all tried different things and they were not good. Very bland and tasteless. I would never come back for dinner, but I would come back for a glass of wine with a friend.
