Pros: good service

Cons: food has lost something

We tried this new restaurant shortly after it opened. When we arrived 3-4 other groups did also.
We noticed other people leaving just after they sat down. After looking at tthe menu we saw why. The prices were well beyond what others
were charging. The food was ok, not great. The portions were average - but small for the price. There was nothing outstanding about the preparation. We have never gone back because we felt gouged with the pricing. I feel sure that a few of the employees / managers / owners are making pompous / overly positive reviews here. You can spot them by the 5 star rating!!

Pros: Wait staff was attentive

Cons: Price Price Price - and only fair food at that.

LOOKS LIKE I WASN'T THE ONLY CUSTOMER THAT WAS UNIMPRESSED - THEY ARE CLOSED.

This is an average restaurant. Steaks are OK but nothing special. Service is OK, but not attentive. In short - we were not impressed and there is nothing about the experience that would make us want to return.

Cons: Indifferent food and service

My family has been frequenting Bentley's for dinner for the past year. We love the service, especially the male staff, and the steaks and fish are great. No waiting in line, and I don't know why. Chain restaurants you will wait for an hour with a bad dining experiance waiting at the end for you. Recently we went for Sunday brunch. It was reasonably priced but the food was horrible. Also, we went to the bar before we sat down for some bloddy mary's and the bartender was completely unprofessional for a semi-fine dining restaurant. In the end the dinner's are great but avoid the brunch.

My wife and I have been to Bentley's several times. We liked going at first because the food was very good, the service was very good, and it wasn't crowded so we could get a table on a weekend night without waiting. The last few times we've gone, though, the food has not been prepared as well. The last two times I got salmon and mahi mahi dishes and the fish was overcooked both times. The asparagas this last time was so overcooked it was like mush and my knife literally fell through it when I went to cut it. The quality of the food doesn't seem to have gone down any, but the preparation has been a disappointment. I hope they're able to return to the quality we first experienced.

We went there for my husband's birthday. It was a party of 8, the waiter was really on top of things and very attentive.
Importantly, the food was exceptional! We have been in the Triangle area for a year now and we have been rather disappointed with most of our dining experiences here. I was a little unsure about Bentley's at first and figured it would be a "steak" place. I was pleasantly surprised that the food had the "fusion-y" feel that you associate with big city restaurants. Even our vegetarian friends thoroughly enjoyed the limited vegetarian options there are.
I highly recommend their steaks (of course) and risotto!

We went to Bentley's for the first time last night. We had a reservation for dinner at 7:00 on a Saturday night and when we pulled into the parking lot, it was practically empty. We got nervous, thinking this was a bad sign, but were starving so we decided to go in and eat there anyway. I am glad we did! The hostess at the front was very welcoming and showed us to our table right away. The waitress come over quite quickly to get our drink order. We ordered the stuffed banana peppers for appetizers, they were delicious. I had the filet mignon and my husband ordered a grilled chicken salad. The filet, which I ordered medium-well, was cooked PERFECTLY. I have been to much nicer/fancier restaurants where a steak ordered medium-well comes out medium and it has to be sent back. So, overall the food was very tasty. Overall the service was great, our waitress was very attentive to our needs and came by to ask if we needed refills on anything multiple times. By the time we paid the check, we noticed the dining room had filled up and they were really quite busy. I recommend you give this place a try!

We went here for a valentine's dinner in February of 2009. I believe they have dropped their prices, but the food quality was the same you would get at any local alehouse or chain restaurant. I had the Mediterranean salad, my husband got the ribeye. Ribeye came with a potato gratin that wasn't anything special, could have been betty crocker out of a box, and three or four asparagus spears. The asparagus spears were quite large, nothing fancy, just steamed asparagus. He did say the ribeye was a good steak. My salad was good, but again, nothing to write home about. I expected more from this upscale restaurant. Our server was terrible. She didn't tell us the specials that I found about after we had ordered from another server, didn't offer us more wine, and seemed clueless when I asked specifics about a vegetarian dish (actually, she pretty much said it was a weird combination and she didn't like it). Instead of offering us a dessert menu, she just brought us the check after our plates were cleared. I had to ask her for the dessert menu. I ordered the creme brulee, which she then told me was chocolate (would have been nice to know when she brought us the menu) so we ordered the new york style cheesecake. The menu said it would come with a Kahlua sauce but it came out with raspberry sauce instead, which again would have been nice to know. She dropped our check off with the dessert plate. This is not the type of service I would expect from a restaurant like bentley's. So, if you want chili's or any other chain type food and service, with a better atmosphere, bentley's is fine, but don't get your hopes up like I did of having a nicer dining experience.

I went to this restaurant, we were seated by an unfriendly hostess who said nothing. Then, when we were finally greeted by the waitress, we had to ask her for a menu. Then she proceeded to tell us that they were only serving brunch, so I told her we didn't realize that, it was our FIRST visit. You think this would change her attitude and she would tell us about the restaurant and about what was being served at brunch, or maybe the price... but NO! She walked away. We went to the brunch area, and there was hardly any food, the set up was horrible, and we barely ate anything. When we got our bill, we were shocked to find out how much brunch was, OVERPRICED! Don't bother going there for brunch.

If you havent checked out Bentley's yet, you don't know what you are missing. Great steaks and seafood with an incredible wine and martini list. $5 apps in the bar throughout the week is what brought me there the first time, now I am a frequent visitor.

Took my parents to Bentleys for Father's Day dinner. It couldn't have been more perfect. Our server was great and explained all of the dishes to us. He knew what was spicy and helped my mom find a dish that worked with her dietary needs. The chef was very nice to prepare her food with no butter or salt. The food was wonderful and it was way better than grilling a big steak for my father in the back yard. They even cut a larger than normal steak for him. We will be going back!

My husband and I go out to eat all the time and tonight we had the best meal at Bentleys. They weren't very busy when we sat down. The bar seemed to be a little crowed with people our age, but there were only four other tables sat in the dining area. The server was pleasant and seemed to enjoy working there. The salads came and we knew we were in for a treat. They were unbeleivable. Not the typical lettuce, tomato, and onion that everyone pushes at you these days.

The server talked my husband into getting the NY Strip with a script about aged steaks. He did sound like this was a required drill when describing the steaks. I had the Mahi with some sort of fruit salsa, very nice. The dining room was fairly full when we left, but it was nice not having to wait in line to get a table in one of the all to common generic places with identical menus.

Had dinner there with my wife Saturday before Mothers Day. They were pretty busy, but the staff took care of our every need. I like not having to ask for everything and Heather anticipated our needs and was there when we needed her. I had the Filet, which was cooked perfectly with just the right seasoning, and my wife had the Cajun Tuna. She gets it everytime we go there and loves it. We showed up without a reservation and they worked us in, even though it was busy. Had just enough time to enjoy a couple of cocktails before being seated. Bentleys is one of our favorite spots and we highly recommend it.

We visited Bentley's on Mother's Day. The service was average and the atmosphere was nice. The waitress insisted on filling my glass with water without even asking my wife if she needed or wanted a refill. I orderd the Walnut shrimp, my wife and mother ordered the Scallop something meal while my kids ordered burgers. When the entres arrived I wanted to laugh. It looked as if we ordered appetizers. The portions were extremely small. There were 6 medium size shrimp and a laddle of rice with my meal and my wife and mother had the pleasure of enjoying 4 medium size scallops with a laddle of rice. The $11.00 burgers we big, meaty and tasted pretty good but, the stringy parmesean fries were not very impressive. When I left the restaurant I went home and ate dinner. I will never go to Bentley's again unless, of course, if someone else is paying.

Bentley has a very intimate atmosphere, the food is good but a little pricey for the quality. The bar menu is awesome just ask their bartender Greg to whip you up a martini. They are some of the best in the triangle. This would be a great place to take a date, but leave the kids at home. I had some pasta that was a little bland in flavor, but my boyfriend had the tuna steak and it was very tasty. The wait staff was very friendly, we were seated promptly. Our food was served promptly and it was nice and hot.

I used to live in NYC, so I've been to "21," Per Se, Pierre au Tunnel, etc
The service at Bentley's is generally good, but once I left a $20 bill for a $9.20 sandwich and the lounge waiter asked "if I wanted change."

We had no idea what we were in for tonight. My fiance and I went out for a bite to eat in Cary and decided to try Bentleys as we had not been there before. The restaurant is beautiful and was elegantly light with low amber lighting on every table. Our waitress was an absolute doll and very knowledgeable about the menu. The appetizer and both of our steaks were incredible. Probably the best I've had in Raleigh. I had the filet... I highly recommend it. The food came out quickly and the manager even stopped by to make sure everything was to our liking. We couldn't believe what an awesome little place we had stumbled upon. It's definitely a hidden gem among the customary chain restaurants on Walnut St.

What a gem! Hidden in the mall in front of Target in the old Houlihan's. The ambience is a little stiff for the location on the outside, but inside the doors it's very friendly and inviting. We go for the great deal on drinks and appetizers every afternoon. $10 apps for only $5! The steaks are the finest I've ever had. Better than any others in the area. The Aux Poivre sauce option is unique, slightly sweet and peppery, made with bourbon, not cognac. Other items are a heavenly seabass, excellent lamb chops and other good pastas and seafood. They can cut any size steak you want. They even have a kids menu (rare for a NICE restaurant)and I've never felt put off when we take our children there. I think Bentley's is the best restaurant this side of town. If you lean to Chili's- you probably think it's expensive, but if you ever eat at a downtown 'upscale' restaurant, Bentley's is just as good for a LOT less!

The atmosphere is beautiful and the wait staff wonderful - however - the food is little to be desired. I dined at Bentley's last night with my boyfriend and besides the great service, we were left completely unimpressed. At $121 for only two people, you would really expect a quality seasoned cut of steak, however, my steak was dry and over cooked. Our appetizer was average, and you are only offered one choice for a side item with you meal. Salads are also seperate.

Bottom line, I would not recommend Bentley's. If you are looking for an upscale place that serves amazing steaks and seafood - try the Angus Barn. I'll never go back to Bentley's.

My husband and I went here for dinner last night and were excited for a date night. The atmosphere was awesome, and the service was great. Then the food came, honestly something was just off, the Shrimp dish I got was just tasteless, the polenta was too sweet and the shrimp tasted blah. He had the tuna and was really excited for a sweet dish but it was just plain as well. I was disappointed to pay those prices for something I feel we could have done better ourselves at home.

I have recently dinned at Bentleys with my family. We were a little skeptical of the atmosphere when we went in because we had our younger sons with us and it appeared to be a littly upscale. (It would be a very nice date spot!) When we sat down our server put us at ease. She was a very sweet girl from up north. She was attentative to us and even to the children wich is impressive because usually servers look right past the children. But our kids loved her and she was very patient when they wanted to order themselves. Our glasses were always full and we never had to ask for a thing. We started at her suggestion with the calamari wich was fantastic followed by their special that night wich was scallops and rice. I would strongly recomend both dishes. Our compliments go to the chef, I wish we left room for desert. We plan on dinning again very soon. We also saw that they have a large party room in the back, we are thinking of having a wedding reception there, if we can have that same server of course! Overall, the service was great and the food was too.

We ate at Bentley's tonight and absolutely loved it. The atmosphere was appealing--with just the right amount of lighting and background music. The booths have high enough backs and are situated where it is easy to have intimate conversations without people at neighboring tables interfering. Our waitress did a super job. She was very articulate and easy to understand--and was very attentive to our needs. Our glasses never got below 3/4 full. The food was fabulous. I had a petit filet--which truely melted in my mouth. My husband had New York strip steak cooked to perfection. The asparagus was also a complement to my meal. My husband had the au gratin potatoes--which were simply delicious. The portions were just the right size. To top off the meal, we had mouth-watering desserts. The creme brulle and bread pudding were both worth the calories and the money. When we were walking out of the restaurant the hostesses actually thanked us for coming--what a nice touch. We both commented on our way to the car that we would definitely return to Bentley's. It was a very, very enjoyable evening.

Pros: Food, atmosphere and service

Cons: None

.

My wife and I went on a Saturday night. The parking was good and we were seated immediately. The atmosphere is warm and a little noisy, but not too bad. The service was very good and the server was quite attentive. As others have said, the bread with its olive and sundried tomato butter was excellent. Our appetizer, stuffed banana peppers, was likewise very good. However, the entree's is where the restaurant fell down. Some of the problems were in the recipe, part in the presentation. My wife ordered the Bentleys Chicken. The basic flavor was good, but the basil overpowered the meal. Also, the chicken was served on a large bed of pasta that was not mentioned in the menu. My wife was noting a pasta dish, so this was a surprize when it arrived. I had the Pork Chop Chutney with the Fresh vegetable of the day, what should have been a medley of carrots, zucchini and I forgot the third. What I got was carrots and a couple of pieces of asparagus swimming in the bottom of a bowl/plate topped with the pork chop. The sweet balsamic vinegar was too sweet, and on the carrots it created almost a medicine taste. Since the carrots were on the bottom of the bowl/plate, there was no way to separate the vegetables from the 'sauce'. Will I be back? Probably one more time. The restaurant has some good ideas and flavors and I'm hoping my experience was just an off night from the kithcen.

Pros: Ambience, Service, bread& butter

Cons: entrees

.

Took my honey there for Valentine's last night -- it was excellent. They were giving out roses to all the ladies upon arrival, which was a nice touch. Service was attentive and courteous. We each got a featured entree, she the steak and I the chicken. Both were excellent, although hers was pricey ($38) even for this restaurant. It was redeemed by the fact that you could taste every penny in the dish. We've been here on a few occassions and never been disappointed.

All I can say is WOW! Service was incredible; food was wonderful and the atmosphere is soothing and very romantic. Had the caesar salad (better than any I have had), shrimp & chicken and creme brulee....and fell in love with all three! Can't go wrong dining here but expect a hefty check. Can't wait to go back.

Hats off to Mr. Lou and Chef Alex. This place is really one of the finest places I've dined. My kids were with me and enjoyed their gourmet meals. The ambience is really soothing and we had a nice relaxing night. The restaurant was quite full. We did make reservations for a party of 4. The restaurant was fabulous. Thanks to the entire staff for a great time...We will be telling our friends and returning soon!

We recently dined at Bentley's on a busy Tuesday evening. We were seated promptly. The crabcakes, salad, creme brulee, filet mignon, and everything else we ordered was delicious! Chef Alex gave us a tour of the kitchen, that was an added "treat"! We are glad we chose Bentley's for our birthday celebration...Bentley's is warm, comfortable, and has a gorgeous setting with such an elaborate, tasty dinner. Chef Alex, you are a superb chef and have your kitchen working like clock work! Hats off to you and your fine team. We plan to dine at the Bentley again in the future, and share this dining experience with many of our friends.

I went to Bentley's Restaurant with my wife and a friend of mine for a delicious dinner. We spent about an hour in the bar drinking & thoroughly enjoyed it. We then sat down at our table and from there on, everything we had was no less than perfect. Everyone ordered a steak of one sort or another. The service was also good. You never have to ask for anything. A waiter/waitress is never more than two feet away at any time. Yes, you will pay some fairly high prices, but you will getting the absolute top of the line food. It doesn't get any better than that. Hats off to the Chef! There is an extensive wine colletion, however our waitress didn't have proper knowledge of the wine choices. We WILL BE BACK AT BENTLEY'S!

Excellent all around. My wife and I enjoyed our dining experience at Bentley's. The place is well designed with alot of attention to detail throughout the restaurant. Perfect ambience! Be sure to make reservations, as it is a busy restaurant. We were delighted to read that Chef Alex comes from Pittsburgh, our original home. The best Chefs come from the North and his meal preparation, presentation and style are outstounding. We recommend this restaurant to couples and groups. Excellent, Excellent, Excellent!

My husband and I dined at Bentley's 2 nights ago. We both loved the atmosphere and the beautiful decor. Our waitress was very nice, timely and friendly. The food was the best! I had the shrimp and lobster and my husband had steak. Both meals were impeccable! The Chef should be commended for his unique style and flair...We will recommend this to our friends! Thank you for a wonderful dining experience.

My husband and I recently tried Bentley's and were really surprised by the small portion sizes. He ordered the crab cakes, which were served with 3-4 small pieces of asparagus. We eat out frequently and have been to many of the up scale restaurants in the Triangle and generally the price of the entree seems to correlate with the portion size. This did not appear to be the case at Bentley's. I had the Carolina seafood and pasta dish (3 mussels, 4 clams, several small pieces of fish, 3 jumbo shrimp, 3 scallops) which was a better portion size and less expensive than the crab cakes. Needless to say I shared with my husband. We really enjoyed the atmosphere and service at Bentley's and liked the flavor of the food, but would hesitate to return because of the small portion sizes for the price they charge.

Impeccable service, food was nicely presented. But it was very overpriced and gave VERY small portions. I've eaten at many "gourmet" restaurants and I'm aware that they are not "Claim Jumper" size portions, but this was ridiculous. I ordered a 6oz Filet Mignon that looked closer to 3 oz, with about 1/4 cup of the mushroom risotto. Those who ordered pasta dishes seemed to be pleased, but everyone in my party who ordered a chicken, fish, or steak dish was left hungry. Good thing their bread and butter spread (a mix of roasted red peppers, kalamata olives, and garlic) was so good that we just began devouring them to make up for it. If I want to pay a lot of money for a steak dinner, I'll go to Ruth's Chris. Definitely not going to return unless I plan on making a meal out of their bread and butter.

My boyfriend and I stopped in Bentley's one night to see what it was about. There was such a warm atmosphere and very romantic. The decor was quite interesting and different...very unique. Our waitress was a small blonde girl and from the moment she opened her mouth we knew she was getting over 20 percent!!! She was very sharp and had a vast knowledge of the menu. She spoke the specials menu to us as if it were her first time that night!! She was wonderful!! We had a appetizer and 2 salads!! The steak salad was DELICIOUS!!!! The prices are not bad at all and the food is worth the cost completely!!! We loved it there and will be going back!! I wish I had had room for dessert; the menu looks wonderful!!

From beginning to end, my meal was absolutely delicious. I ordered the soup of the day, cream of carrot. I was curious and skeptical, but from the first spoonful, I was in heaven. I am not quite sure about the review that commented on the bread and butter as unimaginative- it was fantastic! With every bite I was trying to decipher the ingredients in that spread, to no avail. And the bread was obviously homemade. The wine list offers a good selection of by the glass options, I especially like the S. African red with a nice filet. But the coup de grace was definitely the creme brulee. Topped with fresh berries, it was definitely sized to share, but so delicious I finished it alone anyway. The prices were much more reasonable than I had expected with the $$$$ rating from citysearch. I will be dining there again soon.

If you think cookie-cutter food from Outback, Bonefish, and Olive Garden is ?really good?, then you may find Bentley?s more sophisticated selection of food and flavors challenging. But go anyway, and enjoy the salad, swordfish, and especially the desert ? much better than the typical re-warmed fare. Don?t let the ?American Grill? name put you off. The interior is nicely done ? warm wood and real gas lamps. There is a full sized bar too. The music is a bit unique with lots of 70?s tunes. Yes, Bentley?s needs time to work on the small stuff (like uninspired bread and the accompanying spread), but the service was good. So all of you that complain about the bland Cary foodscape, give Bentley?s a try.

While the decor is pleasing to the eye, some modifications to the menu seem to be in order. For starters there needs to be a greater selection of dressings for the salads. When asked, our server indciated they did not have any other dressings than listed specifically for each salad. We also found the pricing of the steaks to not match thier taste and quality. For those prices, the flavor and tenderness of the steak needs to be a cut above and our choices did not meet that standard. Also, at those prices, the customer should have the choice of whether or not to have the steak served in what appeared to be a burgundy sauce. Steak of the quality referenced on their menu should always be served dry unless otherwise indicated by the customer. In closing, a larger selection of desserts would also bode well, as variety will make for a happier diner. All in all not too bad for being brand new. Will give Bentleys another chance in the future hoping that some changes have taken place.
