This place is incredible. It's beautiful and has a European feel to it. I came with 2 other girl friends of mine. We had the best time. I got the hot poultice massage--incredible. My other two girl friends got a facial and massage and were very happy. We lounged, relaxed in the hot tub and sauna and were treated like queens. Can't wait to go back!

The worst part of my Valentine's Day 2009 was my massage here (keep in mind that it's not owned or managed by the Fairmont). This was not my first time at an expensive spa, but it will certainly be my last time at Tova. Some tips if you insist on going here:

1. DO NOT ARRIVE LATE. In fact, arrive early (which none of their salespeople told us but it's written on page 28 of their 30-page booklet). They have some paperwork for you to fill out, and then you have to change in the locker room, then walk to the lounge and/or be led to your room. Our 50-minute massages were booked on the hour, giving us only 10 minutes for the entire process before the actual massage (not enough time if you have to wait for them to finish helping other customers, go to the bathroom, etc.). If you happen to be late, beware that:

2. YOUR MASSAGE WILL END WHEN IT IS SCHEDULED TO END, EVEN IF IT HASN'T BEEN FOR THE ENTIRE DURATION. Yes, it was Valentine's Day and Tova had booked themselves back-to-back. However, they failed to: a.) notify us to arrive early, b.) notify us of the event downtown that clogged San Carlos, and c.) notify us that they would have to end our massage early so they could move on to the next customer.

Since my boyfriend dropped me off, I was only about 5 minutes late. They had me fill out his paperwork as well (but it turns out they didn't have him sign it when he entered). I told them he would be late and he also phoned while I was at the desk. During that entire exchange, during the paperwork, and during the time I was led to the locker room, neither of us was told that the massage would end abruptly on the hour so they could help the next customer (although my boyfriend's masseuse told him during his massage). He was also not informed of this important policy when he scheduled the massage nor when they called to remind him of the appointment. This led to me learning that:

3. IF YOU COMPLAIN, YOU WILL BE MODERATELY COMFORTED BUT MOSTLY BE CITED POLICY AND "NORMALITY." When I told the (I presume) owner how upset I was, she explained that all spas are like this, especially on a day that is packed like Valentine's Day. She said that on other days, they would be more flexible but not that day and that "oh, this policy is listed in the brochure"--which I'm sure protects them legally, but we certainly did not read through their 30 pages nor should we be expected to.

I am fairly certain she was being sincere, but justifying having our expensive 50-minute massages cut short (mine by only a couple of minutes but my boyfriend's by half) is NOT customer service, especially when we weren't notified by ANY salesperson. In retrospect, I should have insisted that my boyfriend's massage be charged for the 25 minutes he received instead of the 50 minutes he had reserved (about $30 difference). Oh, 20-20 hindsight.

Her way to "make it up to us" was to give us 2 cards that gave us a $25 discount on a $100 or more future purchase. I later learned that these are promotional cards that we could have received from Fairmont salespeople. Nothing like being given a marketing tool to make us feel like coming back.

Some other notes: they have spa services, but neither of us was directed to where any of that was so we ended up just leaving. No idea where the sauna or steamroom was. I only saw the one whirlpool (co-ed, holds about 4 people; 6 people if you like intimacy with strangers) because it was right next to the locker room. I have no idea if there were any other services.

Hallways are dimly lit which may help with the atmosphere but there's no maps anywhere and all the employees were too busy coming or going to pay us any mind unless we ambushed them in the hallway.

Also, this place is NOT wheelchair accessible unless there was a hidden elevator somewhere. Stairs only for the second floor for those of you who have any injuries. Fortunately my knees were fine that day but I suppose it wouldn't have made a difference since no one asked me anyway. It mostly felt like I was being shuffled along a conveyor belt and purged in time for the arrival of the next customer, with the goal of the staff to have the least amount of contact with me as possible.

On the plus side, the massage itself was fine, and there's water and trail mix in the hallways and bathrooms.

Fortunately, we had a $100 coupon as part of the Fairmont's Valentine's special. Oh, and a glass of champagne each. Still...paying $140 for our massages when I've received better service from the masseuses at the mall was a rip-off.

Went to Tova before the Tina Turner concert to treat myself to a massage. The staff was amazing and the owner was fantastic! My massage therapist was new to Tova but was really amazing! I will return very soon...

My husband and I went to Tova's for our anniversary. We each had a massage and a body treatment. (I also had a facial). The spa is gorgeous and the therapists were wonderful! We like to visit different day spas when we travel, and Tova's is one we will definitely visit again. The best part is that in many spas they rush you out the door as soon as you're done, but here we enjoyed the Jacuzzi and all the other wonderful amenities and did not have to pay extra for that-- it was included.

I thought treating myself to a day at the spa for my birthday was a good idea, but I will never indulge again. The employees were nice, but the services left something to be desired and the prices were very expensive. I recommend you do some further research before making your decision.

I went to Tova Day Spa at the Fairmont hotel with 4 of my girlfriends. We each chose two treatments. Before our treatments we were able to relax in the Jacuzzi and steam room. We were not charged extra for this luxury as it is complimentary.
The staff was amazing and we were pampered from the moment we entered the spa. The prices are very reasonable when you compare it to other high end spas in the area. Tova spa is definitely top notch--I cannot wait to go back!
