In Short
When Havana Chelsea closed shop, the neighborhood lost one of its few cheap eats staples. But another Cuban spot has risen in its place, and though the owners are different, much remains the same. Brightly colored murals make for a festive, if low-key, ambience, and antique bistro lamps hang above the few counter seats. Classic sandwiches like the Cubano get a kicky twist with chorizo, and other lunch-friendly options include tamales and ham croquettes. Plates of roast pork, fried chicken and whole red snapper offer belly-filling dinner options for less than $15.

Key Points

  • Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
  • Mojitos, Margaritas, Daiquiris
  • Delivery Available

The Inside Scoop

  1. What to Drink - Feeling adventurous? Order one of the thick, somewhat oddly textured fruit shakes, including the ominously-titled "To Die Dreaming" (orange and vanilla), or the mamey (mamey is a somewhat bland fruit).
  2. Delivery - Feeling both ravenous and lazy? Casa Havana delivers.
  3. What to Drink - Daquiris and margaritas can be had in all flavors for $5 a pop.

Ratings_icons super paella

ezgoes

I walked by Casa Havana and saw the sign Paella $10.95 I could not believe it because every restaurant I have visited for paella goes for over $22.00 per person.I tried it and it was as good as some of the top restaurants that serve paella. As I looked around at least a third of the customers were eating paella.oh I forgot that with a glass of wine its $14.95 Great find in Chelsea.

Pros: more food and more food

Cons: too much food

chuchy

croquetas tasted awful. empanadas were old and not Cuban nor Columbian nor Argentine... i have no idea from where but i do know they tasted BAD. an order of Yuca fries was 3$ and the serving size was 12 fries. literally 12 fries. i tasted one and they also did not look nor taste like yuca.

Pros: i gave them a second chance and still yuk!

Cons: not authentic. not anything....

Ratings_icons Excellent Cuban Food!

tefjr77

The food is excellent and very inexpensive for Manhattan. The cuban steak is excellent with yellow rice and black beans. Get some Papa Rellena and Yuca. And finish up with some excellent cinnamon flan.

Pros: Excellent food at a great low price!

Cons: Limited menu, I wish there were more choices, it's so good.

Ratings_icons GREAT Lunch Spot

luvbbq

Delicious Cuban food is served at Casa Havana by friendly people and at very reasonable prices. I work in the Chelsea neighborhood and Casa Havana is in my regular rotation, a least once per week. My coworkers feel the same way.

Pros: Food, Service, Prices

Ratings_icons Delicious Food and Lots of It

rezpect

I have NO idea what the person below is even talking about because Havana Chelsea is great! Sure, the decor is "no frills," but I never saw any flies there in all my many visits. The food is just delicious -- especially recommended are the roast pork and breaded fried chicken breast plus yellow rice -- and the prices make it an exceptional value. I always take home enough food for a second meal...maybe even a third! And the service has always been very courteous when I've visited. Highly recommended.

Pros: Excellent Food! Huge Portions!

Cons: No Ambience

Ratings_icons Its Great!!!

vvelez1129

Being from the carribean myself i have to say the food here is great. I usually get the fried pork chops with white rice and black beans. This comes to about $14- BUT IT SERVES 2. I think this is a great deal for your money in a neighborhood that is way too expensive.

Ratings_icons There is much better than this!

garcii

This cuban place should not be highly rated. The service was slow as waitresses loudly chatted among themselves. The cuban sandwich was very average and deserves no special mention. The steak was good, but the tostones were not. I'm
not going back to this place.

Ratings_icons great find!!

trishholiday

Upon entering I was afraid we had made a mistake due to the decor of the establishment... however the food is amazing and I knew we were spot on. You will walk out with the fragrance of the restaurant on your clothes... a bit annoying but it's winter - maybe in the summer that's not as much of an issue. Enjoy.

Pros: great food, great value

Ratings_icons yummy, cheap Cuban home cooking.

stevesmith22

Garlic lovers will love this place! The Cuban sandwich melts in your mouth but now I go there for the salty plantains with garlic (sprinkle with olive oil) -- they're delicious with the chicken soup . Rice and beans comes with every meal entree .

Pros: tasty food, cheap

Ratings_icons huge portions of cuban comfort

thadp

One entree is enough for two. Best dishes are Shrimp w/ garlic, roast pork, arroz con pollo, and roast chicken. The Cuban sandwiches are very good also, and make a great accompaniment to the chicken noodle soup. I find the mofongo and plantains too dry, but some like them. The black beans are buttery and good too.
