This place was great. I brought my DC-1E Martin down to Dr. Fretgood, and Nick took care of it. His knowledge was awesome and quality of work was impecable. Plus, I signed myself up for some lessons after I got my guitar back. I hadn't played since college, but he brought my guitar back to life, so it needed to be played.

If you are at all thinking of a guitar repair I 100% recommend.

If you are at all thinking about lessons, I 100% recommend.

Real down to earth people, who have a passion for thier work. Thanks for the good work and all the help.

I go to the Dr. basically for all my guitar needs. Recently I changed my pickguar on a fender strat and had the tele mod added to my guitar. I loved my guitar before but now its always at my side. From the moment I walked in Ivan was very interested in the changes I requested and asked alot of questions. Theses guys really want to please you. Plus the neighbour discount is a cool gesture. Its nice to go to a place where the moment you walk in, some one remembers who you are. If you are ever in the neighbourhood, (or in the same city) get you guitar set-up by the Dr. AMAZING quality of work.

I found Dr. Fretgood driving through my neighborhood one day and decided to stop in. Ivan and Nick were the easiest guys to talk to about my guitars. They really know how to listen and understand what you want out of your guitar setup.

I had 3 setups done on my les pauls for a show that weekend and they sounded and felt great.

They even made suggestions about action and bridge setups that made one of my guitars play smoother.

In the 10 years ive lived in Chicago and all the places I have gone, Nick and Ivan made me feel good about leaving my guitars in their hands. Ill be taking my guitars to them from now on. Check them out! Your guitar will thank you for it!

Dr. Fretgood is a great guitar repair shop, you should go see them. They are REALLY good with custom wiring guitars and they do some really cool custom tube amp modifications. I had them wire series/parallel switches in both my guitars, and Nick converted my Fender amp to cathode bias so now I get that tweed "squish" that alot of us are looking for. I'd also like to point out that they are by far the friendliest guys to take your gear to... and i've been to a lot of shops in Chicago.

I used Dr. Fretgood for the installation of a LR Baggs M1 Active pickup in my Martin D-16.

I chose the pickup from online reviews (much like this one) so when I came into the shop, Ivan was interested in why I wanted the M1. He recommended some others that he really liked but he also happened to have a martin lying around with an M1 in it. The fact that he questioned it makes me believe he was genuinely interested in me getting a sound that pleased me.

Basically, I felt they have attentive service and knowledgeable staff. That, and the set up was one of the best I've had in years. Made the guitar play like (or better than) new.

The only drawback is the storefront is a little sketchy.
