My dad and I are thinking about moving there and cleaning the place up because it is in really bad shape! I will make sure that if we buy it, we will definitly make it look better! It has been for sale for a while! But, is it pretty there? Is it spacious?

I boarded my horse at Beatrice Family Farm for 26 days. I was appalled by the dilapidated and unsafe condition of the fencing. Many of the rails are rotted, splintered, warped, and held together with baling twine. My horse cut her face on a protruding nail in her stall. I cleaned up her paddock to remove nails, plastic shards and zip ties, broken cinder blocks, and baling twine to prevent injury or accidental ingestion. I am a veterinarian (Cynthia L. Herron, D.V.M. of Gales Ferry Animal Hospital) who is well educated in safe animal husbandry practices. This facility is severely lacking in safety measures. I reported the farm to the local animal control officer, but unfortunately there are no Connecticut statutes regulating the upkeep of farm facilities unless there is a reported case of animal abuse or neglect.
I found the many constraints placed upon me by the owner to be oppressive and restrictive, none of which were present in the lease or release from liability waiver I signed. Mr. Beatrice informed me that he runs a "carrots only" barn, and I was firmly prohibited from giving my horse an apple. I was requested not to arrive before 9 a.m., which reduced my ability to visit my horse during the work week. I was also asked not to ride unless the owner was home to supervise. Because Mr. Beatrice works full time, this meant that I would have been unable to ride on my day off if I had agreed to his terms.
I would urge anyone who is looking for a facility to board their horse to choose a safer and less hostile environment.
