max brenners is amazing but if they made a low fat menu they would become even more popular due to the amount of people who are dieting and taking care of their health
heaps of people would appreciate it and go even more often without the after effect feeling of guilt :P

If you really wanna get a good dose of chocolate - it's a right place for you!!! You can either buy small pieces of diff kinds of choco candy or you can take your time, relax and try anything from the menu that is related to chocolate ( there is no point to go for lunch to a chocolateplace).
The variety of hot chocolate is huge as well as deserts.

The whole place feels comfortable. The music is always...inspiring and makes you wanna dance :-)

The prices are completely reasonable!

The only thing - every time I go there, the staff is some kind of lost, wondering around not looking at what's happening on the tables..

I like there the chocolate pizza, the crapes and the fondue. I am sure that everything else there is just amazing but there is so much dessert and so little stomach space :))) Love this place and I am very sad that they closed the location in my favorite neighborhood in St.Marks Place :( It was a great place for people watching and stuff but hey there is always this one and the one at Union Sq. Highly recommended for desserts!

This is true chocoholic heaven! Aside from the obvious nutella crepes, brazilian mocha martinis, and hot chocolates, you can still get your chocolate fix through the most unsuspecting food items. Be sure to try the waffle fries dusted with chili and cocoa power, as well as the beer battered onion rings with dark chocolate ranch dressing! The creative plating makes each dish a surprise, and keeps me coming back.

My boyfriend took me here for our "date night." He got a big kiss for it. The environment is fantastic and interesting and of course, the chocolate. I had the banana split latte...mmmmmm, so good! And the real food is great too. I had a burger and he had a quesedilla, both very good and very filling. The wait staff is nice but not very attentive and we were packed in there like pickles! But, that's every place in NYC for you.

I absolutely love this place. I have been here at least 5 times, if not more. Personally, I've never had a bad experience. My dad had a burger there and they put cheese on it when he asked for no cheese and they took it right back and made him a brand new burger. The server was very nice about it. So it really wasn't a problem. I love the decor, the smell, the food (dinner dishes or dessert) - both are great! My only con is the tight seating but I've had many birthdays here and will continue to do so.

I first went to Max Brenner's in Israel. I think I had so many sweets that I thought I was going to throwup! The plan was to eat lunch there and then go to the beach- that changed quickly when I realized I would probably be harpooned upon setting foot onto the sand!

When I got home from Israel, I immediately looked on the Max Brenner's website to find out what other locations they had. I was so happy when I found that they had restaurants in NY!!! Needless to say, I've been to them multiple times since then!

My favorite dessert, which they have since done away with, was called the Chocolate Mess. Like it's title suggests, it's a mess of chocolate cake, icecream, whipped cream, sprinkles, little pieces of chocolate, etc, etc.

Their chocolate is amazing and I would highly recommend this place to anyone and everyone! I'm sure kids would get a kick out of the place (pipes over your head with chocolate, big mixers with melted chocolate, huge chocolate bars everywhere!)

My friend took me here after raving about it. She had me at chocolate, and man, did it live up to its hype! It was definitely crowded on Friday night, and the wait is long, but very well worth it. While waiting, one of the hostesses passed around samples of a delicious caramel treat. The interior decor was very appropriate for a chocolate place -- off-white and shades of brown. The butterflies all around the area were a cute touch, but I'm not sure why butterflies were chosen as the aesthetic choice. Low lighting was nice as well. I had the onion rings with a chipotle chocolate sauce, which was delicious, and then had waffles and two types ice cream, drizzled with chocolate. I think i died in that chair from a delicious sugar rush! SOOO worth the wait, and it was worth walking 10 blocks home instead of taking the train to burn off those calories.

I heard a lot about Max Brenners so I decided to go, but I didnt think it was as good as personal favorite, my Chocolate Bar... still the best chocolate and desserts in town!!

CHOCOLATE BAR WEST VILLAGE

You come in expecting a great meal, atmosphere, and service, and, you get it. The presentation of each item on the menu makes you not want to mess up its display. Pretty fair prices, but all worth it at the end. A great place to take a date or a bunch of friends.

So it?s crowded & there?s a wait here (20 mins on weekend evening) but it?s so worthwhile for chocolate-lovers to visit for the pure emphasis on all things CHOCOLATE! My husband & I split a salad (very good but not exceptionally notable or anything like that), then we had the chocolate fondue for 2 ? you get your choice of milk, dark or white chocolate (we got dark & milk), plus they give you caramel sauce, assorted dippables (marshmallows, banana bread & fruit) & a little thing to toast your marshmallows. It was so fun to do & so delectably tasty!! I could?ve easily used more stuff to dip (probably a good idea that we ran outta stuff to dip when we did, it gave me a cut-off point, LOL). Be careful if you order a hot tea, as the cups don?t get hot outside ? which is better for gripping but that doesn?t give you an idea of how hot one?s beverages really are (I burned my tongue). Service was very nice & accommodating. Most of the tables are far away from the mobbed doorway, which helps you to focus on your escape into chocolate bliss! I?m looking forward to trying more stuff here but the fondue was so awesome that I?m not sure I could order something else here for a while?!

Pros: CHOCOLATE!!! Accomodating staff, wide selection

Cons: Not-surprising wait/crowds, wide selection (hard to choose what to order LOL)

Max Brenners is a wonderland made out of chocolate. The decor is fun and seductive. Meals you never imagined could taste good made out of chocolate are wonderful at this fun restaurant and dessert place.

Yeah, there might be lots of tourists. But we don't care. As chocolate lovers we could not resist.
We had appetizers and had dessert for our main course. So don't fill up too much on the food, save
your appetite for what they do best - CHOCOLATE! I am taking my sister (just recently moved to NY) and her family to dinner here tomorrow.

Although the seating may be tight, and it could get pretty loud, the service was great and the dessert was out of this world. Love the tea fusion gadget and the egg shaped cup for the hot cocoa. Bravo!

We will definitely be back and will bring relatives, friends and turn others on to this great resteraunt.

This restaurant is a Chocolate Lover's Dream Come True! Great food (even their non chocolate dishes!) Ask for them to warm a chocolate cookie or brownie and it makes it even better! Reasonably priced, a great place for adults and children alike!

Max Brenner is a store specializing in chocolate dishes. They have standard chocolate dishes such as fondue or crepes, but they also have some bizarre foods such as chocolate pizza. Also, try one of their many hot chocolate drinks! It is thick, sweet and absolutely scrumptious!

I first went there with a few friends. it was suggested by one of my friends and he said, " you would Looove it!" and when i first entered, I felt like a kid again with the chocolate that was being made in the barrels, the little chocolate shop they had and the huge tubes up towards the ceiling with so called "chocolate" flowing through it. I ordered a wonderful warm waffle dish served with two 1 scoops milk chocolate and Vanilla of my choice, a Chocolate shot and little chocolate wafer - like pearls and a classic Shake. Everything was Delicious. This Place is Absolutely Perfect for Every Chocolate Lover.

Great deserts, the chocolate soup is my fave. I've only had the veggie burger off their food menu, which was great, but just the smells in this place is enough to go there. Only problem is it's always crowded and the seating is pretty tight. Overall, it's great.

I heard raving reviews about this place, but I was sort of let down. I did not think the chocolate was all that great. I had dessert and drinks here. It was expensive and frankly I thought the Hershey's store in Times Square had more to offer in the way of tasty chocolate. There was a annoying wait for a table. The place was noisy and cramped.

If you love chocolate just as much as Augustus Gloop (the chubby kid in "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory" kicked out for drinking out of Wonka's chocolate river)...then this is the place for you. It's usually busy and you can expect a wait to be seated, especially on weekends. Food wasn't too good, my pasta dish came out dry and lacked decent flavor; also my friend's burger was way overcooked. The service was also average but I can forgive them for that to some extent because it's a bit hectic in there. For dessert we got hot chocolates, cakes, and cookies and we enjoyed them all. The chocolate is strong but very good, just don't eat way too much of it (laughs).

We were there on Sat night. Great food, BUT... very poor management (Karen, are you reading this). We were told that the seats at the bar were NOT first come first serve?! We had to wait half an hour while there were bar chairs available just because Karen did not know her job. When we asked for the woman's name it turned out that on top of everything she was a manager!!! Make sure if you see a chair at the bar you take it, they are for anyone any time! (Max's dirty little secret) If you chose to go there not only will you wait (they do not take reservations after 8 pm, very smart) which will be ok but you get to wait in the walk way and have nowhere to move and stay out f the way.

I've been to Max Brenner twice. It is definitely delicious, but you really need to be a chocoholic to enjoy it, and even then you might still be a little taken aback by just how sweet everything is. The Chocolate Mess was tasty the first time I went, but even for me it was too much. You're better off with cakes like the Intense Double Chocolate Fudge Cake, which is phenomenal, or the tasty drinks like the Chocolate Chai. No doubt it is certainly fun and delicious, but it can be a little overwhelming, so choose wisely when you order.

I stopped in to get a Hot chocolate the other day. I asked two guys behind the coutner where the drink menu was and he pointed behind him. then i said I was looking for the EXTENDed DRINK MENU where it listed ALL of the different types of hotchocolate and they just shrugged and scratced their heads and said: we don't have one? NO? I saw it online.... "I don't know.." I finally found it next to the hostess and pick the drink i wanted. I showed them the menu so they could SEE that there was an actual menu and they just go frustrated. I ordered a drink and it was pretty good but the service is lousy. They treated me like I was from Mars or something asking for the MENU.

I absolutely love this place because chocolate is my weakness. The food was delicious and very creative. The setting was very romantic with low lighting and candles. I would recommend this place for a first date. I ordered smores and actually got to toast marshmallows with an open fire! It is slightly expensive but the food and atmosphere was definitely worth it. I would recommend going to this place because it was a memorable experience.

My husband and I have eaten at Max.'s three times. The first time was a great experience. The last two time have been very disappointing. Friends came to NY from San Francisco we went to Max and we waited a long time for our order to arrive. When it did it was incomplete. The manager refunded us our money as a result. This morning we went to Max for breakfast.. The store was not crowed since it was Sunday morning and we still waited 15 minutes for coffee and an additional 20 minutes for our very small and expensive meals. I got the smallest waffles in the world for 9 dollars. The chocolate is good. But save yourself the trouble. Get your chocolate to go. Great for dessert, terrible service, awful breakfast.

For chocolate lovers, this is chocolate heaven, everything and I mean everything is covered in chocolate. They even have delicious chocolate pizza, but the best is their 'Hazelnut Praline Crepes', out of this world good. Highly recommend it.

My first experience at the chocolate bald man was at Union Square on Feb. 15th (day after Valentine's).
My spouse and I arrived without a reservation and was put on the list with a promise of 35 minute wait. We agreed and had to wait (stand) at an available place which happened to be near the counter. After about what seemed to be forever, we were called to be seated at a very cramp space-saving single table which were less than a foot close to our neighbor's table. This really didn't bother me however you can tell that not everyone would be given the best service. The main menu has everything a normal restaurant would have from salads to savory french crepes. After sitting for about 10 minutes, our waitress comes to the table apologizing for the wait and takes our order. I had a hot chocolate with marshmallows and the salmon wellington while my gf had the penne carbanara and a mexican hot chocolate of her own. Our entrees came out in an average amount of time. I believe my salmon was a bit overcooked but I really didn't care for it. The penne carbanara was packed with lots of cheese and I feel it was just an another average dish. Hot chocolate was very refreshing and one of the best I ever had. We finished the meal with of course, a chocolate desert, the fondue sampling for two. The desert came to us with an assortment of fruits, marshmallows which they give us a fire-proof flame for our roasting and to dip into the fondue. The dish came with chocolate ice cream, a fudge of peanut butter (yuck), chocolate banana waffles (yum), and a shot of chocolate. I must say, the desert set the mood correct and made the night very romantic. I would come back to this place just for the deserts but not actually for any entrees (unless I venture to try the crepes). There are a lot more desserts to sample and I will look forward to coming here again. If you are single, this is not a place to come pick-up women but a place to bring your lover. Not a fan of choco, don't come here.

Not a fan of choco, don't come here.

Pros: Chocolate Dishes/Drinks, Variety of Dishes, Ok prices

Cons: Very Busy, Long Waits, Table to Table proximity (very close), average entrees

.

The hostess had harassed my friends until 2 other people came (this happened within the time span of 10 minutes). This place couldn't bring my friends? and mine drinks for 30 minutes. They were able to bring the food with tap water though! Then the waiter keep saying sorry, but there were no drinks. We just wanted to leave, and the manager came over and was rude too us! He comes up with attitude to our table and says, "I am not taking the cheesecake back...You guys can have it." He gives us a stern look and walks away. We left his gummy cheesecake and left. It was awful and I'm never going to that place again! No chocolate is worth this sort of disrespect.

If you are a chocolate lover, then this is most definitely the place for you. I have officially lost count of how many times I've been there, and every time, I thoroughly enjoyed my experience. The staff is very friendly, and if you have no idea what to have, asking them for their recommendations is a huge plus. They will not hesitate to tell you which is their favorite, and the reasons as to why. The food from the main menu has a lot of variety, so there is something for everyone, and it's all very good. And their dessert menu is AMAZING. I can tell you right now that you will have a tough time deciding what to have for dessert, because you are going to want to try them all. You might gain a few pounds, but trust me, it is so definitely worth the extra mile on the treadmill. Whatever you do, you MUST have dessert, if thats the only thing you have while there. Your experience won't be complete without it. It's a great place to go eat, whether on a date or with friends, and it's very affordable. You have to try it. You will not regret it at all.

Pros: Affordable, Absolutely Delicious

Cons: Gets a little crowded after 5

I have been to many restaurants all over the world and I can say that this was an interesting experience. I have come to realize that good service usually comes with good costumer in the first place. We had an excellent waiter who knew his stuff. He advice me and my friends about what's good without us even asking. When I was ordering the Iced Chocolate (which actually tastes like chocolate) he told me not to add the flavors because the chocolate is so natural and pure it would be a shame to mix it with chemicals. These little advices here and there make a dining experience that much better. The food was great (although next time I'm ordering only chocolate). The only suggestion that I have for this place is the decor and the table landscaping. Some of the tables were in the pathway and all of them were tiny. I wouldn't imagine giving this place anything but a 5 because of the excellent food and service. We are coming back.

The food here is delicious. I love the idea of chocolate at all hours of the day or night and going here is a chocolate lovers dream because they have chocolate drinks, chocolate fondues and candy to die for. I love the atmosphere and the staff is excellent.

i went to the less busy east villiage location for a late lunch. i stood at the entrance for 5 min when a hostess finally just told us to sit at the table by which we were already standing. then the waitress finally came to our table. she stared at us and we stared at her. i realized she was not going to greet my so i said hello and she responded by asking us if we were ready to order. she didn't even say hello, or make eye contact let alone as us if we wanted anything to drink to start. however, our lunch and hot chocolates were great but for a place that is supposed to be fun the staff really lacked that fun attitude we were expecting. so great food but depressing staff

Syrupy hot chocolate, touristy feel, sub-par service. Head to Jacques Torres instead. Much better experience all around.

mmmm...chocolate....They recently improved the dining menu but the reason to come back here is the chocolate fondue. The cool thing about it is the roasting fire. We roasted everything before dipping it in glorious dark chocolate. The roasting is tons of fun, the chocolate makes you happy, and the entire experience is absolutely fantastic. Great for fun dates that are easy going. My faves from the menu are the Chicken Paella and the Chicken Ceasar Salad. On hot or cold days, the hot chocolates in the hug mugs starts you just right on the chocolate journey.

Pros: Chocolate Fondue...roasting food and then dipping it in chocolate...sheer genius that is.

Cons: The wait...but only because of the anticipation and delicious aromas while you wait.

.

You could have a good meal here. Tasty sausages and all. Just don't expect high-quality chocolate. I find their stuff actually inedible. Admittledly I'm a dark chocolate snob, but after the reviews I was expecting more. Have dinner here by all means - it's rather fun - but go elsewhere for dessert.

I take every visitor (and even non-visitors) to this restaurant and they have all loved it. My recommendations are the chilli spinach crepes and milk chocolate hot chocolate. Healthy food has never tasted so good! They have a cute little gift shop that sells hug mugs. You'll know what I mean when you try the hot chocolate. The place looks like Willie Wonka's chocolate factory. Service is excellent and unlike some of the other reviewers claim, I would argue that the wait is more than worth it. Just make sure you get seated on the lower floor, because the upper floor is small and not ideal for people watching. I highly recommend Max Brenner.

It was pretty crowded at the door, but we waited exactly 45 minutes as the host predicted. I was seated towards the back and our waiter was very nice. We ordered the chocolate pizza and the banana waffles, which both arrived pretty quickly. Unfortunately the pizza had more marshmallows than chocolate and the chocolate sauce for the waffles seemed more like brown corn syrup. I could not taste any bit of chocolate as both were way too sweet, perhaps to cover the lack of chocolate. I mean can chocolate be that much more expensive than sugar? While we were seated I notice that at least 3 tables around us would be empty and most of the second floor ? empty meanwhile there is a line at the door. I mean couldn?t they seat people more efficiently or is this some kind of market scheme--by artificially creating a line at the door to draw more sheep like me in.

Disappointment they make you wait 45 minutes for no reason when they have plenty of tables empty in back and the only chocolate I tasted was a free sample they gave me at the door.

Pros: chocolate shop seem ok

Cons: long wait, not real chocolate

Wall-to-wall crowd, no reservations available, HORRIBLY SLOW SERVICE, expensive, don't buy cocktails - they have no alcohol, not even a taste, you'll end up spending $12 for a cold chocolate in a martini glass.
WAFFLES ARE AMAZING though - since I'm such a sugar adict - can't deny that desserts were awesome!

The mocha drink in the 'hug mug' was yummy, but the chocolate overpowered the coffee a bit. We didn't try any food, but the menu looked great. It's a fun place with interesting, original desserts. Where else can you get melted chocolate to pour over your chocolate? Try to get a table by the window upstairs and watch the world go by.

Not gourmet but not Dairy Queen either, Max Brenner serves up some tasty, heavy desserts with an emphasis on the many varieties and forms of chocolate. The price is a bit high for what you get, but that's the area. I could never recommend this place, however, because the service is unacceptably awful. On several occasions, our orders were lost and had to be resubmitted, and basic things like napkins and utensils can't be taken for granted without repeatedly asking. The servers have a pretty poor attitude about their shortcomings and if you go, you'll likely be in for a very long, fairly frustrating experience -- assuming it's crowded, because it nearly always is. The theme is fun and the place is nicely decorated; I can imagine that it might eventually be popular in the malls of Jersey, but if they don't fix their service problems before the novelty is gone, NY'rs will probably have their fill in short order.

I went there early to help set up for an 8pm group birthday dinner that was reserved weeks in advance. Not only was the table not ready but we didn't get set up until 8:50pm. They shuffled a few small square tables and round tables to accomodate our large group. The waiters stood around and watched us (the guests) put together the seats and chairs which were very cramped. The food was mediocre but priced for what it's worth. Our waiter was trying his best to accomodate us but he had just started. We had to shout out the dishes the waitstaff were holding since they were unable to squeeze through the tight configuration we were seated and they got a few orders wrong. Ultimately, I think I'd just visit the store for a quick in and out transaction instead of standing around the crowded lobby waiting for below standard service. I don't think I'd go there again for a sit down meal unless all other stores in the city were closed and I'm in dire need of a hot chocolate.

This place seemed always packed and I gave a shot for hot chocolate drinks and a little dessert after a long walk on a cold day. My friend and I ordered a chocolate drinks and some icecream dessert and a bottled water. Our waiter said they only have a small bottle and I said that's what I want. Different server brought us an open LARGE bottle of water and I sent it back because that's not what I ordered. She got all mad and rolling her eyes saying that that's the only size they have. I almost felt guilty but again that's not what I ordered.
Now we got our drinks. They were lukewarm, cups were chipped, silverwares were disgusting. Water glasses had finger prints all over, gross.
Anyway, I haven't seen my friend for a long time and we were chatting up over very average, over-priced drinks. I totally forgot that we ordered a dessert until they brought it out when we finished our drinks long time ago. It doesn't even require cooking! Two scoops of ice cream and some kind of sprinkles.

I went last weekend--to sum it up, I hope that this meets the fate of the japanese place there before it. The evening was terrible to begin when the hostess with long brown hair was completely rude about seating us. It wasn't crowded, several empty tables, we asked if we could sit near the window and she denied the request as if it were a big inconvenience to her. Then as we waited a long time for our food (which was a waste of money- waffles were nothing special and the chocolate sauce so unflavorful it might as well have come from a hershey's bottle) we had to listen to the tackiest (and outdated, I might add) euro-club-lounge music playing so loud I couldn't hear our conversation. This gave my friends and us time to really look at the place, which is as contrived as going to an outback steakhouse without the friendly servers. If you want a coffee and a good dessert, I say go to the starbucks or ukrainian place on the other corners of the street.

I never knew where to meet up with people when they call me telling me they are coming to NYC. I want to pick somewhere easy and central, unique, but casual, and not too expensive. Plus i live in the neighborhood...This place fits the bill. The food and service here are great. The food really is surprisingly good, and the desert choices are excellent. The hot chocolate is never hot enough, but the wait staff is attentive and will rewarm it for you. I like this place: easy, relatively affordable, great location, and really good food. Not EXCELLENT, but really good. Plus, the rest of the perks make it a great place to meet up. I recommend going there about 20 minutes early and giving your name, as they are rather busy at key times. You can go to Virgin, or sit at Union Square, or check out the farmers market in the meantime.

Cool place. But don't let the chocolate mixer fool you. all the chocolates are prepared overseas. They aren't fresh like other place in the city like Jacques Torres Chocolate. Living in Belgium for 3 1/2 years you get really get to know chocolate. But Union square is a nice location and you want a chocolate fix it's a good place to stop for the atmosphere.
