Our experience was so great. Our waitstaff was helpful and friendly, helping us pick a wine and patiently explaining the food. (We were new to Turkish food). We also had the hummus and eggpant with souce , and something I had never seen before but was excellent. The lamb adana is thier specialty and it is well deserved. The filet's were perfectly cooked and a great portion size.sahara is grat becuase even if you aren't into Turkish food, they have options that are great for everyone, even vegetarians. I am usually a picky eater and I loved the food there. Definitely order dessert- the oven baked shredded wheat is the most interesting and delicious dessert I have ever tasted. also manager he is so kind, awesome very helpfull guy I really really love this place I recomend this pleace
also they just changed their wine list menu

now they have rich and nice wine list

Hey. This place is fine. Definitely not the most authentic, but not bad food either. They have a little more work to do on the service front. We sat down at a table, and I didn't have a place setting (not a big deal). They took our drink order promptly. It took a little while for the bread to come out (so the hummus we ordered sat there until our bread came). The took our order fairly promptly. The food was alright. I ordered the chicken kabob. It was fine. I was hoping they would have had a few more poultry options, but that is only a preference. The water did not flow freely, as would be expected, but they did refill our glasses eventually.

Bottom line: It is fine. Not the best, not the worst. It would a fine choice, if other options are not available.

Pros: Good Murray Hill Location

Cons: Service could have been a little better. Food could have been more authentic.

I live in the area and I have been going to this place for a while now and it just keeps getting better. The food has always been high quality and the waiters and waitresses there are nothing but the nicest and will accomodate you anyway they can. If you're looking for a nice, quiet Turkish place to eat this is it.

This place is the worst place I had turkish food! As a mediterrenean, I cant tell u how horrible iskender ( type of gyro) was! It was really dry.. Secondly, the appetizer babaganous was not authentic. Unfortunately this place received good reviews, but as an individual who knows the real tasty turkish food, this place is strongly not recommended! If you want to try a good turkish place, go to Alibaba! Plus, I dont think the staff was friendly there..

Normally we visit a Turkish restaurant on 3rd ave which is still wonderful and delicious but finding Sahara was one of the best things that happened to me when I moved into the neighborhood. As a wonderful alternative to my usual, this place never requires a reservation, you can always get a table and the food and staff is wonderful. I would recommend this to anyone who really enjoys good service and delicious Mediterranean food. What a great find on 2nd Avenue! Maybe I shouldnt rate this so good; I may have to wait now to get in!

What turned out to be a second choice for dinner turned into a great decision. The meze platter made the perfect appetizer - we ordered the small and it was more than enough for the three of us. The baba-gounoush (sp?) was excellent! And the homemade, piping hot bread was perfectly done.

For entrees, the Ground Lamb in Spicy Sauce (can't remember the name on the menu) was perfectly cooked and had just enough kick for the average person. The Feyti (lamb kabob) was tender and wonderful.

Yes the decor is exceedingly basic but that should not distract from the food or the friendly staff.

I usually do take out. The lamb or chicken shish-kabobs are musts! Also the babaganous and lamb in tomatoe sauce are very very good.

This restaurant is not a 'hot' place to go on a Saturday night. However, the food is excellent as is the service. I have returned a number of times and the waitstsff recognizes me immediately and greets/serves with a smile. The falafel is excellent and the prices are even better. My only complaint is the cheapish decor and a bellydancer who interferes with my enjoyment of the meal. Although, her dances are over by 9:00 pm and have learned to schedule my meals around that.

Sitting inconspicuously on a Murray Hill block lined with Irish pubs, nail salons and other eateries, Sahara's is worth noticing. The name is a bit of a misnomer---Turkish cuisine is prepared admirably here, the menu offering up the…
