First the good - the food was actually okay. I can't tell you want this place actually is, however, since you have Italian, Greek, Israeli, Mexican, Spanish.... you get a little confused.

The bad: the prices are too high for what you get. You shouldn't pay $16 for sliders. The sliders are fine, but you would expect they would be amazing or something ... especially since this is definitely not a "fine dining" atmosphere. Fish tacos? Again, good taste but for $13.50?

The place is generally empty. Maybe the managers/owners will figure out that if they want to be a neighborhood joint they should cut the prices by 30% and get everyone to make this their favorite local joint.

Maybe that's why this place is so empty, even on "busy nights."

Pros: Food tastes fine, actually

Cons: Way Too Expensive for what you get; Too much variety on menu

I found this adorable cafe a few months back and havent stopped going since. The food is DELISH...and they have a yummy cocktail menu. Why is everyone keeping this laid back cool joint a secret? Go...and i will see you there!

I love this place! Perfect little spot for after work drinks, a low key dinner or brunch. I probably stop in once or twice a week for dinner (food is really good and reasonably-priced) or drinks. Has a nice, welcoming atmosphere and the staff is super friendly. Great neighborhood place but even if you don't live nearby (I don't live close but it's near my office) I recommend checking it out!

Pros: atmosphere, food

I ended up sitting at the bar and the chairs were really comfy and it was closer to the drinks and food and I think it helped cut down on the slow service a little bit.
My friend's food came out somewhat cold, the manager heard her say something, and ended up taking off like $10 from the bill. That was nice.
Overall it was good, but I'm not in a hurry to make it a regular Sunday Brunch spot.

Pros: Brioche French Toast; Cozy Atmosphere; Not too expensive

Having recently moved to Flatiron/Chelsea, I'd noticed this gem of a restaurant on my commute to work one day. Like most pedestrians do, I paused for a moment to look at the menu on the front of the restaurant-- it all seemed like typical american food, nothing out of the ordinary, although there was a little poster advertising "Slu*ty Fridays?"
Despite the apparently eccentrically named theme night, I wandered over last tuesday evening for an early dinner. When my friend and I arrived, we stood in the front of the restaurant for an awkward minute. Eventually, a man sitting with his back to us at the bar turned around from his laptop, looked me and my friend over from head to foot, and grabbed a couple of menus, seating us in the relatively empty corner. (As I walked by his laptop, i could see that he'd been busy on Facebook... and continued to fiddle on Facebook for the rest of the night, ignoring customers...)

It took about five long minutes for the waitress to take our drink order, and another ten minutes to place our dinner order, despite the very low amount of patrons in the restaurant. I ordered the onion soup and the nicoise salad...

Strangely enough, the waitress brought out my soup and salad at the same time, even though I'd made it clear that the nicoise was intended to be my entre. My friend had ordered a hamburger and the onion soup, which was also brought out at the same time. Our table was now awkwardly crowded with all of our food, which had been brought all at the same time. Before I could ask the waitress to hold onto our entrees, she disappeared behind the bar, so we decided to finish our meal...

The soup was fine, and the salad was average, but, my bill totalling $35 for soup, salad, and a drink wasn't worth what I paid for.

I haven't had a chance to check this place out during dinner/late night, so maybe I've missed the mark, but this is definitely a big miss in a city with so many amazing restaurants and cafes.

Pros: Great neighborhood

Cons: average food, poor service

Cafe 50 is a great neighborhood bar. We have been coming here since it opened and are very happy that it?s getting more attention-more people coming in and enjoying it. The service is very friendly. A few nights a week there is live music. It?s fun to go there with friends, or by ourselves, to have a few drinks, dinner, and enjoy the music or, just being at the bar.

My wife and I walked into Cafe 50 West one evening and had a very enjoyable dinner. The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly, and the food was very good. We had a Mediterranean-style sandwich (forget which one exactly), the sliders and a mixed green salad. Everything was fresh, well-prepared and tasty. Our server wasn't the warmest or most attentive, but the quality of service was passable. The beer selection is very light, but they have fun selection of mixed drinks and happy hour til 8pm on most days. I'm not sure if the last 2 reviewers hold some sort of grudge against this place but it seemed perfectly clean and we didn't pick up on any abject odors (and trust me, my wife would have immediately - she has the nose of a bloodhound!). We both liked it a lot and will definitely be returning. I'd rate it at 4 to 4.5 stars, but will up it to 5 to compensate for what seems like an unjustified bad rap.

Cafe is a wonderful bar/restaurant with great food, friendly staff, and chill music! They have great happy hour specials everyday! The food is excellent, try the spinach artichoke dip, and the mac and cheese, and also the goat cheese pizza, all really yummy! The grilled cheese is divine as are all the soups the chef makes, different daily...the burgers and fries are also great! I recommend going to CAFE for any occasion any day! Enjoy!
