I was a tennis member at Highpoint since the late a 80s and quit a few years ago to live overseas. Since my return to ABQ I planned to rejoin so I contacted a few old friends to see how the club is doing. I was told to be careful of the sales tactics and don't believe anything they say.
I ask a salesman when inquiring about rejoining to let me have a copy of the contract to review at home. It was fine print in blue on yellow paper and I could not read it in the club. I was told that it could not leave the club for my review. It required several initial on it also to verify understanding.
I was told by the manager and salesman that I could try out the place for a few days before deciding. This offer was later reniged on by the very surly salesman because I would not buy before the end of the month. I told him from the beginning it was dependent of my wife's opinion. She had not used the club to even have an opinion yet.
I am glad I read the other reviews on this website and inquired with current members before committing to a disaster. I left the club and went immediately to the Tanoan Tennis Club where I met several old Highpoint members who had left for Tanoan and concurred with my experience. I am a member of Defined Fitness and have no complaints there. It looks like I will be joining Tanoan Tennis. They have honest sales employees there.

Do not sign any contract with them. There sales reps are, well sales reps. You will be lucky if you get anything factual out of their mouths. Their contracts have so many hidden fees its ridiculous. Its like a cell phone marriage agreement between them. And if any terms of the contract are void you are quickly sent to collections (including numerous fees), going on your credit with little or no notification to fix the issue beforehand. They are one of the most unethical fitness establishments I have ever done business with. Go to any gym besides them. Defined Fitness and Planet Fitness are 100 times better then Sports and Wellness.

They put a blip on my credit report because they erased my resignation letter and then charges me about 300. that i would not pay, so it hurts my credit. Stay away from these folks.

Pros: no outstanding ones

Cons: Unacceptable business practices, in my opinion.

They kept charging fees to our bank account! Watch out for this place, you will pay a lot more than you think.

Pros: Clean facilities, mostly...

Cons: Bad service & hidden fees

This is a great club. It has a great outdoor pool and is not as busy as some of the bigger locations. The service seems more personal but they still have all the amenities you could want. They have just recently remodeled as well. You can work with a personal trainer, or relax in the sauna or hot tub or get a massage. They also have tennis and raquet ball courts but I haven't used them.

My mom and I were members of Highpoint for many years. When I moved away she called to cancel our membership (with the month notice required). She was told on the phone that our membership was cancelled in time, but then the next month she was charged over $100 and we hadn't been to gym at all in 1 month. After they had my moms money they were EXTREMELY uncooperative and the manager CARLOS SOSA was always conveintly "out" or "on break" when my mom called to try and resolve the issue. That was over 4 months ago. They recognized she did cancel in time but NEVER credited her account and basically told her she was "SOL". Go to Definied Fitness and save yourself the hassle!
