Great thai food here. I havent been to this particular one, I've been to the one on pico, and I love it. A little pricey, but this isnt one of those hole-in-the-wall thai takeout spots. The chicken noodles is one of my favorite dishes--it's flavorful, steaming hot, and the chicken is tender. The other specialty dishes are usually great as well. This place used to have commercials of seductive asian women saying, "come to Chan dara!" between shots of their food dishes. Always cracks me up every time I think about it. In any case, they are known to have quite a few of these kinds of women as waitresses here...if you care about that kind of thing.
I guess this place is a bit over priced, but I believe they have an A rating, so that is why folks go to this place. Also, for the hot waiters and waitress. If you go in a big group, it doesn't come out to that much, since you split the food evenly and you get to try different foods. If you start buying alcohol, like anywhere, the bill will be out of control. I enjoy it everytime I go there for dinner and when I'm not in a hurry.
Pros: Great food
Cons: Parking is scarce, you either have to valet or bring change!
I was first introduced to this place by cutie food man when our office had delivery for a lunch meeting on last monday. I and family went here for a dinner last night. We got there around 7 pm and we were quickly seated. The atmosphere is warm and inviting; the Host is pretty. I got a thai ice tea ( very good ) and Tom Kha,Beef Satay, Duck Rool,Curry Chicken, which I love. Mango Sticky rice that was Wonderful decorate and seriously DELICIOUS. The food came out very quickly. The staff was very nice and we were constantly waited on. I'd definately return....YES !!! Great Thaifood, good price, delivery, and valet
Pros: great Thai food, good place, service and my favorite DELIVERY!!!!!!
Cons: great Thai food, good place, service and my favorite DELIVERY!!!!!!
i think citysearch needs to re-review this listing. i did a search on 'citysearch' for cheap thai food places, and chan dara popped up. CLEARLY they are no where near a one dollar sign meal price. u can see that by going on their website. Thai food is delicious, and doesnt need to be that pricey anyway. silly white people and their overpriced BS. if u want real thai food, this is NOT the place. real noodle dishes in a thai restaurant go for about $6. if you're paying more than that, you're a sucka. go get some culture, u idiotic los angeles yuppies.
i've been to chandara many times and always impressed with their service and smiles. waitresses are cute and polite. when i ask whether the food is good or bad, they always tell the truth. that's one thing i love about the waitresses there. when it gets packed, they would come to our table immediately and tell us the food would be a little late because of this and that which i personally understand if it doesnt take a day to serve it. busboys are nice and friendly. they gently ask if we are done with our dish so they could get new settings for us which is great!!!! valet guys are the best!! aint a day i dont t tip them!! haha...highly recommended to ladies that love good thai food and to those guys that never seen hot thai girls before haha...this place rocks!!!
I'm one of the fan of chan dara larchmont. I'm a good customer here for two years. I love chan dara because the food overthere is not ordinary. I love seafoods, they are fresh. For the people who love spicy, catfish basil and chilli sause is recommended. It's so good!!! Black seabass with miranated miso stirred fried ong choi is another one which you guys will love it. I'm impressed everytime i've been there. Hostesses are very welcom and waitresses are cute. waitress knows the food well enough to suggest me a good food. I love the service either, the food comes the right time. I just love this place. i give them 5 stars in my mind
After five years, I continue to find the House of Chan Dara on Larchmont near Hancock Park to be the top choice forThai cuisine. The food is excellent and not your oridinary Thai but an exotic blend of Thai and asian cuisine. I recommend the Calamari Chardonney for an appetizer with the The Chilean Sea Bass with wasabi sauce atop midori buck wheat noodles as my favorite entree. The Hostesses are warm and accomodating and the waitresses are always great doing their best to make your meal an enjoyable one. . For a large party, I would recommend to call ahead and inform them of any specal requests. A 5 star in my book
Pros: Good ambience, friendly, great food
I picked the place because of the reviews I saw on citysearch..so we were celebrating a birthday yesterday and I called ahead to make reservations, ask about a cake at the end for the celebration,or if we could bring our own.The hostesses may look good, but barely speak English. The person who made my reservation was nice enough to give us a semi private table for the group, which was the only good part.
So we go there, about 9:30 pm,most of the hostesses are just chilling..no one came to take our orders..we had different people coming to us when we asked for a hostess,it was a complete mess..they never came to take orders, finally when we called someone, she comes and tells us the kitchen is closing and we have to order the entire main course at once..we finished the food and waitied waited..somebody camke from the valet parking and returned our keys, said we have to take our car ourselves and took the cash from us.
I had to go ask for the cake..another new hostess said "you have to pre order before..only then we decorate it..excuse me???"So I had to pick something from their dessert menu, which was good, but she brings that,no dessert plates and no one came to clear the table at all..
In short, the place is a total mess..food is average, there are much much better Thai places in LA.
Cons: Worst service
I'hv been to many Thai Restaurant in Socal. But I never ever seen anyone Great service like this. Here at Chan Dara Larchmont that I have a meet beautiful waitress. She also sweet and take good care of me. I definitely will tell everyone about this and I have to come back again and again. I like you so much "Amy"
Pros: Thumbs up, Service
I had dinner with 7 of my friends on mother's day and I have to say that it was absolutely delicious. I especially recommend the lobster salad and the green curry linguini with shrimp and scallops. The whole fried catfish rivals that of Chinois, at a fraction of the cost. For dessert we had the mango with sticky coconut rice and we all loved it. I've been coming here for years and i have to say that I've never been dissapointed. The servers are always friendly and sweet. The out door patio is a great place to dine as long as you don't mind the occasional smokers. Over all we had a fabulous time.
Pros: great food, friendly and caring staff
I have been to too many thai restaurants all over SoCal and beyond. I have never once seen any of their waitresses as beautiful as the ones they have here at Chan Dara Larchmont!!! :-) They are all so nice! Our server came with a smile and promptly taking our orders. The food was so great! We had Seafood Soup which was so huge portion and the whole catfish you can feed a whole family! I was so shock! :-) Moreover I can't believe it they didn't even use the MSG here unlike Nathalee and other thai places I have been. I can tell if any dish use MSG or not because I get severe headache every time after the meal. The decor was so elegant. My son loves Chicken Noodle. He begged me to order one more for midnight snack before we left. The music, I think it was Acid Jazz of some type which gave an upbeat and exciting atmosphere. Valet parking person was so nice like a gentleman. It was so much fun being here! Definately I will go back and bring more friends next time! Keep up the good work, Chan Dara!
The foods are ok but the prices are expensive compare to its quality and taste. The service was just an average. It took us forever to get the check. I would not come back the restaurant again.
We had dinner reservations for 6 for my rommate's bday dinner. We arrived early and the hostess kept interrupting us as we waited for our table to be set, and tried to get us to order early from the menu -- wtf? It's a sit down restaurant, not a corner deli during lunch hour. We ordered drinks and my gf's glass was broken, so I asked for it to be replaced, which the waitress promptly forgot about. Our soup came out, and she spattered it everywhere as she served it, as she was clearly in a rush. We had told her we wanted to eat "family style" and share the plates. Our entrees came out one at a time, about five minutes apart, and eventually got cold as we waited and waited for the rice. I couldn't stand it anymore, and finally asked another server for the manager. I explained that the service was horrible, and we just wanted our rice so we could finish our meal and leave as quickly as possible; he nodded, said he would take care of it, and it still took another five minutes to get the rice. The waitress made an extra effort and was all smiles for the next 20 minutes, but the damage was done. She had the gall to thank us and smile as my roommate graciously accepted the check and gave her a 7.5% tip, which in my opinion, was too much. The food was average, mostly overseasoned, with average proportions. Definitely not worth the hassle.
Pros: decent ambience, cheap valet
Cons: average to less than average food, incredibly bad service
this place is the sh*t. =]. ........ .......... ........ ......... ...... ........ ....... .........
Cons: drinks are small
Chandara is AMAZING. The catfish with curry and cocunut cream is delicious as well as ALL of the soups. I love Thai Food and this place is it...I have also taken several thai friends and they also love it. I would recommend Chandar to anyone with an experienced palate and a love of all things Thai.
If you're going out for Thai food strictly for the atmosphere, maybe Chan Dara is your place. But if you're going for high quality food and good service, you'd be better off somewhere else. Their mediocre food was considerably more expensive than superior Thai restaurants, especially veggie egg rolls that tasted like they had freezer burn. When we complained, they didn't even take it off the bill. It also took us over a half hour to even get our appetizer, which was followed immediately by the main course. We finished and it took another half hour to get the check. Although the servers were well-intentioned, it was a disappointing experience and I won't be returning.
Pros: Romantic atmosphere, Varied menu
Cons: Awful service, Mediocre food, Poor value
I don't enjoy going to Thai Town very much and Chan Dara is not a bad place for me to kill my urge for having Thai food once in a while. It's a bit pricey but potion is big so it's a fair deal in the end. I had the Chan Dara fried rice which was very good and it must have been done with some kind of secret recipe, plus a Stir fried shrimp w/ basil which was not bad. Service was good and the environment is much better compared to those restaurants in Thai Town.
Pros: big portion, nice atmosphere, good service
This Place has it all. Great food, beautigul ambiance (including the waitresses), and good service. Highly recommend the sea food p-thai, beef Kabob, black sea bass, crispy salmon, and the any of their desserts.
If I want typical Thai food, I go to Thai Town. When I want something exceptional, I go to Chan Dara. I love their black sea bass with ong choi---it is best when ordered well done.
Pros: Food quality, Home-like atmosphere
Cons: Self parking is diffi, No full bar servic
I kinda thought Chan Dara was a run of the mill Thai chain - BOY, WAS I WRONG! I just got done eating one of the single best dishes I've ever tasted!! Not too mention the Shitake Shrimp appetizer - YUM! But the BEST dish was this coconut/curry/vanilla bean sauce over rice and scallops. The flavors were so subtle and so complex. I don't know how to say it better than that.
I HIGHLY recommend trying whatever the Chef's Special of the day is! I doubt you'll be disappointed.
Pros: Valet, Taste/Food, outdoor seating
Cons: a bit noisy
Good service, good location, and most importantly, great food. One of my two favorite Thai places in town, but definitely one of the best values for your money compared to the competition in Culver City. Highly recommend for all occassions, quick lunch, nice dinner, or big group getting together. Love it
Pros: great food, good value
Went on Wed, July 14th. Had the chicken satay for appetizer, sea bass, pad thai, chicken noodle, and beef kabob. The food was good for the market it caters to. It is cooked american thai not authentic. The waitresses are nice and good looking! We saw Jasmine Guy there. It is an upscale restaurant with our bill at $124 with tip for four.
This used to be the premier thai restaurant in LA. I've been out of town for sometime and I looked forward to returning to the Larchmont location. The food has changed. The staff and management are arrogant, the food is of poor quality and I believe ownership is different. Wow do I miss 5 years ago.
Pros: location, Bar
Cons: , Management
The atmosphere was nice, and the servers were good looking and friendly. But the food was lacking. Especially if you're used to traditional Thai - it was just bland. Not bad, just not very good.
Every time I eat here I am seated promptly by friendly staff, it is not long before my order is taken and the food arrives relatively quickly. The pad thai and curries are delicious and the prices are reasonable. The atmosphere is comfortable as well and includes a beautiful patio. I suggest this location, as well as the one on Cahuenga, for anyone that likes great service and excellent thai food.
Pros: great service, delicious food, nice atmosphere
I've been eating at Chan Dara for years; in fact, we've celebrated many birthdays here in the back room. Authentic or not, I still love the food, particularly the beef with garlic and pepper, tom yom goong, and laab. Having been with a Thai boyfriend for 9 years, I like SPICY; Chan Dara generally accommodates me in that respect. For authenticity, yes, go to Thai Town or any number of restaurants on Hollywood Boulevard. Even so, I enjoy the food, prices, and atmosphere here regardless. As for the waitresses, the ones that work in the evening tend to be better-looking than the ones that work at lunch. Either way, none of my male friends seem to complain!!
Pros: Valet parking, Inexpensive
Cons: Can be crowded
The waitresses were only so so. Food was delicious, I strongly recomend any of the appetizers. The dishes were not too spicy just enough to make them interesting. The service was average since the waitress had a hard time figuring out the bill and ended up asking for more money after we had paid. Overall a good place for lunch or dinner.
