Thank you the English Nanny and Governess School. Our nanny search had a disappointing beginning. Online agencies provided us with stacks of resumes but it was obvious they were concerned about quantity not quality. We were getting discouraged and did not want to invest any more time reviewing resumes and interviewing unqualified candidates. After speaking with the ENGS placement department I received qualified resumes. Because their placement person actually knew the graduates, she was able to narrow down the search for us. The process was personalized and I found the right candidate within a week. Now I have someone caring for my children who I consider to be part of the family. She is trustworthy and commited (not just looking for a paycheck until she finds a position in another field) and my children adore her.

As a client of the English Nanny and Governess School, I think my written comment here may be insufficient. The experience I have had with this school and the nannies they have have presented has been extraordinarily positive. When using other agencies, I have repeatedly run into trouble. However, with the ENGS, any prospective problems have been taken care of prior to an issue arising. In my opinion, it is never easy to entrust your childs' care with another individual. But, my experience has proven that there are amazing, caring, qualified nannies available who have been taught lessons from knowledgeable and informative instructors and who have been given the tools they need to succeed - and, thus, are invested enough to help my children succeed. My experience with the staff of ENGS has always been effective and productive. And, while I can write on and on about how wonderful the English Nanny and Governess School is (including both the staff and graduates) the proof is that I have happy, healthy children at home and I have the comfort and peace-of-mind that they are being loved, cared for, and taught valuable life lessons - whether I am with them or their nanny is. And, ENGS provided that to me. As stated earlier, words are not enough to express the gratitude and praise I have... for ENGS, for my childrens' nanny, and for the satisfaction I have in knowing that my children are always being cared for...

I've read most of the reviews on this site, and I can tell you that I believe I received a good education at the ENGS. Like any school, you will get out of it what you put into it. They endeavored to bring in well qualified faculty and presented a well rounded program.

My class was small, and we did have some "problem" students who wanted everything handed to them. My recommendation to the school would be to not accept any student just out of high school. I believe one requirement for admission to the school for those who do not have a college degree should be having had to work at least 12 months in a full-time job so that the students would know something of the "real world".

I would also have liked a bit more hands-on experience with an infant under the direct supervision of the infant care teacher, but I also suspect legally the school has done all they can in that regard. The Friday Practicums are an excellent idea, but the mother you get is the luck of the draw. From the reports I got from the other students in my class, some of the mothers treat the students as babysitters - not nannies in training. My mother was a great role model on childcare, but she seldom let me handle the baby, and I focused more on the toddler in the home. I do know the school attempts to control that as best they can, and the mothers do have to go through an extensive application process. Overall, I learned a lot I did not know before from the infant care teacher, and she did suggest good books to have on hand for review if needed.

Again, though, life is not handed to you. With any training for any occupation, there will be on-the-job learning as well. I believe the ENGS prepared me well to enter into a great field. Undoubtedly situations will arise that will require learning and research, which is true of any new occupation. The ENGS put forth a great foundation for my getting started, and they are also there when I will have questions that need answered. I can call them at any time and speak with one of their experts if I find myself in a difficult situation. I appreciate that they will always have my back.

I recommend this school to any prospective student. However, as it is an intensive and accelerated program, do not go unless you are prepared to do the work and put forth some effort. You have to be willing to learn. You also have to realize the classes are designed for the whole. Sometimes you will be presented with material that you don't necessarily find valuable, but others in the class may benefit from it. The mall experience referred to in one of the reviews is a case in point. What the teacher was attempting to do was gently educate some girls to work on their appearance in order to have a more polished, professional look. Also, there will be mothers who will want their nannies to go out and pick out furniture, clothing, etc for the children, and that mother will expect the nanny to use good judgment and taste. Hence, the teacher sending us into Pottery Barn for Kids, better kids clothing stores, etc. As a student, you need to try and get the big picture sometimes. And if you already know what's being taught, count it a blessing instead of selfishly knocking the whole idea and putting the teacher and others down just because you are not being individually catered to!

I also recommend this school to any parent. Like any pool you would be drawing from, select with care in that you will be offered a variety of personalities and values. The interviewing process is important so that you get someone who will fit into your family. I also, personally, would not select a nanny who is fresh out of high school and never worked a previous full-time job. Just because she has a lot of babysitting experience does not necessarily mean she's mature enough to help raise your children.

I am 100% satisfied with the ENGS. As an educated stay at home mother of 3, I appreciate the value of the hands on nurturing. My position has allowed me to oversee the success and development of our 3 now, adult children. An assesment of the love, care and attention that is required to aid in the healthy development of a child should be non negotiable. My impression of the ENGS is in keeping with the values inherant in positive child care.

My daughter, a graduate from Miami University business school, left school feeling that she was not following her passion.

After meeting with the top notch staff at the ENGS it was obvious THIS was the perfect fit. The school offerered a thourough, exciting, educational look at child care. The enviorment was delightful and stimulating. We signed on, might I add, with total excitment and joy!

My daughter graduated recently from the program and I can not say enough about the fine people that inspired these young woman to be the best caregivers possible!I delighted daily in her enthusiasm for the opportunities offered. The school recruits Clevelands finest in their fields to impart their wisdom. Not to mention it is already in place with the likes of Mrs. Roth the founder of this lovely rare program. A desendent of Great Britian, her wisdom, charm and knowledge, a gift. Mr. Gaylord CEO of the school, a true gentleman as he has had the privelage of being Mrs. Roth's son, no more needs to be said.

I would reccommend this FINE and ELITE school to a child loving individual who has a desire for wonderful career opportunties. As it stands we have secured some of the dream interviews with job security as the inevitable, and the school overseeing the arrangement. After all as they have promised all along: Our familes and students are our #1 concern.

I am a recent Governess Graduate from the English Nanny and Governess School in Chagrin Falls, Ohio. My experience went above and beyond the expectations I had before entering the program a mere 12-weeks ago. From start to finish, there was not a detail skipped or shortened. The personalized education, hands on experience, and gain of knowledge surpassed my previous thoughts of what I would accomplish and learn throughout the duration of the program.

In my class of seven, all of the nanny and governess' had accomplished and fulfilled their wants during the program. We had incredible opportunities to be taught by qualified and knowledgable professors, and professionals. The curriculum covered all areas in which would benefit childcare and families needs; ranging from infant care through adolescent years. The hands on experience with the praticum families, and field trips helped to round out the pleuthra of information and knowledge we were gaining. The members in admission and placement were extremely helpful and were very thoughtful in providing the students and clients with information, and care tailored to their needs.

My experience at the school from start to finish was incredible. I would reccommend the program to anyone, a potential student for the incredible education and experience, to a family who would receive top of the line care for their children. I feel very confident in my stance as a Governess Graduate, and am very proud to say that I graduated from the ENGS.

As a former student I can tell you this place is a joke. Most of the girls in my class were doing something that they shouldn't . They say they will get you a job ha don't pay all your money up front!!!! O and for the poor families who think they put their heart and soul into finding you a Nanny they don't we had one family come into interview with people who they thought were picked for them --- no they came into class and begged 5 to 10 people to sign up cause they forgot they family was flying into town. Just watch your back with these people.

Some of the concerns expressed on this site have been brought to the attention of English Nanny & Governess School. We take any concerns expressed very seriously and always strive to do our best. Our history and reputation of advocating for children and establishing standards in the childcare industry are very important to us. We are a 25 year 501(C)(3) nonprofit educational institution with full accreditation. We have tried to find the ?clients? who have expressed these negative comments but we have no record of them. We welcome them to contact us at the school and we would be happy to address any concerns.
For twenty-five years we have provided education and training for women and men ages 18 to 60 seeking a career as a Certified Professional Nanny or Certified Professional Governess. The average student is college educated and many have four-year degrees. We are regulated by the Ohio Board of Career Colleges and Schools, which forbids any member school guaranteeing employment. Our students, placed nationally with America?s foremost families and some internationally, are taught how to successfully establish a nurturing, intellectually stimulating environment where children thrive and are treated with the utmost professional care. We strive to provide them with the best education by offering a unique curriculum, taught by a distinguished academic faculty. Our students undergo a high-level security clearance and psychosocial evaluation prior to being accepted at the school. In addition to the extensive curriculum taught by Ph.D?s, students are required to receive approximately 77 hours of training with a practicum family consisting of a newborn and toddler. The application fee is good for one year. This service is available until the right match is found. We hope this helps in understanding the school and clarifies any misconceptions. Please feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns

As a graduate of ENGS (I prefer to keep my name and class number confidential) I feel like I have been completly taken advantage of. From the begining I was harassed into applying to the school. The CEO told me repeatdly that I would be placed immediately after graduation becuase the demand was so great. After enrolling in the school and spending an enormous amount of money I began to see the truth to the "to good to be true" success stories unfold. Many of the students in my session were completly UNFIT for the job. SOME had ZERO experience with children. Others were psychologically unstable. The "school" will accept anyone willing to pay the fee. They make money off the students regardless of if they are able to be placed. I can say that a few of the teachers are very educated and know their facts. Others are a complete waste of time and money. One "class" involves going to a mall and shopping at SEPHORA. Laughable. The trip also included a stop at Crate and Barrel. I am still trying to find the connection to children. THERE ARE VERY FEW JOBS AVAILABLE. There are a FEW lucky graduates out there with decent jobs. I would also caution any parent thinking about using ENGS. Please, look into the background of the studnets personally. It is true that there is extensive screening prior to enrolling at ENGS. However, regardless of what is found YOU WILL BE ACCEPTED. The school wants your money. BE CAUTIOUS. I fell for it all....

In response to complaints expressed on this website, the Ohio State Board of Career Colleges and Schools forbids any member school to guarantee employment. All qualified graduates throughout our 25 year history are eligible to apply for the positions that are available. As in all fields, employers select the best candidates. All applicants to the school must submit to a psychological assessment conducted by a Licensed Clinical Counselor and not all are approved. During the course of the program, we are able to observe performance that is not appropriate and assist in improvement. Students visit shops to learn how to select professional work attire (other than jeans and lettered tee shirts), suitable makeup, and correct china and silverware for table settings. Our discerning clients expect their employees to be well groomed role models, knowledgeable about fine dining, and a gracious style of living for their children.

Several months ago my husband and I made the decision to hire a Governess to help me with our three children. My two boys are in private school and we have a toddler.
While my husband has a very busy, high demand job his time w/our family is very limited. He wants to spend his time enjoying us, not arguing w/the boys about homework.
We wanted a qualified in-home childcare provider who had a 4-year degree and was familiar w/ college prep course, very strong in Math. (Not my strong point) I'm in the process of selling our house down south and I have to travel quite frequently and I need a qualified person that I can trust w/ my children and their studies while I?m away. I did extensive research and spoke w/ many agencies and nanny schools. I only found one qualified place to find the candidate that I required and that was English Nanny and Governess School in Chagrin Falls. I'm shocked to see that there are past entries on two local help/locator web-sites that have the same entry on the same day. To me this is not creditable and very unfair! I have gotten to know the staff at ENGS very well and I couldn't be happier. The graduates that they presented to me where amazing. Master's degrees in Education & Music! Teaching degrees specializing in special needs! How could anyone say that these people are not qualified? I feel that these past entries are a competitor trying to smug the 25 year reputation of this school or it could be like a last person said, someone who was turned down from hiring a graduate! I would recommend ENGS to hire a Certified Professional Nanny or Governess. I have done extensive research and I would recommend no other. Exceptional training, helpful staff, qualified candidates. Do the research; don?t listen to what people have to say, including myself, see for yourself. You will not be sorry!

The English Nanny and Governess School is the top school in the country for training students to become a nanny or governess. As a recent graduate of the school, I will say the school went above and beyond my expectations in teaching me the skills necessary to become a governess. I know I was more than ready to take on the responsibilities required of a highly trained governess. The administration is very supportative of their nannies and governesses that graduate from their program. They protect their students from taking positions that would burn a governess or nanny out due to jobs that require very long hours or little respect. The school does have high expectations of all their students and graduates as well. I would highly recommend this school to anyone considering the profession of governess or nanny. Even though I have several teaching degrees along with certifications in psychology, I continued to learn even more about children while going through this program. It is an amazing program with an outstanding curriculum and an incredible group of staff members!

I'm amazed by the past reviews about English Nanny and Governess School. I have a Governess from English Nanny and Governess in my home for over 5 years! I have been completely happy with the professional manner in which I have been treated. The fee was more then fair. The time it took my my husband and I to come out, visit the school, sit in on a class and meet with the owner and staff was very helpful. The background checks, talking with their refernces and interviewing several candidates until we found the perfect young lady for our three small children. Also, to say that these girls do not have any training in infant care is false. I have talked with the practicum family my governess worked with and she took care of twin infants and a 2 year old! My Governess is amazing and I consider her one of my family. I have had other nannies in the past from other agencies and I will never deal with an so-called trained Nanny/Governess coming from some agency that does not even have a long standing reputation like English Nanny and Governess. This school had been recomended to me and I have never been happier. They have been doing this for over 20 years. Who else can say that? The owner is amazing, kind and professional. I would never call her snarky or beligerent. Not unless someone mistreated one of her studentsor graduates. The customer service is great also. They still call and check in after all this time to make sure that I'm still happy, what other agency does that? I would recomend this school to anyone who is looking for the best for their children and my Governess is still friends with many of her classmates and she says they all have great jobs like her! I think the school is the best in the county and I don't understand the past reviews other then maybe someone didn't meet the schools standards? All I can say is visit the school and take the tour like we did. That is how I made my decision and I couldn't be happier!

Pros: Location, reputation, quality of graduates, curriculum

Cons: None that I'm aware of!

I am a graduate of ENGS and a professional nanny now for over 10 years. To say that the alumni are untrained and unprofessional is Completely False and ridiculous. I was very well trained in Child Development / Child Psychology and extensively in Infant Care. I have been placed ( 3 x) total. The staff works closely with their alumunus/ alumni to place him or her in the appropriate position. I learned through experience that other agencies do not do that, before you get to speak to anyone, they send you straight to a voice mail, then send out your resume/ profile to potential employers and then you don't hear from them again for weeks. At other times, I encountered just plain rudeness/incompentence from other agencies. I found that there is no comparison between ENGS and other agencies. The coursework that the school offers is topnotch and is equivalent to the coursework I studied at a community college for my ECE certification. I would have never considered going to any other nanny school that did not have their great reputation. The owner (s) and staff have unselfishly gone out of their way to assist me with my needs/concerns. In my opinion, I attended a Real School. I have difficulty believing that the school provided poor customer service. Perhaps, the below reviews come from clients not willing to properly compensate an experienced candidate. The school has high standards. As ENGS alumni; we have made an investment in our child care careers as professional nannies and governesses. At ENGS, I am known by name and I am treated as a valuable asset, with respect . ENGS has had a outstanding reputation for a quarter of century placing and educating nannies and governesses. No other agency or school can claim that. Yes, it was expensive, but I believe that the education recieved there was more than worth it. I would highly recommend this school to anyone who is interested in a Real education as a nanny and or governess.

Pros: Top notch education, caring staff, worth every penny spent.

Cons: none at all as far as I am concerned.

They claim that nannies are well-trained and experienced. Nanny arrived. Did not know how to bathe infant or have knowledge of most basic infant-care skills. Mind-boggling. Then had to deal with belligerent, snarky owner. They can put on a good front to lure you in. But watch out! What you are hiring is a babysitter with a few months of "nanny school." Keep that in mind if you try to work with them.

I have just read two reviews that were sent on the some day, and they both sound made up by someone who is trying to hurt the school.

For a quarter of a century, English Nanny and Governess School has provided America's leading families with the highest level of childcare. The school is the best in America, and the faculty is excellent. Students of all ages, some with Master's degrees, come from all over America to train and be placed by the school.

My husband and I are professionals (physicians) and contacted this school to secure a nanny/governess for our infant daughter. The school charges $350 and produces poor results. The nanny applicants provides are simply recent grads. The school uses this as a marketing gimmick to offer placement to their students. None of the applicants were professional and had limited experience with siblings or odd babysitting jobs. Most were 18 or 19 years old. The goverment won't even allow an 18 or 19 year old au pair to be alone with an infant or small child without supervision! I happen to be a pediatrician and am well versed in the qualifications of a nanny/governess. These applicants were terrible!

The recommendation letters are simply those from when the applicants applied or during their course work. They stopped sending us applicants after the first batch of 4 and were happy to take our money. It has been 4 months now and they still have never sent us a new batch of applicants to choose from. They promise someone will work closely with you, but they drop you after they have your money and send you a group of 3 or 4 inappropriate applicants. We have worked with other agencies and strongly advice familiies to avoid wasting their money. Similarly, I would advice applicants considering attending the school to avoid wasting their money!!! You will be much better off looking into other training such as an AA degree in child development or obtaining work experience with children (plus CPR training, etc) . This school is really set up for the owners to make money off poor parents looking for the best for their children.

Pros: none

Cons: unprofessional, only out to make the owners money

I am very unhappy with this school. NOt worth the price. They charge a very high fee just to register to receive applicants. The applicants are not professional. Most are just out of high school. They count occasional babysiting for friends and family members as experience even when these girls have never worked as a nanny. They also consider 12 hours of infant training enough to be qualified to care for an infant. No qualified applicants were ever sent to me or any of my friends.

I was scared something terrible would happen to my child with the low quality applicants!

Tell you and your friends to stay away---spend your money on a real agency or real nanny school! Applicants--don't waste your money. You can get a great position without attending this school! You will not find a long term position, regardless of what they promise you!

I am a former student of ENGS and am currently in a nanny position placed through ENGS.
The classes offered by ENGS are top notch. I am happy with my position and hope to find another one through them when this job ends.
Just because a few students are disgruntled doesn't mean they don't have great nannies and governesses for hire. I did find a few of my fellow students too immature to be professional nannies and they are the ones who do not get placed.
