No No No- Say NO to ERIC the groomer from hell
by Sonya S.
I dropped-off my puppy with specific instructions for the groomer. The groomer had ensured me that my dog will be ready in time for me to catch my train back home for the weekend. It took the groomer 5hours just to groom my 5lbs puppy. And now, I hardly recognize my dog AND I missed the off-peak train AND the groomer was so VERY RUDE when I complained. Eric is exceptionally rude, very dramatic and didn't even offer to give any discount or offer an apology...the owner had to apologize for his behavior. Unless they get rid of this pompous, self-proclaimed groomer, I really don't think I'm going back there, even though their other groomer- May did a good job the last time.

Great grooming, and also great pet accessories! Nestled outside of the financial district, this place is a great place to take your dog after work. They do a pretty good grooming job too. A little on the pricey side, but its NYC

Great groomer!
by Downtowngrl1
I took my 6 month old Maltese Snowball to get groomed. The woman was very sweet and asked lots of questions before she took him in back. They have glass doors where you can view your dog being groomed and i looked in and he was happy and giving kisses to the groomer. He normally is shy around new people but really took to the groomer. I was pleasantly happy with how he looked after. It was exactly what i wanted and she even added a bandanna for the finishing touch. I will be taking him back regularly. The staff was also very informative and helpful without being pushy. I even got samples of doggy cologne and some treats. I am so glad i found them! PAWS UP for the SALTY PAW!
Pros: cute shop, great selection & excellent groomer
Cons: none

Really cute Dog Store near Brooklyn Bridge
by sandyM
Took my little Maltese-Gracie in, and wanted a really specialty cut called a lamb cut, and May the groomer there did a really great job. I haven't found a place downtown that could even come close. The store is really cute, lots of unique collars, and these really cool beds that you can pick your colors. I ordered one for Gracie with her name on it. Really like this place I will be going back. Highly recommend it.
Pros: loved the grooming and the treat selection
Cons: none that i can find

Just found this place on Peck Slip
by Jennifer7575
Interesting place, my dog loved it, we don't have alot of dog places near us, I have lived down here for months and didn't know it was there. This was a great find, i recommend checking it out. I had my two dogs groomed there, and bought some Lolli-pups, really cute and the dogs flipped over them.
Pros: Daycare for Dogs

Happy Groomers!
by jcrodriguez
Finally!!! A place that I will take my dog to get groomed. The groomer did a wonderful job and when I asked her to fix the face a little she didn't give me an attitude like the groomer did at The Poochie Place. The package price is great too, it includes teeth brushing which not a lot of other places do. Their merchandise are unique and cute and very reasonably priced. Great place to get gifts and treats for your pets.
Pros: Happy groomers, cute store, great selection of items, good value
Cons: NONE

Best dog spa in NYC....paws down!!!!!!
by eeadoglover
The Salty Paw is one of the best dog spa's in NYC. They are so great that I travel with my pooch from the UES. The service is amazing and I LOVE their merchandise. They have the greatest toys, accessories, sweaters and treats. My dog loves going there and gets so excited in the cab because she knows she's in for a treat!! The additional cab expense is well worth it since their prices are amazing compared to what I have paid for similar items on the UES. Eric, the groomer, is the greatest and genuinely loves animals!
Thank goodness for the Paw!!!!!!
Pros: Great staff. Great grooming and spa services. Awesome merchandise!
Cons: Wish it was closer!

Great dog groomers, great ownership
by nyfootman
Been to many other groomers in my day but since I have been in the downtown area, I have yet to be as happy as I am with The Salty Paw. From their great pet products to the way they make my pooch look to the friendly owners, I really must give them a big pat on the back!
I highly reccomend bringing your pet here as they are very trust worthy and time efficient.
Pros: Pet products, grooming skills, ownership
Cons: none

Best grooming, cool merchandise, amazing service with a smile
by Flippies
I've been a regular customer since The Salty Paw opened their doors and I can tell you from experience that this place is a hidden gem. Grooming is always excellent, on time, reasonably priced and best of all.... they always give me back a happy dog! They also have great merchandise. Stuff I cant find anywhere else. Also, the girls that work there are awesome! Very nice addition to the neighborhood.
Pros: Best grooming! Unique product selection. Amazing staff. Very clean.
Cons: Wish they had one of these places for humans!

OK Pet Store - Terrible Grooming
by downtownrocks
I live just north of Peck Slip and I thought the Salty Paw was a cute store with a great selection. Liked their merchandise, but everything seemed really overpriced. I noticed they had grooming. I had my partner take our Maltese in for a basic cut.. When he went to pick her up she was cut way too short and seemed terrified!! I would not recommend getting your dog groomed here.
Pros: Good Selection
Cons: Terrible Dog Grooming, Too Expensive

Terrible Dog Grooming
by lovedogIII
After reading the many positive reviews here, I took my dog in to get groomed, and they did a very poor job. It took too long and my dog looked awful. I will avoid this place in the future.
Cons: Expensive and Bad Dog Grooming

Neighborhood haunt & social venue for dog-types, Enthusiastic local owners and pet lovers
by seaportstar
I've lived in the neighborhood for 12 years and I've got to say that the Salty Paw was a needed addition to the neighborhood.
From a retail standpoint? It's a homey, fun alternative to our local, gray & depressing Petland Discount with more interesting merchandise (they make a point to try to find local suppliers and have things made special for the store.)
From a social standpoint? It's a destination for neighbors with dogs to get together. The owners are both social dynamos -- they live in the neighborhood and want to get to know you and the animals. It must be said that Amanda is a little dog-crazy -- if she starts rolling around on the floor with your pup and you think she's laying it on a bit thick? I assure you, she's not acting. She's just a freak about dogs. Just look at her giganto Great Dane Tyras that sometimes "helps out" behind the cash register. Also, the events I've been to (a Valentine's Party and a fashion show) have been both well-organized (cocktails & hors d'ouvres) and amusing (dogs in fancy duds) and lucrative (ahem, yes, my bf's dog won a second place gift certificate in a costume contest). And no one went home from either of those events empty-handed...giftbags for everybody.
From a grooming standpoint? I have a dog with short hair that doesn't get groomed, but I'm there enough where I've seen Eric do some pretty cool stuff. Do you know what a Komondor is? A Newfie? The big hairy guys come out transformed -- they smell good, and their insane fur coats have been heroically tamed. At the other end of the spectrum I've seen a lot of cute tiny fluffy dogs come out with the fancy, technical 'do's too.
If you live in the neighborhood, you should give it a try. The girls spent so much time trying to get this place right and they're constantly working on making it better (products, staffing, etc...) If you're not getting what you need there, it's because you're not asking!
Pros: Outgoing local owners, Cool digs with a casual seaport vibe, Dog-related events, Treats!
Cons: My dog really wants to whiz on the planters by the door. ;)

The only groomer where my dog leaves happy!
by jkh0728
We used to live in the Financial District and took our collie (loooong hair, tough to groom) to pretty much every groomer in the neighborhood, trying to find a good one for her. She is very skittish and generally comes home depressed. We were PLEASANTLY SHOCKED at how happy she was after her first visit to The Salty Paw! I think she wanted to stay there and hang out, whereas she's usually running for the door. And the grooming job was great, she looked beautiful and wasn't just shaved short like some give-up groomers will do. We have moved to the UWS, but still drive her downtown to go to The Salty Paw, despite a Biscuits & Bath that is right around the corner from us. She is just so happy there, and the groomer is fantastic. It is worth mentioning as well that it is a great value - they definitely don't overcharge. And the shop itself is a great little posh place to pickup treats for your pup. Its like SoHo's Doggie Style at the seaport.
Pros: High-quality grooming at a good value
Cons: None!

My kitty CAN be groomed!
by KittyLuvah69
I have an older cat, who seriously needed a grooming. He is overweight, and less then pleasant. I thought it would be impossible to have him groomed, but he really does stink and I felt he would just be more comfortable after being cleaned and a trim. The groomers at the salty paw were able to groom hm completely , and were able to control him without trouble. I am so happy to know he is not a troublesome cat, and that I can have him regularly taken care of without having to go to the vet! The employees were super nice, and the store was really cool , it was all and all a pleasant experience.
Pros: Friendly staff, cool products, great services

Best Dog Groomers in NY!
by HeatherC27
I just moved to the neighborhood from Brooklyn and am still getting to know the area. I took my dog here for grooming and a sweater for the winter weather and the staff were very helpful and friendly in also referring me to many other businesses in the neighborhood. They are not only great at what they do but very nice to too. Thanks!

Eric is the best groomer in the biz-forget alexa
by melissandfike
We were so happy to find our old groomer--Eric G at The Salty Paw. We have a havenese and a lab mix that use to go to Eric at his previous groom spa. We moved downtown and could not believe so did he. This groomer is the best they come!! I don't know Alexa, but she apparently does not work at the Salty Paw anymore-so not to worry by the bad reviews on her-she is gone.
The Store's owners were so friendly and know their stuff. They have some really GREAT things I have never seen before, and there always seems to be new things each visit.
We are so happy to find such a great dog store and have been reunited with our groomer. looking forward to the halloween party!!
Pros: Eric is the best groomer in biz!! Alexa is gone!!
Cons: more days of grooming avail (only fri and sat now)

Great dog spa!
by tinatola
Brought my maltese here last week, and she seriously got the best hair cut she's ever had. Alexa, the groomer, treated her like it was her own dog. So much so that my dog didn't want to leave. Loved this place!! Had cute stuff in the shop area as well. So glad this opened in my neighborhood!
Pros: it's a day at the spa for your dog
Cons: they don't cut peoples hair

Great new addition to the seaport!
by rwz2007
I have seen so much buzz on this new store and groom spa in the past several months-we had to stop in. We live in tribeca and have a toy poodle...and decided after we saw their store on TV and in the NYC cabs..to try them out. Nothing short of excellent! Eric was our groomer the first time-and the hype is all that-he is great. We went last week, and Jackie (their newest groomer) was just as good. All hand scissor cut, and did a beautiful job!! It did take 3 hours, but knowing it was all done by hand-did not matter.
The owners are very helpful and sweet. I loved all the one of kind items and we even had our pup measured for a custom coat. It arrived in 4 days and was the least expensive coat we have owned for our dog.
Wish this new place all the success and the grooming is by far best in the neighborhood. Worth the trip!!
Pros: Jackie the new groomer and eric the head groomer are superb!
Cons: Not one in tribeca for us...

Loyal to The Salty Paw!
by amyrattle
After reading the below reviews, I just had to write a comment to support this great pet store in the Seaport! I live downtown and stop by this store frequently with my Jack Russell Terrier, Lucy. She loves the store because the owner(s) are always sooooo friendly and greet her with love and treats. The merchandise is adorable and I have found the groomers and staff members to be extremely knowledgeable, helpful and caring. It is unfortunate that dogs sometimes get nicked during grooming, but I can't imagine that the store owners and staff members didn't do their utmost to rectify the situation. All I can say is Lucy and I are loyal customers and could not fathom shopping any where else!
Pros: Cute and unique store and merchandise. Staff is attentive, caring and knowledgeable.
Cons: Need more locations.

The worse dog grooming on the planet
by jcnyc1459
I took my maltese to this place to get a grooming as it was close to my house and had been taking him uptown, what a mistake. Alexa, who was the groomer butchered him. She told me he was matted (which he was a little) and would have to cut him shorter. When I arrived to pick him up he looked like a freak. His ears were cut so short you couldn't even see them. I specifically told her that I didn't want him cut so short that you could see skin. She never paid attention to what I said he looked like he was shaved. Uneven all around. She left his face hair long which didn't match the rest of his body. It was really the worst grooming I have ever seen. His ears were nipped and bleeding and she never mentioned anything to me. She should be FIRED. I will never go back and I will make sure that I tell everyone about this awful place. DON'T EVER take your dog to this place.
Pros: The worst groomer..Alexa

Unqualified and unprofessional groomer!
by kayla09
A few days ago I took my dog for a grooming and it was the biggest mistake I made! I asked for a trim and my dog came back scalped! When I went to pick him up I didn't even recognize him. I was speechless. His once fluffy ears are now gone. The cut was uneven. One of the girls insisted that he looked great which made it worse. I could have done a better job with a buzzer than pay for them to do this. What made matters worse was when I took him home, I found they nicked the back of my dog's ear and never even mentioned it to me. My dog has been sad for days now! Not a good experience! Alexa (the groomer) needs to go back to grooming school and retake her test. She is NOT qualified to "grrroom" any animal. Start by grooming an apple!
Cons: Can't groom for poo!
