Just bought a pair of vintage glasses from the shop. Rare and excellent selections. Lots of styles to choose from in different colors. Only thing is they don't do eye exams. Great shop, you feel very comfortable and not pressured.

I am a vintage sunglasses fanatic. Silver Lining has the best stock anywhere. I always find new interesting pieces not seen anywhere else. In addition the new brands carried aren't whats seen at every other shop in the city. Very special place to go for your frames and shades.
I have been wearing glasses my whole life and I've never found a shop with so many choices for me. The brands are all very unique and not what you see at your neighborhood optical. The vintage sunglasses are amazing and the selection is unparalleled.
Pros: Best Selection
Cons: Too many great choices!
Cool shop. great selection of hard to find eyeglasses, and the vintage sunglasses--bananas!
Pros: Amazing selection
Cons: Can get crowded
I'm glad I found Silver Lining. The owners helped me pick out a couple pair of glasses. I got a vintage pair of Persols that I doubt anyone else in the city has, and a pair of new eyeglasses that came out perfectly.
Pros: Great selection of frames, great store environment
Choosing glasses has always been an arduous process, but I was amazed at how decisive I became at Silver Lining. The guys helped me pick out the best frames. I'm getting so many compliments. Definitely put this on your list of eyewear shops to check out.
Pros: Great service
Cons: They don't give exams
I love this spot. I buy all my sunglasses here. They have the best vintage selection I've ever seen. The quality of the frames are top notch and I have a great time everytime I come.
Pros: Amazing service, best selection, coolest spot
I needed my first pair of glasses and came to Silver Lining upon a friend's recommendation. I had such a nice experience picking frames and the lenses were completed quickly. I love their selection of great classic shapes and think that anyone wanting distinctive eyewear should pay them a visit!
Pros: Best shop and best service!
I got an amazing pair of glasses here yesterday. I've been buying the same Paul Smith frames for a few years (I somehow tend to lose them) and it's been hard transitioning into something new. Jordan picked out perfect ones immediately. Very helpful and honest about what works and doesn't. Feels more like a project space/labor of love than some trendy boutique.
This shop is so different from any other shop in the city. Their selection of the finest vintage sunglasses compliments the contemporary brands they carry. The mix of merchandise taught me what I should be looking for in a pair of frames that will last. My lenses came out perfect (I recommend this place wholeheartedly!
Pros: Great frames, great vintage sunglasses, great owners
Cons: Wish I'd have found it sooner!!!
In this shop all the merchandise is out for you to touch and try on. The staff (maybe the owners) are very helpful but not pushy. The encouraged me to try things on that I wouldn't have picked for myself. Once I made a decision on the frame, the lenses were completed perfectly within a few days and they adjusted the frame to fit my face perfectly. I didn't get a look at all the vintage sunglasses, but there were tons of people going through the sunglasses and it seemed pretty special too!
Pros: Unique frames, great service, beautiful shop
Cons: There isn't a shop in BK yet!
The best thing about Silver Lining Opticians was the service. I went in having never worn glasses before with no idea what I wanted. The owner helped me find many great shapes for my face and gave honest opinions of what worked best. Considering how clueless I was it was extremely stress free! I would definitely recommend this place to not only first time eye glass wearers, but also eyeglass veterans because the store had a large, varied selection.
Pros: customer service, selection
I went into Silver Lining looking for something unique and vintage definitely proved the way to go. I had looked into new sunglasses but at some point so much looks the same and I wanted something my friends didn't all already own. I walked in and could not believe the endless drawers of frames. The two owners were very polite leaving me room to browse, but also answering any questions I had with supreme knowledge of the products. After a long but fun search I wound up with a pair of vintage Diors that are beautiful and were adjusted by the owner perfectly to fit my face. All around a great experience with a fulfilling result.
Pros: very helpful, staggering collection, nice environment
This place rules. I had read about their vision and reputation, and in person it lived up to the hype. This relaxed shop is a great place to find a unique pair of eyeglasses or a dope pair of vintage shades. I've never seen such an amazing collection. If you're a serious collector they'll let you look through the archives at your own pace and dream about life through rose colored lenses. Check it out for sure when you're next in Soho.
Pros: Old world service and quality, new world hip!
Cons: Full selection not yet available online
I've always stayed local for my eyewear needs. Soho has a tons of different shops, but this year I found Silver Lining Opticians, and I am not going any where else from now on. The two guys that own the shop have created a very inviting and comfortable shopping experience. They know their stuff too--from teaching me about vintage sunglasses to finding the right lens type for my needs (have had trouble in the past). The brands that they carry aren't seen anywhere else in the neighborhood and none of them have the annoying branding on the temples that I for one can't stand. When I got the finished job back, everything came out perfectly and I know I'm going back again soon.
Pros: Selection of frames without logos
i'm not going to repeat and bore you with how great the frame selection is (although it is nicely edited and always surprises). i want to rave about their service and the quality of the lenses. i was in the market for new frames, but due to my high prescription i am never able to see as well as with contacts. so, naturally when the knowledgeable folks at silver lining mentioned a new technology out of isreal that produced lenses beyond parallel... i was skeptical. i've had folks at other reputable nyc optical shops claim the same (and not deliver). but i decided to try. well, i i just received the frames... they are everything and more that they promised. i see just as clearly as with contacts. also, due to my high prescription, my eyes usually have to play a catch up game with new lenses whenever i get new frame. (i get mild headaches and the floor feels like it is arching towards me) i was dreading that... but to be honest, they feel like i have been wearing them for years the moment i put them on. the lenses were completely worth it.
I have been wearing glasses as long as I can remember, but never have I seen so well out of a pair of lenses as I do with the digitally surfaced lenses sold to me at Silver Lining. The two guys that own the place have a keen eye for what looks good on someone. I appreciated their patience, knowledge, and honesty in all interactions I had both in choosing a frame and the appropriate type of lenses to go along with it. I'm sending all my friends here.
Pros: Service, quality of product, interesting selection
My wife and I went EVERYWHERE to find her new glasses--she's been wanting something a bit hipper than the ones she's had for the past several years. In the end we wound up buying the very first pair she tried on at Silver Lining! Jordan, the owner, looked at her and picked out several pairs for her to try on. When we said we wanted to look around elsewhere too, he encouraged us to do so--not at all pushy. There are other good places we found--some listed on Citysearch--but Silver Lining was far and away the best for us. My wife's glasses looked so great I ended up getting a pair from Jordan, too! If you're looking for unique frames and good service, definitely check this place out!
Pros: great service and selection
Cons: while worth the cost, frames aren't inexpensive
I have been waiting for a vintage sunglass shop in New York for a long time. This shop does it right. They are knowledgeable and have the best selection I've ever seen in the city. They also carry regular eyeglasses that aren't vintage. I don't remember all the brands but I know I've never seen them anywhere else. The eyeglasses are all in the 200-400 range and the vintage sunglass prices vary widely.
I just got my prescription glasses and sunglasses from Silver Lining. I am very impressed with the results, especially considering how difficult my prescription is. They helped me pick out some gorgeous frames, (the likes of which I had seen nowhere else in town), and had the glasses back from the lab very quickly as well. I am very impressed and will definitely recommend to friends.
Aside from the carefully curated collection of frames and sunglasses, Silver Lining boasts some of the best customer service I have experienced in the city. I have been on the hunt for the perfect pair of eyeglasses for almost a year, and happened to stumble into Silver Lining a few weeks ago for the first time. Not only did they assist me in my search, but they had a genuine interest in helping me locate the perfect pair of frames. I have been a couple times since and still haven't found the perfect pair (their collection is always in a state of flux), but I can guarantee you I will be back regularly until it happens. After discovering how invested they are in their business and their customers, I can't imagine buying glasses from anyone else.
Pros: Great service, great selection, inviting atmosphere, great location
I'll be the first to admit it, I'm a sunglasses fiend and a sunglasses elitist. I like to own unique pieces and know that what I'm buying is amazingly crafted and that the people are genuinely invested in getting me the best pair of sunglasses possible. I was referred to Silver Lining by a friend of mine who bought an amazing pair of vintage Ray-Bans from the couple that owns the place (my social circle is also a big supporter of LGBT owned businesses). The selection was good (by far not the best, that award goes to the amazing ArtSee). I went the first time and was helped by the darker haired gentleman, who was great, not too pushy, and respected my decision to sleep on it (with the warning that they could be "gone by then"). When I went back, I was helped by his partner, who was pushy and used irritatingly broad phrases like "one-of-a-kind" and "limited edition" (the former is always a lie, the latter is generic... What isn't "technically" a limited edition?). When I decided to wait a bit longer, he became stand-offish and unwelcoming. Suffice to say that I'll be checking to see who is working the floor before I come back again!
Pros: 1/2 of the owners, Nice layout
Cons: 1/2 of the owners, Not the "BEST" selection
Silver lining opticians has quickly become a new favorite store of mine. It is shop with a great vibe. I can't resist stopping by everytime I am in Soho and inevitably i always walk out with a new pair of eyeglasses, sunglasses or both. A friend of mine told me to go here when i was complaining that i couldn't find cool new glasses to fit my small face. I had been everywhere, or so i thought. The collection at Silver Lining is unlike anywhere else in the city, the owners really know eyewear and have great style. They are totally chill, and know exactly what i am looking for, always finding me the perfect pair. I have bought both from their vintage collection as well as some of the new lines. The first time i went in i played around on my own trying on mulitple pairs dismissing their help. Finally when i let them advise me and pick some stuff out they nailed it right on the first try. So now, i walk in and play with the shop dog Henri, who happily bounces at your feet (he is another great attraction to the place), and let Erik or Jordan do the rest.
With all of the options for eye glasses in New york, particularly in soho, it's difficult to find a shop that is worth coming back to. After being shafted by the larger companies like cohen's and lenscrafters for over-priced designer wear, Silver lining provides a solid selection of fashionable glasses at decent prices ($300 or less). Most of all, the guys here genuinely care about what they're doing. They spent an hour going over frames with me and making sure my girlfriend and I were satisfied. I'm not too sure where that negative review before this came from, but I feel it is largely unfounded: they really went above and beyond to ensure that I was happy with my purchase. Definitely coming back to this one.
Pros: fashionable selection that isn't made in a shop in china
I recently came across Silver Lining Opticians in my quest for my first pair of glasses. The neighborhood is filled with eyeglass stores, but these guys really differentiate themselves with their selection and their knowledge of the eyewear. They display frames from different periods, I think from the '60s forward along side some of the nicest new brands I've seen anywhere. Providing me with a selection of not just what was released by the big brands this season, but with the best designs from any period was a welcome change from the dolce gabbana and prada stuff at lens crafters. I appreciated their patience and ability to tell me honestly what looked good on me. Try these guys first!
Pros: Selection, service
Cons: Prescriptions take about two business days
Such an attitude..... i never saw that...... the store looks good, but it is the only thing, the guy had such an attitude, pretending to know everything, pushy and arrogant when i said i don't like this frame.... what a waste!!!!
i will definitely don't go there anymore, to be treated like that, no way!!!!!!
Also the price are crazy......
Cons: bad service, bad vibe.....
These guys have it figured out. They have the best selection of brands that are new to the market and unbelievable vintage sunglasses. If you want the perfect pair of glasses go to these guys. I bought a pair of vintage ray-ban drifters that I couldn't find anywhere else. I've been a couple of times, and the vintage stock is always changing. There's something fresh for everyone here.
Pros: Unused vintage like no where else in New York
Cons: Bring your own prescription
Just bought a pair of vintage specs. Amazed with all the different styles and colors they had in the store. You won't find this selection anywhere else. The guys let you try everything you want. These specs are definately for the fashion minded.
Pros: rare high quality vintage eyeglasses
Cons: no eye exams
The guys there were warm and seemed to care about my actual needs. They clearly weren't trying to just "make the sale" - as they were completely available for constructive criticism and personalized attention - they just get it.. super knowledgeable and really understood what makes a pair of glasses work on a person's face. A Soho shop sans vacant shop clerk, surely you jest.
I ended up with a pair of glorious Oliver Goldsmith (if you haven't heard of them....you should) frames that seem to have been made for my face. Best part is they aren't the lame Chanel nonsense that all of the ladies seem to love these days. The vibe of the shop was super comfy and I found myself lingering...great music playing, drinks offered and the cutest little dog bouncing at my feet. PLUS, they have the sickest collection of real vintage frames ranging from the insane to really timeless... check em!
I bought glasses from the guys at Silver Lining and am so happy with the experience. This was my first pair of prescription glasses so I was nervous, but Erik and Jordan totally worked with me. I came back several times before I made up my mind and they were so patient and extremely knowledgeable about glasses. I'm going back soon to pick out some vintage sunglasses -- they've got the best around!
