A friend and I stopped here for a quick snack after hearing rave reviews. We thought the cupcakes would be nice sized, perhaps like a bakery-style muffin, but were in fact just a standard size you could make on your own. For $2.50 each, it was pricey but we were already there so went ahead and each selected one. There wasn't anywhere to sit and enjoy aside from a folding table, so we got them to-go.
My friend liked her red velvet cupcake with cream cheese frosting, though she was concerned that they were not refrigerated. I had a chocolate mocha cupcake, which was heaped with so much icing that I couldn't taste both the cake and frosting at once. This was actually a bad thing, because the cake was very dry. I think they may freeze the cupcakes before icing them. I wound up using a fork to eat mine so that I could soften the cake with the icing.
The concerning part was that after running my credit card, the clerk said she was out of paper and couldn't print a receipt. I told her I'd wait while she changed the paper roll, but she said she didn't know how. I asked if her manager could help, but she said no one else was there. Hmm. I finally asked if she'd write me a receipt, but that completely confused her. She scribbled something mispelled on a post-it note.
$2.50 for a cupcake served on a plate in a cozy cafe with nice tables, where my friend and I could have enjoyed a chat, is worth the money. $2.50 for a stale item that tasted like the 1/2 price rack at my grocery store is not. This place is a rip-off, and poorly run at that.
