The best haircut, the nicest guy
Tommy has been cutting my hair for 15 years and I have never, every been disappointed. He even styled my hair for my wedding! He has a wonderful ability to make you feel comfortable and look beautiful, what more could you want? The setting is intimate and warm, no pounding music, no stupid receptionists with attitude, I love it. I wouldn't let anyone else near my hair, I love him like a member of the family.
Pros: comfortable, intimate

Great haircut, great color, unbelievably cute dog
I've been going to Tommy for several years now. He saved me after I had just gotten what was possibly the worst hair cut ever. After leaving that salon, I walked around my neighborhood to find someone - anyone - who could fix the damage - at least until I could get an appointment with a really good hair cutter. I walked into a few salons in my neighborhood (Greenwich Village) and happened upon the shop in which Tommy was employed at the time. He came over to me and I said "Can you fix this?!" to which he replied "Sit down." I never called another hairdresser after that. Tommy knows what will make you look your best. He very gently suggested - no pressure - that I cut my hair short, which it pretty much was, but he meant SHORT. Not crew cut short, and not butch (not that there's anything wrong with that), but short. I was afraid of what my boyfriend would say, but he loved it. Tommy is a master of the precision cut, which you don't see done too well anymore. I had people stop me on the street on several occasions to compliment me on the cut. Eventually, Tommy suggested - again no pressure - that I get highlights. They looked great. Another suggestion - all over color - blonde - platinum. I resisted. However, I eventually took his suggestion and it's been about 2 years since my first BLONDE experience. I love it. Once again, I've never received so many compliments. His prices are very reasonable. His home is beautiful, and easy to reach from the Village. Tommy is a great guy, his friend Charles is a doll, and Nicky the dog I'm in love with.
Pros: High end cut and color at very reasonable cost
Cons: None

Metrosexual point of view (even for those that still think going for a barber haircut is OK)
I found Tom's listing on Citysearch and thought I would give it a try. I was tired of going to barber's, but also was not into the hype of a salon experience. I am young guy in the corporate world, and I wanted a cut that looked polished, yet fresh. I have a busy schedule and on occasions Tom has gone out of his way to fit me into his work day without making me feel rushed. I can get to Tom's from Wall Street in 15 minutes, so it's not uncommon for me to come during my lunch break. I've received great cuts and have been going for a few months now.
Pros: No waiting in line, punctual, 15 minute train ride to Tom's
Cons: none that I can think of

I won't go back to a salon again - I now go to Hair by Tom, where I can count on a serene and special experience, great cuts and highlights without breaking the bank
I just started going to Tom recently at his beautiful home in Carroll Gardens. I didn't know what to expect, but after a recommendation from a friend, I needed to see in person if this was for me. It wasn't a salon per se, but a clean, well decorated apartment; like an unexpected hidden gem in Carroll Gardens. When you first walk into Tom's, he sits you down to understand what your daily lifestyle is like. Based on that, he guides you to choices that best complement your features and lifestyle. The entire process is enjoyable, calming and yet efficient. I now look forward to go and enjoy the personalized, private attention in a space that feels like your own mini escape from the city rush. I used to spend over twice the amount of money on my hair in the city for cuts and colors that never felt "worth" it. Tom has a strong understanding of the movement of hair and plans beyond your visit to how your hair will look as it grows in a few weeks later. If you want a professional haircut/color by a stylist that won't overcharge, yet make you feel like a queen or king, go see Tom. With the reasonable pricing, I decided to start buying my friends visits to Tom for special occasions like birthdays. They too feel like "rockstars" for a day.
Pros: Low Price, High attention to detail, quality setting, Private experience
Cons: Cash Only (not a big deal, just be prepared)

best haircut, relaxed atmosphere, friendly, accomdating
I've been going to Tommy for about 5 years and I can highly recommend him. In fact, my mom, who comes up from North Carolina, will only get her hair done by him now. He does cuts and color that make you look better immediately - plus they don't look like "haircuts" - you just plain look better! I'm dreading when everyone in cobble hill finds out he's around the corner - I never have to wait to see him now, but frankly, there should be a line around the corner to see him.
Pros: he knows what your hair is doing way better than you do, convienent
