Mojave has great food and an awesome outdoor space in the back. The bar is small but the cocktails are great...especially the prickly pear mojitos...powerful! Love the place!

I recently visited my best friend who lives in Astoria. After long hours of shopping on Steinway and walking around in Astoria Park we decided to stop at Mojave for a quick bite. Now, it was mid afternoon on a Wednesday but the place had a few people there. The service was prompt and our waiter was very attentive. We ordered a caesar salad and nachos to share and loved it. We also ordered two quesadillas and they were delicious. Overall, great place which I highly recommend!

I've been here for drinks/light dinner with a coworker several times and also once for brunch and most of the time, I have a pretty good time. The service in inconsistent - I've never had horrible service, but sometimes they can be a little slow. The food is pretty good - I especially like the shrimp crisps. It's definitely more upscale than most Mexican food that I've had and it's generally a lighter feel than most of the heavy, greasy food you usually find in Mexican restaurants. They use a lot of seafood, so it seems almost like Cuban or Puerto Rican cuisine.
The terrace outside is very nice during the spring/summer months and I've never had to wait for a table.
The brunch menu is different from lunch/dinner menu and I probably would not recommend Mojave for brunch--menu is rather limited and doesn't have much in the way of more "brunch-y" fare, but it is great for relaxed drinks with friends. It's also a larger restaurant, so I imagine they could handle a large group fairly easily.

The ambience of this restaurant is amazing. The staff was extraordinarily helpful and the food, though somewhat "American-ized," was delicious and appealing. It was a little expensive, however, as my party of 4 ended up with a $85 bill (tax and tip included)

We walked into this restaurant on sunday brunch not really expecting much but came out with the best dining experience we had ever had. Since we only had a party of three we decided to sit at the bar and were greeted by a very nice guy bartender. The bartender over heard us talking about tequilas and recommended the infused tequila on their drink menu. It was not that expensive and the taste of the triple-berry tequila was worth every penny. Not too long after, our order of the hamburger and fries as well as the salmon taco came. The burger was EXCELLENT and the fries were the best all of us had ever tasted. Although the portions of tacos could have been larger (my boyfriends eats like a pig) it was really filling. We all walked away with the best dining experience we had ever had and although there have been some bad reviews, look forward to going back. Mojave really did an excellent job.

Horrible, slow, incompetent service. The chips on the table were limp, the salsa beyond mild. The food was undercooked and under flavored. Way to pricey for the area. If you are looking for good Mexican...keep walking, don't waste your money or time here.

I feel like I want to like this place more than I actually do. I've been here 3x & had more or less the same experience every time. Food is okay, but nothing spectacular. I've been to the West Village location (Agave) a couple of times as well & would say it's about the same, but the menus are slightly different. So far my favorite thing here is the queso fundido & the fried goat cheese salad. The quesadillas are pretty bland :( The one area where they do have most places beat is the frozen margarita selection...probably the best I've ever had. Oh, & the service is pretty good too.

We went on a Thursday evening because they advertise "complimentary margarita with meal". However, the prices are a bit steep and the food not so great (which makes the free margarita not worth it). We just opted for appetizers and beer.

There was live music and the place was packed. It is an ok place

I've been walking by this place for about a 3 months since i've moved to this neighborhood and i thought it looked a little to trendy for me so i finally gave it a shot this weekend. The food was terrific the service was great . The staff was so attentive The tequila section even better. the only thing i didnt like was the crabmeat rolls they were a little on the lite side. The fajitas were more than i can eat i ended up taking it home and having it for lunch and went back there for dinner. One of the best burgers i've evr had and the spice they put on the fries I will definately be back for more

Me and four of my girl friends came here on a Friday night and had a great time!! We started out with the Buffalo Oysters (which you HAVE to try) and Guacamole ( a little smaller portion than we had hoped, but very tasty). The drinks were on time and plentiful. The entrees came a little quicker than I would have expected, but it wasn't a big deal. Our server was incredibly attentive and she described, in detail, the entrees, cocktail drinks, and made suggestions that we ended up going for. First off, the entrees were delicious and HUGE portions for the price. A pitcher of red sangria was followed up by a round of Margaritas. We were pleasantly surprised when the two bar tenders (in little orange polos!) brang the margaritas out and chatted to us for a bit. They asked if we enjoyed everything and if we would like to try some Tequila shots, or something called THE PUNISHER. A little morbid, I know, but we watched as my one (very brave) friend took this habanero infused shot. It was hilarious to watch my friend's eyes water up as she tried to keep a smile! Unfortunately, the rest of us were not as brave as she, but it made for quite an adventure. We will definitely be returning, maybe next time I'll be the one stepping up to the Punisher challenge! Bottom line: Professional and extremely friendly staff, delicious entrees, and a truly fun atmosphere.

Went there twice so far and intend on going back. Great food and staff. First I'll talk about the food. You must try the corn on the cob!! The calamari was also so delicious! Not greasy at all! Perfectly cooked. We had the steak quesedilla, burger and fries, guacamole, and tuna salad. All were excellent choices. Now about the staff. Something very unfortunate occurred when we were there on our 2nd visit. Someone who was walking out of the restaurant stole my friend's purse. I can't even put into words the loss and feeling at that moment or realization!! It was our innocence's fault as my friend hung her purse on the back of her chair. Well, the staff was devasted! They immediately called the police (who showed up in 5 minutes, which anyone who has ever needed the police in Astoria, know it can take a long time for them to show up). The manager and our waiter were so upset and genuinely concerned. In the end they took off a nice percentage off the check and sent us five complimentary, DELICIOUS desserts. As we were leaving the manager asked us to please call him and let us know that everything turned out ok and that our friend was OK. As a person who is ALL about customer service this restaurant did NOT let me down! Thank you for your genuine care and concern for our friend and not just the image of the restaurant. I highly recommend this restaurant to all and leave a nice tip... they deserve it!

As a resident of Astoria, it is always awesome to find a great place with excellent food. Mojave is that and more!! Our server was so friendly and the drinks were diverse and well made. But the highlight for me was the entree I chose. I ate the Salmon which is the best Salmon I have ever had. It is crusted with ground pumpkin seeds, pan seared with a chipotle cream sauce drizzled on top. It is served on a bed of spinach sauteed in garlic and smoked tomatoes. YUM! OMG. Delicious. It is pricey but worth it. I will go back for the food, service and fun atmosphere.

While visiting a friend in Astoria we went to eat at MOJAVE, It was so good we ate there twice! Dinner the first night and lunch the following day. Mojave definition of southwest cooking is like no other. While not a huge fan of the southwest faire their recipes brought a higher respect of that region of cooking. I only wish they would open a restaurant in the Boston area. I recommend you to order a few plates so to sample different dishes! Excellent, perfect, and close to heaven with just the right amount of heat: 5 stars!

A friend of mine visiting from Boston wanted to try this joint as it was close to my apartment, yet had a Manhattan feel to it. The ambiance was fantastic. I loved the interior decor. The wooden ceiling facade was a visual delight. We ordered frozen strawberry margaritas, the shrimp quesadilla, and crab quesadilla. The margaritas were pretty good. They were truly frozen and thick, which allowed you to sip and enjoy them at your leisure without them melting. The quesadillas were so-so...and definitely not worth $13. I wasn't a fan of the mediocre presentation (thrown on a plate with a haphazard dollup of sour cream, salsa, and guac in the center.) Both were overly salted and way too fishy tasting. The shrimp did not have a good texture...they tasted frozen, store bought, and over cooked. The crab was a little better, but the overpowering aroma of fishiness just about ruined it for me. I'd go back for the margaritas. I'd never order another quesadilla from here, though.

So two friends and I hopped in right before the big rush on Cinco de Mayo. This southwestern hot spot just did that. Flavor pairings were very creative... shrimp tacos with corn and asparagus. Not only did they offer free margaritas but also free tequila shots for the occasion. They were quite packed given the night however they still delivered. Prices were a little high and portions a little small. Their "hand hacked" guacamole was amazing but they could have offered a slightly larger portion. We all ordered tacos as they were in the 15-17 dollar range, however my friend received two while everyone else received three tacos we confronted the waitress. Not only did she explain the methodology to their portions but offered us more food from the menu. We ended up sharing and having enough food but the wait staff was quite accommodating for such a busy night. The live band was great and the huge open windows is an astoria essential.

It's funny how i really never noticed this place coming off the subway, but monday night it couldnt be missed. They had a very festive theme with ballons stretched accross the sidewalk, and a live band next to window. my frined and i decided to give it a try, also because they had a free margarita with your meal. we waited around 20 minutes next to the bar, which was overcrowded by people partying. we had our free blueberry margaritas and then got seated. The food was really good, and the service was really nice considering they were jammed with a line of people outside the door. Nice green theme with t-shirts and menus and the rest. they explained us that they raised the prices a little bit because of the live band, but considering the free margarita, and the free shot of their organic tequila it was really cheap, we spent around 30 each with the tip. will definately be back and will bring my friend. The manager also told us that maybe they are going to have a cinco de mayo every thursday night, with a live band. If that's the case i know where i will be heading right after the office.... GOOD JOB mojave...

The subway didn't bother me at all, well i am a metropolist so i am used to live in big cities. We really enjoyed our uevos rancheros, A MUST and also we had 2 mojitos "also made to order"
Service in every time i have been there, more than 10 is always been good.
Will be back

I've lived in Astoria for about two years now, and already Mojave is one of my top three favorite restaurants in the area (along with Sakura and Fatty's, both on Ditmars). So far, I've been here three times. The first was on Valentine's Day this year with my wife. The place was PACKED, but we were miraculously seated right away at a great spot in the center of the front half of the place. Anyway, we tried the buffalo fried oysters, the short ribs (wicked tender), and the sea scallops, along with a pitcher of sangria (unfortunately, the fruit isn't soaked in grappa), and a jalapeno mojito (not for the weak of tastebuds). Everything was delicious. The service was a tad bit slow, of which I was warned via other reviews. The second and third times we went there, we had quesadillas, which are on average nearly ten bucks cheaper than the entrees, yet just as filling. I HIGHLY recommend the blue crab quesadilla. Also, I'm happy to say, the last two times we've been there, the service has sped up significantly. Still, if you're not one for waiting too long, I recommend placing your appetizer/dinner orders along with your drink orders, which should be made upon the first visit the server attends to the table. Otherwise, you may be left feeling a little neglected. Honestly, though, it's gotten a lot better there, service-wise. The owner actually reads online reviews and takes suggestions (i.e. additions to the beer selection).

Pros: Great food, great drinks, great atmosphere, great location, great prices

Cons: Service improving, music is a little too loud and of the "club" variety

I live in astoria since 2003 and mojave is one of my 3 usual restaurants that i eat at least every week. My wife and I are both vegetarian and GREEN, and we found out that also the owner of mojave are trying hard to save the earth. Not only the food is good and the service got really much better from the beginning, but we feel that a restaurant that replies to emails, buys organic products and tryes hard to recycle and uses natural producs really deserves to be a success. And i feel this is the case of MOJAVE, nearly after only 3 months they are part of the astoria community. Good job and welcome to the ASTORIA... keep up the good work, me and my wife are big fan and supporters...

We ordered the swordfish and other appetizers and they arrived less than five minutes after placing our order. We barely were able to enjoy our drinks and the atmosphere, if we wanted fast food we would have gone next door to McDonalds. It was warm outside and they opened the door and windows which was OK, but because this restaurant is so close the subway-- every time the train pulled up we felt distracted by the noise. It was like we were dining on the subway platform. There was also issues with the bill. The waitress added the tip (by mistake) to our bill. The atmosphere is fine, but this restaurant clearly has a lot of work to do. We will not be going back.

I have been in mojave already 5-6 times and never had a complaint. food is good and not too expensive, drinks are good (i like the sangria a lot) i will be spending my summer drinking it for sure. and the service is very friendly, not cold like in some other places. Bartenders are really frindly and they chat with me everytime i sit at the bar, the waiters are nice and the manager is really funny... he makes me laugh every time i am there... (maybe is the sangria)
I would reccomand this place to people that want to try southwerstern cuisine.

I was eating in Mojave sunday night with my friend. i am not really into mexican food but my best friend wanted me to try it because he explained to me that is not mexican but southwestern, ok?!?! like i know the difference?? being my first experience with tex-mex food i was very confused by some of the menu items.. I grilled the waiter with 1000 questions about the menu, and he explained all of them. I am glad my friend took me here. I had the serrano ham quesadilla, and it was sooo delicious... the waiter explained to me that serrano ham it means that it's a mountain pig ham.. from spain.. and also explained me that succotash it's a native american indian dish.. I am russian so for me was really interesting learning this things..
Service was really friendly and down to earth, it made me feel really confortable.. I liked the sangria very much.. definately will be back....

This is a very nice looking restaurant in Astoria which is tastefully decorated.

I visited on a Sunday afternoon around 3 pm and thought the place was quiet and appealing. The atmosphere is nice and the service decent by New York standards. The menu is very short, without many options. The entree was small for thirteen dollars and my beer was served warm. I was told that the beer delivery had just gotten there and was offered ice. No frosted mug, no colder beer, and no discount (still cost me five fifty) a lot for a warm beer.

I didn't find the food bad, just not outstanding. Not really a good value for the price.

Pleasant Southwest atmosphere. Conveniently located. Food was great ? we had the Black Angus Fajitas and the Mojo Swordfish. The margaritas were light on the tequila which was quickly remedied when brought to the attention of the waiter. (thank you, Susan) especially since the restaurant was near full capacity. We will definitely go back and will tell our friends!
