These guys are outrageously expensive! They charge 100$ diagnostic fee even if you know what is wrong and you tell them. Then they charge you 150$ for a drivability test... all before doing any work on your car. So FYI, you are out $250 just for your car landing on their lot.
Then once they do work they charge far excessive labor. I dont mind paying for labor, but 4hrs to change a fuel filter. Heck, 4hours!! how many cars can they see per day if they work that slow.
Also, most of not all of the great raving reviews must be fake! They really just read like advertisements. When you read them, just think about if a real customer would actually talk like that.
I had a good experience with Dave's. They seemed honest and actually seemed to care about YOU. FREE shuttle service! How can you beat that? J.R. and Rachel were very pleasant to talk to on the phone. I definitely recommend Dave's!

I have a 1997 Toyota 4Runner Limited with 243,289 Miles on it...yah that's right baby...243K JDM miles. I've done most of the work on the 4Runner but this time I don't have the proper equipment to work on it. Took my SUV for the 1st time to this shop after reading all the reviews and statement from everyone else so I figured I couldn't go wrong. As I suspected to what was wrong with my 4Runner, Andrew the Manager and his teamed diagnosed the same thing. They fixed what I needed to get fixed and what I wanted to get fixed. Didn't get that pressure in getting other things done unlike some other shops (Stealership) :) Jimmy the driver...thank's for shuttling me back and forth to my crib man.
Talk about customer service! Dave's service staff were extremely friendly & helpful. I was quoted a better price than my normal dealership and I am extremely satisfied wit the quality of work received on my vehicle. Dave's Ultimate really is a one-stop shop for all your automotive needs!

So you know that joke where the blonde goes into the Auto shop and says that she needs the 710 part and the mechanics look at her like she's crazy till they have her point to the part and its actually the OIL cap. Yeah....well that's me! =)
I know absolutely nothing about cars.
My eyes start to glaze over at the invoices and conversations. At Dave's Automotive they take care of you and explain all the car jargon. They are straight to the point and honest about exactly what you need to make sure your car is up to par. They don't push you if you just want an oil change and that's it. Like other places that I've been to do.
Michelle, JR, and Andrew are the best. They are very nice and welcoming. Even to the car dummies like myself.
I definitely recommend them to all if you want fast work, good customer service, and good prices.
As a mother of two, I just want to thank Dave's for taking such great care of my family. They were able to fix my car when other places couldn't figure out the problem - they also pointed out other things that I was unaware of - the customer service was GREAT and I actually feel better about my car getting me and my children where we need to be safe and sound
This review started out as a one-star complaint regarding an experience I had at Dave's Ultimate Automotive, and due to EXCELLENT CUSTOMER SERVICE and follow up has now changed to a wholehearted five-star compliment. I felt preventative maintenance could have been performed by the mechanic during one of my visits to avoid a costly brake repair that had to be undertaken shortly thereafter. Well let me tell you, without my even making a formal complaint, Dave the owner (who must have read my online negative review) sent me a very thoughtful and lengthy letter of apology that included a full refund for the work that was performed on the second avoidable visit. Now of course, there is no way to prove that the repairs could have been avoided, but Dave had the same feeling about the situation that I did, and took care of me VERY WELL as a result. I cannot emphasize enough just how genuine Dave's commitment to customer service and quality repairs are....The words in his letter could not have been written otherwise. He truly stands up for the reputation of the business which bears his name. Like I said, this letter from Dave was unsolicited, unexpected and I was astounded when I received it -- I have never had such an experience quite frankly in my 18 years of car ownership. I thought this kind of pride in one's work and reputation died in the 1950's! Not only will I be back to Dave's Ultimate Automotive, I will be back with the confidence that I am patronizing good people, and getting quality parts and repair work performed. Dave, thank you thank you and thank you again. You will be seeing me again... soon.

I took my car in for regular maintenance ( oil change ) & got more than I paid for! I was educated on additional services that can keep my car running more efficiently as well as save me $$ on gas mileage. The service I received was very friendly and professional. I received honest advice & service. Thank you Dave's Ultimate!!

I brought my car in for a grindy noise that only happens when i use the brakes (but not always). I talk to Andrew and he checked my car out and found the brake pins were sticking on the left sfront side of my car. So he said all that was needed was to lube the pins and it would fix the problem. He even should me what has happening and why. They didn't try to screw me with a bunch of crap they were honest about it. From now on only daves ultimate will be working on my car.

I brought my car in to Dave??s a while ago because of a persistent clunking sound when turning. The technician diagnosed the problem as worn tie rods, which was a reasonable diagnosis. They replaced the tie rods and I picked up my car. After driving if for a while I realized the clunking sound was still present. I eventually brought my car back to Dave??s and they were very accommodating. I did a test drive with the technician and reproduced the problem for him. He was then able to identify the problem and fix it, and I was not charged for the second repair. They even threw in a free oil change. The staff was extraordinarily accommodating and very focused on customer service.
There are plenty of shady auto-repair places where they charge you for services you don??t need but Dave??s is definitely not one of them. They go out of their way to make sure you are completely satisfied with your experience and they are honest.

They play that part war with you. From my visit they were very helpful over the phone and in person. They even gave me a rental car while mine was in the shop. But then when it comes to the actual work they continuously charge you for parts that are irrelevant to the problem. I heard good things about the place but I was charged out the @$$ three times and the problem was never actually fixed. You decide... maybe you won't get screwed like I did.

My car is my baby and I love taking it to a place where the people all know what's going on and what they're all talking about. Dave's is such a place. Everyone here is super freaking nice and they all are genuinely interested in you and your automobile. They don't give you a run around, they don't give you long winded ""recommendations"" they just wrench on your car, tell you what's wrong (should there be something wrong) and tell you how they'll fix it. Truly hassle free mechanic.
Best part is they service Subarus and more. I will take my Subie no where else!
Wow! This place is awesome. I brought my car in for noise's in the rear end, was told by another shop (ok Sears) that I needed shocks and rear differential service. The noise was only above 50 mph an hour so wasn't sure if it was true or not. Went to Dave's the Service Manager took it for a ride, came back in, told a technician to put in on a lift. Found out my rear tires where scalloped. All I needed was rear tires, shocks where ok, and they did the differential service for me. I am so glad to have Dave's. I tell everyone I know and all my co-workers to go to Dave's. They even have taxi coupons for someone that gives you a ride to drop off the car or for you to pick it up. How cool is that!
As mechanics these guys might be OK, but really watch out for their pricing. For me they charged 100$ (2hrs) for an initial diagnosis. That would be OK if I had not told them exactly what was wrong with the car to begin with when I dropped it off. So they spent 2 hrs finding out what I told them for free. On top of that, they charge me with a ""Level 1 drivability test and inspection"" which is 3hrs or 150$. So I am out 250$ before any real work is done. They find two problems (one of which was dubious). Both of those apparently took 4hrs each, or 400$ in labor to fix. One of those was to change a fuel filter which should not take a good mechanic 4 hours. I leave one star since there is actually a chance that my car is actually fixed, which would be nice. Watch out!
PS, I strongly suspect many/most of these 5star reviews are fake. Anyone who actually went there would mention the price, even if they are ""in love with Dave's"" or whatever.
We have always had a great experience at Dave's and enjoy their loyalty program.
About two weeks ago, i went to Dave's to get my state inspection and oil changed. When i asked how long it would take to do everything, my estimate was an hour. i got a phone call in about half that time, with it finished. Very reasonably priced. Everyone at Dave's was friendly, and supportive and explanitory of what needed to be done. I have no idea how cars work, nor when to get the oil changed. I'm so glad i took my car to Dave's. i will DEFINATELY be back! Thanks Dave's!
Went there to get my check engine light off, I was told that it was my gas cap. They told me that i needed a diagnostic of $99 I came out with and estimated $1500 in repairs. Guess what?? I went somewhere else, they change my gas cap, and I passed the State Inspection.
They even said that I needed to change my O2 sensor for $400, but my State Inspection said that my O2 Sensor was fine. They just tried to rip me off.
Don't go there!!
There are a lot of things I love about this place! First off, the people who work there, I have yet to meet someone nasty or not smiling. I believe her name is Michelle, was just amazing. I told her I would come back by about 1, but ended up my friends wanted to take me out for a while longer. She gave me a call to make sure I didn't need a ride back to the shop to get my car. \r
Also, I love how most of their stuff is online, makes it easy to figure out how to schedule and fit things in. The text message reminders are great. This is a really great use of media and technology for their business. \r
:D Go local.
I have been using Dave's for years and I just want to rave about their amazing service. Todd especially, is wonderful. My car recently hit 90K miles and has been vibrating when braking on a big hill, plus I wanted to see how it was doing, what I might need to get done in the coming months, etc. Normally walking into a shop and saying ""tell me what I need done"" is carte blanche to take royal advantage of you. Not at Dave's. They did a very thorough inspection, found I needed my brake fluid flushed (they show you the test strip) but that my pads and rotors were great, that I should pay attention to the fluttering, and they'd check it out at my next oil change. Additionally, my power steering fluid needed flushed. Otherwise, they declared the car in great shape. In half the time they quoted me, my car was done and ready to roll. And, since I refer people to them all the time, I had referral credit on my account. My ""Big 90,000 Mile Check-Up"" final cost? -$22 Yup, I still have a credit on my account and spent nothing out of pocket. I have a good hairdresser and a good mechanic. Life doesn't get much better than that.
I live in Dallas and was on vacation in Austin last August. The transmission went out on my Honda and Dave's installed a rebuilt one. There is a 12 month/12,000 mile nationwide warranty and a 24 month/24,000 mile local warranty. Last week, the transmission started acting up on me. I was in the Dallas area. For whatever reason the nationwide Napa warranty wasn't going to cover my problem. The manager at Dave's stepped up to the plate and assured me that they would back their work, even if the Napa warranty wouldn't. They paid to have my vehicle towed to an independent transmission shop in Dallas and paid them to do the work. The people that I dealt with were extremely friendly, understanding and helpful. It is very refreshing to know that there is a place that actually works hard to make things right and backs up their work with more than words. That place is Dave's Automotive.
I got my car fixed at Dave's. They gave me an estimate and it was high. But I figured since they had a A+ Rating with the BBB I figured I tried them.
The place is in good shape and customer service is good. They called me and told me what as going on. But the little added fees started adding up and can start to break the bank if your on a budget.
Long time user of city search, but I have never posted a review until now. I love Dave's I have been bringing all my cars to their Howard lane location for about 3 years now. Brad and Dwayne's customer service is great and the work I have had done on my car has been stellar. I am not sure how much money I have saved getting things done right the first time, but im sure its a butt load. These guys set the bar for REAL CAR CARE in a world of mis-trust and shady dealings. 5 stars RUN dont walk.
I've been to many auto shops locally in the Austin Round Rock area, and none of them have had exceptional service and great workmanship. Before going to Dave's, I was always shopping around for cheap auto shops, but everytime I did, I would get burned. You walk in to most auto shops locally, first thing you see is a grease monkey running the place who always wants to take your money. At Dave's you walk into a warm-freindly environment and they always know your name. They go over every detail of services provided and give you many options to help with your budget. They helped me with with extended warranty and had it repaired within a two days. For sure every vehicle that I need serviced, even if its just an oil change, is going to Dave's, THANK YOU for getting me back on the road again!
I really liked the personal service i received from dave's. they worked with insurance and did great work.
I have my daughter in Austin as a student at UT,I have read so many posistive reviews about how good and honest you folks are and told my daughter to go there. She calls me with a qoute of over 1000.00 for brakes on her 97 civic,i called around and found instantly 5 shops in Austin that could do exact same job for half, are you folks in kahoots with using only expensive Napa parts. I have told my daughter to stay away from a shop that obviously is posting thier own hi five great reviews,no one posts 10 good reviews the same day unles they are the owners of an establishment-we are not that stupid.
Being new to the Austin area I'm once burned twice shy about new mechanics working on my SUV. I read all the comments on Daves and decided to give it a try. Its THE BEST experience I've every had with a repair shop. They told me exactly what was/wasnt wrong, did NOT try to sell me things/services I didnt need, were very straight forward with pricing and timelines. Believe me when I say I've dealt with plenty of servers in the Gulf coast area and never met this kind of service before, I say thank you to everyone at Daves on Congress, its well worth going to. I will return.
Pros: Best in Austin
Very pleased with service at Dave's ultimate automotive. My car had been running with a pulsing, shaking feel for some time and Ive had other shops recommend fixing the transmission or starter. J.R. from DUA informed that I had a worn out hose that was causing to much air to be pulled in relative to fuel causing this now drastic pulsation. Really appreciated the detailed information, and now my car runs better than it has in a long time. I will definitely return to Daves for any future car problems.
Pros: shuttle, accurate diagnosis, car checklist
I have been to Dave's for a few different reasons over the past year or so. I recommend it to anyone who wants service on their vehicle from real people who will talk to you straight and get you back in your car asap. The free pick-up service is extremely helpful! You can get just about anything you need for your car done at Dave's Automotive. I highly recommend the place!
Pros: friendly people, wide array of services, good location
was in for a state inspection - ended up getting a free oil change too! \r
they are all about saving you money and its awesome!!\r
everyone is really nice and want to help you - and every friend you refer you get a free oil change in exchange!
Everyone is really friendly, I could use the internet while I waited or I could have taken a shuttle home. They simply explained to me what they found in my car. My friend recommended this place to me and I recommend Dave's Auto to everyone else!!!!
Pros: Convenience, great discounts, friendly service
Cons: I didn't run into any
I was referred to Dave's by a friend when my Mustang broke down. JR called a wrecker service for me and contacted me as soon as they received my car. I had a quote a few hours later and by the end of the following business day my car was ready to go at an excellent price! Unfortunately, I had a DIFFERENT problem the very next morning, leaving me stranded on the highway during morning rush hour. Michelle was already in the office, called a tow truck AND had Andrew (store mgr) pick me up and take me to work. Once the car was done - SAME DAY - JR brought my car to ME at work on the other end of town since I had no way to get to the shop and also to put my mind at ease that there would be no further problems. On the way JR was concerned with possible over heating and took it to the North Austin location to check it out. After he filled my coolant, he picked me up. Michelle and JR even stayed LATE to inspect my car since it was out of date. When it came time to pay, the charge was not only cheap, but cheaper than what they had originally quoted me. They gave me a card for roadside service, should I ever need a tow truck, and a few other unexpected perks! I must say, through all of my concerns, they were very friendly, professional and informative!! I would DEFINITELY recommend these guys and they now have my car service for life - or as long as I am in the Austin area!\r
A BIG THANKS to JR, Michelle and Andrew for everything!!! Y'all are AWESOME!!!!
Pros: Affordable, Friendly, Informative, Shuttle Service...
I brought my sister's car in for repairs on a Friday, not knowing how popular this place was. Still, they were able to fit me in without an appointment and had an oil change, inspection, brake fluid flush and transmission fluid flush done in a few hours. They also shuttled me back to my home, since they weren't sure when they would be able to do the work and didn't want me to have to wait at the shop. I told my sister about the excellent service. She plans to go to them for car care from now on-- I certainly will be bringing my own car here in the future. Highly recommended.
Pros: Example: best croissants in town
Cons: What are the drawbacks?
Quick and friendly service! I have recommended Dave's Ultimate Automotive's services to my friends and family!
Last Week I took my car (which was recently purchased) in to Dave Automotive, I knew my car needed a few things, OIl Change, Tune up etc... They checked over my car and printed out a list of things that it needs and may need in the future, The broke everything down, which was recommended asap and what could wait so I did not have to be out of pocket 1,200 immediately , Which I was really surprised since I have always took my car into Lambs Goodyear and they print out a list and make me feel as if that all needed to be done right away or it was going to break down. I took my car in the morning and just expected to get an oil change real quick and go back for the rest on a later date cause I needed my car, A nice gentleman there I think his name was Jr Let me know that they offer a free shuttle service to my job and that he would pick me up so they can get to my car that day, Which was EXTREMELY NICE, Since Firestone or Goodyear never offered me that....\r
Overall I had a really nice experience expecially since I am a women and always feel like mechanics are gipping me, I did not feel that there!!""
Pros: Shuttle Service,Customer Service,Warranty Offered, Good Mech
Cons: I cant think of any
I have used Daves Ultimate Automotive (SOCO) for both of our vehicles over the past year and I will follow this company to the ends of earth to make sure I get the Best service in town. The service you receive at Dave's is outstanding and you feel like apart of the family from the minute you walk in. We have been missing this type of service over the years, but Dave's has brought it back. I will recomend Dave's to all and anyone who ask me if I know of a trusted place to get a car worked on. They have never let me down and followed through with all of my request and needs. They go out of their way to help in anyway they can. 5 stars plus 5 more stars to the Best Auto Shop in Town.
I RECENTLY TOOK MY VETTE TO DAVES FOR SOME REPAIR WORK AND I WAS VERY SATISFIED. IT WAS MY FIRST TIME TO VISIT DAVES AND I WILL DEFINETLY LET THEM WORK ON ALL MY CARS. THE REPAIR WORK WAS DONE IN A TIMELY FASHION AND THEY EVEN WORKED WITH MY EXTENDED WARRANTY (WHICH WORKED OUT BETTER THAN I EXPECTED!) I WOULD RECOMMEND DAVES TO ANYONE THAT IS LOOKING FOR A HIGH QUALITY PROFESSIONAL REPAIR JOB. YOU GUYS ROCK!!!
Came by for a radiator change and it was done quickly and for a reasonable price. Further, as a courtesy to me, they fixed my tire which had a nail in it free of charge. Very honest and thorough mechanics.
This has been my second experience at Dave's. I come back because I know the quality and level of service that I get cannot be surpassed. Everyone dreads going to a mechanic, but I actually don't mind it. You get a shuttle to work and a ride back. Everyone I've dealt with deserves a gold star! Mainly Michelle, J.R. and Jimmy. My Volvo and my wallet love these guys.
I had a great experience from the moment I called Dave?s automotive. They were very knowledgeable and gave me a brief idea of what they thought the problem might be. They recommended coming to the shop for an analysis and a diagnosis of the problem. The staff was courteous and friendly and got to work on the problem right away. The restrooms and waiting area were very neat and clean. I will definitely come back again.
Pros: Great Service
So my husband and I were on our way to Dallas last night when my car did no start. We called this place first thing in the morning and they were happy to see us! They gave us a number to a cheap tow truck place. Got here in good time and they saw us extremely promptly. They were very generous and they show you everything they want to work on and what needs to be done. They do not just tell you word of mouth without showing you. They are great and very nice people! Great environment!
JR and Andrew, with Dave's Ultimate Automotive, were extremely helpful and answered all my questions in a clear and concise manner. I was impressed with their customer service and will definitely bring my car back for future care.
Pros: Prompt courteous help
So cars and I have a love- hate relationship. I love to get from point a to point b but cars hate me for doing so, therefore, I have spent alot of hours at car repair shops cursing silently because it's just not in the stars to have a car that works. Anyways, I LOVE LOVE LOVE the experience I had at Dave's Ultimate Automotive. It was a kinda major repair and everyone was so great. They have a shuttle service so they will give you a ride and pick you up and the time i spent at the shop was so welcoming and comfortable. They have a computer with internet access and a tv. they were funny, honest, super fast, inexpensive, and friendly. I kinda didn't want to leave. Anywhoo, go there, you'll love it. The end.
After looking at what a burgler did to my car, I had no idea who in town could repair the damage. I called Dave's Ultimate Automotive on S. Congress and immediately was welcomed with kindness and respect as a customer. I explained them my problem and they told me that it would take some extra work but they could do. They gave me and estimate after looking at it and it came down exactly to it when I left with my car stereo and A/C repaired. They appreciated the business and not shy of showing it. I've had a great experience at this location and sure you will too.
First, let me start by saying I'm that girl who brings their car to the shop at 4:00pm on Friday afternoon. After being turned away by a couple of places that said they couldn't deal with the car until Monday, I was desperate for someone to at least look at the vehicle. \r
After explaning the symptoms (metal scraping metal by front left tire), the mechanic listening (Andrew) made a similar prognosis to previous shops. He then TOOK THE TIME to ask a couple more questions and realized that the problem might not be so complicated. He said they would check it out and to give him a couple of minutes. Finally, some willing to help! After a short while, he came back and said that it was potentially a major brake job and i would need to leave the car there or bring it back on Monday to get fixed. Damn, well at least I had a prognosis now. \r
I asked for a minute to decide if I should get a rental car (which they explained that they could arrange at a discounted price) or drive my car all weekend and risk making it worse.I told the shop that I would leave the car and get a rental, when Andrew comes back in and says they've made some adjustments and they're giving the car a test drive to make sure they resolved the issue! 30-45 minutes after arriving at the shop and my car is fixed!!!\r
It doesn't stop there... I told them I would be back on Monday (there's a couple of belts that I know need replacing) and they told me where to find coupons online so I could save some cash when I got back.\r
This shop is Quality. They care about the people that come in, they care about fixing cars, and as a result they are a success.
When I lived here in 2003 I came to Dave's and received trustworthy help with my car. I'm back in 2008 and they have been great, once again. Honest. Trustworthy. Reasonable. Highly reccommend them.
I love these guys! I came over with my friend's car, they took a look while I spent my time in comfortable, airconditioned lobby with free internet and movies. It was sweet. Needless to say they fixed it in less than an hour.
Pros: quick, smart, honest and competant
If you need to find a good mechanic in Austin, go to Dave's Ultimate Automotive.\r
First of all, they treated me like I was the most important thing in the world to them. They listened when I told them what I wanted done, and why. They then offered suggestions on a few other things I could do, and I could tell that these people knew their stuff. I handed my keys over without any fear to these nice people and I went about my day.\r
Great customer service-\r
These guys fixed an issue that I'm pretty sure was created at another shop. I couldn't be more happy with the service they provided, their concern with getting the job done right, and their work to get me the best price possible on my repair. I'd recommend these guys to anyone.
