Worth the hype
Every yr. my young niece visits we have to go here for the frozen hot chocolate. Once we had dinner & the food was fine but nothing special. The prices are high & the wait can be up to 2 hrs. Sometimes the host taking your name can have an attitude, & @ one point they had a pest problem in the kitchen so we have not gone since.

Great desserts!
I was a fan of Serendipity before the movie came out, so understand that people may go here due to the hype and be disappointed. The menu is not elaborate, but more like that of a dinner. The food is good. The place is really known for it's deserts though. unfortunately, since the movie, every tourist wants to try the place and the wait is long. Worth the wait if you value chocolate to any degree!

my friends and i gave into all the hype (with the movie serendipity and the famous frozen hot chocolate) the food was mediocre and the frozen hot chocolate was good...but so is a chocolate milkshake for half the price.

Best Hot Chocolate in NYC
This is a small restaurant in NYC that is a must to see. The ice cream is the best in the area and the portions huge. The atmosphere is fun and very New York. This restaurant was featured in a movie of the same name. The iced hot chocolate is famous and you can purchase mixes to take home with you and try yourself. If you have time, stop by and treat yourself.

amazing frozen hot chocolate!
Being a New Yorker, I decided to go to Serendipity with a few gfs due to its famous hype. The place is very small and it has a very entrancing and dreamy atmosphere when you walk into the restaurant. Starving we all ordered entrees. I decided to order the famous foot long hotdogs which was decent, not great. Some friends ordered pasta dishes and steak platters which were alright as well. Then there came the dessert-- and the frozen hot chocolate, which was TO DIE FOR. It was a hefty 8.50 but you could share one with up to three people. I definitely suggest everyone to go to serendipity at least once just to try the frozen hot chocolate. It was on the pretty pricey end.... so ditch the food and go for the dessert!

Perfect Company Event
I came here for a company event, and I have to say I enjoyed my time here immensely. This place is chic, trendy, and elegant. The staff is extremely friendly and attentive. There hasn't been one thing I tried here that I didn't like. All the appetizers were good, and I was particularly impressed with the browni - fantastic! Highly recommend this place for company/professional gatherings.
Pros: service,food,desert
Cons: none

Complete waste of time, Overrated, not kid friendly
I was taking out visitors with kids, so I picked this place because it was listed under the best family-friendly restaurants. Well unless your kids don't mind waiting forever to eat, this is not a place for kids.
First of all, we had to wait an hour to get a table; they did not accept a reservation over the phone, eventhough they say that they accept reservations for lunch and dinner. There was no place to wait in the restaurant, so we had to wait outside in the street.
We then got a table upstairs: a big ugly room with bright lights, no decor, no atmosphere whatsoever, and... very very loud, lots of echoes...
It then took 30 minutes until we could order our food, and nobody warned us about the fact that it would take another 45 minutes to prepare the Curried casserole! So, more, and more wait. The kids were getting really tired by that time...
When the food came, my curried shrimp almondine casserole was pretty horrible: the shrimp were so dryed and overcooked, they were as hard as a rock! $18 for the dish: completely clueless.
The kids then had dessert, which I beleive they enjoyed. Of course it took another 30 minutes to order and get the desserts, but at that point, I guess I was even surprised it did not take anymore time.
This place is a complete waste of time and money. Stay away!
Also, if their service was more efficient, if the meal was not 3 hour-long, people would probably not have to wait forever outside for a table. I guess they didn't figure this out, or they don't care...
Now, what's up with people in this restaurant dipping french fries in frozen chocolate? Can someone explain that to me?
Pros: None
Cons: Wait, service, food, noise

Terrific Lunch at Serendipity 3
My friends and I went on recommendations from others who live in Manhattan or have visited from out of town. We didn't know to make reservations but went right at noon for lunch and only had to wait about 20 minutes. We didn't know what to expect since we had only been told about the Frozen Hot Chocolate. What a pleasant surprise it was. We all ordered different items and shared - Catcher in the Rye and Haight-Ashbury sandwiches were wonderful. The fresh fruit plate was enought for 3 people. Everything was delicious. Service was a little slow, but given the small space and the crowd of people that kept coming it wasn't that bad. Besides, it gave us time to read the history of Serendipity 3 and enjoy the Tiffany lamps and other characteristics of the place. The six of us shared a Frozen Hot Chocolate and Hot Fudge sundae because our meal portions were so generous we didn't have that much room left for dessert! Definitely put this place on your visitor's list.
