3 Stars: Special Treat (by LD2331)

Once you start feasting on the frozen hot chocolate you forget how long you waited on line. My daughter and I go annually for a special treat.

5 Stars: Why the Wait? (by Nativeater)

Used to live down the block from here; due to the perpetual out-the-door wait, I would pop by an hour before, go eat elsewhere, and then head back for the reason to go--the dessert. The frozen hot chocolate is a much-imitated but unequaled classic. Not the cleanest joint, but chock full of retro, cute ambiance. Skip dinner and eat up dessert. Want to try the Vegas one next time I'm there.

5 Stars: if i say its bad mabye i won't have to wait as long! (by nylovesit)

Serendipity 3 is My Favorite!

Put your name in before you go shopping because the wait is likely to be a few hours-- completely worth waiting for!!! The food is nothing special but the fozen hot choclate and the forbidden broadway sundae are to die for!

Be sure that you are really hungry before ordering your sundae- or consider sharing

1 Stars: Reservations gone bad (by Bordenet)

My husband and I had reservations (which I'd called in the prior week to us flying to NYC) for our 10-year wedding anniversary dinner at 8:30pm last Saturday night at Serendipitiy. When we walked to the front desk to check in they could not find our name on their list. Then the manager spoke to us and did not believe that I had called and made a reservation over the phone. He said that I couldn't have done so when I said I did because they'd been booked up for this night before I even called them. Basically he accused me of lying to get into the restaurant. My husband was so mad and I was so disappointed that we were being treated this way. We walked away and luckily found a wonderful restaurant that could seat us right away just a few blocks away. I will never even try to dine at Serendipitiy with the way we were treated. Apparently, with the line of people waiting they feel that individual customers do not matter. I'd rather spend my money elsewhere.

1 Stars: Dry and tasteless (by CSMobileUser2)

The food was dry and tasteless. We ordered the mixed grill, sheperd pie and the shrimp fettuccine. It was a waste of money. It was understaffed and service was horrible. We wanted to order the dessert but opt for the check. It took the waitress 15 minutes to come over. When we ask for the check and no suprised she bought it to us right away.

4 Stars: A little overrated, but still an NYC must-eat! (by GirlintheATX)

I have been to Serendipity 3 on three separate visits to New York over the last 4 years. Each time has been a great experience, mostly because I made reservations well in advance. Serendipity is very good about getting those with reservations in quickly. In fact, when I called once with a party of 11, I had to split it into two groups and stagger the reservations by 30 minutes so that we could all be accomodated. While that was a little inconvenient, it shows that they are being careful not to overbook their reservations.
The food itself is good - not great, but definitely not bad. The best part of the meal, of course, is the dessert and the Frrrozen Hot Chocolate. You do not want to miss that!
Bottom line: If you make a reservation, I think you will have a great experience here.

4 Stars: Always A Favorite (by 1Upper)

This place is always a favorite of mine. You can't go wrong with the cold hot chocolate and a single order of the cakes can be shared by 2 to 3 people. The wait is a little long, but definitely worth it.

5 Stars: great food, eclectic ambience (by sportygirls5)

What a real treat this place was, unique menu and fun atmosphere. The food was yummy and the wait staff friendly, but the hostess was a Betty Davis lookalike which threw us off a bit, slightly scary with pleather tights!!!! A great experience, would definitely return. Not at all a tourist trap, this is Manhattan after all everything is geared towards the out of towner, deal with it !!!!!!

2 Stars: Avoid host with glasses (by HighSocietyPrincess0123)

There's a host with glasses in the front that has some serious attitude and needs to be fired from his job! At least be thankful that you have a job in this economy. I was very nice and patient to wait in line to get a seat. We actually waited 2 hours---until one from our party had an immediate engagement---so we had the courtesy of telling the host that we would not be returning.

Well, this host (with glasses) rudely gave me a card to the place and said that to make reservations 2-3 weeks in advance.

Being the nice person that I am, I didn't make a scene and just took it and left.

But that was uncalled for. We were at least respectful to let them know to take our name off the list---as there were many tables before us that were a no-show---and this is how we get treated?

FIRE THE HOST WITH THE GLASSES!

I've been to Serendipity 3 other times with no problems, but this guy has serious attitude and needs to be grateful about his job.

K, as a New York visiter I expected this place to be all the rage. What a let down. I really felt like I had done something wrong when I came in the door. The staff was not happy to see me at all, half the items on the menu were sold out and the cappiccino was folgers left in a kettle too long and covered up with milk and a dash of cinnimon. Couldnt wait to leave but had to wait anyway cause it took forever to get the check.

3 Stars: Overrated (by lh993)

Serendipity is a tourist trap. It is totally overrated. I definitely would not recommend it for the actual food. If you are going to go, just go for the dessert. Personally, I didn't even think that the frozen hot chocolate was all its cracked up to be but it is somewhat iconic in NY so I guess it is worth a try. Just don't go with high expectations.

1 Stars: What a bad service! (by andressafb)

Yes, the food is ok, but I don't need the attitude of the manager. I had a reservation for 10 and I got there 15 min before, our table wasn't ready, what is ok. We (3 people) asked to be seated in another table while we were waiting but they didn't let us. We had to wait 30 minutes standing and they kindly offered us the benches outside! It was 23F outside!!! Than we asked if they accepted cards, the said yes. When our bill came (for 10 people) they didn't want to take more than 4 cards but nobody said it before! The manager came and said that they wouldn't take more than five, that was our problem. Ok, you can put the rules you want, but 1 - you need to let people know or have it written somewhere; 2 - you need to be polite to your costumers. I'll never go there anymore, there are a lot of good restaurants in NY, I don't need a bad service and rude people.

4 Stars: Don't blame the waiter... (by LAJFKdiner)

I have been a recent recurring patron at Serendipity over the past few months. I found it during the early summer and have returned a few times since. I have to say that although I do get my fair share of reasons why I should speak up about my service, the desserts always seem to be blissful and amazingly perfect that it upstages anything else. This past time I had a fantastic waiter (Dan/Danny- I believe). He was one of the nicest waiters I've ever had. He made sure everything was perfect with our meal and even helped with directions on how to get some cheap theater tickets for my friend and I. As for the other things I've read about it not being suitable for kids and small...well A. it's New York City, this isn't going to be a TGI Fridays in the middle of nowhere with a huge lobby area and it's not meant for kids. The place was created for us adults, kids came along with the tourist appeal. I suggest not to bring kids if you wont control them, because I am tired of seeing too many kids loose and running around prohibiting me from enjoying my meal. Uncontrollable spoiled kids are meant for Chuckie Cheese. All in all, this place is great. If you can get past some flawed initial greeters at the door and enjoy some amazing desserts with great service, then this is the place for you. Sleep in, dine out!

1 Stars: If I could give it zero stars I would (by debbyl)

I have never felt so ripped of in my life. This is quite possibly the worst quality food I have ever had. I dine out at least 5 days per week, this was a joke and I'm not sure why the board of health has not shut this place down. The food is revolting and it is served lukewarm. Even the beverages were bad!! The soda came flat and my 5 year old spat out his warm chocolate milk. Burgers were hard as a rock, my chicken was tough as rawhide and the french fries were reheated and still cold. The only way I could imagine that anyone gave this place high ratings never has dined out before or lives out of state and comes awestruck. My husband signed on the check "overpriced awful food" and the waiter wasn't even offended, he was actually cracking up.

3 Stars: not worth the hype (by psychdoc)

Food and desserts were very good quality and each had a unique flair, like horseradish in the cole slaw. All fresh, delicious, and plentiful. Extremely slow kitchen service. Took about 35 mins. for sandwiches and burgers at 4pm and we had a reservation. Most of the staff pretentious and impatient. Our waiter, on the contrary, was very nice and gave us free French fries, since we had to wait so long (and we never inquired about the wait; he took it upon himself to apologize). Lots of rules about where you can sit and stand because it's a small place. Not very relaxing. Cute, trendy, but not sure what the big deal is about this place.

Every yr. my young niece visits we have to go here for the frozen hot chocolate. Once we had dinner & the food was fine but nothing special. The prices are high & the wait can be up to 2 hrs.
4 Stars: amazing frozen hot chocolate! (by bradley7522)

Being a New Yorker, I decided to go to Serendipity with a few gfs due to its famous hype. The place is very small and it has a very entrancing and dreamy atmosphere when you walk into the restaurant. Starving we all ordered entrees. I decided to order the famous foot long hotdogs which was decent, not great. Some friends ordered pasta dishes and steak platters which were alright as well. Then there came the dessert-- and the frozen hot chocolate, which was TO DIE FOR. It was a hefty 8.50 but you could share one with up to three people. I definitely suggest everyone to go to serendipity at least once just to try the frozen hot chocolate. It was on the pretty pricey end.... so ditch the food and go for the dessert!

I was a fan of Serendipity before the movie came out, so understand that people may go here due to the hype and be disappointed. The menu is not elaborate, but more like that of a dinner. The food is good. The place is really known for it's deserts though. unfortunately, since the movie, every tourist wants to try the place and the wait is long. Worth the wait if you value chocolate to any degree!

4 Stars: Perfect Company Event (by 39heff)

I came here for a company event, and I have to say I enjoyed my time here immensely. This place is chic, trendy, and elegant. The staff is extremely friendly and attentive. There hasn't been one thing I tried here that I didn't like. All the appetizers were good, and I was particularly impressed with the browni - fantastic! Highly recommend this place for company/professional gatherings.

5 Stars: famous frozen hot chocolate (by Sheila S.)

While visiting NYC, we made it a point to stop at Serendipity 3. Being tourists, it was hard to find! The wait was about 3 hours long, but this was during the Christmas season! It was such a fun tiny restaurant. We mostly came for their famous desserts. We had their famous frozen hot chocolate and several different pastries. It was absolutely delicious!

1 Stars: Complete waste of time, Overrated, not kid friendly (by internetconnect)

I was taking out visitors with kids, so I picked this place because it was listed under the best family-friendly restaurants. Well unless your kids don't mind waiting forever to eat, this is not a place for kids.
First of all, we had to wait an hour to get a table; they did not accept a reservation over the phone, eventhough they say that they accept reservations for lunch and dinner. There was no place to wait in the restaurant, so we had to wait outside in the street.
We then got a table upstairs: a big ugly room with bright lights, no decor, no atmosphere whatsoever, and... very very loud, lots of echoes...
It then took 30 minutes until we could order our food, and nobody warned us about the fact that it would take another 45 minutes to prepare the Curried casserole! So, more, and more wait. The kids were getting really tired by that time...
When the food came, my curried shrimp almondine casserole was pretty horrible: the shrimp were so dryed and overcooked, they were as hard as a rock! $18 for the dish: completely clueless.
The kids then had dessert, which I beleive they enjoyed. Of course it took another 30 minutes to order and get the desserts, but at that point, I guess I was even surprised it did not take anymore time.
This place is a complete waste of time and money. Stay away!
Also, if their service was more efficient, if the meal was not 3 hour-long, people would probably not have to wait forever outside for a table. I guess they didn't figure this out, or they don't care...
Now, what's up with people in this restaurant dipping french fries in frozen chocolate? Can someone explain that to me?

5 Stars: Terrific Lunch at Serendipity 3 (by Granno)

My friends and I went on recommendations from others who live in Manhattan or have visited from out of town. We didn't know to make reservations but went right at noon for lunch and only had to wait about 20 minutes. We didn't know what to expect since we had only been told about the Frozen Hot Chocolate. What a pleasant surprise it was. We all ordered different items and shared - Catcher in the Rye and Haight-Ashbury sandwiches were wonderful. The fresh fruit plate was enought for 3 people. Everything was delicious. Service was a little slow, but given the small space and the crowd of people that kept coming it wasn't that bad. Besides, it gave us time to read the history of Serendipity 3 and enjoy the Tiffany lamps and other characteristics of the place. The six of us shared a Frozen Hot Chocolate and Hot Fudge sundae because our meal portions were so generous we didn't have that much room left for dessert! Definitely put this place on your visitor's list.

I love the movie "Serendipity" which inspired me to have a dining experience at this restaurant. The frozen hot chocolate is from out of this world! I agree with Oprah 100%! I was lucky to get a reservation when my friends from California came over to visit NYC and I was very proud to take them to Serendipity. We all had a wonderful experience and we purchased more frozen hot chocolate packets to take home in NYC and CA. Highly recommended!

1 Stars: horrible service (by Wasabi2313)

I first ate at Serendipity on my honeymoon, eleven years ago, and it was fabulous. Understandably, I've had a soft spot for it ever since. But my most recent visit is likely to be my last. I took my parents when they were in town from Scotland, and to say it was a letdown would be an understatement. Up till then, my parents had been overwhelmed with the welcome New Yorkers had given them - we had had a great time. Then came Serendipity. Frankly, I was embarrassed to have raved about it to them. When we walked in, the front of the store was such a shambles you couldn't tell if there was a queue for the restaurant. When I went ahead to check, I was hauled back by a man I believe to have been the owner (and who hadn't bothered to greet me or ask if I wanted a table) and rebuked: "This is NOT the sort of restaurant where you seat yourself." Rude, rude, rude. We should've left there and then the food was a real letdown. While the desserts are great, our main courses would struggle to be described as even average. It's sad to see a favorite in decline. I hope it improves. Less time spent on headline-grabbing desserts with diamonds, and more on food quality and customer service, would be a start.

We ordered dinner but really came for dessert. We ordered burgers and fries which were scrumptious. Then came dessert. We got the (I can't think of the name of it) HUGE chocolate sunday with blackout cake. Two of us couldn't finish it. It is well worth the calories and the atmosphere is unbeatable. A little loud, but what do you expect from such a popular place. Highly recommended.

No visit to New York is complete without a visit to Serendipity 3. Call ahead and get reservations because the wait can be very long. I recommend the Forbidden Broadway Sundae. It's a chocolate lover's dream. It's got a warm brownie, vanilla ice cream smothered with hot fudge, whip cream, and a bowl lined with chocolate chips.
5 Stars: THE PERFECT FUN DATE OR VALENTINES DAY DINNER OR NIGHT OUT WITH THE GIRLS TRY THE TRADER WICS PINA COLADA (by domina1cemore)

After reading titusonthepark's review as a out of towner I enjoyed my time at serindipity even before we got there. I was siked to go to serindipity on the saturday after valentines day for a romantic just to share that massive banana split I heard so much about. It started with a phonecall that we would be late for our nine o clock because we were running late and coming from philly and the angel that answered the phone told me he would hold our table for thirty mins. and if we still were not there he would put us at the top of the list and thats just what he did and in the time it took my other half to park across the street at the lot I was being called. I really enjoyed the Trader Wics Pina Colada and the Shake Batter and Bowl Chicken but the boyfriend ruined a romantic night and we left before I could enjoy the banana split I had been dying to try all week. The place was just what you expect if a candy store or ice cream palor was designed for the kid in any adult. AS AN OUT OF TOWNER I SAW THAT THEY RECOMMEND RESERVATIONS AND BECAUSE OF THAT I DO NOT UNDER STAND THE PEOPLE WHO COMPLAIN ABOUT LONG WAITS MAKE THE RESERVATION
pros: the service, the food, and from what I saw everyone else enjoying THE DESSERT

For the last several years my wife and I have made it a ritual to let Christmas pass us by so we can have our private indulgence in January. This always includes a morning getting pampered at one of the top Spas, a spree at Bergdorf's, and my favorite Serendipity. Luckily we always go at that time when we seem to just breeze in and indulge on all our favorites. We are like two little kids trying to decide if we should have a Frozen Hot Chocolate before or after lunch. Which ever the order we never miss it!

I'm sure I'm not alone with being in shock of how expensive dining out has become in the last several months. Unfortunately I don't cook but LOVE great food. One of my favorite spots is this gem of a place where the food way over weighs the prices. I always get top notch service along with delicious comfort food favorites at diner prices. Well the prices might even be better than my corner diner, wish Serendipity was open for breakfast! And to add whip cream to the pie you never know who you might be sitting next to: Cher, Bette Midler, Bill Clinton, Marc Jaccobs, last time it was Ellen Page the starlet from Juno. What a treat!

5 Stars: SPOILING YOUR INNER CHILD (by TitusonthePark)

SERENDIPITY 3 is a NYC landmark and I am confident to say one that the City is VERY proud of. I've been enjoying the fratatetas toast, foot long hot dog, young chicken sandwich and let's not forget frozzen hot chocolate for many years. My parents took me there as soon as respectful parents would take a child into a restaurant. Not like today where you have self righteous mommies and daddies shoving their screaming kids along with their strollers down our throats, not to mention our ankles when they run you over. I always enjoy myself every time I go to Serendipty even though the wait might be overwhelming at times. The wait staff is always amusing, the hostess glamourous and once in a while you get the chance to be enchanted by the proprietor Mr. Bruce. I don't understand all the negative reviews this delightful establishment gets from all these out of towners. Restaurants in this town come and go and this one has been here for over 50 years. I wonder if these "mommies" and "daddies" marriages will last as long? And as for the snip-id comment of a review before mine that you can make frozzen hot chocolate out of your freezer, your right! You can purchase the packets and make the stuff at home! This a spot NYers will always hold dear to their heart! ENJOY!

5 Stars: RARELY GET ABOVE 14TH STREET ANY MORE BUT WHEN I DO I HAVE TO GET MY FIX OF SERENDIPITY! (by uptownkiddowntown)

Native NYer here born and raised on the Upper East Side but live in TriBeCa now. My first stop when I venture passed the 14th Street curtain (LOL) is Serendipity3. It brings back a RUSH of my childhood and all the good times had! But let's not forget the RUSH one gets gets from slurping down a Frozen Hot Chocolate maybe a little too fast as well! Never miss the burger and fries as a chaser to that yummmy secret concoction. I even indulge with purchasing some of the mix so I can bring the "magic" to my place. The only disappointment with that is that my burger is never as good and I never get fries at home. Hope this place NEVER changes!!!!

5 Stars: Just like going to the movies (by rachelbff)

Its romantic because you know it from the movie, and it looks the same... The Frozen Hot Chocolate is out of this world, and so is all of the great desserts that they have there. They have a cute little shop that has all of this fun stuff from andy warhol, to trinkets from all over the place. The wait is pretty long.. so put your name on the list and go shop at Bloomies... plenty to do over there. Totally tourist spot but so much fun for the locals too! I go as often as possible!

5 Stars: I would go again and again.... And again. (by adamwillis8)

Frozen Hot (Peanut Butter) Chocolate Desserts are amazing! We went back 2 days in a row just for these! The service is the same as any other service in New York. If you go during odd hours you can get seated right away. They do enforce the $8.50/per person minimum, but live a little people it's worth it! Reaching the minimum is easy seeing that their signature dessert is $8.50. The food isn't their speciality, but it is still good, but a little pricey like all of NYC.

4 Stars: Frozen Hot Chocolate is Divine - the signature dessert (by giginyc)

I went to Serendipity last weekend for the first time. Of course, the wait was long, but with so much to see and do in the area, the time goes quickly. The food was great! And the desserts are dreamy! My only two complaints...The pictures of men in underwear (if they were packing I would say ok, but they left much to be desired) and more ladies room. The long line that extends and weaves around patrons? tables is tacky!

4 Stars: Best Frozzen Hot Chocolate, worth the wait. Avoid weekends (by foxychickz446)

I've seen it on tv so much, I had to go and see what all the hype was about. The first time I went was during a holiday week, and the restaurant was packed! There was about a half an hour wait and it was a Thursday. The restaurant is pretty small and cramped, we were squished up next to the Christmas tree.
We ordered the Frozen Hot Chocolate and a burger and fries. The food was bland, sloppy and greasy...more like poor diner quality (though it cost about 15 bucks) The FHC is 8 or 9 bucks, but its HUGE and soooo good. Its definitely something to share. My boyfriend loved it and he doesn't even like chocolate. The second time we went was the beginning of May on a Wednesday night. The wait was definitely shorter, we only waited about 15 minutes. We only wanted a FHC, but the waiter said everyone at the table has to order at least $8.50 worth of food. So I ordered the FHC and my boyfriend was forced to order food. He ordered a ham and cheese omlette. It was HUGE!! It had to be at least 7 or 8 eggs, if not more. It was stuffed with lots of cheese and big juicy chunks of ham. It was delicious!! It was definitely worth the $10. He ate as much as he could and still left with a half. The prices are expensive but the portions are large. The waitstaff is pretty friendly too

5 Stars: Great experience, better desserts (by sminerva21)

I was slightly surprised to see such horrible reviews of this place. I mean, yeah, the service is generally a little slow and/or unfriendly, and yes, you have to wait. However, how is this different from any other trendy spot in Manhattan?

I'm don't live right in NYC (I'm more upstate), but I come to the city a lot, and every time, we try to make a stop at Serendipity. It's very old world and unique, and the experience and food is worth it. They're known for their desserts, but even their dinners are delicious. I've had the vegetable tortellini, the chicken potpie, and the lime chicken, all of which have been amazingly good. For desserts, my favorite in the Strawberry Fields sundae because it includes an entire piece of their heavenly cheesecake in the bowl! Also, the Frrrozen Hot Chocolate is to die for.

Bottom line: Expect the hostess to be a little rude. They are, afterall, at the demand of a lot of inpatient customers who are just as rude back to them. If you smile at them, they'll smile back. Go here for the atmosphere and a good time with guilt-free desserts. Expect to wait more than an hour or two, so put your name in two hours before you actually want to eat, and then go explore the awesome neighborhood this place is in. You won't be disappointed if you don't expect everything to be absolutely perfect.

If you?re in New York this is a must-try! I first wanted to try the restaurant after seeing the movie as I?m sure most people did. The food was amazing! I even took a picture of my plate before I dove in and ate the whole thing. When the time came for dessert my friends and I were stuffed but we were persuaded by the waiter to order a Broadway sundae. It was also the best dessert I have ever had. We happened to go in on St. Patrick?s day so the sundae even had green whipped cream!

I have to admit that at first, I was a bit shocked at the price but thought hey, this is NYC and went ahead anyway. Boy, I was not disappointed. The sundae was mammoth and worth every penny. The only mistake was that we had ordered food too and after having eaten it all; I was so full that it hurt to move! Anyway, it has been 3 years and I cannot wait to go back.
5 Stars: Cozy Atmosphere, Frrozen Hot Chocolate is a Must! (And so are reservations!) (by summergirl25625)

As overrated as people say Serendipity's is, I think it is a great restaurant. I went on a Friday afternoon for lunch. I strongly suggest getting reservations (2+ months in advance) or you will be waiting for 2 hours. I got in after 10 minutes from having reservations. The place has a very cozy atmosphere, but is very small and gets crowded very quickly. The frrozen hot chocolate is an absolute must. It tastes like a cross between a milkshake and frozen chocolate pudding. The items on the menu are Manhattan-priced ($$$), but the food quality and quantity is worth it.

Don't go expecting to get in because there will be a longgg wait.. It has a cozy and relaxing decor. Nice ambiance. The food, of course is the best. Specially their desserts so save room.

I went on a Wednesday at around 8pm. We were immediately seated and our server was really helpful. We ordered the Strawberry Fields Sundae and the Frrrozen Hot Chocolate. OMIGOD. It is the BEST chocolate drink i've ever had! The place is so well-decorated. I love the vibe. I feel like i'm in a friend's kitchen/dining room. It's so cozy and well-lit. Serendipity provides such a great experience - always a spirit lifter and a place to celebrate something special.

4 Stars: Great dessert, decent food, but crowded (by fillefou)

My friend made reservations so just when we got there, we were seated - no wait (this was on a Tuesday night). The table we were seated at wasn't the most comfortable - a bit close to the party next to us. Our waitress was very attentive and constantly came by to refill our water and see how we were doing. The ambience is also nice - great for families or friends. I saw a few kids running around and also a large group of friends celebrating a birthday. My friend and I both ordered sandwiches. The portions were more than enough. While the food wasn't anything spectacular for the price, it was satisfactory. We passed on the frozen hot chocolate and on the recommendation of the table next to us, ordered the Strawberry Fields sundae, which had ice cream, cheesecake, and real strawberries (in a sauce?) with whipped cream. This is FANTASTIC and HIGHLY recommended; it's great for sharing with a friend. I would return (with reservations) for just the dessert.

5 Stars: Great Ice Cream... lots of fun. (by chinagrl)

Well, perhaps we won some sort of cosmic lottery, because we showed up with a party of 9 at 11 pm on a Thursday without a reservation and were seated almost immediately. The staff was not rude to us in the slightest, even though everything about us screamed tourists (which we were). The desserts were excellent, the waiter was great, and we had a really fun time. It may be a cliched thing to do, but it was worth the hype for us. Oh, and I think adding raspberry to the Forbidden Broadway Sundae made the amount of chocolate involved more manageable...

ENJOY!

1 Stars: not baby or toddler friendly whatsoever (by tyratigerlily74)

I was soooo turned off and disappointed by this restaurant especially because I had heard that this was an absolute "must eat at" place in NYC. I had told my brother in-law and his girlfriend that we had to go because Serendipity 3 is famous for their frozen hot chocolates, so we walked over there from the Westside with my 15 month old son in his stroller only to find a sign posted right on the door saying "absolutey no strollers allowed." This sign was posted all over the front door. Being a mom I found this to be outrageously rude and discriminating to all parents going there with their babies or toddlers. I couldn't believe it! I have never gone to any restaurant in NYC no matter how small the place is and been told that we could not come in with a stroller. I asked my in-law to ask what we are supposed to do and the host said to take the stroller across the street to the parking garage. I wanted to leave but of course after I had talked-up the place so much my guests wanted to stay and wait and hour and half for their so-called awesome frozen hot chocolates. So I schelped the stroller across the street to a dingy parking garage, paid $2 to keep it there without even receiving a ticket for record or anything. Then we had to wait in the heat. The retail area was aweful with weird things on sale, nothing pertaining to a dessert type restaurant and the ambiance was far from being warm and welcoming. Then to top it all off they didn't even have a highchair for my son! All they had was a booster seat without any safety straps. So please parents beware of this trap of an aweful place. I do not recommend Serendipity 3 to anyone wanting to take a break to enjoy dessert with their little ones. It was so stressful and I'm sorry but this is not how NYC is and we do not have to accept it! NYC has far more class than this place.

If you make reservations it can be better, the service is ok, beware of the rude staff that has a thing against big women. The food is comfort food and kinda heavy and the ice cream is to be shared since it is such a huge amount.

4 Stars: Long waits but good desserts (by bobbvd)

Serendipity is always a ridiculous long wait. I would not recommend going there for dinner. If you can, try to make the lunch hours or else you'll be crammed with a bunch of tourists on a snowy manhattan day. Or even worse; a hot and sunny manhattan day. However, the restaurant has a lot of charm, unless you get seated next to the angry people on line. I can guarantee that would make it an awkward dinner. If you don't get seated upstairs or towards the inner part of the restaurant, I would say to just leave. I go there purely for its ambiance and how close it is to central park. The desserts are good and I don't think they're overrated. The strawberry sundae is heavenly. Bring a mate though because I find I can never finish a dessert by myself. The dessert prices and overall prices are reasonable. For food, I would recommend the meat loaf. This is also a very kid friendly place so bring the whole family. The service is average but the frozzen hot chocolate is definately a cut above.

Enjoy.

5 Stars: New York State Of Mind (by nystateofmind52798)

My brother and I decided to try Serendipity after we saw the movie of the same name. We were so smitten with the movie, that we made a special day trip out to NYC (We're from Chicago) to eat there. While the wait is long, and the waitstaff is a bit pushy, this restaurant is completely worth the wait. After reading the reviews on here I can understand why people can be upset with service, but they do need to understand that this is NYC!!! Get used to it. To make a long story short, we were very impressed with the service and food, (good enough for 5 subsequent trips each year) and we even met Mr. Steven Bruce, who owns the place, and he seated us at the same table that the movie was filmed at. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED, MAKE RESERVATIONS FAR IN ADVANCE TO AVOID LONG WAIT TIMES.

4 Stars: Pleasantly Surprised! Definite 'Serendipity.' (by lzybeanie)

Staff not RUDE, theyre FIRM which is necessary due to impatient/pushy patrons. Host and waiter were great for us because we had the common sense to stay out of the way until seated for our reservation.

Food was excellent which surprised us due to lukewarm reviews. Prices are high but it is the UES so what can you expect? They have some basic stuff for the less adventurous (burgers, hot dog) but I suggest taking a chance on something unusual. My Haight-Ashbury was a delicious and off-beat turkey sandwich. Husbands bacon cheeseburger and fries were excellent also.

Frrrozen Peanut Butter Hot chocolate was something between a milkshake (not as thick) and smoothie (not as icy). Very rich in flavor and large enough for 2! Despite this we also got the apple pie. Not the best weve ever had, but definitely delicious with its cinnamon walnut crumble topping.

Today was just like the movie "One Fine Day", A beautiful overcast/rainy NYC day, though I have lived here for eight months and the New York magic has definately worn away, this place brought back that special fantastic wonder and excitement of all NYC has to offer.

My two best friends and I had heard many many good things about Serendipity 3, and decided to try it out. We had to put our names down and wait, so we came back after about two hours and were finally seated. Let me tell you, the food was most definitely worth the long wait. It was the best food I have ever eaten, especially the desserts. If you want to know what a real restaurant is, I VERY HIGHLY recommend Serendipity 3. If for nothing else, go for a Frrrozen Hot Chocolate. It really is the greatest culinary creation of all time!

3 Stars: It's the experience that counts, right? (by espressoshot)

You're definately going to have to book reservations, otherwise you're probably not getting in, especially if you're rolling with a large party. And please don't try to hassle with the overstressed waitstaff. Their just trying to keep the little sardine-packed shop organized. The restaurant is sardine-packed around the clock. Dinner here isn't the best, it's more about the dessert.

But but.. There's really nothing special, but it's really the experience that counts. Basically, it's just like you strolled into a Friendly's and enjoyed dinner and ice cream. The frozen hot chocolate (as seen on Oprah) is basically a milkshake and the caviar burger must be some ritzy take on the "hamburger but with caviar" for any fanny-packed idiot to fall for, simply to take in the thrill of eating on the UES...since the restaurant sits on East 60th in the heart of the UES.

5 Stars: Serendipity describes it PERFECTLY!! (by msnyc18)

I love this place despite the wait. They have great food, and yes, it is over priced, but its so good that you end up not caring. Its a carefree lighthearted environment and it is great for families and dates. EXPECT TO WAIT UP TO TWO HOURS.... thats how popular it is. The good thing about that is, because of where its places, you can put you name on the list, go to the movies around the corner, and then come back with a table ready. For Families, Dylans Candy Bar is at the corner and there are other places near by that make this a great choice. If you dont go for anything else, go for the DESSERTS... with things like Frozen Hot Chocolate, Du Yu Fondu, and Strawberry's in Cream .. you can't go wrong!

1 Stars: way way overrated!!!!!!!!! (by annetteaw17)

serendipity 3 must have family members in both Zagats and Frommers! I am shocked that this restaurant would have been so highly reccommended by both sources. NYC is one of the most multicultural and dynamic cities in the world, with some of the greatest restaurants! Serendipity was incredibly overrated, (the decor was not "whimsical" at all, and the food was way below average, as well as being very very overpriced!!! (A $12 sandwich was highly uncalled for!!) This place is a "state of mind" place!!!!!!! With so many other fantastic restaurants in NYC, why anyone would wait on a 1 to 2 hour waiting line is beyond me. Our waiter was very nice, however, he was very much overworked, thus, the service was incredibly slow!!!!! Please, do not fall into any traps!!! Serendipity 3 is not worth your time and your money!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am a visitor to NY and was looking forward to enjoying dessert at this spot. Dessert was great, but the rude staff ruined my whole experience. The wait on a Sunday afternoon was 1.5 to 2 hours. The staff act like customers are an inconvenience, instead of having a good attitude and customer service.

Well, after seeing a lot about this restaurant (even on the Oprah show) I decided to go there and see. Unfortunately, the food is awful, the staff really doesnt care about you, and the frozen hot chocolate is just a chocolate milkshake (it wasnt all that great) I went before lunch on a Thursday and it took me 2 hours to get in. By the way, I order a cheeseburger which for 13 dollars was really small. The place looks ok, but not nicely decorated. If you go during the summer be ready to sweat because the AC seems to be really low.

As a New Yorker, and a regular at Serendipity's, I find the "sourgrape reviews" incredible. The Food, as well as desserts, is wonderful and served in abundant portions (and worth the prices). Reservations are possible - Call a week in advance, for dinner -not just desserts. My party is always greeted warmly and the service is cordial. My children are now bringing my grandchildren and we all agree that it is just as good today as it was 20 years ago. The only problems that I sometimes see are with the guests who rudely make demands of the staff, most of whom are trying to please everybody all night and day long! I could never do what they do, or put up with the grind that goes with working in such a busy place. But it IS popular for a very good reason: It is fun!! and ALWAYS FABULOUS!

5 Stars: Cheesecake. Godsent Cheesecake. (by lauriliama)

I hadn't the chance to eat dinner, I had actually gone to the restaurant for dessert.. I shared a slice of Creme de La Creme Cheesecake , along with a frozen Hot chocolate.

The cheesecake was orgasmic. I had extremely high expectations for it, and sure enough, serendipity hit it right on the money.

The frozen hot chocolate is a must, when you go, but it tastes like mochaccino.Which is by all means good, but when i do it again, I'm going with some sort of espresso drink layered in fresh whipped cream, and a slice of cheesecake for MYSELF.

And remember, if youre going for dessert, arrive an hour in advance to get your name on the list.

3 Stars: Dessert please? (by pandacub143)

Came for a friend's birthday one Friday early afternoon. Was quite surprised there wasn't the customary 1 hour line. This place is hyped- its really atmosphere and reputation you're eating. The food isn't all that great, the seating is cramped, and the staff takes their time. Things here are expensive, so if you really want to try the place out, have dessert, which really is wonderful and HUGE! but skip the dinner. And do try to get here early- the line isn't worth waiting for. Be careful with the kids- they can't run around here.

3 Stars: Soooo Overrated! (by lg777)

The not-so-friendly-cigarette-reeking waiter asked if we had any questions then when we did ask, he rolled his eyes and covered his face with the menu to say something to a passing coworker. He would interrupt us mid-sentence to say something abrupt and rude then leave and come back 15 minutes later. I highly doubt he represents most of the staff (i hope).
The "garlic cheese" sauce on my niece's pasta was more like garlic flavored clear broth--terrible! Another chicken dish drenched in "lemon butter" sauce was bland and thick--her side of fries (which we had to request as an additional side because when she requested the fries be substituted for the salad that comes with her meal, Mr. Friendly replied a quick "No.") were half frozen...and 13 bucks for a dessert crepe???
The generous portion of Frozen Hot Chocolate was yummy but not the fantasy it is advertised to be.

We are in New York visiting MSKCC for our 3 year old daughter's cancer treatment. Every one recommended that we go to Serendipity 3. We left early to beat the crowds, myself, husband, 3YR old daughter, and 10M old son. Upon arriving, they yelled at us that we needed to leave our strollers on the street, they were not allowed in the restaurant. We left our strollers out not knowing if they would be there when we finished. Inside, we were treated to stares, as if "I can't believe you brought children in here", and were treated only marginally kindly. We got the distinct impression that children were NOT welcome. The food was good, and the atmosphere would have been enjoyable if we had not felt that they couldn't wait for us to get the kids out. Fine restaurant, but I definitely would NOT taut it as "kid friendly".

4 Stars: Oh My! (by tigerace72)

My #1 objective in coming here was to see what a Frozen Hot Chocolate could be. Well, it was all it was hyped up to be and more! You might think it's a milk shake, but it's definitely Frozen Hot Chocolate! Your only decision is when to have it - with your meal or as a dessert. My recommendation is to bring it on early and enjoy. The rest of the meal was good and the atmosphere very festive. This is a don't miss if you are anywhere close to the area, but if you're going for lunch, be there by noon to avoid a wait.

5 Stars: Better than the Movie (by rhurley1218)

I can see why they made a movie involving this place. While it is small and the wait was 2+ hours (Just make a reservation to circumvent that problem) it was well worth the wait. The frozen hot chocolate is 8 bucks and has 17 kinds of chocolate in it. SO GOOD. I suggest skipping a cab and walking back after eating these desserts, you won't feel so guilty after.

I recently dined at Serndipity and it was great! I went after a play and loved that it is open until 12am during the week. The burgers are great, and the frozen peanut butter hot chocolate was the best dessert I've ever had!!! Service was so so, but that's anywhere in NY. If you love chocolate, this is the place for you!!

3 Stars: ALITTLE OVER RATED (by fabfinds22)

This place is cute, its a NY Landmark..........but beyond all that, its JUST PLAIN OLD HYPE. The first time I went there Iwas expecting a magical experience, I was met with a near claustophbic attack due to bottleneck congestion in the foyer, andso so food, a huge frozen hot chocolate that frankly I could easily make at homeand a bill for 78.00. Was it a repeat? NO. Will I go there again? YES, because of course any visiting friends or relatives who know of it absolutely insist on having their own Serendipity experience!! So........off we will go and my feelings will not change. But its one of NYC's faces that people love to glorify because its such a NYC thing. So, go if you must, but don't set the bar too high.

5 Stars: Worth the Wait (by kwolff21)

Perhaps I will move back to NYC someday, where I spent a wonderful 3 years, but one location holds a special place in my heart...and belly - Serendipity 3. This eclectic Upper East Side restaurant is an absolute "must visit" for chocolate lovers (like ME). Very few desserts can hit the spot quite as well as a frozen hot chocolate. And, although the food may seem overpriced to some, the portions are large and the food is very tasty. Yes, the "wait" to get in sounds/looks horrific, but it's not. And...it's always worth it. You must realize that going to Serendipity is more than going out to get dessert - it really is a special event. I now live 11,000 miles away, but I will return to NYC again and again...at least for a frozen hot chocolate.

5 Stars: So good we had to go back again! (by cinnamongirl75)

Originally, we went with the intent of eating and then having dessert...this is not possible so we went back and just got dessert. The first time, I had the steak char char. It was possibly the best steak I have ever had. Comes with a delicious salsa. The second time, I had strawberry fields which was delicious. I also tryed my families pink lemonade ice and signature hot chocolate which were both devine! If we had been in NYC any longer, we probably would have went back again. There always seems to be a wait but the host is kind enough to take your name and tell you to check back in in 30 minutes. Bloomies is close by so you can shop while you wait! Very crowded entry way.

3 Stars: skip straight to dessert (by offtheshoulder)

I have been to Serendipity's more than a couple of times, and no matter how many chances I give the Frrrozen Hot Chocolate, I simply cannot and do not understand the hype surrounding it. Try the Pink Ice instead, which is surprisingly refreshing. The Dark Double Devil Mousse is rich and satisfying. But skip the overpriced entrees and appetizers; the dessert portions are gigantic and filling. Get there early to minimize the wait, or make a reservation. It is crowded even during lunch on Wednesdays. The service is friendly and generally helpful, although a little slow at times.

3 Stars: Not so bad (by lucky2000)

After reading some of the reviews, I was a little nervous about taking my visiting family to Serendipity, but thought it might be fun for the kids. We had a reservation for Monday lunch and were seated promptly, which was a pleasant surprise. It did, however, take 30 minutes for our waiter to take our order, but he was pleasant enough and the food was good and not terribly expensive. Skip the Frrrozen hot chocolate and try the Humble Pie or the Broadway Sundae. It was overall a good experience although I doubt I'll go back unless I have out-of-towners who want to go.

3 Stars: Cute Place, but once is enough (by Bridget_Jones)

It's a very cutsie, novelty place that you might want to check out once if you are in the area and have nothing better to do. I wouldn't make a special trip to go there, unless you are taking people from out of town. Ffffrozen Hot Chocolate was good. It tasted like a few packages of Ghiradelli cocoa, crushed ice and melted double chocolate ice cream. (that's probably the recipe, so if you can't make the trip to Serendipity, try whipping that up in a blender) Service was excellent though. Very friendly host and very attentive and patient waiter. (Even though I was only there for dessert) Lovely decor inside. It's cute for a date if you are under 18, but It's not a sophisticated place. It's ok. It's like what you would imagine.

1 Stars: Awful and so over-rated (by anackman)

You know what so funny about this terrible dessert place? It's in Manhattan and there are about another 200 in this great city that are so unbelievably better, including Pattsy's which is right across the street. The host was the rudest person I have met in all my life. He was so pretentious and obnoxious. The wait staff as a whole had the mentality that they worked at a truly reputable and important place in Manhattan, when in reality Serendipity couldn't be farther away from a true Manhattan dessert place. It is such a tourist trap. Anyone who is from NYC should know never to go here. My ice cream was melted and the waiter couldn't care less about fixing it. He forgot that he makes minimum wage at a lousy ice cream shop.

3 Stars: Melted Ice Cream (by risen_feenix)

The famous "frozen hot chocolate" tasted like melted ice cream, that's all. Had an omelette, wasn't bad. Server was a nice guy, no complaints. Decor was kitschy (had the honor or smashing my head on a low hanging Tiffany lamp), but all the kids and tourists were annoying. Definitely hated the vibe. There were children everywhere, the restaurant is terribly crowded with loud, subtly obnoxious people, and finally, not all that cheap considering what you were getting. Serendipity is very much like a diner marked up an extra 100%.

4 Stars: Speaking solely on the desserts.. (by gigib04)

The desserts were fabulous! I went there with three friends, and we managed to obliterate two sundaes. My guy friend and I shared the Can't Say No Sundae (a rich concoction of peanutbutter pie, ice cream, hotfudge and whipped cream) and it was fabulous! The other two in our group shared the Strawberry Cheesecake sundae, which was equally satisfying. I can't speak on behalf of Serendipity's "real" food, as we are all dessert afficiandos, with little desire to waste our appetites on anything remotely healthy.

Be sure to go early to put your name on the list- and be prepared to wait an hour or so.

Going to this restaurant was #1 on my daughter's list of places she wanted to go in NYC. We went yesterday on 03/16/03. This place has a reputation for their desserts, so we ate a small but overprices lunch to save room for the desserts. The dessert menu was actually very small. There were no mouth watering displays of delicious dessert. For the 4 of us, we had 2 ice cream sundaes and one apple pie. The apple pie was terrible. More like a coffee cake. The ice cream was good, but the fudge sauce did not taste homemade. My sister-in-laws is 100 times better. The restaurant was cramped and the service was slow.

4 Stars: Serendipitous Gluttonous (by flipcityboy)

It's more than serendipity to find such a charming place like this in the city. I had a lazy lunch on a weekday with my sister and there was no need for reservations as we got seated right away in a booth. My turkey and Brie on a baguette with sprouts was a nice light fare because I'm saving room for the notoriously famous Frozen Hot Chocolate. The moment of truth comes and I was reduced to a satiated puddle of bliss on first sip. Chocolatey nirvana in a considerably large cup. You can share one serving or if you're too greedy, bare your fangs if an extra straw is dunking in without your permission.

5 Stars: Serendipity 3 is Lives Up to It's Name! (by DaniLanchy)

I am from the west coast and first saw Serendipity 3 on the movie Serendipity. Ever since then I knew I would just have to go there when I finally made it to New York. It is a very unique spot, and although somewhat isolated, VERY busy. Expect to wait if you are unable to get a reservation, and if you can... Keep It! That's a pretty rare thing according to our hotels concierge. Overall, the food was good, and the environment is very cute, and one of a kind. I love Serendipty 3, it is a great place for a GREAT dessert!

3 Stars: Snobby Serendipity (by Katjh80)

I must admit that this place has one of my very favorite desserts and it is called the Forbiden Broadway Sundae, but it is hard to take the attitude that comes with it. The wait is always horrible unless you go on a weeknight and the service is usually below par. The food is way overpriced and not good, but the desserts are to die for and this is why this place is still going strong. Everyone should go once esp if you have a sweet tooth!

4 Stars: YUM YUM! (by aka_orchid)

This place is a MUST for dessert lovers - the prices are cheap but the portions are fairly large - most desserts can be split amongst 2 people, but be ware that there is a $5 min. charge per person. The host is not very friendly, and be prepared to wait if you do not have a reservation (I recommend making one if possible). The place is semi romantic, and attracts a lot of tourist on weekends. NYers should go there during the weekday to avoid the crowds.

3 Stars: Bad service, ridiculous prize (by Loveheart)

Since this place is so famous, I decided to try it out, there's so many people, and we had to wait 1 and 1/2 hour. When we finally seated, we have to wait again for another 20 min until the waiter come, he was not a very pleasant waiter, didnt smile, was just doing his job writing food and very snobby. The food was good, I ordered omelette, it was huge, I ordered frozen hot chocolate. I didnt understand why everyone is talking about this chocolate thingy since the taste is like ovaltine mixed with ice, some milk or some cream, with a whipped cream in the middle. That's about it. Btw, the price is ridiculous, what kind of an ice cream would be prized at 10 dollar??!!

1 Stars: worst I've ever been in (by sam213)

They told us it was a ten minute wait, one hour later we were seated. We ordered one hamburger and one hot dog and one desert to split between us. Thirty minutes later they brought our dessert which tasted like Ovaltine or Alba 77 blended with ice. Fifteen minutes later I asked for the check and was given a shocked look and asked "don't you want your meal?" I replied no and about ten minutes later they brought my meal but no check. It is amazing to me that this place thrives if this is the way they do business. I reas about this place on your web site before I left San Diego. I warn others this place is not worth it. If you do decide to brave it stay away from the waiter with the mohawk. He should be behind a desk crunching numbers, far from the public.

4 Stars: Great dessert, if you can get thru door (by cgar123)

We went to Serendipity on Labor Day and it was packed so we had to wait. I did not have a problem with this what I had a problem with was the horrible attitude from the staff at the hostess station. There were four or five different people working the station and everyone was more obnoxious than the next. I understand that this place is popular but it was apparent that they did not care if you stayed or not. We did stay and the desserts were to die for. I recommend the frozen hot chocolate, but big enough to share. Great for kids, but make reservations well in advance!

We visited this "famous" place on our last trip to NY. We tried to get a reservation, but were denied. After standing in line for about 45 minutes, we got a table. There were 3 empty tables around us for the first 40 minutes, so I'm not sure why we were refused a reservation. The service was horrible, the food was just average, but the desserts were good. The famous frozen hot chocolate is too big for one person, I suggest sharing. They also charge a minimum per person, but it's reasonable.

Definately the place to go for ice cream. I can't comment on the rest of the menu because all I got was desert. The wait is long and it's usually very crowded.
5 Stars: Just wonderful (by Jatosa)

I've been going there since high school and I'm now 56. It still has the same charm. I love bringing new friends here. Even native NYers who visit the first time love it.

4 Stars: One Word...Delicious!! (by Deborah_G)

My husband and I visited Serendipity 3 for the first time this past weekend. We were in NYC celebrating our 11th Anniversary. I was a little skeptical after reading the mixed reviews on this site, but we still took a chance. Our desserts were fantastic. The frozen hot chocolate was good; but, the Forbidden Broadway Sundae was out of this world. We were told it was an hour wait and ended waiting 45 minutes. The host was very pleasant and our waiter went out of his way to be nice. An enjoyable evening!!!

4 Stars: Frozen Hot Chocolates!! (by jl012)

Most likely have to wait an hour...but the frozen hot chocolates are sooo worth it on a hot summer afternoon. The inside is really fantastic as well....The price is on the pricey side though...so eat somewhere else and just go straight for the dessert.

4 Stars: Sweet Serendipity (by beatle919)

Yummy is the only word I can think of to describe their famous frozen hot chocolates! The food is hit and miss. My entree was not too shabby while my friend's was just plain unpalatable. The food is somewhat expensive.

3 Stars: good and bad (by hurley1607)

A friend and I went to Serendipity because we had heard so much about it. Our waiter was actually pretty nice, but then, we are really nice. But the host was kind of a jerk. However, I agree with the one person that said the customers were obnoxious. It was like snobby's day out. We overheard lots of conversations from people sitted around us. It was too yuppie and snobby and people trying to be trendy. Its funny how people trying to be classy end up just acting snobby. anyways, we only had the frozen hot chocolates, which i thought were pretty good.

5 Stars: 9 (by Dmah)

Just Fabulous! OK, so it doesn't have a kids menu (they claim the misinformation on this site is not their doing) We stayed anyway, in spite of the hour wait to get in (there's great window shopping on the block) AND GLAD WE DID! There were many (huge) portion choices for us all. The food was very good. The staff was charming and efficient which was remarkable for such a busy place. But I can't understand the impatience of some self appointed elitist customer types ... This place is so busy. Our waiter was on top of everything even though he had another large table running him ragged. The staff should be commended for THEIR patience! Well be back!

4 Stars: 3 Words: Frozen Hot Chocolate is (by crystalpespi)

I've never actually had dinner here, because I wanted to make sure I would have enough room for the stupendous frozen hot chocolate. One is big enough for at least 2 people, so bring a date and share. I always bring my out-of-town guests here and they all love it.

4 Stars: overcrowded and overpriced (by annajason)

The desserts are great, but overpriced. Don't waste your time and money eating regular food here, just go straight for the sugar. The two hour wait during peak hours is ludicrous! I wouldn't recomend this place except...mmm, those desserts.

4 Stars: Some tips for tourists (by lcham)

Serendipity has some of the best desserts in NYC. YES, you're going to wait awhile, and the service is not always going to be quick, but that's usually because many people come from all over to eat here. And this IS NY so don't go expecting to get value for your money. Go as late as you can for dessert (eat dinner someplace else) and wait outside for your table. But definitely go. So worth it.

3 Stars: It was okay. (by limpaway)

I must say that I was drawn to this place after watching Serendipity the movie since it was so sweet. The only thing I ordered was the frozen hot chocolate because it's supposed to be a favorite there. However, it wasnt that great. I wasn't really expecting a chunk of frozen hot chocolate. I just thought that was the name for the ice cream. As for the service, it was okay as long. I didn't find anyone rude. It was just a normal place. I found the inside to be a bit dark though. But the lamps where quite pretty.

5 Stars: Serendipity is worth the trip (by angiek)

As an ice cream addict, I knew I wanted to visit Serendipity 3 on my first trip to NYC last week, but I wasn't sure what to expect after reading all the bad reviews on this site. I was pleasantly surprised. The man working the register in the small gift shop was extremely friendly and our waiter was polite and courteous. The desserts were heavenly! I'm not sure the people who wrote the bad reviews went to the same restaurant. I will definitely visit Serendipity on my next trip to NYC.
