Whimsical dishes such as "Young Chicken Sandwiches", "Curried Chicken Almondine Casserole", "Bi-Sensual Burger",& "Madame Butterfly Pasta" has made ordering almost as fun as eating! Yummmm, why have dessert where you had your dinner when you can come here after dinner elsewhere and munch on the BEST cakes and cupcakes ever???? I used to use this place whenever I wanted to impress a date, especially an out of town date. Now that I'm settled, I come here with my partner all the time or bring my parents when they come from out of town. LOVE IT AND GIVE IT TWO THUMBS UP.

We tried Serendipity 3 for the first time and it was absolutely out of this world! We ordered the famous frrrrozen hot chocolate and the Cinnamon Fudge Sundae. I was so happy that my husband and I decided to order to the Cinnamon Fudge Sundae because it was unlike anything else I'v ever eaten, it was out of this world scrumptious. The BEST dessert that we've ever had. The Cinnamon ice cream was delicious was an amazing surprise, it was absolutely the best and well worth our 15 bucks. I can't wait to go back!!
Serendipity 3 is the greatest. A small restaurant, is delectable. Best for lunch The decor is fabulous. The appetizers are excellent. The desserts are to die for
Serendipity 3 is THE ABSOLUTE BEST ICECREAM PLACE EVER!!! Some impatient people seem to think the hour to two hour wait is not worth it. WELL THEY ARE WRONG!! It is SO worth it. Not only are the sizes gargantuos, but its amazing quality!
Excellent ! Me and my daughter enjoyed it as part of our trip to nyc. Well organized once in the building. Very courteous professional staff.
fresh toppings layered on what seems to be mountains of ice cream and hot fudge= an experience you really SHOULDNT pass up! i went there with a friend and me and him are ice cream heavyweights, but even me and him had massive trouble conquering this scale lactose model of mount everest! CHEERS, GOOD TIMES!!!
I cannot recommend this enough. You have not truly lived if you haven't been to Serendipity 3.
It was a great experience for all the kids to see the skyline of the city. They really enjoyed it.
Always a cute spot
Cool place to visit specially if you visit this place together with your friends. This is the place where you can hang out and eat ice cream. We visited the place last week with my friends. We enjoyed eating our ice cream. They have this quality the no other ice cream place have. The service was great but the price quite fine. But overall we had fun.
They have amazing sundaes!!

I love the food here but the gift shop is also a hidden gem. I find the best gifts for friends, teenagers and adult, hidden in the shop beneath the restaurant. Real NY find!
whehter you have a sweet tooth or not, this place is AmAzInG! my personal favorite is the ice cream, wonderful imaginative desserts and its so hard to choose from the selection that youll get a headache before your first brainfreeze!!!
My family and I have visited the cute place but the people were not friendly at all both trips we were in NY so next trip we will skip all together.
For all those who enjoy Peanut Butter, the Frozen Peanut Butter Hot Chocolate is out of this world.
Yum
The wait is long but totally worth it! It is hard to decide what you should get. The desserts all look amazing and sound great. If your in the city for the night or live there ...this is place to go for a special desserts and great ice cream.
Long wait but worth it, the food is Delicious and the Sundaes are great.
The ice hot chocolate is awsome and easily worth the price. It was definitely delish. I shared it with 2 friends and we passed it around like it was a drug.
Everyone wants the frozen hot chocolate, its pretty good, just be prepared to wait.
My wife and I visited on our Anniversary two years ago ... it was the best lunch and dessert we have ever had.
I had the outrageous banana split and it was outrageously good. If you come I recommend you come early or make a reservation.
I like their huge dessert; recommend Forbidden Broadway (super huge and sweet) and Frozen Hot Chocolate ;)
Contrary to what other reviewers said- I found all the staff, including the host, very friendly and effecient. In their defense- I saw lots of people trying to "beat the system" to avoid the wait. I'm sure they have seen and heard it all and it probably gets a little old. Anyway, they were all very cordial. Food was delicious and of course desserts were phenomenal. Well worth the wait.
I and my sister went to this cute restuarant in may and we love this place. The queue was long and we have to wait around 1 hour (on weekday night0, but it was worth it. The staff are really nice and the atmosphere is really romantic. I and my sister are thinking about bringing our dates to this place next time. The food is so-so, but the dessert is to die for! Especially "Frozen Hot Chocolate." So, be sure to save room for desert because the size is very hugh. I would definitely go there again next time we visit NYC.
Went here for the first time with Friends last week. Wow great desert. Frozen hot chocolate was great.
Going to New York, I was determined to pay another visit to Serendipity. I had made a reservation and LUCKY for me, a 'hurricane' as they called it, was on NY and there was no-one around. On a Tuesday lunch-time, I got there earlier and we were seated immediately. I agree, Serenditpity IS overdone but it is still nice to have one of their Black devil + ice ream - we ate a cheese burger and then desert - expensive but fun...
We visited Serendipity 3 last month, we were visiting from England so called a couple of weeks before to make reservation, which was definately worth doing. Monday evening 7.30 and the queue was out the door...we just walked to the front and our table was ready!! The food was lovely, and even though everyone was full we had to have one of their famous deserts. The whole experience was great, good service even though it was really busy and the staff were really friendly. We will definately be going back nex time!!!
Serendipity 3 is must for all New York visitors. This two story, yet small restaurant, offers quests quite a treat. Whether you go during lunch (the best time) or dinner, the staff treats you like you own the place. The decor is fabulous. The appetizers are excellent. Main courses are an exciting fare. The desserts are to die for. Serendipity 3 is known for its frozen hot chocolate. BUT if you want an unforgettable treat, order the maple walnut sundae. While it is large enough to share, please don't. If you do you'll never forgive yourself. So eat the whole thing. Just be prepared to walk it off. It's sooo good.
Another tip: A little froozzen hot chocolate goes a long way. Just get one to a table. Don't overlook the other desserts either. Mousse is excellent -- blackout cake with ice cream or the apple pie. Don't forget the cheesecake.
Take surroundings with a grain of salt and don't overlook the goodness here.
Even though I've been coming to Serendipitys for 35 years, not only hasn't anything changed, the food is as good as ever, and it is FUN.
i love this place been going for yrs;)
Diasppointed to see that many (all? - we had their chocolate and triple espresso) of their ice creams now use
- Guar Gum
- Locust Bean Gum
- Carrageenan
all at the same time. Yikes! We loved the ice cram they make, but now won't touch it. Had some lately and wondered why it tasted funny. Then we read the list of ingredients. Looks like the expansion of their business drove a once great brand to focus more on profits than on the quality that got them to the top.
The Frozen Hot Chocolate at Serendipity is just mind blowing. It was so large that I suggest that you share it. The chicken wings were really nice and the desserts are fantastic. My sisters thought that the waiters were quite some eye candy too! They'll go back just to look at them :-) The wait was 45 minutes when we got there but luckily we made reservations and were seated right away.
It was a late summer night (2010) and I wanted a sweet treat, so my friend and I decided to go to this place since we've heard of it (movie, others, etc). I ordered Ftatateeta's Toast and my friend got the banana split. Both were very tasty!
Great Family Place
Dessert was amazing! We had the "Can't Say No" Sundae, the Forbidden Broadway Sundae and the Frrrozen Hot Chocolate to share between us. That proved a good decision 'cause the servings are very big.
We went on a weekday afternoon around 4pm. We went there specifically for teh frozen hot chocolate. Maybe its cuz im a chocolate and icecream lover, but i thought that thing was amazing. I would totally have it again and again if i could. We also ordered their carrot cake. That was delicious as well! i loved how the place was decorated. its like grandma's cupboard or something, filled with all these lamps and knick knacks. We didnt have to wait to be seated so that was awesome. I cant wait to go back and try everything on the menu.
The table shared the ridiculously large and fantastic Banana split. Very, very good. We eyeballed a lot of other tables and all sweets appeared to be excellent.
frozen hot chocolate is awesome but the best thing here is probably the broadway sundae its a chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream and lots of hot fudge and whipped cream and chocolate chips!! its so delicious.
It 's a very special and beautiful place, famous for their specialty the "Frozen Hot Chocolate", a kind of (huge) granita with whipped cream that tastes like hot chocolate! I advise you to plan your day to visit the part of the Upper East Side and going to leave your name with at least 2 or 3 hours ahead of time in which you want to make your break in there because the queue is mileage and wait forever! Is there a minimum spending of $ 9 a diner (Agiosdecorated in December 2010), in addition to their specialty dishes are served hot hamburger type (and not just think ..) that you can choose from their huge menu that will be on the table when you arrive. The restaurant is decorated in a really unique, is full of lights and mirrors, a real treat!
If you don't have patience I suggest you go 2 hours before closing time as I did. haha No line, no wait. I sat on the second floor where it is a bit more spacious than the ground floor. Interior is pretty cute and princessy, dream like fairytale. Ohh the menu... I wanted to take it home with me. :) I definitely enjoyed packing on those calories on a late Thursday night. It is smart choice to share a sundae with a friend unless you haven't eaten the whole day. I had the Strawberry Fields Cheescake sundae. My tastebuds were filled with joy!
Came here tonight and tried their new Frozen Oreo Float and it was amazing! If you like mint chocolate chip ice cream then this is what your ordering!
I also want to comment about the wait time. I've been here quite a few times over the past few years and a lot of the reviews complain about the wait but I have to say I have never waited more than 20-30 minutes to get a table. I have no clue if I'm just lucky or I come at the right time but for the people who get turned away by just looking at the crowd standing outside I would say give it a shot....don't give up right away.
For starters, my review is based exclusively on their "Apple Pie" and the "Frozen Hot Chocolate," Not on the menu as a whole, as i didn't get to experiment with the whole thing.
I'm a big fan of pie, and this apple pie is definitely on my top 5 list! Tasted home-made! the whip cream was unlike anything i've ever head, light, and full! perfection, to say the least. It left me licking my plate.
The frozen hot chocolate was delicious! Such an interesting concept, and big enough for a small family to share. it was thick, chocolatey, and topped with whip cream.
This is going to be one of those dessert places that will continue to keep visiting me in my dreams, until the next time that we are able to meet again.
Side note: the wait was about an hour and a half... You should stop by and put your name on a list and then come back later for dessert. That's what we did and it worked out splendidly :)
One word only: YUMMY!
All I have to say is - Strawberry feilds. This place has the best dessert. I recommend spiltting an entre and getting your own deserts!! :D
After trying to get into Serendipity 3 the few NYC trips previous, I finally made it in. And it did not disappoint. LOVE LOVE LOVE the frozen hot chocolate. I've had the one in Vegas, but there's something so special about going to the original home of the frozen hot chocolate. The ambience is so cute.
Cheesecake was amazing, frrozen hot chocolate equally good. Definitely returning when I head back to NYC , will be worth the wait!!
Been going here for years with family and friends. Great desserts and nice atmosphere. Always busy but it is worth it.
I love Serendipity... it's something of a New York tradition for me to come here every time I'm in the city. The most recent time, I came with my bf, his mom and sister. We ordered a whole bunch of sweets (frozen hot chocolate, banana split [coward's portion], and some kind of pie + ice cream + strawberry + whipped cream concoction). Hands down, my favorite is still the frozen hot chocolate -- I get it every single time and it never gets old. I would come back to try food items as well, but my stomach never seems to have room...
