Nandina combines the hot trends for sushi and tapas dishes. Some dishes are ideal for sharing but some you should be selfish and keep for yourself. Nandina is well known for it's beautiful patio complete with fountains and shade trees. Perfect for enjoying lunch on a warm, Spring afternoon. Come a little later to enjoy happy hour, with a full bar and Premium Sake. Have some work to finish up, take advantage of the Free Wifi they offer to the customers. Nandina specializes in Asian Tapas and Sushi but also has a broad menu of Thai dishes and Japanese creations. They offer take out, late night dining (staying open until 3am) as well as delivery within a 5mile radius. Yes, delivery is convenient but you really need to come down and experience this authentic Asian Tapas gathering spot first hand. We look forward to seeing you soon. Note - Free parking in lot behind restaurant.

The Scene
The sleek interior features lightly toned walls, accented by dark floors and ceiling. A clear waterfall draws attention while the outdoor patio provides a (just far enough away) view of Greenville. The patio is a quieter area for dining. Servers are attentive and courteous, while patrons consist of business types and M Street residents. Delivery is offered to a limited area. The full bar offers sake, wine and beer in addition to mixed drinks.

The Food

The menu is sushi and Thai dishes designed for sharing. A strong starter is the pot sticker-like basil chicken wrap. For variety and simplicity, sushi combos are a good bet with tuna, shrimp, salmon pieces. The crunchy roll is fetching with the interior tempura mixing with the soft rice exterior. Thai options include invigorating curry dishes, such as the chicken panang--the zesty sauce is addictive.

Key Points

  • Happy Hour w/ Small Plates
  • Lunch Specials w/ Patio Dining
  • Premium Sake and Full Bar

The Inside Scoop

  1. Save Time - While the location is off the beaten path, it offers a relief from the bustling Greenville Avenue restaurant mayhem.
  2. Where to Sit - Weather permitting, the patio is a pleasant spot for quiet conversation.
  3. Save Money - Sushi combos are enough for two.

Do not get delivery!

by rillion

Nandina's food is very nice-- if you should happen to get all of it the first time around. Unfortunately, on multiple occasions they have neglected to deliver up to half of the food order we'd asked for delivery. It makes me very sad, as I very much enjoy their lettuce chicken wrap hot tapas and other dishes....but sad to say, I will not be ordering from them for delivery again. Upon receiving a call that part of the order was not delivered, the person answering the phone said it would be delivered "soon"-- which meant in about 40 minutes after all of the other food is cold and you're close to starving. Not to mention, we ordered sushi once and it had decidedly gone bad long before we received it. Sorry Nandina, we'll be looking elsewhere for delivery next time.

If you can.... Avoid Delivery!!

by jjm0050

Ok, the food is great when you go in person, but I usually don't complain about delivery orders but, seriously!!, I needed Rosetta Stone to place my order. I came home from a long night of working and had a craving for take out. So I called up Nandina's and spent 45 minutes explaining my addresses and apartment number and what I wanted to eat.. I had to spell each word with a military signals, you know, C for charlie, F for Fox or Fried rice. By the time my food arrived I was past out with a box of crackers watching sports center and had to eat it for breakfast. Like i said great food and service when dining in, just have a translator when ordering take out.

really good food on lower greenville

by nellson

I've been eating at Nandina approximately once every two weeks for the past two years, and I will keep coming back.

I mostly order my food to go, but I've dined at the restaurant many times. I'm not sure where the stories of bad service come from. The menu is a little on the pricey side if you can eat a lot of sushi like I can, but the sushi is high quality. Their tapas are always excellent.

I've had sushi at many different Dallas restaurants, and the food here compares very favorably to the other places I've been.

The parking situation leaves a lot to be desired, but that's the only draw back that I can think of.

Avoid on Friday nights and weekends, Very difficult to find parking,

by theant

My husband and I are nocturnal people, so we are always looking for places open late or 24 hours. We found Nandina, and decided to try it because we live near the place. We search the restaurant in Google to look for the menu, because I only can eat healthy food, I can't drink sodas or alcohol, etc etc (medical issues). We were interested in the prices also. Nandina's menu published on internet shows you dishes for less than USD 20, and the standard price is 10 - 15 USD. When you go there, you find the same dishes (like sashimi) for almost USD 40. I don't have problems if I know the restaurant is expensive, but I hate those "magical" changes. If we had trusted the website, we had had a terrible surprise with the check.

And the location is not good either. It's very difficult to find parking (It says you can park on the street but we saw several car being towed... ) , and even if you are paying for it, it looks very dangerous to leave your car there. You can see lots of weird drunk and agressive people in the neighbourhood. I don't think I'll come back there and I won't recommend the place to our friends.

Pros: Open late, interior and exterior space

Cons: Dangerous neighbourhood, Parking

Yummy

by 2olivetini

I eat at Nandina seriously 2-3 times a week. I live around Lower greenville and nothing tastes better at 2:30 am than some hot lo mein, but I eat there for dinner and take out all the time. It has glitches just like every place does but it consistently has great food. The service is spotty but when you eat here regularly you get to know the staff and see they're all a little quirky but never meaning to be rude so don't take it personal. I prefer to get my sushi elsewhere (its ok but not great) but if you go definitely get the Thai Lo Mein, pad Thai, or any of the other noddle or soup dishes. Oh, and the golden samosas. yummmm.

Pros: Open late, delivery, consistent

Cons: Quirky staff

not same taste, no more nandina

by leedallas

I always eat at nandina after club close and now i noticed that everything has changed recently, first i can see thai food is not the same taste, it not the same as i eat before, the taste was bad and the food decoration is not look good too and sushi is not fresh as before and i can see lots of new staff and new manager, and she doesnot understand how to work in the restaurant cause she looks confused when we ask her something and she cannot answer right away, it doesnot look like professional at all. so our group decided to go eat somewhere else next time. and also the parking lot very tiny space and look very scary and dark and always some car block the way out , no more nandina

AWFUL DELIVERY!

by mtinning

If you like sushi, don't bother with this poor excuse. The rice is sugared, I guess to cover the low quality of the fish. We finally received our delivery after an hour and a half and two phone calls.

Pros: There are no pros

Cons: see my review

Poor service ruins the whole thing.

by aleyna

As my party and I were waiting on our sushi and assorted appetizers to arrive at Nandina, my friend commented that he had read some reviews on a website for the service. He raved about the food though. Sampled a few rolls, lettuce wraps and edamame. Tastey food for the price range. The smooth jazz did leave something to be desired. Our food arrived in okay time. At the end of our meal the waitress came to ask if we needed to place an order for an entree and we declined, asking for the checks. We had not had any special requests and were otherwise a non-problematic table. We were just ready to get outside and smoke a cigarette. We waited 20 minutes for the check and the waitress came back again asking for our entree orders. We had to request the check from another server and explained to him we would be on the patio to smoke a cigarette. The original server brought us our check outside. We had two checks and I paid me and my fiance's portion. As I was fiddling around trying to make change and debate what tip was acceptable for the horrible delay on the check, I gave incorrect change. She sat on the patio and counted everything while my friend paid for his check. I assumed we were good to go and was a bit perturbed as I hate it when waitstaff hover when you are deciding the tip. We leave Nandina and are down the block and the waitress accosts me in front of several people saying I was stealing. I happily gave her the five dollars I had neglected as I was not attempting to ditch the check. However what perturbs me greatly is that she could have said something while we were waiting on the patio after she counted the money. I find it rather embarrasing and unprofessional for the staff of Nandina to chase me down and treat me like a theif. Honest mistake -- could have been circumvented. Also, avoid their patio.... It is right next to their garbage dumpster and the smell is horrible. Decent food, but the experience was too awful for me to return.

Bad service = bad Nandina

by mcvoysa

One night the bar tender decided it would be alright to call me 'baby' (which is NEVER appropriate). He proceded to hit on me in a vulgar manner and didn't stop until I left. Last night I ordered sushi to be delievered to my house. I was told it would arrive between 45 minutes to an hour. I waited an HOUR AND A HALF to get my food. I called several times and the girl that I spoke to repeatedly hung up on me saying that if I wasn't ordering I shouldn't be calling. Finally, a man picked up and he assured me that my dinner would be free. When he arrived it wasn't. He said the next time I ordered from them I would get a 5 percent discount. That won't even cover tax. The manager has avoided my complaints. Bad management and bad service equals a bad experience.

Cons: service, management, timeliness

Cheapskates. Not coming back.

by jules20

In February 2006, my friends & I celebrated my birthday 3 days early at Nandina's, and they DENIED me a free slice of cake because my driver's license birthday didn't match up with the current date.

I understand that drunk kids probably stumble into the restaurant trying to bum free desserts after a night of drinking on Greenville. I also understand that someone's birthday could actually be 6 months away. but my birthday was THREE days away and they were too cheap to make one customer happy. The restaurant has good food, but they compromised customer service to save themselves a few cents.

So I've told this silly incident to my friends , co-workers, & you (the reader). I hope the restaurant is happy with their extra pocket change.

Pros: Tasty, Creative

Cons: Cheap Service, Rude Waitress, Expensive Food

Awesome

by beefybj

I love this place! This is by far the best overall restaurant in Dallas for quality and what you get for your $$$, and ive been to alot. Great tapas and awesome sushi. I usually get a few tapas and 2-3 sushi rolls to split with my date and it always under $50. I would definately recommend this to anyone wanting to try something different and new. Great date spot. Request the waterfall room for a little more privacy. Two thumbs way up. :)

Pros: Great food, Great quality, wonderful atmospher

Cons: parking is limited

Great value & open late!

by kadiation23

Coming from Austin, home of Kyoto on Congress, I was on the lookout for a well-priced sushi place. Well, I've found it in Nandina's! The prices are very reasonable for sushi, and the atmosphere is quite trendy. The location right off of lower Greenville is interesting as well, as the place stays open until 3:00am on weekends. I went after bar-hopping one night, and it wasn't very busy at all. They were also playing hip-hop music in the background, which was pretty interesting since it's smooth jazz during normal hours. The service isn't the best, but it's typical of the Greenville area. There is also a bar with a flat-panel LCD TV, and they usually have that tuned in to the top sports event on at the time. Great place!

Pros: Price, Atmosphere, Location

Cons: Service, Parking

An unexpected surprise...

by marychristmas

I ended up in DFW for the weekend. A friend introduced me to this place and it was awesome. The service was a little quirky - very lower Greenville Ave I'm told. We sat out on the patio and they even setup a fan for us to make it cooler, and complimentary bug spray - 2 essentials in the Texas summer.
Food was great - we had apps, sushi and entrees - all good stuff.

Pros: Great food, Good atmosphere, Funky service

food to make your mouth water

by guenthecat

This place is truly the place to go when you want to splurge. When you first look at the prices, they don't look so bad, but then you realize that Tapas means "small protion"

But don't let the prices of Nandina get you down. The food is just amazing! There are different cooks for the different types of dishes, Sushi, Thai, Japanese. And the cooks really take pride in their work. In fact, the servers take pride in their crafts as well. Everytime I go in, we have the same server and he always gets me to try something new and sinfully wonderful. I highly reccommend the kobe beef strips. This dish is covered with strips of Camembert cheese and laid on a bed of green apple sticks. I know, it sounds a little strange, but it's my favorite dish. Also, the unfiltered sake is highly reccommended. It's almost nectar-like.

Pros: excellent food, knowledgable staff
