Natt Spil

For the two years I lived in Madison, I would frequently brag to my friends about my location in the Madison Mark on King St. I would say that it was walking distance to everything on the Isthmus and had a great view of the capital and lake Monona. However, the greatest aspect of living here was being right next to the official greatest-restaurant-on-this-beautiful-planet, Natt Spil.

This place is the coziest, friendliest, cleanest and most personal hole-in-the-wall restaurant around. The place is so dedicated to these qualities that there's not even a sign outside to attract attention. I hope that my review doesn't do anything to hurt them in this regard, but I had to tell the world about the quality of this place. The prices are very reasonable, and every dish is cooked right in front of you in their brick oven. There's no hidden kitchen here, folks. The menu is very limited, fewer than ten dishes at a given time, so no painful decisions to make. The ambiance is key, very dark tones and as I said, cozy. Especially in winter, this place simply glows. Take your time and enjoy everything that Natt Spil has to offer, just don't tell too many people about it. Enjoy!
