My husband and I had dinner at Cardones on May 13. The waitress was very good and friendly. The service was quite slow but we were told there had been a large party earlier. The food was OK but the portions were small.

The one thing that will keep us from going back is the $1.00 charge for extra sauce. We would not have ask for extra sauce if the food had enough on it. The amount of sauce given was about four tablespoons. I did not realize the $1.00 cost until I got the bill. Come to find out the bill was $2.00 more because I was charged for a very small....again 4 tablespoons....container for take home.

We will not return to Cardones because there are so many other restarunts in our area that do not charge for an item that should be free upon request or served generously when the meal is presented.

This little restaurant is a gem.

The food is excellent, my favorite is Gnocchi alla Gorgonzola (my wife's father from the old country says the Gnocchi is better than his which is fantastic). My wife (who's a vegetarian) loves the Arancini, while I like the Antipasto Platter appie (composed of real Italian meats and cheeses).

The Cardone??s Salad is delicious and loaded with fresh berries and crunchy, lightly candied, walnuts. Did I mention the bread? I introduced some friends to Cardone??s and they said the bread was the best they'd ever had; we must have ordered 3 or 4 baskets for 6 people.

The wine list is good (much better than chain restaurants like Bucca and Brio), with a nice selection of Italian's representative of the best growing areas - high quality, hand selected, wines at very reasonable prices.

The service is casual - not stuffy, mechanical or rushed - just like you'd find at a quaint restaurant in the heart of Rome. For music, you'll hear the soft background sound of Sinatra, Dean Martin, Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Prima and other pop/jazz legends along with recent artists like Diana Krall and John Pizzarelli.

The restaurant is small, so make reservations early (just showing up is not recommended due to limited seating); though last time I went the patio was open with additional tables outside.

This place isn't for everyone. If you like Americanized Italian chains, the cuisine, ambiance or service might not be what you're expecting. However, if you've been longing to go on that vacation to Italy and experience an authentic Italian restaurant first-hand but can't quite afford the airfare, or just watched the movie ??Big Night? and have a hankering for real Italian cooking, Cardone's is the next best thing.

Buon Appetito

This was our first visit to Cardones. I don't even know where to begin. First of all, when we walked in, there was nobody to greet us. There was a girl that kind of pointed to a table. The same girl happened to be our waitress, but throughout the whole night she never even introduced herself or let us know she was going to be our waitress. We never heard if there were any featured items, we weren't offered any appetizers, and she didn't even bring us any bread until I had asked for it after we ordered and already had our salads. The food was okay, but to top off a bad start to the evening we had to wait forever for our check. Definitely not worth the trip.

We are fans of places like Figlio and Brio and loved Cardone's! The prices were very reasonable and the food fresh. The portabella mushroom appetizer was amazing - my husband does not usually care for mushrooms and loved it. The bread was hot and fresh and the olive oil had a great flavor. The tomato/mozzarella salad was fresh and one of the best I have had. My husband's chicken parmesan was just ok but the portion was large.

Having driven by this restaurant without really noticing it, my wife and i decided to give it a try last Friday night. After a very enjoyable experience, we will be going back often. The best bread in the world is served promptly as you review the menu, which is diverse. I had chicken carbonara and my wife had the old standby, spaghetti and meatballs. Both were superb. The wine list was one of the best i have seen for a smaller restaurant, which this. But the small size makes it very cozy and warm. The owner came and out and talked to us, explaining the dishes and the wine, which was fun. We wholeheartedly recommend Cardone's.

Spontaneously had Tuesday lunch with wife and daughter for the first time at Cardones. While the salad was good, the hot eggplant appetizer was undercooked and bitter. The red sauce could not mask the poorly prepared meal. Later in the day I telephoned and spoke with Daniel Wade, proprietor, of our unsatisfying experience. His response, "I am sorry but everyone else has given us (the dish) good reviews."He admitted he wasn't working lunch today so hadn't tasted." While they make this fresh daily, I suggested they first draw out the moisture - via lightly salting (before quickly pan frying) to remove eggplant's inherent bitterness. Dan was unaware of this Italian prep technique.

In a strip mall that has seen better days, there lies a jewel in Westerville! Driving past this restaurant several times, my husband and I, along with two friends decided to try this "new" Italian place so close to home. What a great decision! On a Monday night, it wasn't crowded, but the atmosphere was welcoming and warm. the service was attentive, but not overly so. We were late arriving and there was already bread and water on the table as our friends arrived before we did. The bread was warm and toasted on one side, not garlic, but the herbed olive oil on the table added just enough flavor to get your appetite going. We ordered the arancini - hand-rolled risotto balls stuffed with our house-made mozzarella, then fried, served with garlic aioli, for an appetizer (perfect for two, since there are two of them) was great starter. The Antipasto platter was also a great idea and offered several types of olives, including ripe green olives which are not brined nearly as much as normal olives, and have a real "olive" taste. It also included great Italian ham and capicola along with fresh mozzarella and chunks of parmesan. The house salad was perfect with just the amount of extras to make it interesting, but not enough to wonder where the lettuce went. The Cardone's salad me friend ordered looked delicious with fresh berries and gorgonzola sprinkled throughout. the lettuce was fresh and the dressing was amazing, not too tangy, but enough flavor to compliment the salad, not over power it.The entrees were just as good, if not better than anything we had all night. I had the Cheese Ravioli and it was the best I have had, ever! (And I am Italian!) the sauce was not overly seasoned, not too heavy. It was well balanced with equal amounts of basil, pesto and cream. The ravioli was cooked perfectly, with just a bit of bite. My husband had the stuffed shells and they were stuffed! Meat and cheese and the sauce was incredible. My friend ordered the Gnocchi alla Gorgonzola. The sauce was subtly sweet and perfectly seasoned, the gnocchi was perfectly cooked. None of us touched the salt and pepper shakers all night! To top off the night, I ordered my favorite, Tiramisu. I really liked this! I almost order this when dining at real Italian restaurant, and usually end up leaving some on my plate. I ate every bite of this one! It had just enough of a hint of chocolate to satisfy my chocolate addiction, but not so much as to overwhelm the flavor of the delicate filling and coffee flavors traditional to the dish. After dinner we moved out to the patio are and lounged on the couches at the back of the patio area and a few drinks. All in all, it was one of the best Italian meals I have had, ever. Please go and see for yourself. I would hate to see a really good restaurant go under because no one knew about it!

I wasn't expecting such quality food first time I visited. I was surprised to find a very warm and comfortable interior, food that is just short of world class, and a very engaging staff who made the experience a fun adventure. To cap it off, they charge far less than the value you receive. A great restaurant.

Finally a good restaurant in Westerville. After a terrible meal at Uptown Market the week before, I was ready to be disgusted by another Westerville restaurant, but found a place that I will return to.

My only complaints were that the balsamic vinaigrette was sickeningly sweet and too thick, and the red wine was way too hot. It took a few minutes to get the wine, they said they were washing glasses, so maybe they just needed to cool the glasses before pouring.

Other than that the food was great and the service was great. The arancini and chicken carbonara were especially good. The pizza crust was also perfect, and the meatballs were very good.

I will be back, next time I just won??t get the balsamic and I might consider a beer instead of wine.

The curb appeal doesn??t do it justice; wait ??til you walk through the door. Cardone??s restaurant is more than just another Italian restaurant; it??s a breath of fresh air in a market oversaturated with chain pseudo-Italian restaurants. The bistro style interior design provides a great setting for an intimate dining experience and is well-matched by the cuisine. I was expecting another ??marinara sauce, pasta & meatball? selection but was surprised with the daring union made with the traditional Italian staples. The quality dishes well exceed the price at the end of the experience, which I decided to cap-off with the delectable tiramisu. The owner??s effort to capture his ancestors?? love for food & family has triumphed with the inception of Cardone??s restaurant. Take the time to enjoy!
