Bobby G's is a really cool around-the-corner type place. It has a relaxed atmosphere and is a great place to just hang out, grab a slice, and drink some beer. The on-tap beer selection is very respectable.
They're great for take-out too.
Tip: The small is pretty small and the large is pretty large. They only offer two sizes. Since the slices are pretty thin, it's not a stretch that the large would satisfy 2 or 3 hungry people.
My wife is vegan but I am not, so dining out together can often be a challenge. We recently discovered Bobby G's by accident, just walking by. What a great place! Plenty of vegan options to make my wife happy (she is still talking about the triple mushroom pie with their house made soy cheese), and I went for the meat lovers pizza. Yes, opposites do attract! :) We also split the organic baby greens salad, which happens to be a vegan choice too. The food was fresh, delicious, and perfectly prepared. They have a nice selection of beers on tap, nice jazz filled the room, and the whole experience was very warm and inviting. My wife and I live just a couple miles from them, and will definitely be back to sample the rest of their vast and tasty menu.
My husband and I are now regulars at Bobby G's. We live close by, and think it is a fantastic place. The food is creative, fresh, and always satisfying. My personal favorite is their bolognese pasta, while my husband tends to sample from the various pies on their menu. When I find a good thing, I tend to stick with it (i.e., the bolognese), but I must admit that I usually end up eating half of whatever my husband orders. Last time he ordered the arugula and cheese pie, which is a great combination of cheeses and, of course, arugula. It's a great combination of flavors without being too heavy on anything. And that's what we love about the place. They definitely get that less is sometimes more, and we always leave there full and quite content. We've been eating here for a few months now, and have watched the place evolve quite nicely. They have some great local artwork on the walls, and built a nice bar (my husband was much more excited than me, since he insists that it is sacrilegus to eat pizza without an ice cold beer). The owner is a very nice, personalable guy who seems genuinely interested in our feedback. My husband suggested to him once that he make hot sauce available (weird, I know, but my husband loves hot sauce on everything). The owner said, "Great idea. I think I'll do that." Sure enough, the next time we came in, there was a nice selection of hot sauces available for us. We were extemeley flattered by the fact that he not only listened, but that he took action. That was pretty much the day that my husband and I decided that Bobby G's was going to be a regular stop for us. Two thumbs up to Bobby G and his great staff! We love the place and wish them much success!
I went because a friend knows someone who works here, so I said I would be happy to try this new place. Because of this, I was biased to like it - even if it was bad, I was going to like it!
The problem is the attitude of the staff, and unfortunately, the owners too. They seem to have a very high opinion of themselves and no interest at all in being nice, even though I was the only one there at the time, and I enthusiastically identified myself as a new customer. You would think that a new restaurant would want to make a good impression. Apparently, I am out of touch here.
The pizza I ordered was only OK. They tout organic this and organic that, and green in-your-face everything, but in fact my veggie pizza was really just very ordinary.
With so much good food in Berkeley (and pizza even right in that area) where I can feel comfortable and valued as a customer (is there something wrong with that?), I of course will never consider going back.

University Avenue is not really known for its food, but some new restaurants are popping up recently and helping to change that. Since I live nearby, I am very happy about that. My favorite here is their triple shroom pie, but I've never been disappointed with anything. They have vegan options, which my family is very impressed with (I'm not vegan, but I think it's cool this place supports the idea). Nice vibe... good music, nice service, very comfortable and clean.
I was happy to see a new place opening near my job in downtown Berkeley. I gave it a try early on, and it has been a regular lunch spot for me ever since. Great slices, sandwiches and salads. Haven't tried the pasta yet, but my coworker swears by the bolognese. Everything is fresh and delicious, and I highly recommend it. The owner is a real personable, nice guy and the staff is great. They definitely understand customer service, and it's a nice place to hang out and enjoy a meal. I highly recommend it!
Bobby G's is a great addition to the downtown Berkeley food scene! Fresh, organic ingredients; Vegan and Vegetarian options; and a Meat Lovers pie to die for! Truly something for everyone. Their space is big, warm, and clean and the staff is super friendly. I've been here a few times for lunch and dinner already, and it is quickly becoming my favorite food spot in downtown Berkeley.
