This is by FAR the WORST home warranty service for replacement of water heaters! My water heater was covered under warranty. The contractor that they used County Plumbing (CA Lic# 969287) sent in their assessment & stated I needed "modifications" that were not covered under the warranty plan. Modifications totaled $1,049. Every time I asked for the list of these modifications, I got different $ amounts! When I added them up they totaled $889, $879, $979 & not $1049! It was the same list, but the prices kept changing! Not only that but none of these totaled the amount they were forcing me to pay! When I asked for this list in writing, prior to the work, the contractor refused! AHS would not give me this information in writing to do the work either. What they wanted was for me to take their "cash out" option when having it done by another plumber would cost me $1,275! My unit already had those "modifications," so not only were they over charging me, they were double charging me for items that did not need to be replaced! They will only mail out the list, which takes 5-10 bus. days to receive! I needed this list to make a decision prior to the work. They only gave me these 2 options! Blindly pay for over-charged "modifications" or "cash out" at a amount that won't even pay for the part, let alone the labor! When I asked the contractor what the work entailed, not policy info (this conversation was recorded by both parties), he refused to tell me & then refused to do the work! It took over 6 days to try to get this resolved which meant I had no hot water until 3/11/15! The plumber that came out could have done it on 3/6/15, the same day & I had to pay $800 out of my pocket for something that was completely covered! All AHS wants is your money!
