I ordered pizza and it was delivered in 30 min. The pizza is always delivered hot, the drivers are always friendly, and overall it is great. I tried many other pizzas, but this one is the BEST. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PIZZA TO EVERYBODY.

Pros: BEST PIZZA EVER!!!!!!!!

I go there for a slice sometimes, and it's amazing - such a yummy NYC style pizza. Then I order a pie and it's disgusting. Tons of mealy cheese, crust is thick and hardly any sauce at all. Happened three times over two years (1st time I figured just a bad pie, 2nd time I was annoyed then this time I just plum forgot how bad it was and ordered on a whim) Do they call out to another pizza place for their deliveries?? Or do they just grab an old pie, throw crap on it and toss it in the oven. Either way - epic fail!! Not even going back for the slice pizza I always liked.

Pros: in restaurant = good

Cons: delivery = straight to trash

My most recent visit to Hard Times Pizza Co. was very much like any other time , consistent. The youthful staff may intimidate some, but they don't bite! The barbeque chicken is my most favorite slice out of that estabilishment by far! i noticed the addition of the fountain drinks as well, its nice to see that some parts of the neighborhood aren't always falling into the vintage thing. The taste however, was and still is Hard Times Pizza Co..

au revoir,
Frances

Pros: instant gratification, and they are open late as well.

Cons: parking, but i park across the street at the market, no problem!

I LOVE their tomato basil. Meatball sandwich is great also. My experiences with staff were pleasant.

Hard Times is my fav pizza place in LA. The slices are just the right thickness, and not too greasy or saucy or cheesy! I agree, that the staff is pretty apathetic, but whatever, it's a pizza joint! Any teenagers behind a counter are going to be bitchy. It doesn't phase me, the pizza is too good.

If you want the real deal Pizza like you used to have in NYC, go to Hard Times. They have great prices and you can buy by the slice or a whole pie. The Tomato, Basil, Garlic pizza is one of there signature pizzas for good reason. Also, try the mushroom caps in their special vinagrette

I highly recommend this place for lunch. They have a great cucumber salad. Also, the chicken curry pasta is ideal for catering. Everyone at our staff party loved it.
The pizza is just as great and I recommend the cheese pizza.

We called for delivery, the service felt very rushed and rude. The pizza was burned (black) on the bottom and the sauce was too sweet. (Agh!!)

how they can demand $7 to deliver outside the delivery area without warning customers when the order is placed. Do I trust the delivery person standing at the door angrily asking for more money? Do I expect the guy on the phone to be rude when I call to ask what is up with this delivery charge, and why didn't they tell me about it when I ordered?

Do I plan to order from these folks again, despite the tastiness of their pizza?

Only if they rethink their customer service. Come on, Hard Times! You can do better!

I've been to hard times many times and recently, went back to get a slice. As I sat to let the pepperoni slice cool off, I noticed on the bottom of the crust that there was a hair stuck & burned to the crust. I showed it to them & they were not even phased by the crunchy twisted black hair. I really wanted a slice of pizza so I asked if I could get another one. As I sat and waited for the new slice, I thought about it. Do I really want another slice from Hard Times. Plus, they didn't even offer a refund and the free slice. The woman even have a nerve to get mad at me when I finally asked for a refund. WOW! Things have changed with these 'new' recent owners/management. They sure are bringing Hard Times to a record low. I've lost my taste forever. Go somewhere else & fast!

They have the best pizza! I love the thin and thick crust. The spaghetti is also very good and it comes with a large fresh garden salad and french bread. So good, I have it delivered once a week.

The pizza is pretty damn good...IF you can get through the rude and incompetent staff. I agree with the posting below, that, this place is becoming barely worth the pizza.

Too bad!

The pizza is not very good. The service, as someone else posted, is even crappier and the parking is pretty dreadful too. It is hard times indeed if you happen to end up at this place.

I wrote a review after my last bad experience and it somehow was pulled off - but I will say it again. The original owners sold the place. The new owners don't care who they put on the phone or at the register. I went into to order take out and felt such aggressiveness from the motley looking crew running the front counter...sorry folks but its true. Mexicans with attitudes running a supposed Italian Rest. that don't say thank you or even respond when u place ur order is not for me. The guys at the front counter also snack out of the bins they use to dress salads with ...one guy put his raw hands into the carrots and kept munching away - DISGUSTING! Then my pizza sat up on top of the shelf for 10 min. I tried to politely ask if my pizza was ready and I got more attitude and was dismissed and told they would call me. My suspicions were right and it was my pizza sitting on top getting cold for 10 minutes. Not an apology or a reheat was offered. Our family used to order a pizza or two a week for the last 8 years...now we go to Pizza Buona. I suggest u check them out and leave the attitude to itself.

Best pizza I've had in LA hands down. I am a big fan of the deep dish crust so that's what we got. A 9 piece pie is HUGE and the crust is definitely deep! It was almost focaccia style dough, which I love. I hear that the thing crust is awesome as well. Sure, they were a little snippy on the phone when I called for delivery, but who cares. This pizza was to die for and it arrived at my house in only 30 mins. Beat THAT Dominoe's and corporate chains alike!

Recently found this hidden gem through city search. Great New York Style Pizza! The combination specials are great deals that you have to take advantage of. Their antipasta and salad are delightful additions to the pizza. I work in downtown, so it's convenient for me to order take outs on the way home. People there are friendly and fast. Parking is limited during busy hours, so I have find street parking.

Really really good pizza... but don't bother trying to order over the phone. Either their ringer is broken, or they don't bother to pick it up. I've had three experiences now when I've tried to call them and they don't answer--for 30-45 minutes of redialing. They need a manager... badly. (See the review about how they're always running out of stuff.)

WOW! This place has gone DOWN HILL! Every time I call they are out of nearly everything that's on the menu. Whoever does the ordering for this place should be fired! And of course they wait until you order something to tell you they're out of it. They were out of Spaghetti like 4 times - they were out of pepperoni twice. Can't someone run across the street to the Gelson's and pick some up? What the hell kind of place is this?! Not to mention, they have basically threatened that it will take an "hour and a half OR MORE" for delivery. Why so long? They don't have any food to deliver anywhere! This place sucks. Not recommended unless you don't mind eating cheeseless pizza without any toppings and waiting a day to get it.

A fine pizza pie hidden in Silverlake. Was looking for something a little out of the usual, and found this on the recommendation of other CitySearch users. I'm glad I tried it. Very flavourful, thin crust, tasty toppings, and nicely un-soggy, even after a 20 minute drive home.

That said, it took 30 minutes to make me a pizza, and the place wasn't that busy. But the staff kept me apprised, and while it wasn't worth that kind of a wait, calling in my order will expedite things. A recommended joint.

I'm new to LA and found this place on a recommendation by a friend. Its a small place with fantastic pizza. They have their daily lunch specials which include a slice of their fabulous pizza, a small (was really pretty large) salad from a selection of about 5 types (i recommend the pasta salad) and a large drink for $4.50. The owners are extremely friendly and i've been there only three times so far and the girl behind the counter recognizes me every time and is very friendly. Great for weekend stopbys when you're so tired, you want to eat like you've never eaten before...go there and see foryourself :)

To their credit, Hard Times has kept things basic and effective over the years, while many mid-level pizza joints chase new, flashy menu items or decorations.

You can count on a decent slice or pasta with no fuss and good prices.

Pizza is AWESOME! Nice thin crust, always a little crispy, never soggy. Sandwiches, salads, and pasta dishes are strictly average, but the pizza will keep you coming back. Fair prices too: ~$16 for a 16" two topping pie. Dining area is small, so take out is preferable to sitting down (it's a pizza joint).

Editorial from

This is a classic neighborhood pizza joint featuring Sicilian and Neapolitan style pizzas with a variety of toppings. Drop in for a slice, or order a whole pie to share. Not in the mood for pizza? They also serve nearly a dozen pasta…
